I BET MY LIFE
It had been a very short couple of days since Alex’s fateful battle with that vigilante. Immediately following it she had rushed Marlow to the nearest Pokemon center to get his wounds treated. As soon as that had been finished and Marlow’s leg securely bandaged, the Interpol agent had made a beeline for Interpol’s location in Flash City. There was a dire need for an incident report to be filed, as well as a dossier compiled from what little information she had on the vigilante.
Thanks to her dossier and the man’s high tech suit, one of her superiors gave her contact information for a consultant known to help Interpol when needed. He was a professor who specialized in technology, and luckily for Alex his lab was located in Flash City as well. It was also good for Marlow. The goat was being kept out of his ball for the recovery of his leg, and with so little time having passed he could barely put any weight on it at all. He limped along after his trainer; she kept her pace slower than usual to make sure her injured Pokemon could keep up.
She much preferred this place during the daytime when the neon lights weren’t so glaringly brilliant. Her eyes didn’t have to strain to see past the flashes and illuminations along the streets. The city was very aptly named, and she had to wonder why this professor had decided to locate his work here.
Motives were not something she could investigate without talking to the person in question, so her research into the consultant the night before couldn’t answer her current questions about him. What she did know about him was mostly basic information, though she had found records of quite a few half-siblings.
As she prepared all the information in her head for the meeting, she hoped her superior had contacted this Vincent Pendragon as they said they would. It would be a bit awkward to just show up without the professor having been informed of her arrival.
Checking the directions she had to his lab against her current location, she took a glance around. According to the directions it should be within view. After a moment of searching she spotted the building in question. It lacked the bright lights and signs that were typical of the main bulk of the city, which included the buildings flanking the lab.
With a confident air, she strode up to the door, Marlow at her side. Vincent had had the foresight to have a buzzer system installed for visitors. Alex had no way of knowing if he’d be able to hear a knock at the door, so she gave the button a bit of an extended press before linking her hands behind her back and waiting.

It had been...quite a couple of days, to say the least.
Vincent's work had never been easy to handle. Although he was partially a professor at heart his knowledge was quite vast, and because of that vast knowledge he found himself lacking the bliss of ignorance. With that comforting blanket gone, all that was left was the idea that so much responsibility was resting on Vincent. And it was taking its toll on him rather hard. Vincent looked somewhat pale and sick, as he was likely coming down with some kind of severe exhastion. A trip to the Doctor earlier in the day told him to take it easy, and that was what Vincent was attempting to do at the moment. He simply sat back in the living area of his lab, attempting to watch TV lazily with his Jolteon, Neil, sitting on his lap quietly grooming himself.
Then a ring came from the doorbell. Almost immediately the Dog-like pokemon bolted from Vincent's lap with rather impressive speed, zooming over to the door before sitting next to it impatiently. It was a strange behavior that Vincent had not quite figured out yet about his Jolteon, why it sat with such discipline near the door, but he wasn't about to look into it when he had a lot more important things to worry about. Going over to the door, he quietly opened it slightly as he looked outside, his Jolteon partially sticking its head through a crack in the door to peer at the small skiddo that sat on the doorstep as well.
...Oh. Oh Good. This was Exactly what he needed.
Unbeknowest to the woman at the door, Vincent already knew who she was. The professor had already met her in, shall we say, less than ideal circumstances. Circumstances that he did not want to think about at the moment. For now, the sick genius just wanted to left alone to watch TV. Still, he needed to take care of buisness, and he clearly knew the woman was from interpol (which was likely the reason why she was here)...So this was just an annoyance that Vincent would have to deal with.
"...Can I help you?" Vincent said politely as he could, his voice cracking slightly. The Jolteon at the door looked upward, and let out a little growl of happiness at the new possibility of someone new lavishing attention on it.
Vincent was just hoping to get this over and done with as soon as possible.

