This just works somehow as background music.
"Go long, Ace!" the blonde would call as he tossed a Frisbee. "Pidgeoooo!" something would cry out as Josh's Pidgeotto would soar across the beach.
"Ace, flap your wings and send it out father!" Josh commanded, his Pichu (Lightning) and his Cyndaquil (Inferno) watching from the beach towel under the umbrella as Ace would let out a "Pidgoooo!" and flap his wings quickly, sending it flying higher and further into the sky....
"Now, soar after it and grab it!" Josh commanded. Ace would comply, though the extra wind, combined with the beach's wind would send it into the city...
"Wait, Ace! Too far! Too far!" Josh called out.
"Gah, damnit..." he muttered. "Lightning, Inferno, let's go!" he said as he ran after Ace.
The two would run after him, and Ace would continue flying after the frisbee that would inevitably fly behind the local Pokemon Center... Unwillingly having the wind carry it into konking the head of someone training back there...
Was he a little spoiled in his travelling ability? Perhaps. Had he earned it? Most definitely. There was nothing like being able to traverse regions in the course of hours, given the right preparations. It was both very useful for matters related to work, such as the studying of certain discovered fossilized samples, or simple adventure and field work. His position and title would be very difficult to maintain, had he not the access to this kind of movement. Still, he was grateful for his evolved Pokemon, since they made life easier.
Behind the crystal screens of his glasses, sapphire-colored eyes looked at the Pokemon Center’s battling field, casually stretching before reaching inside his jacket to pull out a mighty four Poke Balls. His other two Pokemon were resting from the travelling, so it would be these four to keep him company. A soft smile spread on his face as he released the Pokemon within the capsules with a flash of light. Out came Mandragora, the Cradily, Bastion, the Shieldon, Orichalcum, the Anorith, and Mercutio, the Kabuto. Each Pokemon greeted their Professor, and each other, warmly, albeit some with more enthusiasm than the others. Mandragora, the evolved one out of the four, behaved more like a caretaker than anything else.
”Well, I thought it would be a nice time to have some training, since we’re out of the Laboratory for once. Mandragora, please, join me – Bastion, Ori, Mercutio, take positions in the training field. When I say go, simply start battling as you wish. Do be careful, however, and take it not too seriously.” Explained the Fossil Professor to his Pokemon, warmth in his voice. How happy it made him to share time with his Pokemon. As of late, he had spent many an hour in the laboratory, scrunched over some report from the Kalos region, or dealing with needless paperwork from the League. His life wasn’t hard, not at all – he was living his dream job. But it certainly could be a hassle when it wanted to be.
The Barnacle Pokemon slowly but surely made her way to the Professor’s side, quickly rooting herself next to the chair he had so fortuitously found. There was a non-spoken affection between them two – she was his first Pokemon, found ages ago as a Lileep. She was the apple of his eyes, and he was her best friend. The Professor’s hand drifted and softly patted the rock-head of the Cradily in affection, as the two watched the Pokemon begin their training.
The Anorith, being the swiftest of the three, jumped straight into the fray with Slash, but found itself meeting the Aqua Jet of the Kabuto. The Shieldon, however, made no move to intercede or enter within the fray. Instead, it watched, careful, ready for any second’s notice. As if on cue, the two other Pokemon turned against it, firing a Water Gun and Mega Drain. Stomping its little foot, the Shieldon cried out in defiance as it employed Protect, a sturdy green shield forming between it and the incoming attacks. Both Arthur and Mandragora nodded in approval.
”Very smart, Bastion, very smart! Your defensive qualities are your biggest strength, so keep playing th-“ Began the Professor, only to be cut off by a sudden and quick sensation of pain from the back of his head, the Frisbee knocking onto his noggin’. Rubbing the assaulted spot with one hand, the Professor turned to the Frisbee, adjusting his glasses. What in the name of…?
