Title: The Sting of Loss Claimed By: Open Catching: No Members: 2-4 Rewards: •25 Description: Littleroot, an unassuming town many pass by it every day, some don't even give it a second glance yet as of late, people have been going missing in the town. It is unknown as to why, or whom is doing this, with no pattern to follow the authorities are left baffled. So now the community has put together all the money they can, in an effort to hire anyone who would lend them a helping hand in finding their loved ones. It could be a Pokemon, or could very well be a human doing this, to find out you must venture into the darkest pits of the wilderness, follow what clues you can, and pray to the heavens you don't become another statistic.
Location: Littleroot
Since she wanted to tackle the Hoenn gyms in natural order, she then sighed as she found herself walking all the way to Littleroot Town—this was where everything “seemingly” began—and from the looks of the mission that she’d gotten, it was a “search-and-rescue” kind of thing. The only snag here was that she had no idea who she was going to be paired up with this time around, so she decided to make utmost haste in order to get there ahead of her “partner”, though she had a slight suspicion that she knew who it was… brushing the thoughts aside, she then looked at the temporary residence which now held her recently-acquired Deino, from her first attempt at the Safari Zone. Heh, who knew I would get lucky? She thought, remembering the first time she and Riku had interacted—as it was, she found out that the Deino line couldn’t see, but had really good hearing.
At least he’s taken a liking to me now, I think he forgave me for the time that I actually caught him, smacked him with Kuma’s Ice-type attacks… she thought with a grin, pondering on how to fill up the rest of her roster. She then quickly took out her newly-purchased hand-sized notepad, as well as a pen and then riffled through the notes she’d managed to take so far; they were mostly plans of what ‘mons she wanted to acquire, as well as contacts from some people (there was even an order for her “Catching Service” for someone who came from another region entirely) who were interested in getting certain ‘mons from her, since she realized she could turn her seeming disadvantage of encountering random ‘mons into a business opportunity.
Once she’d gotten to Oldale Town, she quickened her step—and then realized she could just hop over the ledges on one side of the somewhat straight road, therefore saving her some time from wading through the really tall, wild, untamed grass. Tick tock… she thought in her mind as she quickly scaled over the ledges, finally arriving at Littleroot Town, where the mission was supposedly going to take place. She then stood off at one side, waiting for her partner (or partners) to appear…
The night had settled upon the land, the shadows crept into place as the night took hold of the quiet little town with it came a cold gust of wind that pushed the branches to rustle their leafs causing a gentle rain of green leafs to be blown in the direction of a man with a long black cloak. Rustling in the wind the end of the long cloak would dance wildly at his ankles as he stood there, his crimson eyes closed he was seemingly enjoying the night breeze, the tranquil silence that fell around him only the sounds of nature itself ringing into his ears. That is of course until he opened his eyes at the sound of someone approaching, turning his head away from the direction it was facing he focused his crimson eyes upon the familiar face that was Izumi, the man was not even surprised at least not visibly. In silence he stared at the woman waiting for her reaction to his presence, until then he took his eyes from her focusing them upon the town they were meant to explore in order to solve this unique mystery they had been tasked with, ”Good to see you again Azi” he said to the girl using her nickname without realizing it, the tone remained as flat as ever. The man would wait a moment longer before speaking again, ”This town is plagued by a series of disappearances, not be grim but I will presume the lost ones are dead” he pause for a moment after saying that expecting something to come from Izumi, a remark of sorts.
