She wasn't sure what it was about today, but there were plenty of Pokemon within the ruins today. After all of her Pokemon moved back to her side, Amber looked around on her side and over at Ryusuke's. With all the Golurk and Golett down for the count, Amber returned all but Cotton to their Pokeballs. She reattached the three to her belt before looking at Ryusuke. Catching the small hint of amusement, Amber raised a hand to her forehead and sighed. "Danny's my step-brother." She started to explain. "He has... interesting luck. But then again, he does get into most of his trouble himself. Somehow, someway." There was never a dull day with Danny around, Amber learned that from the start. However, no matter what she said or how many times she made fun of him, she did truly care for her step-brother. He may have been a dork, a klutz, and many other things, but he did the best he could. And in all honesty, though Amber would never admit it out loud, Danny was really fun to be around when she was growing up. Her boring childhood took a wild turn when he entered her life. She wouldn't have had it any other way. However, now that both of them were growing older, she was rather surprised what sort of trouble Danny still got himself in.
"I actually met up with him not too long ago in Orre and-" Amber cut herself off there. She suddenly remembered what had happened when they met up again, and she'd rather not relive those memories again. It also reminded her how she never wanted a Glameow now. The last time the two of them had met was in Orre... at a Maid Cafe. And not as costumers either, no. Danny worked there. And while Amber didn't judge people, she was surprised. Yet somehow, in the back of her mind, she was not surprised. She was fine with him working there, it was something she'd have to adjust to again. The thing that annoyed her was how she got pulled into Danny's messes.
At the Maid Cafe, she got roped into helping Danny at his job. Which included dressing up in a sweaty ass Glameow costume and having men in their 30s or 40s walk through the door. Some of them tried to peek inside the Glameow's mouth to see who was inside, and Amber somehow retrained herself from punching the men in their guts, but instead pushed them through the door. It was an interesting reunion and not one she really wanted to remember. She decided to forget the topic completely and go back to the main subject instead.
"Anyway, yeah, there's not that many Trainers here. But I think most of the Pokemon are inside the ruins. I haven't really explored any deeper than this before, so this is all new to me." Amber explained, looking at the vast cave. It was surprising that the ruins lead to a place like this. It was definitely one of the highlights of Nue. "And if you want some other type of training, there's a lot of new gyms popping up all over the region. You could always try challenging them to see how you do."

I'm looking to the sky to save me, looking for a sign of life Looking for something (to) help me burn out bright
"Interesting luck"? Something Ryusuke himself was more than a little familiar with, and at first glance the blonde was well aware that the description that Amber just gave of her step brother could and did ironically fit Ryusuke himself almost word for word in regards to that. Still, there was something in the way she spoke about the guy that made Ryusuke think more of the way he and his dad viewed Shiori than anything else, and it was that inflection and Amber's immediate pause mid-sentence that got the trainer's attention more than anything else. Assuming this step brother way anything even remotely like Shiori, that pause could only mean one of two things - family secret, or something that Amber really didn't want getting out or to remember. Personally, Ryusuke was banking on the second.
"You know, I've had some experience with a sibling like that myself, so I know what that pause means. What'd he do, or make you do? Was blackmail involved?" Ryusuke said, grin creeping across his face as he spoke. He'd experienced his own version of hell growing up already, so while it may have been a bit morbid and vindictive it still brought the trainer at least a small degree of happiness to know that he wasn't the only one forced to deal with that kind of bullshit. The entertainment that came with those little stories? Just the proverbial icing on the cake. Not that he'd be too familiar with the locations mentioned if there were any as Ryusuke had only been to Gateon Port for a single night and still had yet to see any other part of Orre, but that was beside the point. Misery loves company, if the blonde was forced to choose words to give a name to the idea.
As for Amber's other words, it was at least somewhat reassuring that this was new ground for the both of them - it helped in the fact that he didn't feel quite as out of his depth as he probably was. Granted, to be completely honest Ryusuke was more than surprised that his Pokemon were even keeping up with Amber's team for knock outs so far, especially given the other trainer's recent background that he knew of. If anything, he would've expected Amber to be pushing ahead and doing most of the heavy lifting, regardless of how much effort Ryusuke and his own Pokemon put in - Grovyle was one thing, but most of his other Pokemon didn't have nearly that degree of experience or training, as was readily apparently with Turtwig, the newest addition to the team. And concerning the other Gyms in the region...