As he bent over to pick the culprit toy up, the Cradily next to him noted the incoming Flying-Type, as well as the Trainer and Pokemon that were not so far behind. The other three Fossils kept battling, no leads being made, but Arthur looked up, watching the Trainer with curious eyes. Had the toy come from him?

Running into the battlefield behind the Pokemon Center, Josh and his two smaller Pokemon would arrive to find Ace landing on the ground and picking up the frisbee. He turned to see his Trainer and allies come to a stop in front of the Professor as he flew up to hand the frisbe to him.
Josh sighed. "I apologize..." he said to the Professor. "If we interrupted your training. We were doing some training of our own on the beach, and Ace's wings flew the toy a bit too far away. He tried to grab it in the air, but it was going too fast. I hope we didn't cause you too much trouble" he explained politely.
He noticed a bunch of... Rather interesting Pokemon behind the man and raised a curious eye.
".... Aren't all these Pokemon either extremely rare or extinct?" he inquired curiously. He knew he shouldn't be asking, but he was curious...
"Apologies if that's sudden, considering we just interrupted your training" he added sheepishly, scratching his head. "I suppose my curiosity got the better of me. I've always been fascinated with Pokemon that are rumored to come from fossils of the past" he admitted.
The Pokemon behind the Professor and his Cradily did not cease their training, instead simply battling further. All three had very sturdy defenses, albeit some stronger than others, so they instead depended on openings and such to land a strong move. The Kabuto once again threw a Mega Drain attack, healing itself and dealing some damage to the Shieldon, but the Shield Pokemon simply responded with a mighty charge, smashing into the Kabuto with Iron Head. The three Pokemon were confident with each other, and knew that they could use moves without seriously hurting one another - not only did they trust their defenses, but they trusted each other.
As the Trainer (or what the Professor assumed to be a Trainer) explained himself, Arthur noted that Ace must the Pidgeotto next to him. Those other Pokemon should then be his as well - was he a new Trainer? Arthur had always been somewhat fond of new Trainers. It was an unspoken rule that all Professors should help out new Trainers, however they can. Some, of course, took to this rule with different levels of vigor and enthusiasm, but he was happy to say that the Fossil Professor cared as much for the old as he did for the new.
"No need to apologize." Replied Arthur to the first statement, adjusting his glasses again and looking back to the battling Pokemon. "I do think that it didn't really interrupt their training much." The Cradily on Arthur's side chuckled, nonchalantly rooting itself to take advantage of the nutrients in the area.
" Aren't all these Pokemon either extremely rare or extinct? Apologies if that's sudden, considering we just interrupted your training. I suppose my curiosity got the better of me. I've always been fascinated with Pokemon that are rumored to come from fossils of the past."
Now that was something that got the Professor interested.
"Hm. You would be correct - these are Fossil Pokemon, ancient species revived or otherwise kept from an ancient age. This is my Cradily, Mandragora," the Barnacle Pokemon bowed her head in a form of greeting, "And over there are Orichalcum, my Anorith, Mercutio, the Kabuto, and Bastion, the Shieldon. It is nice to see someone with an interest in my field - a rare thing, these days."
Mandragora chuckled and poked his side with one of her petal tentacles. Arthur simply blinked, and continued: "My apologies, I have yet to introduce myself. My name is Arthur Symphonia, a Pokemon Professor who focuses on Pokemon Paleontology and Fossil Research. A pleasure to become your acquaintance." Introduced the Professor, offering a greeting handshake. .

He nodded a bit as he accepted his apology and mentioned the names of the Pokemon. The thought of him collecting and studying Fossil Pokemon though... Interesting. Fascinating.
He looked over at the Fossil Pokemon and studied them carefully from afar. "Hmm... Interesting" he mused aloud as he scratched his beard, watching them before the Professor would introduce himself and extend his hand. He smiled and extended his own hand, shaking his. "Josh Dragomir, I'm a Pokemon Trainer from Littleroot Town" he introduced. "You study Pokemon raised from fossils then? How many of these have you found?" he asked curiously, looking over at his Pokemon again. This conversation had taken quite the interesting turn, pretty fast. Before this, he'd only heard rumors and stories of this kind of thing. But here this guy was, in living color, with a bunch of previously extinct Pokemon taken right from fossils!
