Now that the November season had started, Izumi decided to drop by the Safari Zone for a bit—in order to at least give some of the other ‘mons some much-needed exercise. As such, she was still carrying around the team that she’d recently been trying to develop alongside Doug—although in this case, it was going to be more of a “practice of firepower” involving Ravana and the unnamed Totodile that she had trailing along with her. It’s really a shame that it’s not the one I want to evolve myself, but the client’s asking for output and I got to deliver. I just hope that whatever I run into, can actually have them deliver aforementioned output though… she thought with an apprehensive look on her face as she then made her appearance at the Safari Zone; her first in quite a while.
She was surprised to see that some of the wait staff had changed; but there were still other individuals who remembered her—and were nice enough to let her go right into the area; after just handing them the ticket over.
“A’ight, wish me luck!” she shouted at her guard-friend, who then cranked the gates open for her; welcoming her back into its “loving bosom”. She then noticed that the areas had gotten somewhat larger—since the last time she was here, she’d managed to grab Oceanus, the very tenacious Squirtle who never gave up in the face of tough adversaries. “Alright… let’s do this…” she continued, squaring her shoulders as she then marched off right into the Zone that was starting to look like a cross between an abandoned city and a sprawling underground cave system. Man, I hope Josh didn’t have so much bad luck on his trips here. I heard that Kouji got an Aerodactyl because of him… she thought with a smirk as she then looked around, being ever so careful not to let anything catch her by surprise.

It didn’t take too long before Izumi had chanced upon something—or rather, there was something that had snuck up on them and she hadn’t noticed it until the very last second! The zipping dark-green blur had bowled over her legs, causing her to fall over flat and get knocked down to the dirt, which made her yelp out loud! In response, she chose a few choice swear words before awkwardly pulling herself up and then seeing that an Axew had knocked her over. Who knew that the little thing had so much power? She then squinted at it—before realizing that it was the perfect training chance for one of her companions today! Chuckling as she then plucked one of the PokeBalls with her, she then sent out its occupant; before hearing an overly-eager voice cry out, “Toto, totodile! Totodile!!!” once he’d seen the light of the sun and the world.
“Right, Toto,” she said, choosing to call it by a “safe” nickname—at least until she’d fully raised him and turned him over to the client—“…attack that thing with your Ice Punch, can you? Make sure it apologizes to me!” she ended, watching as the overly-eager young crocodile Pokémon charging forward, one of its paws suddenly freezing over with a burst of arctic energy. In its defense, the Axew then quickly backed away several paces—before firing off a ball of draconic energy right at the rushing Totodile! Ah, shoot, Dragon Rage. Well, this Ice Punch is going to put him in his place. Or her place. I don’t know how Kouji can even tell their genders apart… she thought as the Totodile took the brunt of the attack and howled out of surprise—before catching the very surprised Axew off-guard and hitting it across its jaw, sending it flying through the air! She then chuckled—but then knew that it was time to get serious, as she continued,“Screech! Drop its defenses, then if it comes in close again, Crunch it down; then shove it away again with Ice Punch!”
“Totodile!” she heard the young one call out, hunching down into a stance; watching and waiting—as the Axew then came rushing forward; its claws glowing with draconic energy—it was charging up Dragon Claw! Right then and there, a loud sound came from the Totodile’s mouth; stunning it for just a few moments at such close range—the Totodile had waited until the very last second to use Screech before closing the distance and chomping down on the Axew with its fangs, delivering its Crunch attack! As she heard the Dragon-type howl out loud in pain, she then watched as the Totodile set up around it once again—as the Axew was now attempting to counter with another instance of Dragon Rage—but was met once again with the frozen fist of fury the Totodile, sending it reeling and backing away again. “Be careful there Toto. The dragon might have another trick up its sleeve!”