”….the days have been many, and some of these people have been lost for months. It is a testament to how useless the local authorities have taken to solve this, and it is also suspicious to believe they would task two strangers to solve such a mystery. I advise we approach with caution…for now we should head to the first crime scene” he said to the girl, he had taken the liberty to speak to some of the town’s people before her arrival, and had received some information. It was not until Bunji walked that from the shadows a hulking Poliwrath emerged walking out from its hiding place, giving Izumi a nod of acknowledgement the Poliwrath’s natural glare would turn from the girl as it followed its trainer. Before long the duo would come across a seemingly man made path that was located behind one of the homes, ”From what I gathered from the locals, this is where the first disappearance took place, since then they suspect whatever has been taking the townsfolk has used this, and similar paths to drag its victims…shall we?” he said to the girl turning away from her as he started marching down the path. Poliwrath would wait for Izumi to follow Bunji before he himself followed, it seemed the hulking fighter would work as their guard on this mission…

She recoiled slightly, but it was out of surprise—as her partner for this mission was someone very familiar—if in fact too much so. “Hello,” she nodded, and her hand quietly reached for one of the five occupied Pokeballs, and found the grasp of one. She didn’t know which of her team was contained within it, but she decided she would try and give Riku a spin, since they were going to be going on a searching mission—and even if Deinos were naturally blind, their sense of acute hearing more than made up for that little loss of one of their other senses. After the initial commentary, the first thing that she spoke out loud was, “You sound so droll, as always. Are you not happy to see me?” before giving a tiny cough, and then continuing on with what she really wanted to say about their little “errand” for this evening. “It is always right to presume, but not assume. You never know if they’re still around… or if they grew up wild,” she began, before continuing with, “What can we do about it… people don’t come out so far to a place like this,” before following him to the backside of one of the houses, where there was a path seemingly leading into the gathering gloom.
“Well then, time to put his sense of hearing to good use… come on out, Riku,” she chimed, bringing out one of the five occupied Pokeballs on her person, and in a flash of red light, the Deino appeared… and began sniffing around the ground, before following the sound of Izumi’s voice. “Now, Riku… can you pick up on anything? Any unusual sounds… anything that’s not ordinary within this forest?” she asked, making sure to command him by voice, not by gesture—as she found out the hard way recently that the Deino race of ‘mons were born blind, but gifted with more acute senses of smell and hearing. “Deino, dei, deino?!” she heard him say in a guttural manner, before watching the small quadruped walk forward and then tilt its head seemingly from side to side, trying to pick up anything out of the ordinary…
As he walked at a steady pace he would turn over his shoulder his eyes focusing upon the Deino that walked between just for safe measure he looked up towards Ploliwrath the bulking Pokemon walked along behind Izumi keep his eyes peeled but mainly focused on his trainer. Bunji would take his eyes from the following trio staying so as to not interrupt Deinos attempt at picking up any sounds that could help them along in this little quest, the male continued to march on until he suddenly stopped, turning his gaze to the side he found a long narrow path between a series of bushes that lines said path. ”Stay here Izumi” he said to the girl before his body suddenly dashed down the path, the long cloak of his rustling behind him with every movement, the male dashed down the path keeping his crimson eyes peeled. Poliwrath remained behind taking a step forward as he looked around a low “Wrath…” escaping him, his eyes attempting to find any sign of his trainer perhaps he was more concerned with the safety of his trainer, suddenly Bunji would emerge from the path after minutes of being gone. Looking at the trio he focused mainly on Izumi, ”This way, there’s something I found” he said to the girl turning to lead them down the path, the group would move at a much slower pace now yet off in the distance a large clearing would be visible at least the closer they got the more obvious it became. Bunji stepped out first the others following behind, in front of them there was what looked like an abandoned shack just sitting here in the middle of the wilderness, the atmosphere around the shack was creepy to say the least putting even Poliwrath on edge as it looked around fist ready for anything.
Bunji would walk over towards Izumi, his hand resting on her shoulder, and his mouth leaning close to her exposed ear ”Take the back entrance with Deino, I will enter through the front, we meet inside. Be careful” he whispered into her ear his warm breath pushed into her ear with every word, with that Bunji took his hand from her shoulder his hand emerging with a Pokeball ready aiming it at Poliwrath he returned the edgy Pokemon to its resting place. Bunji planned to enter alone, assuming Izumi had already gone around he approached the door with caution pulling it open as quietly as he could but the inevitable creek would come from the doors worn hinges, stepping in his crimson eyes scanned the area he was stepping into. To the best of his ability it was all safe, once he was inside he was greeted by a musty atmosphere, old furniture decorating a living room that looked as if it had not been used in years, and just in the distance at the end of a long hallway a kitchen from which he could see the door he expected to see Izumi step into any time.