I BET MY LIFE
As the door was opened a short ways, Alex was mildly surprised by the appearance of the man that opened the door. He looked rather gaunt, tired, and pale; all in all rather sickly—not something she didn’t expect from a professor. Despite his current obvious condition, the Kalos woman could tell Vincent was a rather attractive male with tousled black hair and sharp eyes. If she’d been in Kalos still she’d have expected a man of his looks to be dressed much more fashionably than his current attire. A black shirt with matching pants, topped off with a white lab coat. Definitely not the sharpest dresser.
“Vincent Pendragon,” it was more statement than question. “I take it my superiors did not notify you I’d be arriving today for consultation on a case?” that was a question. Her voice held a light lilt to it as she spoke, her tone hiding the seriousness of her resolve to gain information. “If the issue that has arisen was not as serious as it is I’d offer to come back at another time.” It was true that the matter was serious, but if Vincent was really not feeling up to consulting at this time she’d understand—the blatant crack in his voice told her it may be difficult to give any lengthy explanations. Still, if there was a chance he’d give her the information she was after even in the condition he was in she was going to take it.
Once finished with her short speech, she kneeled down slightly. It was obvious Vincent’s Pokemon was searching for attention, and Alex was more than happy to oblige. The white haired agent had a very large soft spot for canines. She reached her hand calmly out toward the Jolteon, aiming to give him a scratch behind the ear as her Skiddo did his awkward three-legged shuffle forward. It only took a couple of steps for him to be close enough to sniff at the electric canine.

"Oh yes, My apologies miss Tuomio. No no, do not worry about it: my condition is hardly serious enough to let me turn down what was clearly a serious matter." Vincent replied, suddenly remembering the notification that had come by this morning about an urgent matter that required his input. Even though he knew this was coming, he wanted to hope on some level that it wasn't this particular case, but ultimately from what he saw he could indeed surmise this was why the woman had stopped by. That being said, the least he could do is accomidate her despite the inconvenience of not using a phone to contact him in that regard.
As Vincent opened the door, His Jolteon rather happily hopped out the door, pushing his head into the young agent's hand as she reached to pet him before attempting to rub his soft, spikey shaped fur along her leg. Followed almost immediately by jumping up, paws reaching up with a whine for attention and a desire to be picked up: a trait he inherited from his days as an Eevee (though his current weight made it only slightly more difficult, but not impossible). Neil was a softy for attention, particularly from women. A note that Pendragon was very aware of about his rather peculiar and beloved pokemon. While that was happening, his other pokemon that was not currently in the play and rest area, an Eevee by the name of Mina, quietly snuck her way out through Vincent's legs and the crack in the door to greet the agent's pokemon: the limping skiddo. A couple quiet sniffs from the normally shy yet sweet Mina was the initial greeting, before she quietly went and sat beside the skiddo, almost as if to wait in case the Skiddo in question accidentally fell over so that Mina could catch her. It was the kind of thing that Mina had an instinct to do: Vincent did not quite know why, but it was the female Eevee's little loving quirk to try and take care of other pokemon. With his pokemon quickly attempting to be some kind of welcoming party to his guests, Vincent elected to try and get the woman inside before the Eevee-types overwhelmed her any more.
"Oh, my apologies, my Eevees tend to be very assertive about getting attention. I hope it isn't a problem, here, come inside." Vincent said in a rather pleasant voice despite his condition, opening the door and offering the agent and her Pokemon entry into his home so they could further discuss the issue that they needed to discuss.

I BET MY LIFE
Alex gave a nod in reply to Vincent’s acceptance to help. It didn’t bother her that he’d forgotten about her arriving today. Illness tended to make memory foggy, a fact she normally combated with tea when she needed to work while under the weather. She could easily forgive any forgetfulness from the professor today; though she’d likely try to touch base with him once his condition improved to make sure there wasn’t any information he’d missed giving her.
A rather soft smile crossed her face at the Jolteon’s antics for attention. There was no real explanation for her love of dogs, but she really had no desire to try and explain it. She was perfectly content to just know she liked them and was more than willing to lavish attention on any that wanted it. It was little effort for her to heft the Jolteon up, giving in to his begging. The sleeves of her jacket easily hid the strength her muscles held. She preferred long sleeves for that reason. Suspects would vainly believe she was an average woman, then get clocked in the jaw hard enough to make their heads spin.
Marlow was happy to keep the attention of the Eevee on him. It wasn’t often that he found a Pokemon so much smaller than he was. With his leg in its current condition he couldn’t play with Polizi or Ty. Polizi was too big and Ty was strong despite her smaller size, and he knew Alex didn’t want either of them accidentally hurting him by playing rough. Since this canine was even smaller than Ty, he might just have a play mate! He bleated happily as she sat down next to him.
“Oh it is no trouble. I quite like canines,” Alex spoke with a clear undertone of glee in her voice, giving the Jolteon in her arms a chin scratch before following Vincent inside. Her Skiddo limped along right behind her, his own spirits high despite his ambling.