She then watched as the Axew backed away before making its scariest face at the Totodile; who then staggered where he stood—apparently, Scary Face had caused it to cringe and slow down—and the Axew saw an opening, rushing in with its claws glowing once again! “Toto! Ice Punch, one-two!” she shouted, and the Totodile barely snapped to its senses—and then countered the incoming Axew with one, then another succession of Ice Punches, sending it flying down and out of the rocky clearing! “Bleah. Never thought that they’d be so aggressive this early…” she muttered, looking around as the Totodile then clambered back to her before giving her its own version of a salute! “Good job, little guy. But we’re not out of the woods yet. Be on your watch…” she said, looking around again, before walking forward, searching deeper in…

After Izumi and Toto over here continued to hike forward, they then headed towards the part of the Zone that was starting to look like an underground cave; the two then heard a rustling noise not too far ahead. Wondering what it was this time around, she then pursed her lips; before deciding to send out another ally in order to help little Toto over here get stronger. As the Safari Ball popped open, it revealed an almost spherical creature that only had two eyes looming out from within its depths; and she then grinned—she knew that it was Gabriel’s time to shine once again; that plus she wanted to test out two of the new moves that she’d picked up for him in actual combat! Now that Toto and Gabriel were walking beside her, the rustling noise then ventured forward…only for the Trainer to smack her palm against her forehead; for it was looking to be another déjà vu event here! This is like… the third, fourth time I’ve encountered the so-called “master of the red-light district—at least that’s what Kouji calls this pink mass of unidentifiable… wait a second… she thought to herself as she looked up, a very wicked grin on her face.
She then cunningly stepped in front of the Toto, who was now overly-eager to get on with the program—and let her Shelgon step forward. “Shh, Toto. Let Gabe handle this. Watch how a real “master” does battle,” she hissed with a grin—and right then and there, the Ditto immediately launched itself into action; hurtling towards the Shelgon—and she then whistled sharply; a signal for her Gabriel to hold his ground. Back behind her leg (his current hiding spot), the Toto cautiously peered out—why were there two Shelgons on the battlefield?! The one that was charging towards Gabe suddenly shifted form—and then quickly let loose with an explosion of flames! “H-How the hell do you know Flamethrower?!” she shouted, quickly whistling a few tunes; her own Shelgon hardened his shell with the Iron Defense technique that he’d been itching to practice, before charging forward and taking the brunt of the explosion of flames! How the rounded thing was going to take a chomp out of this… pink blob-like creature that had dared take his form was out of this world; because the next few words came flying out,“Bite it! Or use Crunch! I don’t know whatever attack works, just make that imposter drop his form!”
The Shelgon roared; charging forward as best as he could—and then suddenly baring an even sharper row of fangs; before sinking it into the shell of the “imposter Shelgon”! She didn’t know that Gabe had used Crunch; since Bite was definitely out of the question—but he was so miffed, he didn’t like seeing another violate his own magnificent form! Once the imposter had let out a high-pitched yelp; one that definitely didn’t sound like a normal Shelgon’s grunt—she then continued on, “Zen Headbutt, then counter with Dragon Breath! Go!” while stepping back in order to be able to watch what was going on. The “imposter Shelgon” continued to blast flames from its own maw—had it just copied Flamethrower, out of all things that Gabe knew—while flailing around, trying to reconstitute his form; because that Crunch attack really did hurt a lot! As the swath of flames continued to fan out from the “imposter”, the real Gabriel continued to weather the flames; before managing to get as close as he could once again at the “fake” and then quickly rolling himself over and over—before actually connecting with Zen Headbutt! Unlike a normal kind of headbutt, Gabe’s “current version” of Zen Headbutt was influenced due to the fact that his current “form” had most of the whitish mane shielding him, so it delivered an extra blow or two at the “fake”.
The “fake” was still blasting out streams of fire as he then rolled back right-side up; before concentrating and then suddenly releasing a powerful blast of draconic energy that exploded on contact with the “fake”, causing it to reel backwards even more. Now that the “fake” was staggering, she then shouted, “Gabe! Show that thing what a real Flamethrower attack looks like! You know what? Make it two consecutive blasts of fire!” and then stood back, looking down and seeing that Toto was now staring at the battle, transfixed. With an almighty roar, the Shelgon then rolled forward again before coming to a stop in front of the “fake” once again; before suddenly unleashing a powerful stream of flames; countering and cancelling out the flames that the “fake” was producing! As the “fake” Shelgon screeched in surprise as the “real” flames seemed to hurt it more than usual, Gabriel redoubled his efforts and sent out another blast of flames; just as hot as the first stream of fire that he’d emitted just seconds ago! Now that the “fake” was stumbling, she then watched as his form flickered and changed; until he turned back into a blob of pink!