In the meantime he explored the living room trying to find any signs of recent use in this place…

After stumbling around in the undergrowth for a while (it was lucky she had Riku out and he was looking over his shoulder to check if she was still with him) they finally came upon what appeared to be an abandoned shack, and all of her instincts were screaming “trap”; yet she knew that if they had to get to the bottom of everything, they would have to look around every nook and cranny—and then she felt his breath tickling her ear; and for a moment she felt her face flush a faint shade of pink—and then he walked off towards one side of the abandoned place. She then quickly forced her feet to move, so that she could at least get going towards the back side of the “house”, if it could be called one—as it was just a one-storey structure that looked like it would collapse if one eventually applied enough pressure to the walls to make them cave in. “Deino, dei, deino…?” she heard her companion call out, having taken the lead and was already plodding towards the back door.
She could only watch in awe as her Deino picked its way through the area without bumping into anything—was it using something similar to the concept of how a Zubat got around in the darkness? “Alright, I’m coming, wait for me,” she said as softly as she could, quickly picking up the pace and eventually arriving at the back door—it looked like it was locked, and she was sorely tempted to kick it down; but then realized that subtlety was the name of the game here, so instead she gave the door a slight push. She was surprised to see that it had swung open, and Riku then marched in first, followed by her—she could see Bunji somewhere up front, and she assumed that he was in the living room or the receiving area of sorts.
She then began looking around the area, before spotting something that looked out of place. “Who would have a fridge here out in the wild…” she said, more to herself than out loud, and then made her way over to it, and then was pondering on how to open it, when she reached into her pocket and pulled out a handkerchief and then wrapped it around the metal bar that protruded from the fridge’s body, and then pulled as hard as she could; because it was seemingly sealed tightly. Why can’t I open this thing… she thought to herself as she struggled, while Riku was looking through the open cupboards and sniffing around the undersides as well, hoping to find something interesting.
Bunji was investigating the living room when his ears would catch the sound of the door creaking open turning his attention in the direction of the ground he heard multiple footsteps stepping over to look over the corner the male would rest his eyes upon the familiar female that was Izumi. He would give her a nod to acknowledge her presence then continue his search throughout the living room, yet besides finding all the things one would expect from a space such as this, he found nothing out of the ordinary. It was not until he heard struggling in the kitchen that the male took his eyes towards the hallway once again casting aside his thoughts, walking over the man was cautious as he approached the end of the hallway stepping out to the corner his crimson eyes would settle upon the sight that was Izumi trying to pry open a refrigerator door. The male observed the girl as she struggled, he stifled a chuckle that almost escaped him threatening to be audible enough for the girl to hear it, clearing his throat he stepped forward placing a hand on Izumi’s shoulder ”Allow me” he said to her, once the girl had stepped aside he too stepped back. Holding up a Pokeball Bunji would flick it up releasing Poliwrath once more, the hulking blue fighter turned towards Bunji with a sharp gaze, nodding at the companion Bunji would say ”The door, if you would please” with that alone the Poliwrath focused upon the structure reaching over with both hands.
Placing one hand upon the fridge, and the other on the handle the Poliwrath’s muscles would tense exerting force as he pushed, and pulled at the same time not long after the Pokemon would literally rip the door open causing quite the ruckus so much so that even Bunji looked around making sure no one was close by to catch the sound. Turning his attention to the fridge just as Poliwrath stepped to the side allowing them to view the contents of the fridge, the male stepped forward pushing the now barely hanging door to the side as his crimson eyes settled upon the inside of the fridge. The man’s crimsons would widen for a moment as he took a step back, covering his mouth to prevent the overwhelming stench from getting into his nostrils, inside the fridge? It was stocked with multiple glass bottles that contained organs within them the man would eye them all before turning his attention to Izumi, ”I believe we can rule out that any have su—“ it was then that he was cut off by the sound of…a violin? Bunji turned along with Poliwrath both focusing upon the door that was in the hallway, it would lead where? To the basement raising a brow Bunji walked towards the door until he stood in front of it, Poliwrath stood near his trainer the two focused upon the door, the sound was definitely coming from there reaching for the knob Bunji turned it, surprisingly it was open.
