”Phew. Finally back from that tournament. It’s really too bad that I only got to the semi-finals. I thought I was better than that.”
Zernebog stared out across the vast sea of green with a contemplative gleam in his eyes, his mouth set in a frown and his arms crossed. ”Clearly I haven’t trained enough. I let myself become obsessed with the potential power that the Mega Stones could give me.”
He smiled thinly. ”Power that I didn’t even bother to use in the tournament to beat Amber out of pride. How pathetic. ”
He raised his gauntleted hand to his face. The Key Stone glowed softly in the sunlight. ”I knew I should have gone with Yumi’s example and gone all out.” He then palmed his face with the same hand he was looking at. ”Next time, I’ll be better. Or else, how could I face that red creature without losing again….”
But after he rested. He couldn’t think with all of the violence roaring in his veins, begging to be let out to vent his frustrations at losing. He had never taken well to losing after all, and this reminder that he wasn’t strong enough yet hit him hard. However, he needed a clear mind because he was never at his best when angry so he just needed some rest.

Zernebog was sitting down by a tree in a meadow, relishing the cool summer breeze that caressed his sun-kissed skin. Beside him was Gaia, his new Larvitar. However, unlike him she seemed to be looking for a fight instead of just relaxing.
”You should chill out and rest.” Zernebog raised an amused eyebrow at the sharp glare that Gaia was giving him. ”I know I promised you a lot of battles, but right now you should just relax. They’ll come later, trust me.”
“Fletch!”
Zernebog looked up to see some sort of adorable red orange and light blue bird diving towards Gaia. ”Or you know, it could come to us right now.” He deadpanned as he watched the Larvitar’s eyes lit up in malicious glee.
”Rock Slide.” Since there was still quite the distance between the two and the weird bird was nice enough to announce its presence with a shout, Gaia had more than enough time to summon large rocks and debris from the ground in order to block the bird’s attack.
Zernebog nodded at the sight of it being blocked. ”Follow it up and trap it with another Rock Slide.”
Still trusting her new trainer’s judgment, Gaia summoned another stream of large rocks and debris and tried to slam them into the Fletchling, only for it to do the same and block it with a flap of its wings, managing to beat her to it.
”Huh, a bird that knows either Rock Slide, Mirror Move, or even Me First. Interesting.” Zernebog commented as he watched the block. ”Let’s try another approach. Screech and Sandstorm.”
Gaia screeched and summoned turbulent winds of sand from out of nowhere, which the Fletchling tried to copy with a flap of its wings again. It failed and subsequently got buffeted by the sandstorm, which made it give out a weak cry.
Zernebog became a little more interested. ”Hm… from the look on its face, it failed. Must be Me First.” He remarked as he carried on with the commentary like there was nothing wrong with the situation at all.
The bird looked at him strangely as it tried to attack the Larvitar head-again, only for Zernebog to say something else. ”Rock Polish.”
Gaia became shinier as she easily slipped past the diving bird. She then took initiative and attacked with another stream of large rocks and dirt, this time by using the debris that was already made from the earlier confrontations. The bird tried to block it, but this time it was too slow and was hit full force by the barrage of rocks, sending it straight into the tree.
Gaia screeched victoriously at the sight, also weakening the bird even more in the process. She wanted to win this and it seemed like listening to her trainer was working so she kept at it.
”Newbie then.” Zernebog in turn was shaking his head at the sight. ”Finish it off by chipping away at it. The Rock Slide would have done a huge number on it by now.”
Indeed, the bird looked like it was on its last legs after that one massive hit. Having its weakness being taken advantage off after a screech like that was very painful for something like it. Gaia took advantage of it by going in to chip away at it, only for it to dodge with an Agility and then try to attack her again with another dive.
”Rock Polish and Rock Slide. Multitask!” Zernebog shouted.
