Standing in at a short 5' 7", a fair portion of Ryusuke's weight is actually a result of the prosthetic arm and leg he's worn since the age of ten. Of fair complexion with light blond hair and an unusual golden eye color to match, Ryusuke's clothing can vary anywhere from the typical t shirt, jeans and sneakers while in a city to the heavier duty boots, pants, jacket and tank top he tends to wear when durability is required of his clothing. After leaving home, however, Ryusuke has made it a habit to wear the crimson coat that his mother had in her youth, both as a reminder to why he left home as well as motivation to measure up to her legacy. [/div]PERSONALITY
Over the course of his short life Ryusuke has undergone a number of different changes to his personality, mostly the result of external stimuli. While extremely inquisitive and enthusiastic during his early childhood it soon gave way to a defiant and self reliant nature as he became the target of ostracism both in and out of school (largely because of his appearance), although this would also fade within the next year and a half to produce a balanced mix of the two sets of personality traits by the age of nine.
Mostly self reliant by then and with the inquisitive nature and enthusiasm that had driven him earlier now returning but this time with the drive to stand up for himself, Ryusuke remained both driven but happy in the following year until his mother's confinement to a wheelchair in the same car accident that took both his right arm and left leg. While drawn into a deep depression for a matter of months during the rehabilitation process, Ryusuke would emerge from the dark period changed, but for the better.
Rather than let the accident drag him down, Ryusuke's personality was further strengthened by the fact he knew he was lucky to be alive. By the time he had turned 13 his metamorphosis, while not complete, had reached a relatively stable point - while still retaining the intelligence from his early childhood years, Ryusuke had become a highly independent and self reliant, daring individual, taking risks whenever he felt them necessary, a trait even further fueled by the motivational drive he'd acquired earlier in his life. As a result it has made him particularly stubborn and difficult to persuade even with logical arguments once he sets his sights on a particular goal - Ryusuke had figured by this point that life was too short and the time worth too much not to pursue what one wanted. That being said, he still harbors a number of personality quirks that make him appear at the very least eccentric to those around him at times, the first and foremost being phantom limb pain (the sensation of feeling pain or biting cold from limbs that no longer exist) – while becoming increasingly rare as time passes and lessening in intensity, it will cause him to act somewhat oddly at times, as if distracted or otherwise preoccupied, although certain external stimuli can mess with his prosthetics and generate similar responses.
Above all, Ryusuke values family and loyalty. While he might genuinely dislike someone, dislike and disrespect aren't necessarily the same things, and as long as someone holds fast to their beliefs and convictions he will typically respect their wishes and won't do anything to get in their way unless it places him or someone he cares for at risk. Since becoming a trainer, Ryusuke has also developed a healthy respect for those able and willing to exercise their own independence, recognizing that not everyone has the willpower to do so.

HISTORY
Born to two trainers, Ryusuke was incredibly inquisitive, showing an inborn intelligence from an early age that was quickly noticed by both teachers and fellow students alike. While normally not particularly attention drawing on its own it quickly made him the target of ostracism when combined with his hair and eye color, along with the fact that he didn't seem to partake in any of what most children his age considered socially acceptable activities. By the time he had reached the age of 7 it had come to outright physical confrontation, and what had been something of an enthusiastic but inquisitive nature quickly turned into one of defiance and self reliance, with Ryusuke finally joining a local dojo at his mother’s insistence in the hopes of learning a means of self defense.
Highly encouraged by his natural ability in the arts, Ryusuke excelled with his studies at the dojo, quickly becoming one of the top students due to his quick speed, the ability to improvise quickly when needed and above all, just plain being too stubborn to back down. As he became less and less of a social outcast thanks in part to both having found a group that accepted him as well as having gained the ability to fend off the few physical attacks that came his way, Ryusuke was actually happy for a short time, although this would be a relatively short lived period.
A year later he and his father would be involved in a car accident that both crippled his father and cost Ryusuke two of his limbs, completely severing his right arm from the shoulder down and crushing his left leg from the knee down. Bleeding heavily and unable to locate his arm for possible reattachment in time, the medics were forced to amputate the remains of his lower left leg to stop the bleeding, with Ryusuke still nearly dying despite numerous blood transfusions. Unconscious and unresponsive for nearly two days after the collision, Ryusuke found himself without the ability to move on his own and his father in a similar situation as a result of being paralyzed from the waist down, and for months afterwards he was drawn into a deep state of depression, with only the rehabilitation process saving him from complete despair. By the time he had reached the age of ten Ryusuke had managed to pull himself loose from his depression, focusing on what good had come from it - for starters, both he and his father were alive when they had no right to be, and in large part due to several advancements in prosthetics he could hypothetically regain full functionality in day to day life despite the loss of his limbs.
Realizing that life was simply what you made of it and that everyone's time was limited in one way or another, be it by age, chance or otherwise, Ryusuke decided he'd simply make the most he could of the time he had, viewing it as a second chance. Returning to normal classes nearly 10 months after the accident (in large part due to the physical rehabilitation and adjusting to his new prosthetics), Ryusuke delved back into life with a drive rarely seen in people his age, climbing to stand near the top of the student rankings, position he managed to maintain despite (or due to) his rather stubborn attitude in addition to having to leave the dojo he’d been training at.