Ryusuke honestly still felt he wasn't ready for that yet. Not by a long shot. Gym Leaders, at the very least, were typically held to very high standards of ability by the Pokemon League. They weren't pushovers by any stretch of the imagination, and while Ryusuke was only vaguely familiar with the requirements of the exam needed to become one, he knew enough to know that what had cost him his arm in Kalos likely wouldn't have put a scratch on one of them. It was pretty much everything Ryusuke had just to be able to keep three or four of those Luxury Grunts at bay, even with type advantage and help, and that in and of itself honestly felt like a noteworthy achievement to him despite the fact that the League simply would've expected it of even their weaker Gym Leaders.
The stronger ones, like Amber, Green, or Wallace (despite now being one of Hoenn's Champions)? Chances were that they would've simply swatted most of that opposition aside, and while Ryusuke may have been using what he knew of his mother's level of ability - as much as he hated to admit it - he still had a long, long way to go in that regard. Then again, it might've also been his habit for not wanting to pick fights he knew he couldn't win if he could avoid it, something that he knew full well had also been detrimental to his progression as a trainer.
"Yeah, maybe. To be honest, and back to your earlier statement, I think I'll take you up on that offer for a sparring partner. Not entirely sure we're ready to take on the other Gyms in the region. Not yet, anyways." Ryusuke finished, in the process receiving a rather withering look from Grovyle. The Grass Pokemon was definitely not lacking for confidence, but as for the rest of the Pokemon currently out... Ryusuke still couldn't read Murkrow, and while Turtwig was a bit easier to understand the turtle was still nowhere near ready to battle even run of the mill trainers yet.

4 Darumaka and 2 Darmanitan fainted 2 Darmanitan remain
Amber couldn't help but raise a brow and look over at Ryusuke with a unamused expression. There wasn't any black mail involved, in fact all of it was of her own free will. She just didn't know what she was agreeing to. She could just see the grin forming on his face. One word too many was said and now he was curious, huh? As much as she'd love to relive that experience, Amber decided against it and tried to skirt around the topic. "Let's just say I got into a stupid situation because of him and leave it at that." Amber said, turning away and rubbing her forehead. Those were memories she was not mentally prepared to relive again. As much as she did love her step-brother, there were times she was amazed he was able to walk on his own two feet. Sure, Amber would constantly tease and joke about him, but he knew it was all light hearted. And deep down, both of them knew how the other felt. Though, she probably should lighten up on the teasing.
Thankfully, the conversation switched gears. She looked up and over to Ryusuke, her own grin forming on her face as she nodded. "Sweet. It's been a while since I've trained with anyone. My gym's in Shui up in the mountains. It should be a breeze since you got a Charizard. You can fly on him, right?" Amber asked.
While she and Ryusuke were talking, Cotton couldn't help but look around herself. The Altaria didn't get a good look at the ruins since they've been battling and running from hordes of Pokemon. Now that things calmed down, she decided to investigate for herself. She didn't stray too far from the two humans, and ended up finding herself searching a corner in the hallway. Cotton's eyes caught something shiny lodged between a rock and the wall. She moved forward, nudging the rock out of the way and picking out the stone. The Dragon stared at the marble for a bit longer before making her way back to Amber and Ryusuke, nudging her beak in Amber's hand and dropping the marble in her palm.
The sudden item in her palm made Amber switch her attention to the marble. She held it up and looked back at Cotton, who chirped proudly of herself. Holding it up to eye level, Amber had to admit this marble was one of the more pretty ones she had found. Though she had no idea who it belonged to, she pocketed it nonetheless. "Oh! That reminds me, speaking of your Charizard. I could help with his mega training and..."
