With the news of a Tournament and Contest taking place in the Kanto and Sevii Islands regions, it was just enough to spark the green haired trainer’s interest. While she didn’t care much for the Contest, nor was she initially aware of the fact her cousin had actually been a part of it, her interest was more so in the Tournament. With a change in her financial situation leaving Ricki pretty much broke and on her own, not only did the trainer in her want to participate, but her rather empty pockets were fond of the idea as well. Granted having to battle Elinda wasn’t part of her original plan, Ricki still enjoyed the Tournament while it had lasted and now it was time to reap in the benefits of her hard work.
With the Tournament behind her, and the Contest over by now, Ricki had decided to hit the islands and find a place to crash in the luxurious resort while the prices were low. A good idea that she patted herself on the back for, because it was probably the nicest place she had ever stayed at. She loathed the idea of having to leave behind such comfy beds, but she would have to move on eventually. Instead of staying inside to enjoy the comforts of her hotel room, though, Ricki was actually out and about in the town to take in the festivities around the place. Games, dances, parties, and so on, it was truly a make-shift paradise that made Ricki grin in delight. She hadn’t had much a chance to just mess around and have fun for a while, and now here was the perfect chance.
Except there was one little problem with her plan, and it took the form of a guy who wasn’t getting the hint. While Ricki was all for the idea of knocking out any pervert who decided to run his mouth, this guy was more subtle. He kept persisting, kept asking questions, trying to get to know her, complimenting her, something that wasn’t really that bad. Ricki wasn’t in the mood for it, though. She had placed a ban on dating, flirting, and the like for herself after her divorce. She had to get her shit together before she dove in for another pathetic love story, and this guy wasn’t catching the hint. Short answers, blunt responses, insults, he took them like a pro and just kept tailing after her, even as she tried to lose him in the crowd.
There he was again; ready to swoop in with another question, another attempt. Ricki shot him a dirty look, but he merely laughed it off and asked if she was alright. “No, I’m not” she snarled right back, but the guy responded with a worried look. Asking her what was wrong only earned him an accusing look from her. He didn’t get it, though. He wasn’t going to get it at this rate, and Ricki’s creep alert was starting to go off. Having been the unfortunate friend of a psychopath here and there, even dating one at some point, she liked to think she knew when someone wasn’t right in the head.
Moving along with her unwelcomed stalker, Ricki was starting to debate just turning and knocking the guy down for the count. She didn’t want to deal with police, witnesses, and the like, though. No, she needed another way to get rid of him, and when she was about to give up hope, a silver lining appeared in the dark clouds in the form of a rather familiar face. A young man she’d met back in Kanto who was starting to clean up the mess following a series of battles and strange arguments. He wasn’t exactly a social butterfly, but his personality was refreshing none the less. Spotting him, Ricki’s eyes shot around on the off chance he wasn’t there alone, but the moment the coast appeared clear, Ricki quickly bee-lined for her friend, stalker not too far behind.
“Jason!” the green haired trainer called out in hopes of getting his attention over the roar of the crowd. Hopefully he would see her coming in time to not be too caught off guard by her attempting to cling to his arm. Stalker still coming, Ricki shot the other a pleading look as she mumbled “I will totally buy you dinner or something if you just play along, and I apologize in advance. Creep alert six o’clock.” Immediately following the phrase, Ricki gave a charming grin as she loudly chimed “Sorry honey, I was so distract by all the festivities, I totally lost track of time!” Attempting her best to ignore the world, and the happy-go-lucky stalker slowly starting to give a confused look, Ricki kept a delightful grin directed at Jason, forcing the unfortunate man to play ‘boyfriend’ in hopes of getting rid of her little tag-along. “You didn’t wait too long, did ya, sweetheart?” she tagged on with a giggle, her smile twitching slightly in response to her own gag-worthy act.

An obvious disinterest, a barely managed smile A deep nod in agreement, a status quo exile
It was a strange thing, to not have any obligations or requirements placed on him - a feeling he had never really known before, at least not until a handful of months ago, but one that he still couldn't really get used to. That wasn't to say he didn't like it, though - it was refreshing to not have any demands placed on him, and as Jason slowly moved through the constantly shifting mass of people crowding the resort facilities and establishments he couldn't help but mentally take note of the fact that it was the first time he'd ever really been in a place like Chrono Island's resort, either. Probably the last at that, too - with the sheer number of people present it was one of the very few locations where he felt it safe to dip into his old employers' operations' accounts to pay for his stay there. With the sheer number of people present it was doubtful they'd bother checking it out, and even if they did... well, he'd see them coming long before they ever became aware of his presence. Had he a slightly different sense of humor, it almost would've been funny - the very skills he'd been given by the people looking for him would be his biggest advantage in avoiding them, and whether or not Jason found it particularly funny the irony of it was not lost on him.