The battle had taken an interesting turn, as the Fossils behind the Professors were delving near the ends of their Training session. It was slowly demonstrating a truth – the Kabuto and the Anorith simply did not have the resources to defeat the Shieldon – he was far too resilient. They had spent far too much energy into fighting each other, being the more aggressive ones, and had found that such was exactly the Shieldon’s plan. The Steel-Type went on an unrelenting offensive now, charging with Iron Head, and defending in turn. Slowly, yes, but surely, the Shield Pokemon was wearing the other two down until he stood alone, victorious. Still by the Professor, the Cradily nodded in approval – she too was a defensive fighter, albeit more like an artillery cannon.
Littleroot, huh? That was where Professor Birch was – he was a swell guy. Much like Juniper and himself, as well as Sycamore, Birch was one of the kinder Professors, willing to lend a hand to the newer Trainers. The Fossil Professor only paid a fraction of his attention to the training behind him – his Pokemon were able to do it by themselves, and this was something he was very much interesting in continuing. It always delighted him to meet someone that truly had an interest in his field.
”Well, I study more than the Pokemon themselves, though they are a big focus.” He explained. ”I also try to learn as much as I can decipher about their ancient habitats, biological structures, food sources and predatory behaviors, so on and so forth. We can learn so much from a single species, let alone a habitat we have never seen.”
”As of right now, I have 10 Pokemon Fossil species – Omastar, Kabuto, Aerodactyl, Cradily, Anorith, Relicanth, Shieldon, Archen, Tyrunt and Aurorus: all Pokemon I have worked alongside and raised, albeit some newer than others. I am, sadly, still missing a member of the Cranidos family, from the Sinnoh Region, and a member of the Tirtouga family, from the Unova Region. With those two, I would have access to all Fossil Pokemon families.” Once again, the Professor adjusted his glasses, a smile of what seemed to be anticipation on his face. He had worked hard to get to where he was, so being so close to yet another goal made him even happier.
Plus, he was talking to someone truly interested in the field.

A bit of him was focused on the battle, the rest focused on the conversation with this Professor fellow. Studying fossils was one thing, but towing around Pokemon resurrected from them and training them was a whole different story, one which, quite frankly he envied. But the Pokemon looked well taken care of, that he was happy about.
"Huh, anything you'd be willing to share?" he asked at his first statement. Anything Josh could learn about Pokemon, fossil Pokemon especially, would be great to have. Knowledge was something that Josh knew was great for any Trainer to have, no matter their specialty. The more understanding a Trainer had of the workings of any sort of Pokemon, the better off they would be at some point in their journey.
"10?" he asked when he spoke of his Pokemon. Geez, this guy was busy. But considering he spent his life around this body of work, maybe Josh shouldn't have been surprised. But he was so close to his goal, and Josh could almost feel the pride that the Professor felt in that, and the anticipating to accomplish it. He couldn't help but smile, seeing one so close to their goal and knowing that it'll come sooner or later.
"I actually saw a Tyrunt not too long ago" he said. "It got away, sadly, there was a lot going on at the time and it fled when my Pichu sensed it and flushed it out. Kind of disappointed I didn't catch it, but maybe one day I'll get another chance" he added with a small smile.
By this point, the battle was over – the two other Fossils, while strong, were not quite able to take down the Shieldon, who had the advantage of a good typing and strategically sound planning. With an Iron Head, the other two Pokemon cried out in surrender, while the Steel-Type relented, happy to go back to lazily laying about. The three Fossil Pokemon began resting now, laying calmly on the battlefield and taking a breather. Mercutio and Orichalcum would take note to focus Bastion early, in order to deal with his more defensive style.
