On his way back from his last Badlands expedition, Josh had decided to do some exploring. All these times he had come to Kalos, and he hadn't bothered to see the sights and explore the region as much as he should have. What kind of travelling Trainer was he if he only went and explored Hoenn, right? He knew it was time to broaden his horizons, and this was the time.
For now, he was just outside Ambrette Town, taking a gander at the sights. With him were his Totodile, Vector, and his Squirtle, Bastilo. He'd decided to take these two, along with a few others, with him on this trip. As they walked about though, looking out at the clear afternoon sky and the rough terrains around them, Josh wondered what exactly they would find?
"Are you two getting along back there?" he called out to Bastilo and Vector, who were arguing behind him. He shot them both a look and they immediately stopped arguing and stood at attention, nodding. "Are you sure?" he asked with a smirk. They both nodded again, with Bastilo giving a salute in affirmative. Vector would see this as showing off and attempt the same salute... Only to bonk himself in the face with his claw. Bastilo would start laughing heavily as he pointed down at the Totodile, who'd gotten knocked on his butt from the smack.
Josh let out an exasperated sigh. This had quickly turned into a wayward episode of Family Feud, and not the game show kind.

"Vector, calm down!" Josh said as he tried to keep his Totodile from biting the Squirtle's head off, holding the Totodile by the torso as the water Pokemon tried to repeatedly chomp at the laughing Squirtle. Josh shot Bastilo a glare. "That goes for you too, Bastilo" he scolded coldly. "You're supposed to be a team. And one day, you two are going to need each other. That is a fucking promise" he growled. What did Bastilo do? Laugh.
Josh groaned and released the Totodile, and he immediately made a mad dash for the laughing Squirtle, who would run for his life. What ensued was a Benny Hill-like chase that went all over the area. Along the way, the Squirtle would leap behind a rock, bouncing off the head of a Helioptile, but would ignore the stomp and keep running. Not realizing the Pokemon was there, Vector would leap behind the stone as well, also bouncing off the head of the poor Pokemon and running after his hated enemy.
The both of them would come to a crashing halt though, when both their Pokeball beams would almost hit the both of them. "Stop" Josh said, sighing. "That's enough, you're going to get hurt if you keep up like this" he said calmly. The both of them would point at the other. "Squirtle, Squirt!" Bastilo protested, obviously blaming the Totodile. "Toto-Dile!" Vector responded as he pointed at the Squirtle. He thought it was his fault! He started it!
It wouldn't matter though, as a burst of electricity would suddenly go flying toward the both of them. Bastilo would see it first, and in a surprising turn of events would push Vector out of the way, but had no time to keep himself from taking the full brunt of the Charge attack himself.
"Bastilo!" Josh let out as he ran over to check on his Squirtle. Sure, he was irritated at the both of them for fighting so much, but he still loved the both of them like his own children, like he did for all his Pokemon, and would step in immediately if they got hurt!
"What happened?" he asked, before noticing the angry Helioptile, who had attacked the two Pokemon after they had unknowingly stepped on it's head, and was preparing another attack to shoot toward the three of them. But what it didn't expect was an angry Vector to suddenly stand in front of Josh and Bastilo, and a giant purple scary mask would appear in front of the Totodile, alarming the Helioptile and causing it to jump, the speed change giving Vector time to charge right at it and nail it with Rage, in the form of a red claw, as the Totodile's eyes went a dark red. The Helioptile would start spinning it's ears as it got up, using them to fly through the air and attempted to slam them into the Totodile in mid-air, sending Vector flying back. In his Rage state though, it didn't keep him down long, and with the speed difference he would be able to get up quickly and leap into the air, the claw turning red again as he slammed it into the Heliptile, with more damage this time.
But the Helioptile would manage to stay airborne and would begin preparing for another Charge attack. "Stop!" Josh called out to Vector, who would stop in his tracks, just staring the electric pokemon down... Waiting for the order, despite his rage...
A ball of electricity would be formed and sent flying toward Vector. Josh's fists clenched as he waited... Waited....
"DODGE NOW, VECTOR!" he let out at the last moment, and Vector would roll out of the way as the electric attack would explode on the ground. "Rage!" he exclaimed. Vector would leap into the air one more time, the claw glowing red again... "Toto... DILE!" he let out as he slammed it into the unsuspecting Helioptile, sending it crashing into a rock. Josh would quickly pull out a Pokeball and toss it at the weakened Pokemon, hoping to get it before it can get up and attempt another electric attack.