“NOW! Give ‘im hell, Gabe!” she shouted again, pointing forward. Now that he’d been given full rein on doing whatever he wanted to the ugly thing, he then charged forward, conjuring up a ball of draconic energy; before quickly releasing it at point-blank range, causing the Ditto to squeal in pain. After the sudden blast of draconic energy had been launched at him, the Ditto attempted to reassume his form—but was suddenly and abruptly cut off by the Shelgon, who had somehow managed to take the Ditto in a surprise Crunch attack; before shaking around violently, prompting the Ditto to squeal around in extreme pain; until the Shelgon had dropped it down on the ground. It was now just a shivering mass of pink goo; which then attempted to slither away—but not before the Shelgon blasted it with one last Flamethrower attack, sending it back into the shadows!

She chuckled as the Shelgon then proceeded to bowl into her; but she steeled her legs at the very last second in order to brace herself for the hit; because Gabriel was coming in for a hug! Well, it’s more of a tackle-hug, but who cares about that… she thought as she then crouched down and then gave the whitish mane—that was now acting like a protective cocoon over her Shelgon—a very vigorous rub. “Heh, nice job back there, Gabe,” she began, grinning before patting the thing continuously; much like a basketball. As she heard the Shelgon gave a growl of approval, the Totodile then looked up and gave a roar; before watching another shape dart back out—and she thought she’d taken a step back in time; because there was another Axew waiting to challenge them! She was about to send the Shelgon at the Axew—when she noticed a very weird change overtake the Totodile; he then stepped forward and began chirping out, “Toto, toto, totodile!” while pointing at the Axew—who was now gathering a ball of draconic energy and was getting ready to send it at the weird blue baby crocodile (or was it an alligator)!
“Snap. Toto, Dragon Dance and get out of there!” she shouted, watching as the Shelgon then trotted off to watch the little Totodile fight on his own; it was like a master watching his student take on his very first actual opponent. The blue young croc then sprang into action; quickly doing a weird sort of dance in order to be able to raise his stats; before diving out of the way of the Dragon Rage attack! What if this is the exact same Axew that he’d beaten up earlier? Or maybe they’re twins…? Meh, I’ll find out later! she thought with an owlish look on her face as the Axew then prepared another attack; this time its own stubby limbs glowing with a weird purplish hue. “Get out of the way! That’s Dragon Claw! Counter it with Crunch, and then look for a chance to use Ice Punch!” she shouted; but the command came a few seconds too late—as the Totodile was then sent flying through the air due to the contact that the Dragon Claw had made! She then flinched and looked away; and heard the high-pitched squeal of the Totodile cut through the space as he was sent airborne; before landing again with a loud crash on the rocky ground.
Ouch, that’s definitely got to hurt… she thought as the Totodile then landed on the ground with a loud thudding noise; and she then brought herself to look at the blue croc, he was pulling himself up and was now performing another Dragon Dance in order to be able to boost his stats! “Keep going! Don’t give up! Use Dragon Dance a few more times; then wait for an opening—counter that Axew with Ice Punch once it comes too close!” she shouted; and the Toto nodded; performing the same dance over and over again; he felt his own stats rise higher and higher. Once he’d reached the brink of what the Dragon Dance status addition could give, the Toto then stood his ground, watching the Axew intently—it then began gathering another burst of draconic energy; before firing off another Dragon Rage attack! “Dodge! Come in close and do it! Ice Punch!” she called out; watching as the boosted Speed of the Toto allowed him to zip by easily, quickly closing the distance.
As the Axew prepared to unleash Dragon Claw on the Toto, she was surprised—where had the target gone?! Izumi then noticed that the Toto had chosen to cut behind the Axew; before quickly charging up its fist with arctic energy—before unleashing a solid Ice Punch on the Axew’s back, powered up by the several instances of Dragon Dance that he’d performed prior to finally launching the attack! As the Dragon-type then squealed as she was launched through the air; the Toto then waited for the little dark-green Dragon-type to fall—where his maw was waiting, opened up wide. “Whoa,” Izumi hissed to herself as the Toto then snapped its maw shut on the Axew; hearing another loud, high-pitched squeal of pain as the young Croc ‘mon had used Crunch upon landing; and then—quite ironically, as if mirroring the Shelgon—began shaking the Axew over and over while it was still caught in its mouth! “The hell… Gabe, did you teach him to do that…?” she asked, her eyebrows raised high while pointing at what was going on—to which her Shelgon replied with a very cheeky gesture!
