It only seemed like yesterday that Josh Dragomir had set out on his journey to become a master of Pokemon. A Pokemon Journey, you could call it, I suppose. I mean, why else would you willingly trek from your comfortable homes to live in the wilderness and the occasional Pokemon Center just to train animals and make them fight? There's a certain thrill, an addiction there. It's impossible to describe, really.
Regardless, he needed a day to kick back and let the stress of training go. His Pokemon needed it too, he knew that. Of course, there were still ways to sneak in training in guise of fun.
But for now, let the fun begin!
As Josh finished setting up the beach towel, umbrella and everything else on the beach nearby Slateport City, he cracked his neck and admired the shining sun for a moment, putting on a pair of sunglasses to shield himself from it's rays. His attire was different from the norm, this time wearing a pair of red swim shorts and a white muscle shirt, plus a pair of blue sandals. The all-terrain gear he normally wore would only serve to burn him to a crisp in this kind of heat, he had decided.
Finally, he was finished that. He fished his Pokeballs from his belt and threw them into the air.
"Go, everyone!" he called as the Pokeballs opened, with Dragomir catching the balls on the rebound.
First out was a Torchic, strangely colored, but still as cheerful as any Torchic might be. "Torchic! Tor!" he let out eagerly as he scanned the area. Josh had named this one "Vulcan", named after it's relation to flames.
Then out was a Pichu, who didn't have a unique coloring, but wore a blue bandana on his neck that significantly resembled that of the one Josh wore in his usual gear, possible significance to a strong bond between the two. This was evidenced by the fact that the first thing the Pichu did was climb onto his trainer's shoulder, using him as a lookout point to scout the terrain. "Pichu-Pi!" he let out excitedly, to which Josh smiled and patted his head.
Out next was a Furfrou, the "Poodle Pokemon" didn't seem to have any unique elements to it's appearance beside it's well kept and shiny coat. The first thing he did was bring himself over to the umbrella and lay under it, obviously preferring the shade. Curling up, Cooper (Named after a Furfrou that a Trainer Josh once knew owned) decided that now was the best time to have a nap under the shade.
And finally, Josh's fourth and final Pokemon was a Pidgeotto. No unique elements here, but he seemed well taken care of. The Pidgeotto would spread his wings and fly around the area, taking in the scenery. "Don't fly out too far, Ace!" Josh called out to the bird of prey. The Pokemon would nod in response, letting out a "Pidgooooo!"
"Alright, guys!" he called out, getting the attention of his four party members. "You've trained hard, you've done a great job, and we've made some good progress. Today is your day. Of course, I'm still hoping to keep you guys in tip top shape, so enjoy yourselves, but remember at some point I think it might be good to take advantage of our beach time to help hone your skills a bit" he said, chuckling a bit. "But for now, just enjoy the weather, you guys have earned it!" he said, earning cheerful cries and caws from all four of his Pokemon, including Cooper who just.. Went right back to lounging around. Lightning would hop off Josh's shoulder and start chasing Vulcan around in the sand. Josh laughed at the playing, obviously amused at the sight.
He looked out at the beach. It seemed many trainers had their Pokemon out today. There were also swimmers, and beachgoers, loungers, sunbathers...
But one thing was for certain. It was a good day to relax in Slateport, for sure!

