The Golden Knight smiled a little, no real apprehension in him. That was long gone - he was supposed to be training, and that was what he was going to do. It had been a long time since he'd gone on a true adventure. Most of his recent life had been stuck in Bayonada, what with the Sanctuary, setting up the Contest Hall, the whole storm incident, all these things flooding into his life and preventing him from doing what he had been doing for so long: experiencing the world, exploring, training, working together with his Pokemon to find new friends. That had been the plan for today, and in all honesty, he was glad he was getting back into the rhythm of things. If he planned to be stronger, to be able to protect others and really work for them, then he'd need to take care of training as much as necessary.
Which is why he had been very, very excited to learn of some caves with canal-like systems within then. He had certainly never been in these caves, and it would probably be a good idea to start charting unknown territory. A smile lit his face as golden eyes peered into the darkness, aided only by a torch. The canal would be doubly useful - it would allow his Water-Type Pokemon some space to move, and it would lead as a guide out of the cave, if he were to get lost. In case of emergency, though, he did have Colossus with him. His golden plate of armor reflected some of the torch light onto the stone.
It had been quite some time since he'd gone on a wild training expedition. He felt a surge of... excitement. Nostalgia too. The Golden Knight had become so... sedentary. The more he thought about it, the more alien it seemed - he had travelled for so long, only to feel like he'd left that life altogether? He hoped to find some large lake here, maybe show Ba'ul around. The echoes of water rolling over the stones of the cave was a soothing background to his footsteps. Every so often, the shifting sounds within the shadow would catch his attention, knowing a Pokemon was somewhere around. It was quite exciting.
He felt like such a child - he had left on a Pokemon adventure ten years ago. This brand of excitement was so naive, but he couldn't resist it. He was sure he'd make a good friend today, and if he didn't, well, he'd have a wonderful experience. The Golden Knight stepped with boldness in the darkness, his own thoughts swirling happily in his head.

By all means, if his parents knew where he was right now, they would probably have a fit. As they often did. The Golden Knight had a knack for doing things more dangerously than most, not out of recklessness, but because there was rarely another way to do them. How else could he explore these caves other than by heading into them himself and trying to chart as much ground as he could. Sure, there were wild Pokemon, and he was unsure if the tides would become an issue with the cave. It would certainly be an issue if the tides did flood the cave, but he was sure that he could face such a challenge together with his Pokemon. Not that the tides would rise - they would stay low for a few hours. This he knew.
William was used to these shadows, flickering around him like curious shapes, always seeking to touch and bother, but never really reaching, held back by the torch. The darkness didn't make him falter - he had been used to it after a few years of travelling and adventuring. One got used to the darkness after having to sleep in a cave because you couldn't find your way out. To him, the darkness was not an untouchable fear, a barrier of mystery: it was simply waiting for discovery. So he stepped forward, noting the trickling of the river next to him as a silent music behind his step.
"WHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS" Suddenly broke the silence, loud and resounding. The cry echoed in the cave, defiant, filling the ears of anyone who could have listened - the Golden Knight plugged his ears, almost in pain, and even with that he could hear the force of the sound. What kind of... a Whismur? The Normal-Type species was normally timid, but this one was advancing towards William defiantly, as if ready to attack. Was it being territorial? William didn't really know. He didn't want to necessarily hurt the Pokemon, but he was here for some training, and he did need to defend himself. Reaching for a Poke Ball, he pressed the button on the capsule, letting out the Pokemon in a flash of light, illuminating the cave.
Aveline floated there, the Honedge taking in the surrounding. She was quite... resolute, she was. She would be, however, a great asset - the Ghost-Type Pokemon would be immune to the Whismur's famous Hyper Voice attack. It would seem the Sword Pokemon liked the shadows it was surrounded with, and was ready to defend. William always found it amusing how Aveline saw all her fighting as defending, not attacking. "Now, Aveline, start with Sword Dance, go!"
William plugged his ears again as he watched, the Sword Pokemon elegantly spinning and twirling, holding her sheath and using it almost as a sort of sharpening tool. The wild Pokemon attempted to Screech, the sharp sound filling the cave, piercing Will through and making him feel less-than-good. He shook off the feeling - he knew his own Pokemon would be unaffected, thanks to her typing. "Strike, now! Brandish your Sacred Sword, Aveline!" the Golden Knight commanded.
With her edge glowing bright, she swiped forward, and with a clear stroke, as if cutting through the air, she swung, striking against the Normal-Type with the Sacred Sword attack. The force of the attack knocked the Pokemon back - it had tried to dodge, but the Honedge's No Guard Ability allowed the Sword Pokemon to hit, unable to miss. The sheer damage of the attack had almost been enough to completely knock out the Whismur, but in response, the Whismur used quite a desperate move.
Rest.
Not even bothering to get up from its knocked-down state, the Pokemon began quietly snoring away, the wounds on its body visibly healing as it used the restorative move. The Golden Knight was about to keep moving, to let this be the end of the fight, when a huge shockwave ripped from the tiny Pokemon. It wasn't supposed to be able to attack... Sleep Talk? The Golden Knight was shook, but he maintain his footing, barely. It was a good thing that he had his ears still plugged. "It would seem our battle is not yet over, Aveline. Guard up, let us win! Sword Dance twice, and strike valiantly once more!" William encouraged, not sure if he was heard by the Sword Pokemon, what with the violent Hyper Voice that had been released by that Sleep Talk.
But the Ghost-Type quickly began her elegant dance, sharpening her edge as if on a tempo. She did this twice, taking her time, while Hyper Voices and Screeches shook the air around her - William almost worried for the integrity of the cave, but it seemed that the rock was unaffected by the continuous sound waves. By the time she was done, unaffected by the attacks, her edge of her blade, her body, was sharp enough to cut rock. He almost felt bad for letting the attack go through, but she charged forward, her edge glowing a bright blue as she sliced through the air, Sacred Sword piercing and sending the Whismur flying once more.
This time, however, the Golden Knight was pretty sure it had been a clean knock-out. He could tell by the lack of Hyper Voices as he approached the wild Pokemon. "An incredible performance, Aveline, as expected." the Golden Knight commented, a smile on his face as he reached in his bag, pulling out a Sitrus Berry. He carried a lot of these, just in case. Placing it next to the fainted Pokemon, he hoped it would help for its recovery when it woke. With a pep to his step and the Honedge floating beside him, the Golden Knight raised his torch again, prepared to delve forward into the darkness once more.