With Ryusuke old enough to help around the house and not require constant overwatch from his parents, his mother returned to her life as a trainer, leaving their home in Lilycove to tour the Hoenn region yet again in an effort to help pay the family bills, although his father, also handicapped but without prosthetics to compensate, was forced to remain home with their son. As the months would pass by the pair would receive regular postcards and calls from his mother, either via Pokemon Center or through her PokeNav in the field, and after another year passed she would leave the island region for Kanto and Johto, and after another year she would travel to Sinnoh for several months. About halfway into her typical regional tour, however, the Ugumi household would receive a postcard explaining that she had cut that tour short to travel back to her home region to visit her family - while unusual it was no cause for immediate alarm, and passed without much worry until several more months had passed without additional updates from his mother.
As yet another two months passed by and worry began to set in Taichi attempted several times to contact his wife through her PokeNav from their end, failing to connect to the device each time before bringing the matter to the Ranger Union in the hopes that they could locate the missing trainer, only to find that there was no Union in the [Unknown] region where she had gone missing - without anyone else to turn to, Taichi began considering contacting [Unknown]'s regional law enforcement after the fourth month had passed. Ryusuke, during all of this, had started to get his own ideas - having long been raised on stories of his parents' travels as trainers he'd initially considered choosing that lifestyle before his prosthetic surgery and rehabilitation had put an indefinite hold on those plans, and after beginning to grow disgusted with the perceived incompetence of the authorities he brought the idea of going looking for his mother himself to his father. Taichi, needless to say, refused, unwilling to allow his son to go into a situation that had potentially proved to be too much for even a veteran trainer. Despite the rejection of the idea, however, Ryusuke was not so easily dissuaded, and it only took another month before he decided to act with or without his father's consent, sneaking out of the house in the middle of the night along with the two Pokemon he had received from his parents as childhood companions along with several of his father's belongings from his glory days as a trainer - several Pokeballs, the beat up old briefcase he'd used to carry things, his father's PokeNav and the coat his mother had worn at his age, far too small for her adult self and long since packed away until that moment. Already having planned ahead of time and bought a ticket for a ferry to the [Unknown] region ahead of time, Ryusuke was far, far away from Hoenn before anyone realized he had left.
Several months would pass after Ryusuke left Hoenn, during which he would grow both as a person and as a trainer - while initially off to a rocky start, the same independent spirit that he'd shown as a child would soon assert itself as he began to grow more familiar with what it meant to train a team. While he had first started with only Treecko who'd been at his side since early childhood and his father's Charmander, Ryusuke was soon joined by one of his mother's first Pokemon as well as adding several new additions over time, and as he toured the region in search of her he continued to improve in skill. Roughly five months into his journey, though, things would abruptly change as he received a message from his mother, warning him to stay away and if possible, leave the region - while loath to do so and torn with indecision for days, Ryusuke eventually took heed of her warning, leaving the region behind. Having become far too accustomed to the lifestyle and used to the freedom it offered, however, Ryusuke did not leave for Hoenn, but rather boarded a ship for Orre, the last place anyone would likely look for him.

ROLE PLAY SAMPLE,
It'd been a long, long time since Ryusuke had returned to Mishima, and an even longer time since he'd been in as good a mood as he was at that given moment. It was a rare thing indeed when things simply worked out in his experience, but worked out they had, and all seemingly after the job he'd worked in Shizuoka - almost overnight things had started to turn around on him, and for once it was for the better. Having started to travel northwest of that frozen hell once he'd finished there in pursuit of warmer climates, barely two days had passed before the other trainer he'd met there had contacted him again through his PokeNav for a meeting - under normal circumstances Ryusuke would have turned her down, but something she'd said had caught his attention and he'd agreed. What came after that had more or less lifted all of his burdens at once - Elinda was alive and well, and even more than that she was on the move again and pursuing her own goals as she always had. While it had irked him a bit to be passed a message from her telling him to basically stay the hell away, something he would have happily ignored in order to find out why she had felt it necessary to suddenly up and abandon her family like that, he wasn't about to disobey - he'd been raised by the woman, and he could very well imagine the consequences that would result if she caught him anywhere within a five mile radius of her.
The more troubling issue for Ryusuke, though, was that while he hadn't exactly accomplished what he'd intended to in traveling to Tokai, his original reasons for being in the region no longer applied, and as a result he found himself at a crossroads and forced to make a choice. Regardless of what he chose he'd need to contact home and let his dad know that Elinda was still alive and well, but what happened after that was where things got blurry. The simplest solution would be to simply pack it up and leave - he had little reason to stay in the region anymore, and he had a life back in Hoenn. A handful of friends, what had been a promising academic future, family, everything he'd worked to earn and keep ever since he'd been able to walk on his own two legs again - it was all back in Lilycove, still waiting there if he decided to return and giving him almost every reason to simply go back home. On the flip side of the coin, though, was another option - to continue on as a trainer in the island region, a path he'd always wanted to take when he'd been younger but one that had been denied to him simply by chance and circumstance, and the more he thought about it the more attractive that option became.