"YES OUR TEETH AND AMBITIONS ARE BARED! BE PREPARED!"
It was a nice sunny day in slateport and Yumi was more than read to enjoy it. She'd hosted some events here recently with some leftover publicity pay from her time at the tournament. Using that mega evolution in the first round had really flooded her with a tonne of hype, so advertisers, news reporters, and photographers were all over her. With the help of Ko-ken, her overly portective Sawk, she managed to milk a bit of money out of the ordeal and put it to some good use.~
Now though, she was using her time in Slateport to relax, carrying her towel under her arm and heading towards one of the Beach's changing rooms, the blue Sawk ever by her side as he followed behind, looking about the beach curiously and wondering what the other beach goers were doing. The last time he'd been here, they had been surrounded by trainers competing for a prize, so he was naturally a little more cautious on his second trip. "Now remember you, we're here to relax. Your still not in fighting form, just grab a room, slip out of your gi, and let yourself relax for a change, okay?" The Sawk glared at her for a moment. He never disobeyed Yumi, but at the same time, he always hated it when he couldn't train his body at will. Reluctantly he gave a nod, pulling out his own towel which he had been holding under his gi.
"Okay, now you just grab the other stall and I'll-" Her train of thought was halted, spotting the excited noivern wagging his tail behind Ko-ken, a Blaziken rolling their eyes as she held her towel under her arm, A scrafty who pulled his towel out of his pants, a Gyrados with no towel but a very excited grin, and a Chesnaught, already equipped with the surfboard he was gonna learn to ride today...or so he hoped.
Yumi took in the site of all her pokemon for a moment, before sighing deeply and shaking her head with a smile, heading into her changing room. "You guys are spoiled rotten."
Moments later, trainer and pokemon would emerge from the cubicals all ready for summer!~
Ko-ken came out first, along with Tequill, the Blaziken. Neither of them had to get ready much, Ko-ken just removed the top half of his gi, wrapping the arms of it around his waist so he had it close to hand, while the burning bird on the other hand simply slipped on a pair of Yumi's shades she had managed to fit on herself. For a fire type her eyes didn't handle the beach sun too well.
Rodrigez came out next, a giant noivern with the excited wagging tail of a dog, darting about the sand. His usual WW1 pilot helmet replaced with a pair of swimming goggles, slapped tightly around his head. He wanted to see how many fish he could catch, so he thought this would help him out.
Oscar and Gavin came out just before their trainer. Oscar just needed to tie the board to his ankle, but with the thick legs of a chesnaught that wasn't exactly the easiest thing to do. Gavin on the other hand put on a thick pair of goggles and a snorckle, the Scrafty not even waiting for the red headed trainer and darting off towards the sea, diving straight in.
Finally came Yumi herself, dressed in her usual beach gear of a fire patterned bikini top and a sarong that had a gap for her right leg. For a moment she just took herself in, loving how she looked in her swimwear, actually thinking she dressed rather well for it. "Heh, alright, lets see what fun we can have then.~ Rodrigez, Ken, you guys are staying with me for now okay? The rest of you have fun." The pokemon nodded and headed off, Ko-ken following behind and Rigez curling around his trainer's legs before following behind, snickering softly as he was just elated to be here.
Walking around and enjoying the beach air, she came accross the pleasant sight of some pokemon playing, chasing eachother around. Her eyes spotted the nearby trainer, sauntering over and crossing her arms under her chest, nudging him with her elbow to get his attention. "Those cute little pokemon yours?~" Ko-ken was quick to take a seat in the sand, while the noivern spotted the pokemon chasing eachother and rushed to join in, kicking sand everywhere.

Another Trainer had made her way over to him, with a Sawk and Noivern at her side. Josh had been overseeing his Pokemon to make sure nobody got hurt, though eyed the woman and smiled faintly.
"Aye, they are" he replied chuckling a bit as he looked over at the Noivern joining his Pichu and Torchic. The two seemed quite fine with meeting a new friend, and adjusted quickly to the new appearance, as the Pichu tagged the Noivern with a light tap on the shoulder, before both Lightning and Vulcan took off at a run. It seems they were playing tag after all!
"Your Noivern seems quite energetic around other Pokemon" Josh commented as he watched this circus of Pokemon playing, before looking back at Yumi and the Sawk. "Your Sawk seems quite attached to you. Have you been together long?" he asked with a friendly smile. "Hasn't left your side since you came over here"

"YES OUR TEETH AND AMBITIONS ARE BARED! BE PREPARED!"
Yumi watched as Rodrigez wagged his tail back and forth rapidly as he joined the other pokemon, blinking a little in confusion as one of them bopped his shoulder, before quickly getting the gist of the game, scrambling for some friction on the sand below him before darting off after them, kicking sand everywhere despite his ability to fly towards them instead, bring a soft giggle from the red head as she looked over to the trainer beside her.
"Oh yeah, he's a lively one. Bit of a little hero too, wont fly anywhere without wearing his special goggles so he feels like a fighter pilot." She let out another warm chuckle at the memory of the first time he got them, before turning her eyes to Ko-ken with the qustion. The blue pokemon Glared up at Josh, being ever protective around Yumi, especially when she talked to guys. If only he understood that wasn't the only way she swung, he'd scare off all Yumi's friends. "Oh, I've know him for 8 years. He was my first pokemon too.~ Didn't even need to be given him he just...sorta helped me out one day...~" She gave a gentle smile at the fond memory of a strong Sawk standing between her and some houndour in the alley ways of castelia.
Snapping from her memory, she lifted her head to Josh' pokemon, crossing her arms under her chest and nodding towards them. "How about you? Your pokemon seem pretty young. Just starting out?"