As Vincent let Alexis into the house, he could not help but notice the happy little look on his Jolteon's face. It wasn't often that the Jolteon could be on anyones lap easily, let alone get the attention of being picked up. As Neil let out a little happy growl, he turned to give Alexis face a quick little lick: a sign of his immediate affection for the lady that was willing to put up with holding him. Meanwhile, down near the floor Mina was quietly following the limping Skiddo, almost as if she was watching her fellow pokemon in case it stumbled. Vincent quietly showed Alexis over to his living area, which was currently a bit of a mess with papers and a laptop in front of him from his earlier work.
"I apologize for the mess: I've been very busy as of late." Vincent explained. "I've been researching a couple of different developments and also studying for a recertification exam as well. A life of science is a life of busywork, especially when I care for as many pokemon as I do. I'm glad Neil seems to have become so friendly with you though: Normally hes quite mischevious, but he seems to just love your attention. You must have a knack with that kind of Pokemon." Vincent surmised. As he did, the Jolteon in Alexis arms shifted, placing its front paws on her shoulder, allowing the woman to hold the somewhat middle-sized pokemon with greater ease as it rested its head on her shoulder. The Jolteon quietly gave Alexis cheek an affirming little lick, perhaps as some kind of reward for picking him up. It was very clear that the Jolteon was very, very happy with this current situation.
"My apologies though...I'm getting a little ahead of myself, you came here for what I can assume are much more important things than small talk." Vincent said, pausing to cough dryly for a second. "I didn't even get your name and properly introduce myself! I'm obviously Vincent. Vincent Pendragon. Although your name was likely on the report I'm afraid to say I didn't quite remember it. To whom do I have the pleasure of meeting?" Vincent said, extending his hand to offer the young lady a handshake.

I BET MY LIFE
Alex didn’t mind the lick to the face as she followed Vincent inside. She was quite used to it from her own canine when they were off duty. Inside was relatively in line with what Alex expected to see. The tech specialists at Interpol’s headquarters tended to have the same level of clutter going on at each of their desks, and sometimes communal clutter of their entire division. One or two tended to be obsessive about the organization of the workspace; she often enjoyed going down there during coffee breaks to see if there were going to be any tussles break out due to one of the obsessive one’s desks getting cluttered up by someone else.
“I am sure if I worked out of my own home it would be much more cluttered than it currently is. Things tend to stay rather neat when you are away from home often,” she nodded in understanding, light from the laptop screen glinting off her hair. A sudden curiosity came over her as she glanced at the laptop, her fingers itching to crack into it. It had been some time since she’d needed to break any kind of encryption on a computer, and Alex found herself rather wanting to have a chance to do that again. Instead she put her itching fingers to work scratching the electric canine between the shoulder blades, eliciting another lick to her cheek as he settled his head on her shoulder. “I have always been good with canines, even growing up in Kalos.” Her voice had a hint of wistfulness to it as she remembered her old neighbor’s Granbull and how it wouldn’t listen to anyone but her when it got loose.
Vincent’s coughing elicited a quirked eyebrow from the Interpol agent. She let it slide as he spoke though, idly nodding her head ever so slightly. “Yes, I know who you are quite well though. I take it upon myself to find out as much as I can about potential contacts; especially for this serious of a case.” Shifting the Jolteon’s weight so she could keep him up with one arm, Alex took Vincent’s hand and gave it a firm shake, “My name is Alex Tuomio, and this,” she motioned at the Skiddo that had limped along after her as the entered the building, “is Marlow. I would have him in his ball, but as you can see he is currently recovering from a rather serious injury and needs to gradually put more weight on it so it can heal properly.” It was common practice in her home town to keep recovering Pokemon outside of their confinements. The fresh air and exercise, while never officially tested, had proved throughout the years to improve their natural healing abilities. She had run across a few trainers who refused to leave recovering Pokemon out, and Alex had confirmed at least one of them ended up with a lame Ponyta because of it. Marlow was already doing remarkably well considering how little time had passed since the injury was sustained.