”We move in, with caution” he warned Poliwrath would nod in agreement the blue Pokemon glancing back at the girl, and the Deino to make sure they understood the instruction with tht Bunji opened the door allowing them access to a long flight of dark stairs with a dim light down at the end of them. With Bunji took the first few steps down leading the group of four down, stepping to the side up top Poliwrath motioned for Izumi, and Deino to follow in he would protect the rear…

It was a good thing he’d arrived and helped open the fridge—with some assistance from his “personal bodyguard” it seemed. She took a step back, then two, and then almost knocked backwards into the sink out of horror and disgust—for what she was expecting inside said fridge was not what she normally wanted to see. Instead of normal supplies like non-perishable food and bottles of water, what was inside the fridge almost made her stomach turn over—and she was lucky that Riku was out and not Momo, for the appalling sight inside the fridge was more than enough to make her run screaming from the building… “What… what the hell is that?!” she said, her voice rising in intonation, and since Riku was sharp of hearing, he quickly backed away as well, back towards his master, and then skulked at an area behind her legs. He could also smell the putrid odor wafting from the now-open fridge, and was apparently snarling as if ready to rip whatever had caused that scent to overpower the surrounded area to pieces. “Deino…” she heard Riku growl quite menacingly—and then they were drawn to the sound of… “Violins…” she trailed off, quickly and quietly following him into the depths of the room.
“A-alright,” she said a moment later, before looking down at Deino—it seemed that the “fur” on his neck was now standing on end, as if to war him about any impending dangers that were out and about. “Okay, Riku, follow me…” she trailed off, going down the long flight of stairs, following the hulking figure of the Poliwrath—the longer they went down, the dimmer the surroundings seemed to get… and it reached a point wherein she could not see any further than a few inches in front of her—and then she heard Riku’s reassuring growl from behind her; as if telling her to calm down—and they wound their way down more and more stairs—was it an endless room; had they been trapped in some unknown area where there was little to no hope of escape? She then shivered slightly; before rubbing her hands together to get them warm—but it was in vain, because the moment she’d acquired some semblance of heat, the immediate surroundings seemed to suck it all up.
The steps seemed endless with the combined weight of the group of four the steps seemed to creak under their weight as they continued to step on down the trail of steps, behind him Poliwrath remained diligent doing his job of checking on everyone, this is when he noticed Izumi rubbing her hands together for warmth. Turning away from her he gently nudged Bunji just as he reached the bottom of the stairs turning to face the Pokemon, the hulking blue fighter would step aside allowing Bunji visuals on Izumi, it was then that he caught the girl’s body language she was cold. Slipping his jacket off Bunji would reveal a tight fitting black shirt that lacked any sleeves so the males thick yet well-defined arms were visible the dim light coming from the room in front of him aiding in defining his well-toned physique, stepping towards Izumi the male embraced her silently even if just for a moment to wrap his cloak around her. Once it was securely on her shoulders he released her from the brief embrace, ”Stay warm” he said to her before turning away walking towards the entrance that led to the dim lit room, here the sound of the violin was very evident standing there he made room for Poliwrath, and the other two to step into the room there was a single long hallway that led far off to the end, it was well lit but it was also where the song was coming from.
It was obvious this basement had been edited around for someone’s personal use, with a heavy sigh Bunji looked at the rest ”Azi you stick with me, Poliwrath you guard the rear” he said reaching for Izumi’s hand he instinctively, and unknowingly pulled her close more of a protective instinct towards the girl. His eyes would make sure to very carefully examine the area in front of them before he walked ahead, still holding Izumi’s hand in his own giving her what seemed to be a reassuring squeeze every once in a while, the male marched forward with Poliwrath behind the group watching their backs. Then he stepped out of the hallway, only to be greeted by a terrible sight that left him speechless he watched with wide eyes, even Poliwrath could not comprehend what he was staring at. A man sat on a bench, an elderly man by the looks of it playing a violin in front of him? A corpse strung up by cables to stand in front of him the body littered with stitch marks…the man played the violin to the corpse that looked like homage to Frankenstein, ”What is that?” Bunji voiced out his tone carried by a shaky voice.
