APPEARANCE
Police work is not a walk in the park in the slightest, and neither is having to take over raising his younger sister and paying off the other’s hospital bills, so in order to handle the stress of the situation, Engel had taken up a habit of smoking. Every chance he gets, when it isn’t rude, not allowed, or unprofessional, he is almost always seen with a cigarette between his lips. While this does affect his breathing when running for certain stretches, Engel has always been one to endure and persevere over his troubles. He is notably fit, sporting a muscular build courtesy of and for his job.
However, despite how much time he is outside and wandering about, Engel struggles to get a proper tan thanks to what may be albinism, though he isn’t very sure. Pale with silver hair, he is clearly far too young to have been going gray already, but he sports a full head of silver hair. His silver hair hangs to his shoulders and most of the time, it is either left to just freely hang, or pulled back into a tight tiny pony tail. When he feels creative, or stylish, he may sport numerous hair clips and play with his hair some, but that’s only for rare occasions.
The main feature that makes Engel hesitate from using albinism as the term to explain his odd paleness is the fact he has a pair of beautiful teal eyes much like his mother’s. His vision isn’t exactly the best, so said eyes require a set of contacts he is almost always wearing. However, when he isn’t out and about, or just kicking back in the office, Engel also has a pair of black framed glasses that he likes to wear instead. His glasses kind of clash with his usual punk or grunge like style of clothing that he wears, not that he cares. Engel’s wardrobe is old, out of style, and well worn, but he refuses to go out and buy new clothes for himself until it becomes necessary in the sense that his clothes are falling apart. Which they almost are.

PERSONALITY
The first meeting with Engel can leave people with the impression that he is a calm, cool, and collected individual. Carrying himself with an air of confidence, just watching him would certainly leave the impression in someone’s mind that he knows what he is doing. Ever since his middle school and high school days, Engel has always been seen as one of those perfect popular guys. Good at his job, extremely intelligent, super fit, gets along with his superiors, seems to be on good terms with most of the people he meets, he just gives off an air of perfection, but that’s just what it looks like. For you see, Engel is just good at playing the role that life has shoved him into.
Engel has been forced to play the role of a caretaker and the bacon-bringer for his household. He doesn’t have the luxury of being able to sit back and simply declaring that he just doesn’t give a fuck. He can’t afford to run his mouth or be an asshole at the risk of losing his job, pissing off his co-workers, etc. Letting himself get fat and falter at doing his job the best he can is absolutely out of the question. His air of ‘perfection’ is simply a result of being unable to freely express himself. He can’t afford to be a ‘flawed’ person when he has two lives depending on him.
This results in a very stressful life style for Engel which is mostly kept in check by his smoking addiction. He is almost always seen with a cigarette in his mouth courtesy of the life he leads, only keeping a cigarette out of his mouth during times when it’d be rude, unprofessional, or just not allowed in the specified area. Should he be unable to smoke for a long period of time, he can be seen being a bit grumpier and having a shorter temper. He’s usually fairly patient and controlled, but when on withdrawal, he is a bit moodier and more likely to snap at people.
Ticking him off can reveal a rather merciless side of Engel that does not simply take any kind of idiocy sent his way. Under his illusion of perfection, Engel is jaded and full of snarky commentary just waiting to slip. When it does, he can be feisty and sarcastic, only holding his tongue when necessary. Without the mental filter he usually has, he has no issue with pointing out flaws and stupidity that he notices in those around him. With his extreme intelligence, Engel is a man of logic and will use the hell out of it to try and win arguments, debates, and so on tossed his way. The only other time his sass leaks out is when playfully bantering with criminals he catches in his line of work.
Now, when Engel is caught off guard, that when his true colors begin to truly show themselves. After having to shut his true self down for this cold external persona he has, Engel has forgotten how to really interact with people on a more so personal level. He can maintain small talk, no doubt, but when with friends and people that expect to get closer to him, Engel suddenly reveals a timid, anxious, and awkward side of himself. He stumbles over his words and is likely to spit out anything just to fill in an awkward silence. The way he presents himself can make it extremely easy to read him at that point. You’ll know when he is uncomfortable and you’ll know when he’s finally relaxed. When Engel lets his guard down, he really is an open book to those around him.
Being an open book is something this hardworking young man prides himself in. He tries to avoid having secrets and will be honest for the most part when dealing with people. If asked about his past, he feels the need to stress that it’s a depressing tale before he will explain the tragic tale of woe that is Engel Werner and his family’s downfall. The story no longer bothers him as much as it used to, his line of work requires him to deal with a lot of things that would depress any person. Required therapy sessions to make sure he keeps himself together and just the thought of his sisters needing him help Engel keep himself together. He works very hard for those around him, willing to go the extra mile for people that depend on him.