She trailed off when the cave began to rumble again. Amber paused in the middle of her sentence and slowly looked back behind them. "Oh come ON!" She cried out. Soon enough, another horde of Pokemon were heading right towards them. A mix and match of Darumaka and Darmanitan were rampaging towards the two and their Pokemon, not intending to stop anytime soon. By the looks of it, it appeared as though there were four Darumaka and four Darmanitan. However, two of the bigger Pokemon ended up ducking off to the side without her noticing. Amber couldn't help but grumble in annoyance as she picked off another Pokeball, not wanting to waste anymore time with these hordes.
The Pokeball popped, releasing a large purple Dragon before her. Goober shook off his sleepiness and rubbed his eyes, turning around only to find the horde of Fire types heading right towards him. The sleepy Dragon yelped in surprise and backed up, regaining his senses and stomped the ground. A wave of brown water washed up from under the Goodra, raising high above the Dragon and crashing forward, wiping out the smaller Darumaka who were washed away in the water. "Cotton, take out the remaining ones!" The Altaria didn't need anything more said. The remaining Darmanitan shook off the Muddy Water, rubbing their heads and turning their attention towards the Dragon type.
Fire Punches were swung around, trying to hit the Dragon as she swung above head. With only two left, Cotton had no issue taking down each one at a time. A Dragon Pulse knocked out the one, while the other Fire type went down instantly to an Aerial Ace. The Altaria landed beside the Goodra, both looking around to make sure that the horde was taken out. Despite their efforts, two of the Darmanitan had managed to avoid the barrage of attacks completely. The two didn't hesitate to appear from behind and attempt to go for Ryusuke instead.

Oh, yes. That was a trigger, although for exactly what Ryusuke could only venture possible guesses as Amber looked away and rubbed her forehead before answering. Definitely something that the Gym Leader either didn't want getting out or otherwise would've preferred not to speak about entirely, though, and that in and of itself was enough to pique Ryusuke's curiosity. Amber hadn't exactly struck him as the kind of person to keep secrets, embarrassing or otherwise, and while the blonde wasn't the type to gossip or spread rumors by any stretch of the imagination that didn't mean he wasn't naturally curious. Granted, always the option of just asking the other guy in question, but too much effort to find or call them, and aside from that Ryusuke just wasn't that guy - plus going around Amber's back and pissing off a Gym Leader were generally very bad ideas to begin with.
In any case, though, the other trainer seemed more than a little eager to steer the conversation elsewhere the moment Ryusuke mentioned that he'd probably take her up on the offer for a sparring partner... although the blonde recognized nothing as far as the mentioned locations went. Since arriving in Nue he had only been in Flash City, and that was only for a day or two to get his arm and leg measured for the new prosthetics - Ryusuke knew nothing of the other cities or sub areas within the region beyond the Wilds and the Debris, and he'd only looked into those enough to know that they were good places to train his team away from the cramped confines of Flash City. As far as Shui was concerned, Ryusuke had never heard the name before, and likely wouldn't again until he went back to the hospital and had a chance to look it up. As far as Charizard went.... good question. Ryusuke had two Pokemon capable of actually flying people around, but so far he'd never had cause nor reason to try it before. Probably would've been a much better idea to do it back when he was a foot or so shorter, too, but a bit late for-
"Wait, 'mega training'?" That was a completely new one on Ryusuke - as far as he knew from their previous conversation back in Hoenn, Mega Evolution was just a temporary power boost, nothing more. Nothing that would require additional training, or at least from what the blonde trainer understood of it. Stone for the trainer, stone for the Pokemon, activate, evolve, attack, profit. Right? Granted, Charizard's ability seemed to change when that was done since something akin to a Sunny Day had been used, albeit without any action on the Fire Pokemon's part the one time he had Mega Evolved, likely Drought from what little digging Ryusuke had done. Still, though, not something he would've considered as requiring a complete strategy overhaul aside from taking into account what effect the weather condition would have on Tentacruel and Frogadier's performances in battles. Sunny Day and Water types generally did not mix well, although with Grovyle apparently knowing Solarbeam that did swing things a bit more into balance. It wasn't like the little green gremlin was much of a slacker in fights to begin with, and with a move that strong being made readily spammable the Grass type certainly wouldn't be lacking for firepower, pun not intended.