It was then that the violin stopped when it did the old man moved, instinctively Bunji stepped in front of Izumi as if to shield her from this man, ”She is my wife…I collected so many features of her from so many people, but she is missing the eyes…miss…your amber eyes, they look just like my wives….would y—“ before he could finish however he was hit with a solid punch to the face knocking him over. ”Don’t you dare lay a finger on her!” he yelled out having snapped at the old man without thinking, having released Izumi’s hand Bunji had rushed forward knocking the old fool down…

She was still shivering—but that came to a sudden stop when she felt something being draped around her shoulders, and she looked up to see that he’d given her his jacket… but what drew her attention were his arms, since when were they that well-built and toned?! Stop drooling, you’re embarrassing yourself, she chastised herself, and she was about to shake her head when she felt her hand in his—and then the slightest flush of color crept up o her face. Of course, Riku didn’t know anything about this at all, so she could just hear his shuffling footsteps as he tried to keep up with them—being blind was slightly disadvantageous at the same time it gave an edge with the sense of hearing. After a while, though… they finally reached the bottom of the area—and she had to hold her breath, because the sight was horrifying…
What the actual f… she thought, seeing something… no, someone—strung up like a turkey. It wasn’t a turkey, it was definitely human—and then there was this wizened little man—and then suddenly she saw the flash of red dart forward, before hearing the sound of something smacking the wizened old man. She didn’t register what he’d said, but obviously, the strung-up body was enough evidence—and she was secretly thanking herself for not sending out Momo, for the emphatic ‘mon would have… just tipped over and passed out at the nauseating sight. “What… what the hell is that!?” she shouted, not realizing her voice had reached fever pitch, and Riku, drawn to the trembling voice of his mistress, quickly rushed forward and stood in front of her in a protective stance, releasing a full-blown snarl directed at the creepy old man who was playing a violin just moments earlier.
I have to be dreaming, I have to be dreaming, I have to be… she thought, willing herself to look away—but the sight was just too much for her to take. Crapdangit, don’t faint, you’re better than this… she continued, willing herself to stop her legs from shaking and wobbling like jelly.
Poliwrath would remain still not following after Bunji just in case there was more than one of these sickos down here he could deal with the other, all the while Bunji himself found himself grabbing hold of the old man’s collar with a nice balled up fist he pulled the geezer up harshly pinning him to a nearby wall Bunji would keep his crimson eyes focused upon the now bleeding old man. It was time for him to show a glimpse of the new monster he had become, ”Any survivors? If so where are they?” he asked the old man stared at him, a smile forming on his face but it was rewarded with a swift punch to the gut not allowing him to bend over form the pain Bunji kept the geezer pinned. ”Speak!” he snapped with a sharp tone, punching the old man again, and again refusing to allowing him to double over in pain letting him grit through it all ”Again survivors…where?” he questioned, the old man would raise a shaky hand pointing at a nearby door that was made up of thick wooden planks, and large bolts. Looking over his shoulder at the door the male looked at Izumi, seeing she was shaken up by all this the male turned his eyes on Poliwrath motioning towards the door, with that the hulking blue Pokemon walked towards the door.