The professor listened intently as his Jolteon sat in one of the young agent woman's arms, clearly very happy with the situation. As she held him, the Jolteon quietly got more and more comfortable, settling its weight on the young woman's shoulder more and more. It was further proof of Neil's seeming ability to get comfortable almost anywhere. The scratching between the Jolteon's shoulder blades courtesy of the agent only made the jolteon more comfortable. Vincent hoped the woman didn't get too fed up with Neil: once he picked a spot he wanted to stay, the little spikey pup wouldn't move unless he was forced to. Long, pointed ears visibly relaxed as the electric type quietly closed its eyes, hoping to sneak in a nap in this wonderful new place he had found.
Meanwhile, The professor nodded as he took in the information the woman spoke of and made a note of her little limping Skiddo. "Ah, I see. Its a good practice to keep the little guy exercised, but try to not go too hard on him: when a quadrapedal pokemon has an injury like that, it can be very stressful on their back to have only three optimal legs. Make sure to give him time to rest properly." Vincent said, giving the little Skiddo a quick looking over. Meanwhile, his eevee Mina seemed to still be hovering nearby the small skiddo, quietly giving the injured and bandaged leg of the pokemon a quick, light lick. It wasn't uncommon of Mina to give such care to other injured pokemon: when Zewie had still been a Deino, Mina was one of the only pokemon able to get near her to help clean wounds with those gentle licks. Even Vincent had trouble initially with such a fiesty dragon pokemon.
"At any rate, I suppose we should get down to business..." Vincent began, quietly indicating over to a rather comfortable looking recliner chair near his table, across from his couch where the computer was pointed to him. "Please, if you would be so kind go over the details of the case with me while I pull up the information. Lets see where we can begin to figure out whatever the problem is."

“He goes at his own pace,” she quipped before adjusting her hold on Neil. Shifting him from her shoulder to her lap as she sat down, Alex settled herself before giving the canine another scratch between his ears. Keeping her hands busy with petting the Jolteon would help her focus her thoughts and give a clear picture of the events that unfolded during her encounter with the vigilante.
Her tone taking on the seriousness her lilt had masked before, she spoke, “The events of the encounter itself would likely be the best place to start as there is less hard evidence for my observations about the vigilante I battled himself.” Pulling a rather bulky packet of papers from her jacket, she slid them across the table toward Vincent. “That is a copy of the full report I made on the incident. It should serve as a good reference if you have any questions. I tend to inadvertently miss some details when giving oral reports on events.”
It was true that her observations were based solely on guesswork and assumption based on what she saw during the battle, but there was still no hard evidence to support them. She could only make speculations about anything aside from the events that took place. Speculations that made a good basis to start an investigation, they were not something she was comfortable with making solid conclusions on. “The incident began when I was making my way through the darker parts of Flash City, off duty from my job, and noticed a flash of surging electricity from a nearby warehouse. Entering the building to investigate the cause, I found a subdued and bound group of people being held in a room full of highly damaged computers. The vigilante later confirmed they were hackers he subdued.” She paused a moment, her eyes hiding some annoyance at herself with her next statement, “I let my guard down to examine the burnt out computers, and that is when he got the drop on me. He kept the way out of the server room blocked, and used a Gallade he referred to as ‘Knight’ to put my Furfrou to sleep.
After that I sent out my Mawile and for a while it seemed the battle had turned in my favor. He recalled his Gallade and sent out a Ferrothorn. He did not call the Pokemon by any name, but it was obvious by the way he started off the next part of the battle that his goal was to force myself and my Pokemon back; likely to give himself a chance to escape.
I switched Marlow out to battle, and instead of directly focusing on the obviously much larger Pokemon I had him go directly after the vigilante. Once again the battle seemed to swing in my favor, one of Marlow’s attacks even managing to damage the suit he wore. He was able to escape after injuring Marlow, flat out refusing to battle as I rushed to get to my Pokemon.” She stopped for a moment to catch her breath and recollect her thoughts, the memory of seeing her Skiddo injured rattling her slightly.
Marlow was definitely beginning to enjoy the caring Eevee’s company, even if they were not playing. As the two humans settled in to talk however, the goat was bound and determined to get some play time in. Turning to the fluffy canine, he lowered his head and gave her a soft nudge to the shoulder before doing an awkward prance away. He was trying to goad her into chasing him, as that is how he was accustomed to playing with the other Pokemon he lived with.

