You call this Archeology? Vincend did, and he thought it was one of the best things in the world when he got cool stuff from it.
And recently he had been on a real roll: collecting mysterious stones that edged him closer and closer to what he thought was a very interesting discovery that could have changed his understanding of both pokemon and energy in a drastic way. This was a long process, and perhaps Vincent was expecting a lot, but it was still a huge work in progress. Vincent hardly even understood what these stones were, let alone what the energy was and its mysterious relation of pokemon. The professor was, however, getting closer with every stone he found and every minute he researched.
At least he thought he was.
Back Vincent was again to his usual spot, scanner and tools with him and pokemon ready to deal with anything that happened to bother him. Like, you know, angry geodudes or drillbur that he happened to dig up that would want a piece of him. Other than that Vincent didn't see any problems other than finding things like garbage or ancient spittoons that weren't worth the ancient spit that was put in them.
Oh well, time to dig!

Dig Dig Dig . . . What's this?!Congratulations, You've found WISE GLASSES!Looks like another digger lost their glasses in the dig. Lucky you these are just for show, so you can probably sell them off or keep them for yourself to make yourself look smart?

Oh god dammit.
Only five minutes into the dig, and Vincent already had technical difficulties. Well, technical in a sense that it was caused by user error by no fault of the machines or the techniques he used, but simply due to the user themself.
Vincent dropped his glasses.
Now, Vincent was hardly a blind man, but it was indeed quite dark and he could not for the life of himself figure out where the hell he had dropped them. So he did what any wise man would do, and that was use the tools he had been given to find them. By waving his scanner around over the ground, Vincent managed to eventually locate his glasses thankfully, but in the process he wasted a considerable amount of time, as for some odd reason they had wound up quite a distance away from where he swore he had dropped him. Vincent had no idea that his woes were caused by the fact that a pokemon had likely moved the glasses in some attempt to mess with the professor in any way it could. Well, its trick had worked, as Vincent had wasted a good ten minutes in the search for his lenses.
Well, back to digging...

ugh.
Vincent's scanner picked up something not long after he searched for his glasses, and it was something that the scientist was not pleased with. After his many experiences using the scanner, he could already tell what some things were by simply their general shape after an intitial scan, and after a second scan Vincent was proud to say he could almost identify anything. The object this time around was one that Vincent was all to familiar with even on the first scan: A large, deep pot that seemed to be heavy with a somewhat narrow opening at the top that was shaped much like a funnel. It didnt take a genius to figure this one out.
It was ANOTHER ancient Spittoon.
While Vincent was sure such a thing would be bought by some kind of ancient collection maniac for a decent price, he didn't even deem it worth digging up at this point: Vincent HATED being a salesman who tried to pitch things like ancient pottery to maniacs who asked far too many questions about far too many inane things instead of, you know, reading a book. With a growl of disatisfaction, Vincent quietly reset the scanner and began another cycle after cordoning off the area for his scanner so he didn't have the displeasure of finding it again.

Well, this was a whole new level of frustrating.
Afteer another hour of searching, Vincent did indeed find a stone...But upon a cursory inspection after digging it up realized a very fatal flaw with this particular stone. Namely, the fact that it was fake. Yes, it was indeed a very pretty stone that could have been worth a lot of money, but the fact that it was false did not please the scientist in the least. Worse still, there was indication that the stone was not an ancient object, but an item that was recently manufactured then placed underground after the fact.
This indicated to Vincent that there were two things: firstly, that he was not the only one that was aware of these mysterious stones, and that others had reason to search for them. Secondly they had sufficient reason to attempt to falsify these stones in order to throw off an untrained observer. But it was clear this stone was not only fake, but made by human machines or hands. It was a very worrying turn of events, one that actually caught Vincent off guard for several minutes.
When he recovered his composure, he started his scanner again and hoped for the best....

Well, this was displeasing.
After another series of scans, while Vincent did find a stone it was not the stone he was looking for: no, this stone was something a little more mundane, and while it was useful it did not advance his research in any real way. The stone in question was a leaf stone, an evolutionary stone that triggered evolution in certain pokemon when utilized on them. It was a useful item for certain grass-type specialists...but not a particularly useful one for a professor like Vincent, who had no grass types that could benefit from it.
This had been an extremely frustrating dig: as Vincent noticed the scanner power warning indicator come up on his scanner, he realized that the Leaf Stone would have to suffice. As much as he wanted to continue searching for another mysterious stone, it simply wasn't feasable. The scanner did not have the energy, and Vincent could not simply dig randomly in hopes of finding one due to the risk of simply breaking it with the force of any of the heavier digging tools. If anything, finding a broken one would have been far more tragic.
So, packing up his items, Vincent returned to his forward archeology lab and prepared for another run...