Boop.
Boop.
Boop.
Toooo~
"Thank Arceus..." Josh muttered as he picked up the Pokeball, and would pat Vector on the head. "Great job..." he managed to get out, his throat a bit hoarse. The two would walk over to Bastilo, who was just sitting up. "Hey buddy, you alright?" Josh asked as he leaned down to check on Bastilo. "Squirtle, Squirt..." he let out. "Good job to you too. That was great of you to protect us from that Helioptile's electric attack" he said. "Toto..." Vector let out, sounding like he regretted the argument, as he held out a hand to shake. The Squirtle nodded and shook his hand. It seemed they had come to a truce. For now, anyway.
"Alright, we better keep going" he said with a small smile. "Once you guys recover, we got more exploring to do" he said as he pointed out to the open world in front of them. "We got a region to explore!"
"Toto-Dile!" Vector let out excitedly as he held a claw up. "Squirtle!" Bastilo let out as he did the same.

As the group of 3 continued to walk after the first catch, Josh noticed that the two behind him weren't arguing. Instead they were both rather quiet. "Hey, you two alright back there?" he asked concerned as he looked back at them. "Squirtle Squirt!" Bastilo let out. "Toto-dile!" Vector responded. Seems without the arguing and fighting, things were a little dull, but Josh was glad at least that they had reached a truce for now.
But their quiet time would be shattered at Josh and Bastilo would immediately dodge out of the way of a charging Rhyhorn, who didn't seem happy that they had intruded on it's territory. Vector, unfortunately, hadn't been so lucky, and was sent flying back after that. "Vector!" Josh let out as he watched the Totodile crash to the ground. "Squirtle!" Bastilo let out angrily as he stared down the Rhyhorn, who seemed primed and ready to tear the Squirtle apart. It would immediately charge at the Squirtle, who would respond by bringing out a large ball of water, Water Pulse, and shooting it the Rhyhorn's way. It would hit it's mark and stop it's charge, but it would also just make the Rhyhorn even madder despite the Super Effective shot. The Rhyhorn's horn would suddenly start spinning like a drill as he continued to charge seconds later, sending the Squirtle flying back. "Squirt!" he let out as he flew back, curling into his shell in mid-air to cushion the landing as he hit the ground. "Bastilo!" Josh let out. "Come on, Bastilo, work with me!" he said as the Squirtle got to his feet.
"Bastilo, use Rapid Spin!" Josh called, getting an idea. "Squirtle!" Bastilo let out as he leaped toward the Rhyhorn, curling into his shell and letting it spin. Sadly, the Rhyhorn would respond by slamming into the shell with Chip Away, sending it into the air. "Hold on, Bastilo!" Josh called out. "Aim yourself to land on top of it!" he called. Bastilo remained in his shell and attempted to angle his fall as the Rhyhorn's horn started spinning again. Just as the horn was inches from the shell though, Josh would call out. "Bastilo, use Aqua Tail!"
Bastilo would suddenly curl out of his shell as his tail glowed a light cyan, before he slammed it into the Rhyhorn, sending it flying back and slamming into a boulder. The Rhyhorn was having trouble getting up at this point.
"Pokeball, go!" Josh called as he pulled out a Pokeball and tossed it at the Rhyhorn, watching it get sucked in... Better to have it be caught then have it cause them more trouble.

Doot~
"That's two today!" Josh commented with a grin as he picked up the Pokeball and watched as it disappeared, being automatically sent to the Ranch his parents owned. Better there then being stuck in common storage, right? He finally let out a breath in relief. God, was he happy to see that be over. And the looks on the faces of his two Pokemon told the same thing. "I... Think it's time we headed back to town" he said with a chuckle as he patted the heads of both of his water types. "Squirtle, Squirt!" Bastilo let out in agreement. "Toto! Toto-Dile!" Vector agreed. Finally, these guys were agreeing.
"Well, let's head to town and get something to eat" he said. The two Pokemon cheered in agreement as they started to head back. It'd be just fine... Right?
Wrong.