Josh couldn't help but laugh at the Noivern's reaction to being tagged, and kicking sand everywhere as he ran after the Pichu and Torchic. They seemed to realize that the big bat would likely catch up soon, and bolted down the beach.
"Make sure you don't get out too far, you two!" Josh called out. "You might not be able to find your way back!"
It was obvious he cared deeply about his Pokemon, despite his amusement in terms of their shenanigans. And it was true, he didn't know what he would do if something were to happen to his little guys. Any of them.
He chuckled at Yumi's response. "He sure seems like a lively one" he agreed. "Seems kind of like my Pichu, won't go anywhere without that little blue bandana on his neck" he said, looking over at the Pichu. "It actually used to be mine when I was a kid. I don't know if Lightning senses that, but he won't go anywhere without it" he said, chuckling warmly.
He looked over at the Sawk and acknowledged it's just being protective without a word, and simply smiled at her words. "You'll have to tell me the story sometime" he said warmly.
At her question, he smiled faintly. "Well... Yes and no" he admitted scratching his head. "I wasn't allowed to go on a Pokemon Journey as a kid. We used to live in a... Much more dangerous area then this, one that wasn't fit for someone my age to travel. We had a lot of... Problems going on there, and I was basically made to sit on the sidelines and get a real job while others fought these problems. But I'd been around Pokemon my entire life, my parents were Trainers, and are breeders now. I was bound to get my own Pokemon eventually" he said, smirking. "Destiny seemed to think so too, because I ended up on a different kind of journey at my old home. After things... Got a bit too bad there, we moved to Hoenn, and I'd proven capable of being able to take care of Pokemon in extreme conditions, so I had my families blessing to start a journey here. I'm just starting that one, obviously. But each Pokemon here has a story"
He pointed to the Torchic, running as fast as his little chicken legs could carry him. "I got him from a local Professor, he was my first Pokemon" he said. "He's a lot stronger then he looks, actually. He has the most experience out of anyone on my team, though he doesn't always show it without motivation" he added. "Shouldn't be too long now before he becomes a Combusken, hopefully a bit more training and he'll be set"
He looked over at the Pichu then, who seemed to be having an easier time running on all fours, but still seemed to be enjoying himself. As Josh had said, he had a little blue bandana on his neck, that looked like it'd seen some prior use but was still kept clean even to this day. "That little guy there, I actually ended up saving his life. I found him cold and freezing, and he was on death's door, looked to only be a few weeks old. I brought him home and nursed him back to health, and he hasn't left my side since" he said, smiling faintly at the memories.
He looked over at the Furfrou, relaxing under the shade. "That one there was abandoned by his trainer. For some reason or other, I found him trying to live on his own in the wild, and... Well,I don't know if tamed Furfrou remember how to, admittedly, after seeing how badly he struggled" he said, sighing. "Someone at the local Pokemon Center recognized the collar he had on at the time. Said the Trainer didn't have time for weak Pokemon, and wasn't surprised at all about me finding him out in the wild. So I took him in myself"
He looked up at the Pidgeotto and smirked a bit as it flew around the area, mingling with other flying types that passed it. "That one there's called Ace. I saw him get taken down by a large flying Pokemon, and he injured his wing. I spent weeks nursing him back to health, and he just didn't want to leave me after that.

"YES OUR TEETH AND AMBITIONS ARE BARED! BE PREPARED!"
Yumi chuckled softly as Rodrigez caught up with the Pichu, jumping and catching the wind with his wings in an accidental glide, tumbling with the electric type in his arms, landing and pinning him down, tapping the smaller pokemon's nose, before rushing off quickly, playing around like a giant puppy. Yumi wondered if Rigez would ever grow up, god she hoped not.
Listening to Josh's tail she couldn't help but wonder where exactly he must be from, but at the same time, he seemed to be purposely avoiding giving it a name, so she found it rude to just come out and ask. Afterall, there were small parts of her past she didn't want people to know either. Heck, as far as some people knew, she was abandoned on the streets, not a runaway from her orphanage. Instead, she turned her attention to each of the trainer's pokemon as they were introduced, smiling at each little point in Josh' favor as he described how each of them were taken into his care.
"Heh, sadly, par Ko-ken my stories with these guys aint as exciting. I mean, Ko-ken himself, mister grumpy boots as you see him now, he's always been the same, just wanting to protect me, though I've never understood why. Heck until recently, he never even had a pokeball, just walked by my side for 8 years."
Yumi pointed over to the blaziken by the water's edge, who was now kicking at the air, practicing her motions. "Tequill over there I caught at the safari zones, though...I never managed to figure out what gender he is. Though seeing as referring to him as male is the only thing not to insult him, i go with that." In truth, Tequill was a female blaziken, something only Gavin the scrafty and Ko-ken knew, but she preferred to keep it hidden.
Next Yumi gestured to rodrigez, who was now fleeing from the Pichu. "You already know rodri here, safari zone all the same. He used to be a bit of a chicken, but he's getting more used to battling."
Over in the water was Gavin the Scrafty and Oscar, each swimming out into deeper waters for their own reasons. "The scrafty has been with me for six years but he still acts like a kid. He has a thing for digging tunnels, so I got him a special shovel for whenever he uses dig. Also helps when he wacks other pokemon over the head with it. The chesnaught I had bred specifically for defensive purposes. Any pokemon going against him is gonna meet a brick wall!"
Over to the gyrados, Yumi reached her final pokemon. "And Norris...he actually has a different story." She lowered her hand, chuckling nervously. "I found him with something stuck in his gills as a magikarp...apparently nurse joy says it did permanent damage due to not getting enough oxygen, so he isnt too right in the head."