HISTORY
Engel Werner came from rather simple beginnings, the son of Micheal and Angelica Werner. His father was a business man, almost always busy with a very well paying job to take care of Engel and his mother, which was a simple task at the time. Angelica opted to stay home with her son, raising him with the ‘boys will be boys’ kind of mentality that resulted in Engel becoming much like a bully in his younger days. He picked on other children and seemed to have a niche for being able to get his way when it came to playing with other children. He was set for being a rather spoiled boy, especially when it became clear just how remarkably intelligent he was. It seemed like he would always get his way and prove undoubtedly troublesome when he got older, but life decided to take a few turns for Engel, even at his young age.
It all would start with his parents quietly bickering about money and his mother being upset with his father’s numerous business trips. While they tried to keep things behind closed doors, Engel would usually hear the occasional shout match between the two. Angelica and Micheal clearly had marital problems, but both hoped that would be solved with the happy announcement that Angelica was pregnant. A new baby in their lives may help rekindle the fire and bring them closer together once more, but however things were not going to go as hoped. Unlike Angelica’s previous pregnancy with Engel, she went through harsher mood swings, and clear signs of depression with this pregnancy. There were a few times Engel would have to wake her up to get help with getting ready for school and get her moving, again. It was a long pregnancy, but of course the expected baby would come…
But she didn’t come alone.
Angelica would give birth to a beautiful set of twins, Sera and Fina, as they had originally planned for the name Seraphim for a daughter. While Micheal was bubbling with joy and excitement at the arrival of his precious daughters, it was a whole other story for Angelica. The stress and depression had finally gotten to her, and during her stay in the hospital, it quickly became apparent just how strongly it got to her. After nearly harming both of the twin girls and then beginning to outright declare that the babies weren’t even her own, doctors would soon come to the conclusion that Angelica had formed a severe case of Postpartum Psychosis. She would remain in the hospital to receive therapy, but the babies would go home in the care of Micheal and Engel, along with a kind neighbor that would take over the job of babysitting the girls and Engel.
As time would go on, Angelica’s condition wasn’t improving at all. She began even acting violent towards Micheal and would only demonstrate any kind of kindness towards Engel. She would continue to attempt to spoil the boy, Engel gradually growing uncomfortable around his own mother with how desperate she would get to please him. Her smiles felt false and forced, like she was just playing a role of sorts. Over time, Engel would visit her less and less and Micheal would terminate their marriage. Angelica’s mother’s family would take over caring for her but would end up essentially shutting out Werner’s family in the process. At that point, Engel would no longer be allowed to visit his mother, not that he minded terribly. He would continue growing as if nothing happened, though there were a few changes in the household.
Since it was no longer his mother, but an old neighbor now taking care of him and his sisters, this nanny was much more strict with the young Engel. He was not allowed to start fights and did not have the excuse of ‘just being a boy’ to get away with teasing and making fun of others in some form of play. However, even with a stricter caretaker, it didn’t stop his antics entirely. As his sisters would grow, they’d become targets of his bullying as well. He was an arrogant child, but with how smart he was, along with his athletic abilities, it was all a matter of time before he figured out how to play the system. Engel got adjusted to his stricter caretaker and eventually used what he learned from getting along with her on his teachers to be able to become what some may call a ‘teacher’s pet’. However, Engel also blended well into what may have been stereotyped as the ‘popular crowd’. From the outside view, he was the perfect jerk.
However, during this time, Engel was also quite under a bit of pressure from the overall position he managed to put himself in. He had to balance schoolwork, sports, and good ties with his friends to avoid going below the bar he had set for himself. Choosing to become this seemingly perfect person had set Engel up for a rather stressful life and he often times took this out on his younger sisters by teasing and picking on them. He was never violent, but he wasn’t exactly nice. He was mostly kept in check by their neighbor caretaker that had obviously become their nanny by this point. Even as Engel would enter the double digits and become a pre-teen, she would stay around, pretty much a relative with how much she helped out around the house. With his growing age and independence, her focus would shift more towards caring for the twins and Engel was left to pretty much do as he pleased once more.
Life carried on like this for a while and for the most part, it worked. Engel was becoming an independent system working genius, and even though he was still young, his potential for greatness exceeded most standards for boys his age. There was a brief time of experimenting with Pokemon, and that would be when Engel was given Xun the Blitzle. While he was a rather good trainer, it wouldn’t truly click with him as a person and became more of a side project rather than a life goal. Xun was more so a pet for him to hang out with and take care of while balancing the hundred other things a young – now teenaged – Engel had to handle. It wasn’t easy, but he had the flow down the best he could at his age.
