Deciding to take a quick stopover in this part of the world, Izumi then hopped off of her Braviary’s back and then went straight inside the Blackthorn Pokemon Center; before swapping out Sora for another member of her team. This time, it was a search filled with purpose; one that she’d been meaning to get to. She had been hoping to encounter a Skarmory in the wild back in Hoenn, but the conditions didn’t seem too favorable. This time, though, was going to be a bit different—she was looking for that same ‘mon in this region. wondering why that particular ‘mon had suddenly become rare to all hell, she then squared her shoulders as she then marched out of the Center, and then looked around—she was as close as she could get to the City of Dragons; however, she’d be dealing with that another time. For now, it was off to the outskirts of town with her…
The moment she’d stepped outside of the city limits, she then plucked a Pokeball from her pocket, and then sent out its occupant—and she was not surprised to see that she had called out her unusually-colored Torchic, Zira. “Torrr?” she heard the Chick ‘mon ask, upon seeing that they were not in Hoenn anymore; before she spoke to her in a quiet voice, “We’re here on the search for something… something that I wasn’t able to find back home. Now, bear with me, and let’s go. This should prove interesting for us both… and training as well,” she ended, watching as the Torchic then assumed point position, before scratching at the ground and then walking forward. She then followed the storm cloud-colored little thing, making out the bright shock of blue that was her head feathers, bobbing in and out of the tall grass. Would she be able to find what she was seeking, at least here?

With her out and about, bobbing through the bushes, it didn’t take too long before the first target had been sighted—and it looked like a stubby little thing, pawing away at the hard-packed ground that dotted the place here and there! “Heh, what’s this…” Izumi trailed off, seeing that it was apparently trying to dig for something… and that Zira was riled up, ready to fight it! “Whoa. Alright, if you insist,” she began, watching as the Torchic waited anxiously for orders, before she began, “Focus Energy up first; then go Sand Attack! Once it’s blinded, go in for Slash!” she began, pointing forward—and the Phanpy that had been trying to dig for buried berries was taken aback at the sudden presence! Letting out a squeal of shock, the Phanpy then prepared itself for battle as well, curling up into a ball in order to raise its Defense—and this was a bad thing. “Shoot, Normal… or Ground?” she muttered a few moments later as the Torchic then kicked up some of the loose ground—right at the moment the Phanpy then unfurled itself, receiving a faceful of dirt and letting out a squeal of shock!
“Phaaaanpy!” she heard it cry out, before immediately going into Rollout—launching itself into a rolling spin—and then began attempting to slam itself into the unusually-colored Torchic. “Slash!” she called out, and Zira let out a cry of agitation, before quickly taking a running start and then leaping at the last second, barely missing the rolling Phanpy—and then catching its backside with its clawed feet! “Alright, Flamethrower it as it goes in for a second round!” she continued, watching as the Phanpy then changed direction and then attempted to catch it again—but was surprised to have walked into a sudden explosion of indigo-colored flames that the Torchic had released! Izumi could only stare at the stream of unusually-colored fire and just sigh, before deciding to make the most of it. The Phanpy was now officially caught-off guard, and she continued, “Alright, Zi, Slash again, then another Flamethrower!” and the Chick ‘mon flew into action, as the Phanpy then attempted to use Rollout once again.
As the rolling red-and-light blue thing came hurtling close, she watched as the Torchic waited—before jumping up high and then delivering the Slash from above, before quickly chaining into Flamethrower and bathing the rolling thing in its indigo-colored flames once again! The Phanpy then let out a cry of shock as the fire scorched it from all angles, and then attempted to roll away—but the Torchic was hot on its trail. “Alright, again! Same combination!” she continued, and watched as Zira flew into action, chasing down the Phanpy and this time using Flamethrower first, to cut off its escape route; before quickly coming down with another Slash attack; this time sending it far down and out of their line of sight. “Ouch, harsh,” she muttered to herself as the Torchic continued to look around for anything else to possibly torch, cook, or just plain set on fire.

