She decided to drop by her father’s workplace which was located in Lilycove before setting out on another series of catching blunders. She knew that she couldn’t dawdle long enough (lest she be seen by the other members of Thomas’ family) in order to draw attention, so she was moving through the area at a quick pace. Her mind was so preoccupied; she didn’t realize that her feet were actually carrying her out to the point of land that stuck out facing Lilycove Bay (or to other travelers not native to the region, Route 124).
She then noticed that the old couple who usually hung around the area wasn’t at their usual spot, and she wondered what was wrong. She then sighed, before sitting down at the very edge of the stretch of land, her legs dangling over the edge.
She sighed, before resting her head on her hands, and looking out at the surface of the sparkling water. She could see that there were some people swimming in the deeper ends; and that there were some silhouettes stuck on some shallow spots of land—she suspected that they were fishing for whatever they could reel in out of the water. What am I going to do with you… she thought, her mind traveling to the “Prodigal Son” of Lavaridge Town.
Being from Hoenn and having traveled the whole region as a child with his parents who've been traveling around the place as coordinators since they were young, Marcus didn't really find Lilycove as appealing as many make it out to be. The only real good things about it, to Marcus anyway, is the department store, contest hall, and harbor. Everything else either bores him, or are things that he could find else where.
With a resigned sigh, he walked out of the department store with a couple bags in each hand. For this, he could blame his mother. He just happened to be near Lilycove at the time when his mother called him on his Pokenav. Being someone who jumps at opportunities like these, his mom demanded him to buy a whole list of things. Of course, she could've just come over with her Gardevoir, but she was lazy. I can see where my random moments of laziness comes from...
With that lingering thought, Marcus moved all the bags into one hand as he unclipped a regular pokeball with a green, jagged "G" on the button, and enlarged it before throwing it up. It opened, spewing a bunch of white light onto the ground, where it soon formed into a humanoid figure just a few inches shorter than Marcus. The white light then dispersed, revealing a Gallade staring blankly at Marcus. Said trainer sighed as he caught the now empty pokeball from midair, and lifted the plastic bags to his Gallade. "Sorry Gale... You can relax all you want back home once you deliver this. Just come back before the day ends." To this, Gale nodded, and took the bags before teleporting away to their home in Littleroot.
May as well enjoy the harbor while I'm here. From when he was a child, he had many little spots he would relax in the city. However, almost all of them have disappeared or were taken over by tourists. That is, except one. Unfortunately for him, someone was already sitting at the edge of his cherished spot. "I guess it makes sense, considering it's been years since I last set foot here," he murmured, just loud enough for the girl sitting at the edge to hear. He walked to the edge, and laid down his backpack and guitar as he stood, staring out into the bay. "I take it you're a tourist?"

She was looking around to see if there were any pebbles she could attempt to chuck out on the surface of the water—but she secretly hated the fact that the pebbles always sank like a stone whenever she would try it—when she heard someone speak not too far behind her. Turning around, she looked to see that she wasn’t alone—her companion had placed what appeared to be his luggage down near where she sat—yet remained standing up. “Well, technically you could say that… but I’m a Hoenn native. I hail from Lavaridge, to be exact. Though my father works in the Department Store over there,” she gestured towards the tall building looming in the distance.
Swiveling her body around so that she could get a better look at her companion, she moved over slightly, before patting the area near her spot. “Come on, sit down… that is unless you don’t want to join me,” she added, before looking out over the water again. Her thoughts were currently all over the place, but they were brought to a stop since she was currently conversing with someone at the moment. “I just got back from Unova, so this is like my ‘homecoming’ celebration. I’m Izumi, and you are…?” she said, by way of introducing herself. She then proceeded to swing her legs while they were dangling over the edge—she had no idea how deep the water was if she accidentally dropped into the water without meaning to.