”A Tyrunt, you say? And your Pichu flushed it out?” There was both keen interest and honest surprise in the Professor’s voice as he spoke. ”It must have been a newborn, then – a predator such as Tyrunt would not let a Pichu escape without attempting to hunt. And if it was a newborn, then count yourself lucky you found not its mother. Tyrantrum is not very kind to possible threats.” Explained the Professor, chuckling at the last comment – he knew that one by experience. He also knew that Aerodactyl really loved certain Berries, and, if angered, they would try to decapitate their victims, but that was a story for another time.
”Still, I am very glad to see you have an interest in Fossil Pokemon – they are my life’s work, after all. I’d be glad to teach you anything you want to know about prehistoric Pokemon. After all, unless they are the two species I mentioned previous, I do have access to a live demonstration, and am always willing to aid the spreading of knowledge.”

Josh watched with anticipation as his gaze turned to the end of the battle. He'd noticed that two of the Fossil Pokemon were trying to take down just one. By the looks of it though, the one seemed to take control and the battle would end with the 1 in the 2 on 1 getting the upper hand and claiming victory over both his opponents. Josh smirked a bit as he watched this, impressed with it's skill. It was obvious that the Professor had raised it well.
At his words, he turned to the Professor and nodded a bit. "Aye" he said. "I was very surprised it didn't attack Amber and myself when my Pichu flushed it out. I... Just regret not catching it" he admitted, laughing a bit sheepishly as he scratched his head. "Tyrunt is quite possibly my favorite of any of the fossil Pokemon, I've been wanting to catch one since before I even came to Hoenn. Sadly, that was my first time seeing one in person, and... Obviously, I didn't do so well in what is most likely my only chance. I mean, what're the odds of finding a fossil one came from, or being lucky enough to find it again in the Safari Zone?"
"..... Maybe I wouldn't be lucky if I saw it again" he corrected. "It's mother would most likely have turned my Pichu and me into dino-meal very quickly" he said. "Pichu-Pi..." Lightning whimpered, not sure whether to feel guilty about spooking this Pokemon off, or to feel lucky that he wasn't Ty-Lunch!
"Anything you could teach me, I'd be happy to hear about" he said with a smile at his offer. "I'm not too picky. If something in particular catches my eye, I'll bring it up"
The Pokemon rested on the battlefield for some time as the Professor and Trainer spoke, letting the tiring, arduous energy of battle dissipate as necessary. Mandragora put away her roots and walked by each of them, talking softly in PokeSpeak and helping as necessary. It was a given fact that Mandragora was like a mother to all of the Pokemon of the Professor. She was the one to keep the discipline, the responsible one, the one who kept the youngers in line and the olders in shape. Unluckily for Mandargora, what the Professor's Pokemon considered their "aunt" was a deep contrast to the party's mother. If it weren't for Mandragora's soft but watchful eye, the results would be catastrophic.
"So the Tyrunt family is one of your favorites? A mighty one, albeit its focus on offense leaves it somewhat awkward in defense. Still, I understand your preference - I had a deep fascination for the Omanyte family not too long ago." Replied the Professor, taking a short look back at his Cradily fondly. A smiled formed in his sapphire eyes, crinkled, making him seem older than he was. "However, I can now easily denote that my favorite Fossil family is the Lileep family."
The four Fossil Pokemon, now recovered and rested, walked up to the Professor now, the three unevolved ones in looking up to him while the Cradily simply stood back at his side, rooting herself. With a swift hand, the Professor took out the three Poke Balls and returned the unevolved Fossils back to their Poke Balls for rest. Putting away the capsules, he returned his attention to the Trainer before him.
"Like I stated, Mr. Dragomir, I'll be glad to teach you anything you want. You're welcome to pass by my Laboratory if you ever want to visit - I have a room open, and I'm sure my Tyrunt would be happy to meet you."