However, the growing obvious trouble in the Orre region would suddenly make itself extremely apparent to the Werner family. At the age of fifteen-years-old, during one of Engel’s baseball games, a Cipher terrorist attack would suddenly spread from the neighboring building and explode into the baseball field next door. It was chaotic and it happened so fast that Engel, who was out on Second Base at the time didn’t even know what had happened until the smoke began to settle. The bleachers that the spectators, including his father and sisters, had been sitting on were crushed and it looked like a battlefield. As most of those able to ran or rushed to help those who couldn’t, Engel would join the latter group as he rushed to the bleachers to desperately try and find his family. However, what he would find in the mess would be nothing short of a tragic nightmare.
His father was dead, Fina wasn’t waking up, and Sera was awake and alive, but injured. After being unable to save Micheal, and unable to get Fina moving, he rushed to save the only person in the world he seemed to have left at this point. Engel tended to her wound the best he could, and flat out refused to leave her side from that point onwards. Riding the ambulance with her, staying in her hospital room and hovering outside the surgery room’s doors, he was keeping his eyes on her like a hawk during the whole ordeal. It would be after Sera came out of surgery that Engel would be told, once more, his father was undoubtedly dead and Fina had become comatose, most likely because of the nasty blow to her head. The town for the time being had built up money to ensure everyone involved in the accident would receive payment, and even Engel’s nanny would chip in to pay for the bills, meaning Fina could remain on life support… For now.
During the period of time in the hospital with Sera, Engel was no longer the arrogant jackass he usually was. He approached her in kind, being gentle, soft spoken and nearly mute. He’d hold her when she cried and became the brother he was supposed to be but never had been before. When Sera was asleep, he found himself breaking down in the bathroom connected to her room, mourning everything he’d lost so suddenly. After one break down, he would venture back out to see even Sera’s face was covered in tears, but she had clearly fallen asleep. It’d be then that he promised that the moment Fina woke up, he would take both of them to the amazing amusement park in Unova. He’d buy them ice cream and toys and dress up clothes. For now though, he promised that he’d be a better brother and take care of the two, no matter what it took.
With this promise in mind, when social workers would approach to try and place the siblings in foster care, Engel wasn’t having it. Packing up everything in their house that he could, Engel would sell their family home and move him and Sera to a much cheaper two bedroom apartment. He dropped out of school despite the desperate pleas of his teachers and friends, and would dedicate all of his time to doing whatever work he could to get the money needed for taking care of Sera and also paying for Fina’s Life Support. It was touch and go with Fina, but ongoing donations and help from the community would ensure Fina remained alive in the vain attempt that she would one day wake up from her coma. His father’s life insurance also played a major role in setting up this new life style for the duo. The town as a whole would offer whatever help they could to make sure the siblings were taken care of and Engel was quick to take whatever he could get. He was so desperate, he gave up everything he could to make sure that Sera wasn’t taken from him after the promise he had made to her.
Shortly after Engel took up the role of Sera’s caretaker, he would soon be approached with the idea of joining Interpol to help with the process of getting Cipher out of Orre’s hair. With all of his records prior to dropping out just shining with potential, Interpol weren’t going to simply let him slip away into nothingness because of this incident when he could work in their favor. However the choice to join or not was entirely up to Engel… Not hesitating for a moment to accept the offer, the Werner’s sibling’s nanny would temporarily help out with paying the bills as Engel would undergo the necessary training to become an International Police Officer. During his time training, Xun would evolve and Engel would take up the habit of smoking to deal with his obvious stressful life. When his training was complete, he started out handling small time duties for the most part at first, a simple lower ranking officer that was checking out the scenes for activity before he’d call in the big guns. It wouldn’t take long for the hardworking and ever determined Engel to blaze his way through the jobs to become a much higher ranking officer, however.
His work would eventually lead to Engel travelling frequently in and out of Orre after Cipher was no longer much of a pressing issue. With the League established there as well, criminal activity began to drop even more so. Engel’s job was steady, but the bills are still a struggle to pay, and by some miracle, Engel has managed to continue to keep everything in check and in control. As time has gone on though, another stressful factor adds onto Engel’s life is the pressure from his peers that he is not getting any younger. It was getting closer to the time when most of his peers were settling down and starting their families, and Engel was often inquired about where his girlfriend was, where was the waifu that made those great adorable bentos he always had, (although those were made by his sister as he explained repeatedly while telling them no you can’t have it) and when was he going to get married. However, it wouldn’t be until these teasing and pressures appeared that Engel would finally realize that he never looked at women in that way, but that his eyes had always drifted towards men…
But if he married someone rich, almost all his troubles would go away, right?