"Huh. Is that so...," Marcus wondered out loud as he took Izumi's offer. He took off his shoes and socks, and rolled up his jeans a little before sitting down next to her and sticking his feet in the cool, clear water. It definitely did wonders to his feet, as he let out a content hum while he softly kicked the water back and forth.
At her introduction, Marcus turned his head towards Izumi and flashed his typical grin as his mind started to dig up a memory. "Pleased to meet'cha, Izumi. The name's Marcus." He turned back to look towards the bay with a smile, and hummed a little before speaking again. "Lavaridge to Unova to Lilycove, huh... Sounds like one awesome adventure to me." The smile shrank, but never lost any of its genuineness or mirth. "I've been traveling a lot too. Ever since I was a little kid, my parents and I went all over Hoenn. I've never really stayed in one place for more than half a year, honestly, but it was wonderful, meeting all those people and seeing all those sights..."
There was a slight pause before he chuckled at his slight lapse in memory. "You know the old couple that took care of the hot springs in Lavaridge, right? I went to visit Lavaridge just a few months ago, and we reminisced about the past and all that. Then they mentioned an Izumi, and how her family recently left the town." He blinked, before turning his head to Izumi and laughing sheepishly while scratching the back of his head, a habit he copied from his dad at a very young age. "Oh, sorry 'bout me rambling on like that... I kinda figured you were the same person, but what're the chances of that?"
Post by Izumi Yamamura on Dec 16, 2013 2:57:54 GMT -5
At the mention of the hot springs, her ears perked up, and she began, “Oh the Grannies? Well… you could say that they’re always there, either lounging in the sand, or taking a dip in the Hot Springs… they don’t give Eggs away anymore unlike back then, but…”she trailed off, before squinting her eyes into the distance and then stopping at the mention of her own name. “Well, I’d like to correct you just a bit on that… I’m the one who left Lavaridge; my mom’s still there, running the small café. I wonder how she’s faring without me. I kind of left all of a sudden… but I haven’t visited my dad in the Department Store yet, because I don’t want them to fuss over me,” she ended, cringing at the thought of her own parents swooping down like a pair of Braviary and bringing her back to the nest.
“Well, I am that same Izumi, just that the Grannies can get mixed up sometimes,” she said, offering her hand to his for a handshake. “I’m keeping tabs on the hometown’s ‘Prodigal Son’—that’s why I’ve been away for a bit, chasing down information trails in Unova… and Kanto as well,” she added, silently amazed at how ships could travel so fast over such large expanses of water. “It’s proving hard at the moment, but I’m determined to being the guy home safe and sound,” she added, finally voicing what was on her mind she wasn’t going to let the additional details slip just yet; not while she was still piecing information together and trying to figure out her next move.
“So, from what part of Hoenn do you hail from?” she asked, in an attempt to get to know Marcus a bit more.
Marcus was a little more that surprised to meet the very same Izumi the elders back at Lavaridge told him about. After the little correction she made, he gave her a firm handshake as she went on to explain why she left. He took it all into stride as he pieced all this new information together. A "Prodigal Son," huh... The grannies did mention something like that, but I really don't remember all that much about it...
Izumi's sudden question effectively shook Marcus out of his thoughts, and brought him back to the real world, where he found himself looking back at the bay. He shook his head and faced Izumi again, with one of his sheepish grins. "Oh, I'm from Littleroot Town. It's really quiet and peaceful there, so I find myself coming home every so often to take a break from my travels, get a home-cooked meal, and just spend time overall with my parents. Even if my mom's a little demanding..." He muttered the last part with a mix of amusement and annoyance, as it's quite the sight when his father's the one on the receiving end.
After another slight pause, he remembered another thing and slapped his forehead. "Agh... I can't believe I forgot this, but the grannies have been worrying about you, y'know. Apparently the whole town is too. I understand completely why you don't wanna see your parents, but it doesn't hurt to give them a call." He looked at the intricately-designed silver ring with a beautiful light sapphire gem and absentmindedly rubbed the jewel as he remembered a bad memory from his travels in another region. "...'Cuz when you have no one else to go to, family is always there for you..."