Gaia became even shinier as she slipped past the bird while waving her arm. As the creature was turning around, another stream of rocks hit it right in the face, sending it into the tree and driving it straight into unconsciousness.
Zernebog simply nodded at Gaia before taking out a pokeball and tossing it over at the strange bird. He had a good feeling about that one.

Zernebog watched as the pokeball flashed white and was teleported to storage before turning towards Gaia. ”Now, are you ready to take a little nap with me or are you still raring to go and fight?”
Gaia simply gave him a malicious grin, causing him to frown. ”Did you take lessons from Erebus or Ares while I wasn’t looking, because that sort of looks like their grins? Just a bit though.”
Zernebog would never know the answer to that question because some sort of strange gray and brown rabbit suddenly tackled Gaia’s side, causing her to screech angrily and the rabbit’s ears to flatten as much as possible. It then tried to tackle Gaia again, only to get the same treatment followed by a huge amount of rock and debris to the face.
The rabbit was sent flying towards another tree with a powerful thud. Its body fell along with the debris as Gaia’s control was relinquished over it a moment later. If one listened and looked closely, one could hear the rabbit groaning in pain while its ears were starting to bleed blood due to being in such close proximity to a screeching Larvitar. Even if its ears weren’t very sensitive, that still hurt a lot.
”I wonder what it is about this town that just likes proving me wrong….” Zernebog grumbled as he watched the rather one-sided fight. ”Gaia, stop playing with the Buneary-like thing and break it to pieces.”
Gaia whooped and sent another stream of rocks which the rabbit countered by shooting mud at it in order to bog it down and stop it in mid-air. Then it tried to tackle Gaia again, only to be dodged by the Larvitar getting shinier as she slipped past it.
In irritation, it then decided to close the distance and then try to flail its ears and arms around to try and hit Gaia for a significant amount of damage, only to be dodged again with the Larvitar getting shinier and then being hit by a deluge of rocks from underneath it, tossing it up in the air. However, it didn’t stay up in the air for long because it was quickly swatted down to the ground by the same stream of debris, finally knocking it out in the process.
Zernebog nodded. ”Great job, Gaia.” He walked towards the unconscious bunny and looked at it with a curious frown. ”More weird new things. Might as well catch it since it might be valuable or something.”
With that, he tossed a pokeball at its prone form and watched as it was absorbed into the pokeball….

Zernebog had just managed to nod off this time when he was suddenly startled awake by a chorus of shouts.
“Bidoof!”
“Bibarel!”
Needless to say, Zernebog was pissed as he shook the cobwebs and that groggy feeling out of his head.
”Gaia.” Zernebog turned his gold eyes towards the aforementioned Larvitar for a second before giving the four glaring pokemon an icy gaze and a smile that could only be described as chilling. ”Go play with the Bidoof. Break as many bones as you want.”
Gaia promptly screeched at one of the Bidoof and summoned a storm of violent winds teeming with abrasive sands in an explosion of power. She then slammed into the other one with a Chip Away, pushing them both away further so that she could have her wicked way with them unopposed while working on the other two as well.
Zernebog grinned cheekily as he tumbled away to avoid the stream of water that one of the Bibarels shot in retaliation for indirectly causing the sandstorm that his Larvitar summoned. He then sprung up, took a random pokeball from his belt, and then chucked it into the air and watched as white light burst out of it to release the pokemon.
His grin faltered a bit when he saw the purple slime ball blinking at the two large Bibarels with his green eyes as he stood atop a small puddle and grimacing at the sandstorm around them.
Goomy. Definitely not the one he was hoping for, but he can work with this. If he could work with a Magikarp, he can work with anything.
Or at least that was what he was telling himself. ”Dion! Dragon Pulse!” He commanded to the young Goomy.
Dionysus spat out a ball of concussive force that was deceptively fast, catching one of the Bibarels off-guard and hitting it right in the face. The other Bibarel though was able to think a little faster and fire off a Water Gun at the Goomy while he was distracted.