It seemed that a Pokemon nearby had seen this duo take out and capture two of it's cohorts, two fellow wild Pokemon... And instead of fleeing, it decided that it needed a challenge. This Scraggy... It needed a challenge. And it made that known as it would suddenly leap out of the tall grass and aim a kick at the face of Bastilo, sending the Squirtle into it's shell and crashing into a tree. Oh lord, here we go again.
"Toto-DILE!" Vector let out, obviously enraged at his new best friend being attacked. Again. He just wanted to go eat, man! "You ready for this, Vector?" Josh asked, after checking to see if his Squirtle was alright. Apparently the Totodile was ready, especially when Josh heard that now-familiar sound, as the Totodile beside him was engulfed in a white light. Yet, Josh's eyes widened. What the hell, WHERE in the hell was this coming from? Within seconds, his Vector had evolved into a Croconaw, and it's rage was focused on the poor thing that had challenged it.
Boom, Josh didn't even have to say anything. Rage. An instant Rage attack by the newly minted Croconaw had driven beat red to it's claws, and within seconds those claws would slam their way into the head of the Scraggy, sending it flying back into a rock. It had stunned the wild Pokemon, but it wouldn't bring it down as it would get up and go for a Low Kick, trying to bring down the big guy. Vector would trip, but wouldn't stay down long despite the fact that right after it would deliver a second Low Kick to Vector's head. Desperation, that was in his mind, he had to attack, defend himself. And that he did, with a Flail attack hitting the Scraggy while the Croconaw was down, allowing him to get up and hit a Crunch, slamming those jaws into the arm of the Scraggy that let out a pained scream. What the hell was it thinking, challenging something with such strong jaws? That was probably going through it's head before the Rage attack would be the finish, his claw being Scraggy's kryptonite as it sailed into his jaw, the movements being almost like it was in slow motion in Josh's eyes as it struck into the jaw of the Scraggy, before time seemed to turn back and off the slow motion dial in Josh's vision as it sailed. It sailed, high, high it went, into the sky after that stronger then normal Rage from the certainly enraged Vector. Finally, the Scraggy came down, and down it went at high speeds. It crashed into the ground with a loud thud, out cold.
Josh let Vector calm down as he tossed the Pokeball, watching as Bastilo got up from the sitting position he'd been using to watch the battle, to walk over and look over this lunatic looking crocodile that just five minutes ago was his new best friend. Josh let the Pokeball suck up the Scraggy, feeling catchy today, as he looked to see the two engaging in conversation in their name-spewing Poke Language.

"Thank god..." he muttered as he picked the Pokeball up. Thank the heavens it was over. Finally, they could head back. "Cmon guys" Josh said as he motioned for the two to follow him. The two water Pokemon nodded in agreement and followed the blonde at a brisk pace as he watched the Pokeball disappear into thin air. Another one for the ranch, he supposed!
"Hey, I can see Ambrette Town!" Josh called out, grinning. Finally, it was getting dark after all! A warm bed, some food in their bellies and drink in their throats, and a good nights sleep awaited them soon enough, he thought to himself!
Right?
Wrong.
Something would suddenly slam into both Bastilo and Vector from behind with spikes. Seems it didn't like strangers intruding on it's territory! They would both tumble down the rocky hill before coming to a stop.
"Vector! Bastilo! You two alright?" Josh called out. The two Pokemon groaned as they got up before eying the Ferroseed. "Crrrroc!" Vector let out angrily, wanting a fight. "Squirtle, Squirt!" Bastilo responded, nudging him aside. It seemed Bastilo wanted to be the one to battle! Josh tilted his head... Was he seeing a pattern here?
"Wait a minute.." he muttered. That's it! These two had been playing one upsmanship with one another! It was a game! And now Bastilo wanted his turn. Josh smirked and nodded. "Alright Bastilo, you're up!" Josh instructed. "Rapid Spin!"
"Squirtle!" Bastilo let out before curling into his shell and spinning it. The spinning shell would charge up the hill, with Josh's rash choice causing him to lose speed from going uphill. Bad move, the Ferroseed would respond with Rollout, spinning toward Bastilo. That's where Josh's lack of strategy came back to bite him. Ferroseed going downhill caused it's Rollout to speed up, and become much more powerful to boot. The Ferroseed's Rollout and Bastilo's Rapid spin would collide, but with the power boost to Ferroseed's rollout, it would overpower the Rapid Spin and send Bastilo rolling back down the hill, falling and bonking onto his head.