After flailing around with the Axew for a few moments; she then whistled, “Hey. HEY! Toto! Drop the Axew now. I assume they’d had enough…” and then watched as the Totodile spat out the bleeding Axew; who looked like it was on the verge of collapse! She then watched as the Dragon-type then limped away; before the Toto walked over, looking all proud of himself.

Now that they’d manage to drive off the Axew (or what she presumed was its older or younger sister, who knew) the three then continued their march deeper into the Safari Zone—before they all heard the whirring sound of something… annoying. Well, it wasn’t annoying, more like it sounded like something that was flapping its wings way too quickly; and was increasing in pitch. “I wonder what this one is now…” she began; before she noticed that her Shelgon had quickly stepped forward and had suddenly blasted the darting shape with a Flamethrower attack! “Whoa! Gabe, you could at least give me proper warning before doing that…” she said, jumping out of the way as the Shelgon began growling aggressively—and its chant was picked up by the Totodile; as the two then walked forward and began looking around quite carefully. The shape was still around—and the Totodile was on his guard—when Gabriel suddenly launched another blast of Flamethrower; and had managed to stop the thing dead in its tracks.
Now that the “culprit” had been exposed, Izumi found herself looking at this… rather strange thing; she didn’t know if it was a ghost; or if it was something that was crackling. Either way, it was emitting a lot of static electricity—and she could feel her hair beginning to rise. Uh-oh. I don’t have time to fix my hair again… she thought to herself as she pointed forward, before beginning, “Gabe, keep hammering away at it with Flamethrower! Toto, you know what to do. Dragon Dance as much as you can; and try to drop it out of the air! You guys are way too vulnerable for a flying enemy!” before standing off to one side—and the two leapt into action. For starters, the Shelgon then growled before quickly releasing another blast of flames at the weird, sparking plasmic-like entity (she had no idea what this one was called) which was in the middle of a Charge status changer! She then realized that Toto was in more danger than Gabe was—because for starters, Toto was a Water-type… and Electric-types could deal massive damage to a Water-type! Shit. I have to end this fast otherwise this is going to get real ugly… she thought as she then smacked a palm to her forehead, before shouting again, “Move, Toto! That thing’s going to blast a—“ she trailed off as the weird Electric-like thing suddenly released a globular sphere of energy which she recognized.
Without warning, the Rotom then blasted the Electro Ball—at the Totodile. The Shelgon was still trying to distract it with Flamethrower; and had actually tried to cut off the incoming trajectory of the globular-shaped energy sphere (with little success) as it screamed in the air, hitting the Totodile and smacking it upside the head! She then heard a squeal of pain issue from the Toto; as the super-effective attack had literally done a number on it—and before they could do anything else; the Rotom had seemingly vanished, only to be replaced with what looked like a… weird doll. Ah, snap, it Subbed out! She thought with this look of anger; before realizing that it was the prime chance to take it down and out! “Gabe! Toto! Look over there! Attack it, now! While it’s still in that form!” she shouted, pointing right at it. The Shelgon grunted; before quickly raising his Defense as high as he could go with Iron Defense; before changing and then charging towards it, baring its maw of extremely sharp fangs! It was coming in for a Crunch attack from one side; whereas for the Totodile, she then watched him pick himself up, staggering; but a thumbs-up gesture from her then drove him to charge on, aided by the Dragon Danced stats. She then saw his fist crackling with arctic energy; and the two converged on the Rotom; getting a Crunch from one side; an Ice Punch from another. As the “body double” was still in place, she then called out, “Redouble your efforts!”
The Shelgon stepped back, before taking a deep breath—and then unleashing a strong stream of flames at the “body double”; while the Toto then backed away; before stomping on the ground—and suddenly, there were pieces of rock flying through the air, screaming towards the “body double” Rotom—it had used Rock Slide! As the pieces of rock passed through the steady stream of flames that the Shelgon was unloading on the Rotom’s “double”, the rocks became something close to mini-meteors; before hammering down on the thing without any let-up. Izumi knew that any Normal-type moves were useless; so she continued, “Do that combo again! Gabe! Keep up the Flamethrower, and Toto, aim your Rock Slide well! Let it pass through the flames! Then hit it with everything you have!”