Yes, almost everything that Ryusuke had really worked for was still back in Hoenn, but conversely everything that mattered to Ryusuke was with him at that very moment - the few essentials he packed in the suitcase he carried, the clothes on his back, the Pokeballs and the Pokemon they contained in his pockets and Treecko, the little green Grass type carefully making his way along the rocky path a few feet ahead of Ryusuke. Money itself was admittedly a bit of an issue, but not a particularly important one in the long term - he'd been in Tokai for two and a half months already, half of that time spent on his own and he'd been perfectly successful in looking out for himself. He was a capable trainer now, a far cry from the green horn he'd been when he'd arrived in Totomi and been ambushed in Hollow Forest, and as a result it wasn't like he needed to rely on anyone else anymore - he was self sufficient now, and that alone was more than most people could ask for.
In any case, not a choice that should be made on a mere whim, and a fact that Ryusuke himself was very well aware of - and after the events in Tokai's frozen waste he needed time to just recover and recharge his mental batteries, and Mishima had been the first place that had come to mind. While the route through Susono, Mitsuke and Numazu had indeed been attractive simply due to the warmer climates, Mishima had been chosen as his destination for a number of different reasons. He'd been there thrice already in the past, the first and second times when traveling from the Reserve to Susono to visit Professor Io in order to obtain an Everstone for Treecko and back, the object itself still working like a charm - something that he would need to remember to thank her for the next time he was in Susono and able to pay her a visit. The third time, however, the city and its natural hot springs had been a welcome reprieve, a retreat from the events involving that damned cave back in the Reserve. He'd been traveling with Melody back then, and the place had been the first bit of normalcy he'd experienced since returning from wherever that place had been - stupid as it might have been, the city and its volcanic surroundings almost felt like a second home to him by now, the rocky terrain, warmth and humidity the one environment that was friendly to not just him but all of his Pokemon as well.
After arriving in the city, Ryusuke had gone through the customary routine of visiting the local Pokemon Center to both let his Pokemon rest and to check up on their health after the several days spent traveling, but almost immediately after finishing there he'd left the city and begun to travel east, relying on his memory to guide him into the foothills where he and Melody had gone during his last visit to the area. The Pokemon Center was good for some things, but after all of the crap he'd put himself and his Pokemon through, they needed more than just rest, or at the very least they deserved more - and he remembered exactly how to get back to the hot spring that they'd found during their last visit. Continuing along the rocky, undeveloped path out of the city outskirts, Ryusuke came around the final bend to arrive on the shore of the steaming pond, the body of water continuing on to curve around the base of another foothill and out of sight.
Stopping and simply looking over the place for several moments as Treecko approached the water's edge and stopped to peer into it, Ryusuke placed his suitcase down on the ground and took several seconds to look the area over before moving again. Pulling two Pokeballs out of his pocket to release another two of the creatures, Charmeleon materializing directly next to Ryusuke and a fair distance away from the spring and Metagross over the water itself. Not even bothering to appear on land to wade into the water, Metagross seemed to simply hang in midair before dropping down into the steaming water with a gigantic splash angled towards the foothill base, completely soaking the rock face as the Steel type sunk down just low enough to appear to be little more than a massive blue boulder, eyes just above the water line as he settled in to soak, letting out a contented, bass murmur as he closed his eyes.
"Don't worry about me, I'll get in in a sec. Just take your time and relax, that was the whole reason we came here." Ryusuke said, eyes on Treecko as the Pokemon glanced questioningly back at his trainer before letting out a quick bark of affirmation and sliding into the water to float towards the center, the upper half of his head protruding above the water's surface with the rest of his body submerged Feraligatr style. Watching just long enough to make sure that the water wasn't too hot for the Grass Pokemon and that his oldest partner wouldn't need assistance in escaping the heat, Ryusuke set about getting himself ready, not even bothering to spare Charmeleon a glance as he started removing his own clothing boots first and folding it next to his suitcase - the Fire type would always do what he wanted regardless, and if that was curling up by the water's edge or beginning to wander off further east and towards the area that the foothill blocked from view as he was currently doing, Ryusuke wouldn't argue the point. If it made him happy, then so be it - that was the point of the trip, and he knew how to look out for himself.
Stopping at his boxers given that he intended to use them as improvised swimming trunks and with his hair undone, Ryusuke turned to the water before hesitating a moment and moving back to his clothes, reaching in an pulling out one final Pokeball - as usual Aerodactyl did little more than glare at him through the casing, and Ryusuke felt no inclination to release the beast from her confinement. Even still, though, he held onto her ball as he made his way back to the water, and without hesitation plunged straight in feet first - an action that Ryusuke almost immediately regretted as it felt like his skin was being seared for several long, agonizing seconds, but after those passed and the heat began to become far more comfortable rather than painful he began to lower himself further in, stopping at chest level as he released Aerodactyl's ball to float across the surface of the water, the Pokemon equal amounts alarmed and curious as he kept a close eye on her as she drifted. Finally allowing himself to relax, Ryusuke settled in to soak - thinking could come later, but for now he simply intended to rest and relax.[/font]