"Fuck" Josh muttered. He knew he'd fucked up there. And learned a lesson. Okay, he was going to have to take the environment into accord...
Wait a minute...
"Bastilo, leap over that oversized durian and get further up the hill!" Josh called. "Squirtle!" Bastilo let out as he would get up and start running back up the hill, getting a running start...
"Jump now!" Josh called as the durian attempted a Tackle, missing and rolling down the hill as Bastilo would leap up, landing higher up on the hill after avoiding the attack. "Now, Rapid Spin!" he repeated. "Squirtle!" he called as he curled back into his shell as it began to spin, charging downhill at the Ferroseed. Direct hit, it'd strike it dead on and the hard shell would protect Bastilo from the spikes the Ferroseed possessed, knocking it back.
"Water Pulse!" Josh called quickly. "Squiiiiirrrrrrrrrr" he began as he started charging a ball of water. "Release it, now!" he said. "TLE!" the Squirtle let out as the ball of water would fly toward the Ferroseed, hitting the stunned durian dead on and spreading into a wave of water that submerged and washed away the big durian Pokemon. Seeing it down, and hopefully out for the time, Josh would throw another Pokeball. "Come on!" he said as it hit... The Ferroseed would be sucked into the Pokeball, and it would start ticking...
Josh looked over at the town. Once this was over, win or lose, they were going to sleep well tonight.

Nope.
The oversized durian would pop out of the Pokeball before it could fully catch it, and Josh let out a groan. "Urgh... Great" he said, giving a sigh. "Bastilo, you can't give up! You'll get him this time!" he encouraged. "Squirtle!" Bastilo chirped as they stood together to face down the Ferroseed. "Skull Bash!" he suddenly called.
"C-CROC?!" Vector shirked, looking over at his Trainer. Was he crazy? That thing had spikes all over it!
Bastilo seemed to be thinking the same, and hesitated for a moment, but Josh hadn't steered him wrong before... He decided to obey his commands and keep his ears open in case the blonde had something up his sleeve. The Squirtle would lower his head before taking to the air, soaring through it toward the Ferroseed. The Ferroseed would understand that it was filled with spikes and would hardly take damage at all, and would probably take down the Squirtle this way. As they were inches apart though...
"Bastilo, into your shell! Rapid Spin!" Josh suddenly called! That was the greatest thing the Squirtle had heard all day! Eagerly, he wrapped himself into his shell and started spinning, the velocity from the Skull Bash set-up allowing him to ram full speed into the Ferroseed, who's arrogance sent it flying back as it took a direct hit from the much more powerful then usual Rapid Spin. Bastilo would land on the bottom of the hill, and the giant durian would land on the side, rolling down the hill and coming to a stop at the bottom. "Aqua Tail!" Josh quickly called. "Squirtle!" Bastilo responded as he immediately charged at the Ferroseed, his tail glowing a bright cyan before he slammed it into the Ferroseed, direct hit, sending it back. "Look out!" he instructed as the Ferroseed would suddenly lash out at the Squirtle with a Payback attack, hitting it with similar damage to what Bastilo had just done. "Squirt!" he let out in pain as he fell back, dirt covering his skin and his shell, as well as the wounds he had suffered.
"Gah..." Josh muttered as he tried to think of a plan. He needed to be quick...
The spikes on the Ferroseed's body would begin glowing as it charged at Bastilo again. It was going for Metal Claw!
"Into your shell!" Josh commanded as it charged. Bastilo would nod and retreat into his shell once more, just barely protecting it from the Metal Claw attack's full brunt. One of the spikes though, would get stuck to the shell.
"Rapid Spin!" Josh instantly called. Bastilo would stay hidden in his shell as it began spinning, taking the Ferroseed with it. The Ferroseed would spin around and around and around and around, getting dizzy as the Squirtle picked up speed.
"Now, Water Pulse!" he called. "Squirt!" Bastilo let out as he would begin charging the ball of water again from within his shell, still spinning. It was shaky, but it kept charging, despite the obvious difficulty the Squirtle was having doing it.
"Now, release!" he called. "Squirtle!" Bastilo let out as the Water Pulse ball made contact with the Ferroseed at close range, bathing it in water again as it fell back, stunned. Likely on it's last legs.
Josh would quickly toss a Pokeball, exhausted, and watched as the oversized durian went in... Hopefully for the last time.