“Toto!”
“Shelgon!”
The two ‘mons then quickly regrouped—but something was happening, it was like she was getting a weird, creepy feeling—the Rotom had momentarily vanished; in order to be able to unleash its Ominous Wind attack—before the “body double” fell back into place! The two were then buffeted by the ghostly wind and she could hear them howling out of rage and surprise—but they promptly redoubled their efforts. The Shelgon took another deep breath—before continuing to unleash the steady stream of flames; while the Toto took a few steps back; before stomping on the ground and causing the dislodged rocks to fly through the air, passing through the blazing stream of fire! The “mini-meteors” then pelted the Rotom from all sides; before smacking it around and around—and after repeated effort, the “body double” fell away and the real Rotom reappeared. “Crunch duo! Both of you, go!” she shouted, pointing forward—and the two then charged as fast as they could manage—with Toto taking the lead—before baring their maws with rows of sharp fangs at the Rotom who was now battered and bruised! The Crunch attack from the Totodile hit first; before he backed away and then decided to assist the Shelgon with Ice Punch—as the Dragon-type then began taking as many bites out of the thing as possible, Crunching its way through the Rotom with its fangs!
The Rotom then squealed as it tried to conjure up another Electro Ball; but failed—instead opting for another Ominous Wind attack, striking the two and knocking them away—it then tried to fly up again; but was instead met by the Totodile’s frozen fist; which smacked it hard and sent it back to the ground! As the Rotom fell through the short space it had managed to gain some airtime, it was then bathed with flames, courtesy of another Flamethrower from the Shelgon! The Electric (or was it a Ghost?) ‘mon then crashed to the ground—and at this point, Izumi chucked the Safari Ball at it, hoping that it would come with her! Well, after all, someone wants this thing… so why not? She thought as the Rotom was sucked into the red light…

She wasn’t surprised—why did it take two ‘mons to take down just one Electric-like entity; or was it a Ghost-type because of the way that it could use Ominous Wind—and blinked as the Safari Ball continued to shake. After the third shake, it went off with a “ding”, signifying that it had already given up and had submitted to the “will of the Ball”! Izumi then raised her hands out of victory—but what was even more surprising was the fact that the two “minions” that she’d sent out—Gabriel and Toto, respectively—were looking weird. In fact, she blinked and then realized that the two were bathed in the very-familiar “sudden lights show”; a sign that they were evolving! This means more to Gabe, because of his dream…! She thought as she watched the spectacle, her hands cupped over her mouth in order to prevent her own jaw from dropping. It lasted but a brief moment, and the lights show faded away—and there were two very different, yet she knew that they were still the same—‘mons standing right before her.
Totodile was Toto no more, he looked taller; and it was like he was wearing some sort of “prehistoric” garb over his pot belly; and when he gave a wave, she waved back; and heard him grunt, “Croco. Croco. Croco…naw? Croconaw!” before looking down and admiring his own new and improved body. He wasn’t the little runt any longer—he was much stronger now! The one that had Izumi’s full attention was Gabriel—after languishing in the “cocoon” form for the longest time, he then let out a blood-curdling roar; before flapping his brand-new, broad, red wings. He was a shell no longer; in fact it had peeled right at the moment the lights show had engulfed him—and he then took a running start before finally lifting off—and at that moment, Izumi finally burst into tears of joy—for her Gabriel’s dream was now realized! She then heard him roar from above; and it was one of those roars of joy; she then looked up and then whistled; before watching the speck quickly look down—and then the silhouette soared down again, in order to stop for a three-point landing right in front of her.
“Gabe… Toto… or should I call you Croco now…” she began, looking at the Croco before letting the bigger, better Water-type dash in and tackle her legs for a hug; before continuing, “Gabe… I can’t believe it… you… YOU DID IT!” she shouted, and the Salamence also grunted, before roaring again; his far-off dream had finally come true! “Well, the next thing we need to work on: you have to learn how to carry me… for now, we walk…” she said with a tearful grin on her face; before approaching the Salamence and giving him the tightest of hugs that she could manage; before recalling the two back to their containment units and getting out of the Safari Zone for a short celebration at her favorite restaurant.