It didn’t take too long before the next ‘mon had decided to make a rather unceremonious appearance-it was sneaking up behind Izumi and then took flight at the very last second, the whooshing noise catching her attention—but it was too late, for she’d ended up being smacked upside the head by a Gligar that was apparently spitting mad, all because she’d stepped into its territory! “Ow!Stupid little…” she growled, attempting to swat the thing out of the air—but it soared out of her reach and was now flying low, headed right towards the preoccupied Torchic! “Zi, look behind you! Catch it with Flamethrower!” she screeched, and the Torchic turned around not too soon—and saw a purple blur headed her way! In response, the storm cloud Chick then rolled off to one side, before inhaling and then releasing a hot stream of indigo fire; nicking the Gligar’s tail—why was it flying so fast?! The Gligar then did a quick stop in mid-air, before changing direction and charging towards the little weird-colored bird on the ground, one of its claws ready with a Sky Uppercut attack, aimed to at least knock the thing off its feet!
“Roll to one side, then Sand Attack! Try to distract it, then once you do, Slash it! Make it slow down!” she continued, holding her cheek; the place where the Gligar had smacked her. It was throbbing under her touch, but it was nothing serious—it would leave a rather interesting-shaped mark on her face for a few days though. The Gligar had flown close and had begun the preliminary assault when Zira suddenly rolled off to one side before kicking up a flurry of sand at the incoming Gligar! It then let out a shriek of surprise, before switching tactics and then suddenly letting an earsplitting Screech loose, stunning the Torchic fo a few seconds due to the sudden noise! “Tooorrrr!” she cried out, shell-shocked and trying to shake off the effects of the surprise status-lowering attack—before the Gligar came in close and then began its X-Scissor attack, gnashing the pincers like a pair of scissors! “Zi! Move!” she all but screamed, and the Torchic then snapped back to reality, before quickly strafing off to one side, barely missing the brunt of the X-Scissor attack—in exchange though, a few of her head feathers were shorn off; and that set her off like a volcano.
“Uh-oh…” was all Izumi had time for as the Torchic then took a leap before coming down with a Slash attack on the shocked Gligar, who was still trying to correct his bearings and come in close for another attempt at Sky Uppercut, when instead it hovered there, quickly using Harden in order to raise its Defense—not that it was going to help much, because it only felt like a Scratch attack to the Gligar! “Alright, bathe it with fire! Flamethrower the Gligar before it gets away!” she continued, and watched as Zira was leaping away, she twisted in mid-air before unleashing another hot stream of the indigo-colored flames, right before the Gligar could have a chance to flee! She then heard a loud screech from the thing, and then tried to swat off the unusually-colored fire as best as it could; to no avail. “Drive him back with another Flamethrower, that’s a good girl, now!” she added, and the Torchic renewed the blast of scorching-hot fire, forcing the thing to glide off and out of its territory. Now that they had managed to fend off two, what else would come hurtling their way?

As Izumi (and subsequently Zira) continued to look around the area, they chanced upon a particular canine-like Pokémon… which she already happened to have, and was suddenly reminded of! Ah, shoot. That reminds me, I have to raise Makara… she thought to herself, slapping a palm to her face because there was this little visual reminder staring at her right now. The Houndour was intently observing them—but its attention was drawn to the strangely-colored Torchic that was right in front of it. it was like a stare-down contest; the two ‘mons were looking—more like glaring—at each other, waiting for their opponent to make the first move. The Houndour then decided to break the stand-off, quickly closing in the distance before coming in with a Feint Attack; catching the Torchic by surprise! “Snap. Zi, Flamethrower!” she began, not realizing that the Fire-type attack on this Houndour was a big mistake! The Chick ‘mon complied, taking a deep breath before releasing a stream of indigo-colored flames, rocketing towards the Houdour—but it wasn’t even fazed!
“Oh, shit. What the hell?!” she hissed, watching as this time, the canine closed the distance and then came from the left side with a Beat Up attack! “Brace yourself, Zi! Focus Energy again, then roll aside if you can!” she continued, and watched as the Torchic then steeled its footing, taking a deep breath and focusing her attention to the charging canine. Just as the Houndour came in with the beginning strike of the Beat up attack, the Chick ‘mon then deftly rolled aside, causing the Hondour to snap at nothing but air! This then enraged the canine, causing it to wheel back and then suddenly vanish—it had used Feint Attack once again! “Slash it when it reappears!” she continued, and the Torchic began scanning her surroundings—would it be coming from the left? From the right? The answer then came as a surprise, because the Houndour had suddenly appeared right in front of her and slammed its weight into her, knocking her backwards! “Now! Go, Slash!”
“Tooooorrr!”
The Chick ‘mon then took a running start before jumping up—and then bearing its claws on its feet, swiping downwards in a Slash attack as she came to a rolling landing, causing the canine ‘mon to howl out in surprise and shock! “Alright, Sand Attack when he gets too close, then Slash it!” she continued to call out, and Zira then waited for the Houndour to approach—and it was closing the distance again with a Beat Up attack. “Now!” and the Torchic promptly retaliated by kicking up the dust on the ground, causing the Houndour, who had already gotten so close, to yelp out of surprise at the sneak attack! “End it!” she added, and the Torchic then leaped up high before coming down again with slash, effectively knocking away the Houndour from their path, sending it howling in pain as it ran away from the two! “Now… for the next one…”

After successfully driving off three ‘mons, Izumi and Zira were pretty sure they were going to have to search more in this area—because the last thing that crossed their paths as something that she already had in her possession. “Welp, of all things why did it have to be a Bonsly…” she trailed off, smacking a palm to her face as the Torchic eyed the miniature tree with a steely glint in her eyes. After a few moments of debating, she then whistled in the Torchic’s direction, before saying, “Zi. Don’t engage unless it initiates,” she trailed off, before trying to look around for something in order to be able to get out of the situation. She knew that there was a type-disadvantage in play at the moment, and the Bonsly looked pretty docile, just eating away at some dried-up grass; and the Torchic continued to leer at it until she spoke up once again.
“Come on, let’s look further out, maybe we’ll find what we need over there on the other side,” she said, gesturing towards a walkway that led to a bridge, that connected to an even taller patch of grass. She knew that climbing over the hedges wouldn’t be easy, but she could definitely manage; and the Torchic then turned tail and followed her as they ventured deeper into wild territory; because apparently she had not found what she was looking for—but it served as good practice for the Torchic in order to be able to get some practice in when encountering wild Pokémon. Alright, it’s like the Litleo nightmare in Kalos all over again… when am I going to find that crazy bird… she thought to herself as she then headed forward, skirting around the Bonsly, the Torchic on her heels.