"Pi-Pi-Pi-Pi!" Lightning let out in panic as it went flying in the arms of the Noivern with the wind. Aw, it'd caught him!
"Pi-Chu!" Lightning responded after the tag as he got up. "Tor-Tor!" Vulcan let out as he ran after the Noivern. No way was he going to get tagged! The Pichu would cheerfully give chase after them.
Josh laughed a bit as he watched this, then listened to Yumi's explanations for each of her Pokemon.
"Huh..." he said at the last one, the Gyarados. "The poor thing. Does it have any problem with daily life, or with battling?" he inquired curiously. He hoped the poor thing was alright.
"I'm just happy none of my Pokemon have problems like that. I don't know what I'd be able to do with myself if I let one of them get hurt permanently" he admitted, scratching his head. "I try to protect them as much as I can, with my life if I have to". Of course, he knew it wasn't Yumi's fault, she had found him that way after all. He just hoped the Gyarados didn't have too much difficulty.
"I remember my dad had a blind Psyduck at one point. The poor thing didn't know which way to go, and he constantly had to have someone watching it or it might wander off on accident. The stress related to the blindness tends to cause it's headaches to rise up as well, so that was rather... Dangerous, considering he sometimes lashed out at everything with confusion, not knowing what the things around it were. I don't know what happened to it, but I assume dad took it with him to the new breeding center when we moved to Hoenn" he said. "I know he loved that Psyduck to death though, dealing with those difficulties only seemed to make that bond stronger"

"YES OUR TEETH AND AMBITIONS ARE BARED! BE PREPARED!"
"Oh he's fine.~" Yumi smiled sweetly at Josh, finding it quite nice of him to care about the gyrados' wellbeing like that. She watched for a moment as Rodrigez leaped over a sunbathing couple, spraying sand over them and quickly stepping forward, calling out to her noivern. "HEY! what did I tell you about running over people like that!" Rodrigez looked back, clearly apologetic, but realized the Pichu was catching up, and couldn't stay sorry for long, as he quickly began to run away again.
With a quiet sigh she stepped back, lowering her head into her hand and her red hair falling through her fingers. "I swear some of these guys will never grow up..." Slowly bringing her head back up she spotted Norris, playing in the ocean with a goof grin on what should be a draconic maw that would strike fear into the hearts of enemies. "Speaking of not growing up...Norris is honestly fine. He's a litle slow, not the best fighter, but then again that's not why I keep him around. If you've ever read of mice and men, think a slightly smarter version of Lenny...or the dum guy from every smart, short, mafia guy and thick, brawny mafia guy duo." She gave a light chuckle, as if trying to lighten to mood a little. As sweet as it was for Josh to worry, Yumi felt a little like it had darkened the mood, especially since that tale of the blind psyduck. "Honestly, Norris here is fine. Funnily enough, I actually have a Golduck that looks out for him."

He smiled a bit. That was just how he was, really. He cared about all Pokemon, big or small, short or tall, pink or green, it didn't matter. When one's health was in question, he tended to be concerned, even if it was a giant and ferocious Gyarados. But he couldn't help but chuckle at the Noivern's antics as Lightning tried to leap onto the Noivern, only to miss and fall flat on his face in the sand. "Piiiiiiii...." he murmured with his face muffled under the sand. He would get up though, and shake it out with a "Pi pi pi!" before dashing off again. "Pi-Chu!". "Tor, Tor!" Vulcan would let out, still running after the Noivern as fast as his little chicken legs could carry him. Wait for me, don't let the Pichu catch me! That seemed to be what went through the oversized chicken's mind as he ran like hell.
Josh laughed a bit at Yumi's words when she stopped watching her Noivern. "Hey, it's part of his charm" he comforted with a chuckle. "It's what makes your Noivern so loveable". He smirked a bit when she spoke of her Gyarados.
Of course, he hadn't meant to darken the mood with the Psyduck story. Actually, he didn't see it as a tragedy at all. He knew that his father loved that Psyduck, and the trials that they went through together only made their bond stronger. But ah, nobody had a stronger bond with his father then his Raichu. Josh remembered that old mouse quite fondly. If you wanted to talk about tragedies though... Raichu was the place to go.
Regardless, he smiled a bit at her last words. "Really now?" he asked at her remark about the Golduck. "Kind of funny, but it's good he's got a friend to make sure he doesn't hurt himself" he said. "We could all use someone like that" he added, laughing.