As the interpol agent slid the stack of papers across the table to Vincent, he quietly grasped them and began to skim through them as he spoke, a clear look of surprise beginning to cross his features as he both listened to the agent and looked over the notes, but not for the reason that his ally across the table suspected.
Her notes on Viy's combat style were downright frighteningly astute. She was effectively able to recall the whole battle, both on paper and and through her words, with startling clarity. Moreover, she did have an accurate guess that the expansion suit was the mechanism for Viy's frightening superhuman abilities. This was deeply concerning to Vincent: he was likely sitting across the table from the greatest threat to his anonymous work yet, and she didn't even know it.
"Deflected an attack with a single, massive cut? Nearly blocked the entire salvo of a razor leaf attack with sword swings?" Vincent mused to himself, still sounding quite shocked. "Agent, please forgive me for being blunt and possibly rude, but this sounds almost unbelievable. Yet the look on your face and the description in the report makes it undeniable: Whoever this man was he certainly had abilities that are not human, possibly given to him by the suit...But I've never heard of anything like this in practical application. Theoretical work, yes, but..." Vincent started, pausing for a moment before he realized he had to explain what he meant to the agent across from him.
"Its been hypothesized quite a lot among scientists that ability enchancement for humans in the form of suits was a possibility, but we've only made minor strides in that area: ceramic armors and hazmat armors for interpol agents, and I heard that a think tank in Nue was working on a specialized muscle suit, but if what I'm reading here is true, then this completely blows anything out of the water that the community even dreamed of. The question is how did this person get a hold of such technology, and where the hell did it come from?" Vincent postulated to himself, scratching his head in apparent disbelief.
"Agent, the only think I can think to ask is if there were any kind of identifying markings you could see: anything out of the ordinary about the suit that might indicate as to its nature or anything of the sort? Even the slightest detail could make a huge difference in...Well anything." Vincent inquired.

The agent listened quietly as the professor made comments on the details of the battle. She completely understood the look of surprise on his face given the rather outlandish account, but her story would not change about the events that transpired. Her report was completely accurate and thorough, and even her superiors could not deny the facts based on how incredible it seemed.
It was heartening to hear that the technology behind the suit had been theorized by known groups before. That was a good place to start to try and track down anyone who may have taken the idea beyond the hypothesis stage and into actual testing. What that meant for obtaining a way to effectively combat the suit and Pokemon simultaneously was another matter entirely. Alex was quite sure even if she found the person who had constructed the suit it would be highly unlikely they’d be willing to make another one for use against the vigilante. She had to come up with some other plan as contingency for that.
“Ah, the last pages of the report cover that. Full descriptions of the vigilante and his Pokemon I saw, including full colored sketches of their appearances.” Alex nodded as she finished speaking. It was one of her odd talents she managed to find a use for with her job. If she was not as good of an agent as she was she would likely have become a police sketch artist, though just doing that would not have given her as much satisfaction as actually apprehending the criminals her job presented her with. “There should also be a smaller inset image showing what the damage to the suit appeared as after it was hit by the Razor Leaf attack. Aside from that I am afraid the suit itself was rather nondescript. It lacked any markings identifying the creator or company it could have been designed for.”
Post by Vincent Pendragon on Jun 27, 2015 12:22:12 GMT -5
Vincent quietly flipped to the back of the report, something he had apparently neglected to do his first time around. His eyes narrowed as he looked at the various articulations and details on the suit. Damn, this woman was dangerous. She had almost gotten it down to every detail. If she had the engineering knowledge required she could have likely even reverse engineered the surface technology with enough analysis. It was, quite frankly, downright frightening.
"...Agent Tuomio, I need to correct you: no company could have designed this. It would be a financial nightmare to implement in any form. That is what is so crazy about this: Nothing of the sort of thing I'm seeing here could have left the hypothetical stages of a blackboard." The professor began only moments after looking over the image of the suit. "Even I only understand the theoretical functions of how something this incredibly advanced could work." Vincent continued, taking off his glasses and rubbing his face for a moment as illness swept over him. "And even then that would be me in prime condition. For now, let me see what I can tell you though: I would guess it uses specialized, articulated artificial muscle , as you can see over the arms, legs and torso, attached to some kind of basic framework to provide the strength and movement of the suit without killing or injuring its occupant from the forces of movement. You can see parts of the frame here on the shoulders: Likely those points are the strongest attachment points on the entire framework-" Vincent began, taking off his glasses for a moment as he realized he might need to simplify the concept.
"...Basically, if this is what it looks like, the suit is designed to act like a second set of muscles on the body. Now, in order for muscles to work, they need to be attached and pulling on something to move around: otherwise they would just tense up pointlessly. So the question we need to ask if we want to disable this thing is which is more vulnerable: the muscles or what they attach to. If I had been able to see the precise damage you had inflicted beyond a simple diagram I might be able to answer that question, but for the moment that is the question I need to investigate. Dealing with this...this abomination is a puzzle: only we're working in reverse. We need to take out the pieces in the right order and hopefully take it apart piece by piece." The professor stated.
"Its my job to figure that out. I'll need you and interpol to get more information, but with this maybe I can come up with something to at least allow you to fight back somehow. Give me 24 hours...I'll see if I can't attempt to replicate something in a computer similar to what I see here and find out what makes it tick."