“The grannies tend to do that a lot you know. Fuss over all of the young ones in town. Hell they even fuss over Flannery whenever she’s not around in the Gym… that’s because she’s either in the Hot Springs, taking a break, or is within Mount Chimney, training her team,” she said with a goofy grin on her face, and in the back of her mind, a pair of Mandibuzz was added to the mental image of the Braviaries that were searching for her—as she was the baby bird they were all looking for. When he mentioned Littleroot, she cracked another grin, and said, “So have you seen the Hoenn champions around there, or no? I’ve heard that our region’s Champions hail from there… though I haven’t actually seen them in person at all,” she added with a knowing frown crossing her face. “Or are they just that busy…” she trailed off, looking out over the surface of the water once more.
At his last statement, she nodded solemnly, and then adding her own two cents, “I agree on that… this guy I’m tailing doesn’t have his family anymore; his mom died while he was young, and there’s no word about his dad… so basically he became the town’s favorite kid. Then he got himself mixed up in some trouble and only recently returned... before setting off again. It’s hard living on the road all the time but I’m getting used to it…” she continued, swinging her legs over the edge once more before letting them dangle. “My mom fusses even more than a Braviary does whenever it’s mad…” she trailed off, cringing at the mental image. “Even if I did leave a letter and all explaining what and where I was headed…”
As Marcus listened to Izumi, he couldn't help but sigh. It has been a while since he last had a conversation like this with someone other than his parents. It felt... enlightening, in a way, listening to the blights other people have to face, and their own life stories. That, and sharing his own life made him feel a little more lighter. He'll probably never be the same person he was three years ago, but he's on his way back on track.
"Yeah... Living alone is rough. You're never truly alone with your pokemon by your side, but it's always nice to have another person to talk with during those journeys..." With that, Marcus turned to his stuff, and took out a guitar that's in wonderful condition, but has little details to show that it's been used for a number of years. "Unlike most trainers, I'm not aiming for the top. I just come and go, travel to see the sights, and battle others for the fun of it. Helping out whenever I can and making others happy through what I can do..." As he said this, he tuned his guitar and strummed, releasing a soothing major chord.
"Hope you don't mind me playing a song," he said as he began strumming the opening to a song.
"The seasons passing by... Left it all behind. And everything was so wonderful...
All the things we've done, Our memories will go on. And it's gonna be wonderful... Yeah..."
And he continued it with a melancholy smile, all the way 'til the end.

“I take you’ve been around,” she said with a chuckle as Marcus shared his own experiences with travelling the world. It did get quite lonely at times; but with any ‘mon, then the journey was a lot less lonely—even if they couldn’t understand human language. She then watched as he reached for the guitar, and then said in a tone full of wonder, “Ooohh, you can play?” before nodding, letting him just basically do his thing; and he then struck a few notes in the air before breaking out into a full song. She then hitched up her legs so that they rested on the very edge of the pier, and then nodded ff with his song—it did have a certain quality to it that could make one homesick if played at the most opportune time.
Once the entire song was finished, she then brought her hands together and clapped, truly feeling the emotion that the song had conveyed. “So you’re a traveling artist of sorts then, I take?” she asked, gesturing at his musical instrument. “You could say that while I’m travelling, I also keep an eye out for certain ‘mons that some contacts of mine would want—because they’re either too lazy to find them or their luck is just that sour as compared to mine,” she said by way of explanation, and the tinny noise of clapping ceased as she looked out over the water’s surface once more.
“I hate getting homesick… but there are times that it’s inevitable—like now, for example,” she said, gesturing towards the instrument he was playing. “That was a beautiful song. Do you have another?” she inquired, hoping that he had more up his sleeve—it had been a while since she’d heard actual music in her life.