"So the Tyrunt family is one of your favorites?" the Professor had asked. Josh smiled and nodded in response. "Always had a keen interest in them, since they were discovered" he admitted. "Always wanted to catch one myself and train it, and see how they grow and develop while in the care of a caring Trainer" he said, cracking his neck. "A mighty one, albeit its focus on offense leaves it somewhat awkward in defense. Still, I understand your preference - I had a deep fascination for the Omanyte family not too long ago." the Professor continued, leading to Josh nodding as he listened with curious ears, listening intently to gleam every little detail. "I think before Tyrunt, my fascination was with the Anorith family" he explained. "I still have an interest in Anorith, but I haven't seen one, in any of my days" he said, with a sigh. "Still regret that safari zone failure, but hopefully I'll have another chance soon"
"Lileep, huh?" he said in response to the Professor's new favorite. "Quite an interesting Pokemon. It reminds me of a prehistoric flower, with the way it's body and head is shaped. Is that what it's compared to in studies? Or is there a different comparison to it's body shape?"
The Professor would return the Pokemon to their Pokeballs before quipping with "Like I stated, Mr. Dragomir, I'll be glad to teach you anything you want. You're welcome to pass by my Laboratory if you ever want to visit - I have a room open, and I'm sure my Tyrunt would be happy to meet you". Josh would nod in return, but tilt his head curiously. "And where exactly is this lab?" he asked, with curiosity getting the better of him again. "I would very much like to visit, of course. I'll happily make a day when available to come down"
For a second, the Professor was a bit taken aback. Had he not seen the Anorith training along with the other Pokemon behind him? He guessed such was a possibility, but it seemed somewhat inefficient to the researcher. Perhaps he had been to focused on his conversation about the Tyrantrum family? It could also be that the Trainer had meant that he had yet to see an Anorith in the wild, which would make more sense - the Safari Zone was quite a difficult area to find Fossils in, something he knew by experience. After all, he was still missing Cranidos and Tirtouga.
The Professor chuckled somewhat, pushing his glasses back up as they had fallen a bit, almost to the bridge of his nose. "Actually, the Lileep and Cradily family are more resembling of barnacles or anemones, really. For example," He explained, turning to his Cradily, who simply swayed around softly, moving as if with an unheard rhythm "as one can see, the Cradily species does not have bound roots, but in fact has suction cups, with which they anchor to the sea floor or maybe even a large Pokemon. Depending onto what they anchor to, they then release roots, which behave like those of common-day plants." To demonstrate, Mandragora anchored her Suction Cups to the floor, rooting herself down, an unmovable object.
Softly patting Mandragora, with affection, he replied. " Symphonia Laboratories are at the base of Mt. Moon, nearby Pewter City of the Kanto Region. The road that leads to the labs is very well-marked - just walking a few ways out of Pewter towards the grey mountain should be enough to lead you to Symphonia Laboratories. I would take you myself, but my current traveling Pokemon are somewhat tired." Said the Professor, almost apologetic.

Alas, Josh had indeed meant seeing one in the wild. He had acknowledged that the man owned an Anorith with interest, even a bit of envy. But he studied these Pokemon on a regular basis, there should be no shock that he would have something like that. The man dedicated every moment of life to this sort of research, while Josh dedicated his time to catching all sorts of different types of Pokemon. Alas, catching an Anorith was something on his To-Do list for sure.
Josh listened to the lecture intently and with interest, obviously quite immersed in the subject. But for someone who grew up caring for Pokemon, that should be no surprise. He then watched the demonstration from the Pokemon he was discussing. "Ah, so I was wrong" he said with a laugh. "Thank you for the correction. The more you learn, the better, I suppose" he cracked with a small smile. "Pokemon are all mysterious in their own different ways" he added.
"Kanto, huh?" he said, tilting his head. "I have a friend from there, actually. But I haven't been to the region myself. If you like, I could travel there at another time and come see you then" he offered. "I wouldn't want to inconvenience you, obviously, when your pokemon are as tired as they are"