In any case, though, the main question now was what to do while he was there. At the moment the resort was probably one of the few places within the Kanto and Johto regions where he was actually safe, and that wouldn't last forever - ideally, the time would be spent figuring out a way to leave the region without raising any red flags and drawing unwanted attention to himself, but on the other hand... he was very much well aware of what would happen if someone was pushed too far without a chance to simply rest and relax, and the more he thought about it the more tempting it became to simply do just that. Take a few days of the celebration to just collect his thoughts and recover, just do what he enjoyed with only minimal risk of being found. Nothing particularly fancy, just a few days doing nothing. What he did not expect, though, was for someone who actually knew him by name to cross his path there, and as his name was called out from the crowd it took a considerable deal of self control to not simply bolt for it - if Jason ran then and there it was doubtful they'd be able to catch him without the aid of a Pokemon, and the only thing that stopped him was the fact that he recognized the voice after a moment of hesitation.
What was she doing there? The festival? It made sense, sure, but Ricki had not struck him as the kind of trainer to be particularly interested in events like the Sevii Festival - he had honestly never expected to see her again after their encounter in Viridian, and that alone had been why he'd felt at all comfortable about giving her even his first name. It was a common enough one, and the chances of anyone linking her to him were next to zero - if there was anything he'd learned from his old work it was that acquaintances made people much, much easier to track down, and once again the option of making a run for it surfaced in his head only to be once again quashed by the fact that he knew he was safe, at least for the time being. He had a few days at the very least before the owners of the account he used became aware of it, and after that it would take another two or three days for them to get out to where he was to start looking for him. He knew he hadn't been followed and wasn't being watched, and as all of that passed through the young man's head he once again forced himself to become still and relax, both mentally and physically, as Ricki began moving through the crowd to approach him before grabbing onto his arm. Wait, what was she doi- oh. Probably a good fifteen to twenty feet behind her was a tail, moving through the crowd almost as quickly as she had been and making a beeline for the both of them - not angry or irritated from the look of it, though, which had Jason mildly confused. Why was she trying to get away from him, then?
.............. what? What had she just called hi- no, better yet, why? Confusion, lightly put, only barely began to cover what was beginning to permeate Jason's mind as the trainer he had met in Viridian suddenly turned into someone completely different, and it was only out of a long instilled habit that his expression barely changed as he watched Ricki's twitch a bit. Wait, twitch? Peoples' mouths didn't normally do that, right? What was going on? Still quite well aware of the unfamiliar man moving towards both of them, though, Jason forced his attention to focus on the unknown quantity as he looked away from Ricki and up and over to the third individual present who had been following her. He didn't know what was going on, but when in doubt, say nothing - if you were lucky the other guy would talk far more than they intended to, and with that give you whatever answers you were looking for. And if that didn't work, well... she'd promised him an explanation later, and he'd get it.
It didn’t take more than a few seconds to realize her friend-acquaintance-met the guy recently had no clue what she wanted him to do. His blank face didn’t change to become the face of some endearing boyfriend, no smile or barely even acknowledging her other than a stare. He just looked at her blankly, before looking over at the man she had been running from. Her sweet smile slowly turned into a poorly masked grimace and frustrated plea, as if she were shouting ‘Really?!’ in disbelief. It was like the task she offered him had just gone right over his head and faded away into oblivion to never be seen again. If one could read minds and apply a censor, it’d be safe to say Ricki’s mind was making one very long and loud beep.
Grumbling and hitting her head against Jason’s arm as if slamming her head on a table, followed by a frustrated groan, Ricki was careful not to hurt him, but just made her disappointment clear. Her stalker slowly quirked a brow at the scene and looked between the two, before gazing at Jason. “Do… You know her?” he asked, only for Ricki to turn a cold glare to him. He held his hands up to make himself appear innocent, before smiling nervously at her. Keeping her grip on Jason’s arm, now intending to turn the other into a witness at least, Ricki kept her gaze on the other, unnerved by that nervous smile. He was too determined, too optimistic, there had to be something wrong with this guy.