In irritation, the Goomy retaliated by summoning a wave of Muddy Water that swamped both of his opponents and pushed them away from it while soaking the entire area in muddy, swampy water. In response, both of them then rolled into balls and tried to assault him from two sides like two giant steamrollers.
”Sink in! Shark mode!”
Dionysus turned his body into water and sank into the water he had made, effectively removing himself from the area and therefore the point of impact. The Bibarels couldn’t control themselves, forcing themselves to collide with each other and bounce back from each other in a bone-jarring impact.
Dionysus then emerged from the murky waters and blasted the second Bibarel with a ball of concussive force while it was careening away, sending it even further away. The first Bibarel then tried to roll over to where the sound came from, only to be hit by a concussive wave of force as well before the Goomy sank in the water, lurking like a Sharpedo.
Confident that Dionysus could handle himself for the moment, Zernebog turned his attention to the other battle that was happening in the grasslands. That second screech he had heard was rather alarming after all.
He was just in time to see a large pile of dirt, rocks, and other debris in front of Gaia. Knowing what he did about his Larvitar, he couldn’t help but think back to the few times he had witnessed unlucky travelers get swallowed by landslides near the place he lived. Unlike all of those times though, his urge to help what was probably buried inside was less than zero.
It took a few more moments before two small brown forms emerged from the debris. Even from this distance, he could see why it took them so long. Both of their bodies were littered with cuts and lacerations that oozed blood if they weren’t being covered with sand. Their movements were also shaky as they pulled themselves out of the debris.
So what was Gaia doing while they were pulling themselves out of the rocks? Raising up even more debris into the air to smash into them once they were out, which was exactly once she did once both of them were fully out of the previous Rock Slide. They were both swept away by the equivalent of three Rock Slides, sending them straight into unconsciousness with a lot of pain from the previous hits, the current hits, and sandstorm damage.
”Great job, Gaia!” Zernebog shouted over the roar of the sandstorm.
Zernebog then turned towards the Goomy and was surprised at what he saw.
While Zernebog was busy watching Gaia, Dionysus was busy imitating the most famous Sharpedo of all time – Jaws. The two Bibarel had been hitting nothing but air after the Goomy sank into the water slowly soaking into the soil. As such, they untucked themselves from their ball form and began looking their missing target.
Suddenly, the Goomy reformed from behind one of the Bibarels and shot at its leg with a concussive ball of force twice before sinking into the water again. The Bibarel screamed and staggered as it clutched at its leg in pain, causing the other one to look at it from where it was.
Dionysus took advantage of that by emerging from the water and extending a gooey antenna forward to use Poison Tail on the creature before blasting it with a Dragon Pulse again.
Angry, the Bibarel tried to chomp down on Dionysus, only for it to dissolve into the water again before he managed to do so. Both Bibarels wondered where the Goomy went off to while sustaining more damage from the Sandstorm, forcing them to grumble and glare at Zernebog again. Since they couldn’t find the small purple slime ball, they decided to attack the originator instead.
That was the chance that Dionysus was waiting for.
As the two were preparing to attack Zernebog, the Goomy emerged from the water again and swamped them both with Muddy Water, interrupting them both while damaging them a bit. Then he followed it up with a Dragon Pulse to the one whose legs he hit earlier, finally taking it out of the fight.
The other Bibarel retaliated for its friend’s fainting by lunging at him and tackling him, but the Goomy felt more damage from the Sandstorm than from the tackle. That allowed him to attack by using Dragon Pulse, which finally took the Bibarel out of the fight as well.
And with both of them out of the fight, Zernebog grinned despite the ongoing storm. ”Great job you two! Messy as hell, but I can live with it.”
Chuckling to himself, the white haired man tossed an Ultra Ball towards one of the Bibarel before going towards Gaia and her victims and tossing a pokeball at one of the fallen Bidoof. Maybe someone could use them.