Even before Amber could answer, though, yet another horde of Pokemon that Ryusuke wasn't able to immediately identify found the pair of trainers, the path behind them rumbling as the group this time approached them from the entrance leading outside rather than deeper within the ruin as before. While Grovyle, already the closest, wasn't exactly against the idea of another fight, the reptile's eyes managed to catch Amber reaching for another Pokeball, as well as the more than done expression on the trainer's face. A clear sign to get out of the way, and a brief call out to Murkrow would alert the Dark type to the action as both Pokemon retreated down the hallway and back towards Ryusuke as the trainer himself began to react, likewise reaching for a Pokeball of his own. Not, however, before the mass of slime would be released from Amber's own orb, swamping the hallway with water, sweeping away the smaller Pokemon and weakening the larger ones for the Altaria to finish off.
Probably Fire types, then, given how effective Muddy Water had been, and with that thought in mind Ryusuke would continue through with his action as two survivors from the Dragon Leader's assault would pop back out of the side passage to begin rushing the trainers again, one of the two receiving a blast of electricity to the face from Murkrow in the process and stumbling to crash face first into the floor. Arcing his arm to chuck the Pokeball at the remaining, mobile threat, Ryusuke would release Frogadier more or less in the Fire type's face, the first Fire Punch nimbly dodged with a simple side step and met with a blast of water to the chest - the first enough to stagger the larger Pokemon, and the immediate follow up enough to put the Fire type down while it was still recovering.
The remaining Pokemon, effectively claimed by the Dark type before, would be all but ignored by Frogadier, even as the Fire type forced itself back upright and lifted an arm to swing at the amphibian. Even as it did so, however, the bird would streak by, clipping the Darmantian's leg with Foul Play and redirecting the Fire Punch to slam the larger Pokemon's fist into the ground with a proportionally painful impact. Still partially paralyzed by the earlier Thunder Wave, the remaining Darmantian would be all but defenseless as Murkrow looped back around to land atop the Pokemon and use Snarl, the attack forcing the Fire type into the ground for good.
".... so, bets on four for four?" Ryusuke said, letting the silence settle again before speaking, slowly looking over towards Amber and her Pokemon and mentally retracting what he had thought before concerning expectations. Ryusuke didn't exactly go looking for wild Pokemon often, but this was still getting ridiculous - he'd only encountered a group of them wild once before coming to Nue, but just in the last few minutes it had been nothing but mobs within the ruins. Granted, exactly what he'd wanted as far as challenges went for training his team, but that didn't make it any less surreal.

At this point, Amber figured that keeping her Pokemon out would be the best for everyone. Instead of recalling the Goodra, she simply turned around to face Ryusuke and sighed. His previous question was almost forgotten, but her memory was jogged after a few short seconds. "Oh, well I mean, is your Charizard used to being in mega form? It's really different than his normal form, and some of my Pokemon had some issues getting used to their new bodies." Amber explained. However, she didn't know much about Mega Evolution either. Even though she used how to use it, Amber didn't know much about how it worked or how it effected the Pokemon. It was a weird evolution that people were still learning about.
Amber was snapped out of her thoughts, her thoughtful expression turned into a tired and deadpan face. "I really hope not. I mean, I thought these ruins were supposed to be quiet with Pokemon. But we've ran into three hordes already." She paused and sighed, scratching the top of her head. "Well, on the bright side, it's a little extra training." There was also something else that Cotton had found that she almost forgotten about. But before she could pull the stone out to inspect it more, Amber noticed a shadow coming up behind her.
With a side step, Amber let the Goodra pass right by her and stumble forward. "Nuh uh, you're not hugging me today, Goober." Amber scolded, getting a pitiful look from the Dragon type. You couldn't really blame her for not wanting a hug from the slimey Dragon though. Goober huffed and crossed his arms, disappointed in the fact he could never hug his Trainer again.
She shook her head with a slight grin and turned her attention back to Ryusuke. "Anyway, back to the training subject. If you wanted, we could head back to Shui once we find the way out."