“Does it matter?” she shot back defensively. “I already told you three times, four counting now, fuck off! I’ve tried to be subtle, nice, and then fucking blunt, but you’re not getting it! So, y’know what? Next time, I’m making you” she warned, gritting her teeth as her temper danced dangerously close to the fire that would ignite it. People were starting to turn and stare now with Ricki shouting, but with her tensing muscles, it was clear she wasn’t paying that much mind. The guy fell silent at the words and gave an apologetic frown. He stepped forward and opened his mouth, only for Ricki to step back and finally let Jason go, prepared for fight or flight. Seeing the stance, he slowly shut his mouth and scanned Ricki carefully, as if debating whether the pursuit was still worth it.
That’s when his gaze turned to Jason and he rubbed the back of his neck, another nervous action. “Hey buddy, can’t you get your friend to calm down? She's really just blowing everything out of proportion for some reason. I was just looking for a date with a pretty girl, is all” he informed with a timid chuckle. Ricki snorted at the response and softly growled “Pretty obvious, I’m not interested, isn’t it?” There was a pause at her growl, the guy beginning to scratch at his neck as more of his nerves were being stirred by the mess this was becoming. Especially when Ricki was starting to adjust the position of her duffle bag to being behind her as she prepped herself to act.
An obvious disinterest, a barely managed smile A deep nod in agreement, a status quo exile
And from there on out Jason's confusion only got worse as the trainer's face suddenly shifted again at his response to the situation - whatever it was - as her facade dropped away to show little else beyond irritation and frustration. Wait, she was upset at him now, too? What did he do? Or was it something he was doing right now? Something he hadn't done? It wasn't like she could've really expected much else, right? They'd met all of maybe a week or two ago and for only a few minutes, maybe a half an hour - as it was he was honestly surprised she'd even remembered him, let alone his name. As far as he knew people didn't typically just run around asking random strangers for favors, right? And what was she doing with his arm? All questions that would have to wait as the man following her stopped and looked at both of them before opening his mouth to ask a very simple question. Or at least that's the way it appeared on the surface - that being said, despite the ease with which answering it would be, either of the two answers could have had any number of different outcomes.
What did he want from her, and conversely, why was she trying to avoid him? What actions would either of them take depending on his answer, and what ramifications would each action have? Things were rarely ever simply black and white - there was almost that intermediate gray, and it was often difficult at best to discern the long reaching consequences of each and every choice and action. Simply put, he did not have the information he would have liked to make an informed decision, and as a result Jason simply decided to go with the most obvious choice - the truth. Without knowing what was going on it would be far too easy to get caught in any attempt to mislead the other man, and the best deceptions were always the ones prepared in advance. On the spot, it was far better and easier to simply bend and twist the truth, assuming that was even needed, and after both Ricki and the stranger spoke Jason finally opened his mouth to reply in kind.
"I know her, yes. If she's asked you to leave her alone, why are you following her?" Jason asked, voice calm but somewhat cautious. As Ricki had backed away to put some distance between herself and the man who had been following her Jason almost immediately recognized her getting ready to fight - the slightly tensed stance, the bag she was carrying being repositioned so as to not get in the way and allow for a quick discard if needed. Not good - the last thing he needed or wanted was for a fight to break out. He had no doubt that Ricki could hold her own in a basic fist fight and probably drive off the guy following her, but he was more or less at ground zero. As fast as he could run and get out of there, injury wasn't his main concern - rather it was drawing attention to himself at all, which the fight would do for the entire crowd surrounding them if violence broke out. More than that, though, Jason didn't trust the third person there. While that could have arguably been true for the vast majority of the human population, he was plenty nervous enough to make Jason nervous - in his world nervous people generally were signs of other problems, problems that typically were not so easily made to go away or that tended to result in exactly the opposite of what he wanted to come of this situation - namely for all three to go their separate ways and leave it at that, no mess, no bad blood, literal or metaphorical. Worst case scenario, the person who had been following Ricki would force the matter and by extension her hand or Jason's.