Marcus turned to Izumi and did the best bow he could do, considering he was sitting and had a guitar in front of him. "Thank you, thank you. Been through all of Hoenn and another region as a traveling musician, wandering helper, and cook all in one. ...Though, I don't really carry around cooking utensils, so I'm limited to what I find and catch in the wild." Playing that song certainly lifted his mood; just knowing that at least one person genuinely appreciated the music and cheered up because of it is enough to make his day.
While Izumi talked about what she usually does, Marcus lightly strummed a random tune to brighten up the already beautiful sunset ahead of them, eyes shining with happiness. "Hn... Sounds like a cool job. I usually make my living mainly from competitions and trainer battles. Can't exactly say it's the most stable, but I'm actually well off as of now."
When Izumi pretty much asked for another song, Marcus' smile turned into a grin as he faced Izumi again. "Of course! Seeing as how the holidays are coming up, I've got quite a few I'd like to sing." He started plucking an improvised introduction to "White Christmas" in a smooth, acoustic style, before singing.
"I'm... dreaming of a white... Christmas, Just like the ones I used to know... Where the treetops glisten... and children listen... To sleigh bells... Ringing in the snow...
I'm... dreaming of a white... Christmas, With every Christmas card I write... May your days be jolly and... bright~ And may all your Christmases be... White..."
With that, he continued playing a small solo on his guitar as he looked towards Izumi, motioning her to join in with a big grin plastered onto his face. "C'mon, join in. I won't bite." And with that, he started from the top.

She nodded at his brief explanation of where he’d been—and then chuckled at the thought of having to lug around a lot of stuff just to be able to cook in the wild. “I sometimes live off of the area too. My army ends up eating everything I can’t… which is mostly the weird-looking Berries,” she added with a grin, remembering the times she’d been going around the forests, looking for certain ‘mons to capture and then sell off to her clients. Generally they just wanted the one they specified, nothing too complicated… and then there were some who she had on her waiting list but had yet to get back to (like Thomas, another Hoenn native). He then granted her request for another song; but the lyrics were so alien, she didn’t know what came next after he asked her to join in!
She then felt her face flush faintly, and then admitted after a few seconds of silence (and embarrassment), “I… I don’t know the lyrics to that one,” while giving him a sheepish grin. “I don’t know if you know this one though,” she said, clearing her throat and trying to scour her memory for the tune—after a while, she cleared her throat, and then attempted to sing this song:
“Dancing bears Painted wings Things I almost remember, And a song someone sings once upon a December
Someone holds me safe and warm, horses prance through a silver storm, Figures dancing gracefully, across my memory…
Far away, long ago things I yearn to remember and a song someone sings Once upon a December
And a song someone sings Once upon a December…”
She was quite surprised with herself that she’d gotten most of the lyrics right; although she knew she was missing something—a few verses or so—but she didn’t mind. At first her voice was something soft, and warbling, but then panned out into something that didn’t sound so flat. After that, she lapsed into silence, looking away due to embarrassment—hell nobody heard her sing in public. Ever.
Marcus smiled and laughed lightly at Izumi's embarrassment to not knowing the lyrics of the song. "No worries. We can't know everything, now can we," he commented as he kicked his feet back and forth in the bay waters. All the tension and stress in his body slowly chipped away as he spent more and more time with Izumi. He felt like reverting back to his true, younger self, who was so carefree and happy with life.
However, his train of thought was broken as Izumi prepared to sing a song of her own. He nodded, and listened to her. This song was definitely something he never heard before, but it was beautiful, despite the small wavers in her voice in the beginning. Some time in the middle of the song, it became even and light, making the song sound even better.
By the end of it, Marcus was clapping and grinning widely. "That was beautiful! I can tell you don't sing too often, but if you practice a little everyday, your voice'll be perfect! You're in the range of an alto, and your most comfortable key seems to be G." With that, he began strumming an acoustic version of the intro to "Let it Snow." "C'mon and join in whenever you feel comfortable."
"Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful. And since we've no place to go, Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!..."

After she’d sang her own little song (which was surprising considering that she may have skipped over some of the parts without realizing it) he then gave her his input, which in turn made her all the more flustered! Nobody’s ever praised me for this… well maybe because I don’t sing that often in public… she thought as she felt her own ears burning red. “You… you think so?” she began, evidently out of words on how to be able to express her sentiments at the moment. “I… I haven’t sung in front of anyone, not ever,” she added a few moments later, getting all the more embarrassed the longer the subject was focused on that. She then grinned as he began to strum up another tune—and this one was one she knew; hopefully she didn’t croak like a frog once she sang her part!
Picking up from where he’d left off, she continued;
“The fire is slowly dying And my dear is still good-by-ing
But as long as you love me so Let It Snow! Let it Snow! Let it snow
When we finally kiss goodnight How I'll hate going out in the storm! But if you'll really hold me tight All the way home I'll be warm…”
Strangely, her own voice didn’t crack up or go against what she wanted it to do; and she sighed in relief as she then gestured in his direction to continue, “At least I know this one,” she said with another goofy grin on her face. Wonder what else he knows, because in all honesty, I only know a few… and they may be the stranger ones at that! She thought as she waited for the next cue to join in and harmonize with the tone he was picking out on the guitar at the moment.
To Marcus, singing is something precious that ought to be shared with everyone. It soothes him and relives him of his troubles when he hears the different voices that accompany singing. The smooth baritone to the energetic soprano... It really is a beautiful thing. And to hear someone say that they can't sing is painful. But he wasn't thinking of that at the moment; he was too engrossed in sharing this wonderful holiday tune with a fellow Hoenn native, traveler, and vocalist.
At the end of Izumi's section, he nodded and took over.
"The fire is slowly dying... And my dear, we're still goodbying. As long as you love me so... Let it snow, Let its snow, Let it snow!
Oh, it doesn't show signs of stopping, And I've brought some corn for popping. Since the lights are turned way down low Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!"
And with that, he went on to play the instrumental break, and looked up to Izumi with a small smile and understanding eyes. "The first time of anything can be rough, but it'll only get easier from there. Now c'mon! Let's sing the last verses together!" And with that, he switched the key from E to G to make singing easier to Izumi, and mouthed a countdown. With that, he waited for the first line to be sung, before he harmonized with Izumi.
"...Oh how I'll hate going out in the storm! But if you'll really hold me tight, All the way home I'll be warm!
The fire is slowly dying... And my dear is still goodbying. But as long as you love me so, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!"

Izumi was really enjoying the sing-along with Marcus; because it reminded her of something that she hadn’t done in a long time—and that was something of great comfort to her. As he picked up the tune from where she’d left off; she could feel another smile creeping up on her face—it was getting wider and wider; until he dropped off; before he told her that it was time to sing the final part of the entire song. After letting him sing the first part of the final verse, she then joined in at the next line, letting her voice do its own thing;
“But if you'll really hold me tight, All the way home I'll be warm!
The fire is slowly dying... And my dear is still goodbying. But as long as you love me so, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!”
After that last part, she then began clapping once more, letting the tinny sound echo all around them—she had no idea if there was anyone else watching, but she really did have fun! “That was fantastic,” she said, nodding in his direction. “You know, your voice really can harmonize with anyone else’s. You’re really talented,” she said, complementing him after that last part. “Now I don’t feel so lonely anymore… now that I know home is where the family is,” she nodded, before picking up a fallen stone near her and sending it skipping across the water. She watched as it hopped approximately four times before it finally sank, and then blinked out of surprise.
After a while, she then stood up, patting herself down—before asking, “You want to eat somewhere? I know a few places around here… my treat,” she added after making sure that she was sufficiently clean. Having to stare out at the water helped calm me down… she thought after that last statement.