Reaching for the ring like handle it pulled with all his might using all his raw power to pry the door open, the sound of the door ripping open echoed in the silent basement once it did however the Poliwrath would find itself stepping back in shock, his eyes wide with surprise. Bunji knew what this meant, it was only reinforced when he heard the old man chuckling, ”….There are no survivors…” he muttered under his breath as he stood there holding the old man to the wall. ”You wont survive either” he said with a whisper this was enough to make the old man stop his low chuckles, releasing him from his grip Bunji spun around bringing the back of his left hand around for a well delivered smack to the face, the resulting impact knocking the old geezer over. Hitting the floor with a hard thud he walked away standing in front of Izumi as if to block her view, his crimson eyes focused upon the girl, ”Look at me” he said to her hoping to keep her ambers locked with his crimsons. Walking past the two Poliwrath approached the old man, it was brief but the old man put up an insignificant struggle against the much more superior Poliwrath, then it was heard the snapping and the thud of a limp corpse hitting the ground.
Turning to walk back to Bunji’s side the Poliwrath seemed to dust his hands off of the dirty deed before stopping next to his trainer, Bunji gave a nod to Izumi ”We turn the mission in, no survivors, get our reward…then we move on” he said to her before walking ahead again with Poliwrath following behind him.

The change that overcame Bunji was immediate—from that moment they saw the strung-up corpse, to the chuckling of the wizened old man—it was all just… wrong. She could only watch in silent horror as the old geezer chuckled, pointing to a door, and continued to stare on as he heaved the door open with all his might… and then her eyes widened in shock before looking away, as the sight within the room was too much; all she could remember before averting her face was the sight of sticky, splattered, dark-red blood. She shivered as the old man let out a chuckle, before breaking out into what she assumed was full dementia—but it was nothing, nothing compared to how Bunji had seemingly changed in front of her. Before she was about to protest, he suddenly came walking into view, as she watched the humanoid companion step forward—and Riku was still on full alert, having smelled the scent of so much blood, it was making him growl uncontrollably.
“What… what’s going on…” she asked, looking him straight in the eye, even if she could hear the sounds of feeble struggling, before it all came crashing to a halt as she heard something hit the ground, and the Poliwrath returned a few moments later, looking as if it had just snapped something—but was there regret on its features? She couldn’t tell. After the brie exchange, he disappeared back into the stairwell, with the ‘mon in tow—and she got a look at the crumpled figure that lay still on the floor of the grisly scene… “Shit,” was all she had time for, before forcing herself to get out of the room, Riku at her heels, nudging her with his head, as if asking if she was okay… she barely made it halfway up the stairs before a combination of nausea, fright, and paranoia overtook her, and she passed out, making a loud, resounding crash echo on the stairs—and that was when Riku rushed to the source of the noise, attempting to nudge her awake.
“Dei, deino. Deino!?” its growls echoed, repeatedly butting its head across her shoulder, to check if she was alright. “Deino!!!” it called out in alarm, still trying to awaken her.
The trip up the stairs was a quiet one Bunji he had just shown a side of him that he had kept secret, but he also knew that it was completely necessary for him to do so the male with the crimson eyes was aware that his methods had become a bit more harsh, and well brutal since his time in the Rockets. The male would walk up the stairs when suddenly the sound of a loud crashed, that came after many thuds caught his attention causing him to turn quickly looking past Poliwrath he settled his eyes upon Izumi, she was down! Wasting no time the man with the strawberry hair rushed down the stairs until he was near the girl, nearly shoving the Deino out of his way his ear came down to Izumi’s nose and mouth…she was breathing, rising up he quickly scooped under her head gently cradling her weight as he scooped his other arm under her legs. Pushing up with his feet he adjusted her in his arms holding her close to his person before turning only to face Poliwrath, shaking his head at the Pokemon he would said ”I have her” with that he started walking up the stairs, with Poliwrath allowing him to pass so he may follow.
Once they were all upstairs Bunji walked along making his way out of the shack with Izumi still in his arms, he wanted to lie her down to help her rest but instead he would march all the way back to Littleroot where he would have her checked out by the local doctor, he would make sure Izumi was okay then. With Poliwrath, and Deino following the male with the crimson eyes would walk along the path he so easily rushed down earlier, only to find himself stepping out onto the other pat that led to Littleroot. With this Bunji walked back heading towards the town, with an unconscious girl in his arms…she was kind of cute when she was sleeping the sight did make the male smile even if it was for just a moment…