"A far cry from a picture perfect calm, or can you see it? A bright light from a distance leaves you dark You're never free here"
As Ricki prepped for action, it appeared Jason was taking another approach to the situation. He was trying to do what Ricki had attempted, and convince the guy to just back off. She’d given up on that strategy a few minutes ago, though. Her patience wasn’t something to admire, other than how little she had. She’d been trying to work on it, but it was becoming frustratingly clear that she wasn’t making any leaps and bounds in developing tolerance for people. It was surprising she had even lasted this long without already mauling this guy, though. If it weren’t for the simple fact it was far too crowded to provide proper room for a fight, Ricki may have decked the guy many minutes ago.
In response to Jason’s question the man gave a slightly confused gaze. “I already told you, I just wanted to go on a date with a pretty girl, and she fits the bill” he informed, before looking back at Ricki. With a frown at the sight of her glare, he started to make another step towards her for reasons Ricki didn’t want to find out. The only reaction his approach cued was Ricki reaching behind her back and pulling a plastic toy from her bag and chucking it at him. While it was too crowded for her to throw a punch, she wasn’t going to let the creep come any closer. Nailing the man in the face with the toy, he suddenly cursed violently and took a step back. “What the hell is your problem?!” the man suddenly shouted, locking a chilling glare on Ricki. He’d brought his hands up to hold his face, covering a gash the toy had made in his face.
Ricki smirked at the change in persona, the man going from calm and docile to fuming and waiting to explode. Good to know her creep alert was still working, granted seeing the fact he was potentially psychotic wasn’t that comforting. Ricki reached behind her and zipped her bag shut. “I got ninety-nine problems and bitch, you are one” she informed, before glancing over at Jason. As the creeper held his head and tried to gather himself after the painful impact of the hard plastic toy to the face, Ricki moved to grab Jason’s arm and gently tugged him in her direction to get his attention. Despite her temptation to go on a rampage, she at least managed to control her strength long enough to make sure she didn’t grip Jason too tight.
Once he looked back at her or at least acknowledged her, Ricki would begin to pull his arm to start guiding him out of the middle ground between her and the creep. As she moved Jason out of the way, and no longer having him in the spot light, her gaze returned to the stalker. He began to pull his hands from his face and stared at them with a frustrated glare, finally beginning to recover from the earlier hit. Seeing him beginning to get his senses back to him, Ricki tilted her head slightly to the side and noticed a child holding a ball tightly to their chest. While it had been a while, Ricki could at least recall how to handle a ball thanks to once being on a soccer team. Kneeling down a bit, she mumbled to the child who suddenly seemed to light up and grin, handing the ball to Ricki.
The sweet little white lie of convincing a child you were fighting the forces of evil certainly benefited the teenager at points. Tossing the ball up slightly to get an understanding for the weight, Ricki smirked slightly as she discovered the ball was just perfect. She promptly dropped the ball and with a well-placed kick, the ball flew true to knock the creep right in the face. The ball bounced back, but ended up just dropping like a rock instead of bouncing once more as the sand absorbed all its momentum. With it being a few feet away and too close to the creep for Ricki to be comfortable with the idea of letting the kid go grab it himself, she rushed forward to retrieve it herself. Snatching up the ball and tossing it towards the kid, she didn’t bother to look back at the creep. She had no interest in turning to see he was now trying to wipe sand from his face, Ricki merely took this opening as a chance to finally bolt. While she was confident she could fight him, she didn’t think this was a good place to go that far.
So as she swiftly turned her back to her stalker, Ricki’s eyes turned to Jason. Whether or not he was about to leave on his own, Ricki wasn’t risking it as she grabbed his arm once more. With the creep having associated Jason with her, she wasn’t going to run the risk of leaving him behind to take the front of her stalker’s rage. With Jason now in tow, Ricki took off into the crowds and began to weave around, not really paying much mind to where she went. Anywhere but her starting point as good as far as she was concerned, so after five minutes of running, the young woman finally told herself she needed to stop.
Ricki slowed to a stop to finally catch her breath. Letting go of Jason to place her hands on her knees and bag slowly sliding to hang off her side, she worked on getting her breath back, before softly cursing. “That was a pretty cool bobble head of Ho-Oh from Olivine City… I can’t believe I wasted it on hitting some douchebag in the face” she grumbled, before taking a deep breath and looking over at Jason. “Sorry about dragging you into that, I didn’t expect you to react like that… You okay?” she asked, slowly standing upright.