I BET MY LIFE
“Obviously someone was able to finance its creation,” Alex retorted with a slightly terse edge to her voice. Something like this suit could not have materialized out of thin air, so there had either been a theft of materials or some very large sums of cash being exchanged under the table by a private investor or large company for it to exist. The fact it did exist was obvious to the agent; she had seen it in action with her own eyes. For someone to flat out deny its existence would mean calling her a liar in the same breath. Alex did not go into a full on tirade though, as she could see the professor was clearly still not feeling well. It was really the only thing that kept her from making more of a comment.
Instead she quietly listened to the rest of what he had to say, keeping herself calm despite the clear tenseness her posture had taken on. She was rather disheartened by his statement of inability to recreate the suit. It had been her hope that there was a chance to make another one she could use to go toe to toe with the vigilante. There was at least some hope still of being able to combat the suit’s abilities. It was not what Alex had hoped it would be though; tearing down the suit’s ability to function seemed more tedious than just taking him on directly. She also had a feeling it would require the help of Pokemon to do, and that would mean putting her team into direct combat again to guarantee a precise hit. That was out of the question at their current state, and it would take a lot of training for them to be actually be ready for that kind of attack. Considering how quickly the end of the battle had been, Alex was certain she had any advantage because she caught him off guard. That kind of trick didn’t work more than once.
She quirked an eyebrow at him at his mention of just needing a day. His condition seemed a bit more strenuous than that amount of time hinted at. “Just a day? Are you sure you can manage that in your condition?” There was actual concern in the agent’s voice, though it was more concern for the results he stated he could come up with in that time. She had just met him, so her concern for his health was due more to politeness than familiarity. It was something the woman hoped he would not hold against her; her nature did not really allow for quick bonds with acquaintances.

(Autoing of Skiddo done with permission)
"...Obviously you are very correct. Thats what worries me." Vincent responded almost somberly to agent Tuomio's point.
Meanwhile, despite the somberness of their conversation two of their pokemon seemed to be playing quite a bit: over the past few minutes Mina had been rather happily running and bouncing about the room like an excited kitten, playing a form of chase/tag with the Skiddo that had quickly become her friend. Mina had an advantage in that she could fit into little shortcuts that the Skiddo could not (like behind the couch), but she had still been slowing down in somewhat of the spirit of fairness due to the Skiddo's current speed-hindered state. After a few minutes of this, The Skiddo clearly needed a tiny break, as it plopped down on the floor near its master. Mina playfully hopped over before quietly plopping down next to the Skiddo to groom herself in the seemingly regal manner she was used to. Meanwhile, Neil himself had moved from being held to simply sprawling across Alexis lap, belly up as he looked for attention in the form of belly rubs. the Agent seemed to be a big hit with Vincent's eevees.
"Yeah...I should be able to if this damn exhaustion lets up. I've been doing some research over the past few days thats been very demanding, so my apologies if I don't seem up to the task, but I promise you I will give you something soon. I just need a couple hours to get my focus back." Vincent responded, trying to hide his uncertainty about his condition as best as he could.
