Honestly, Josh was getting kind of tired of this.
How many passes did he have to waste for one little pig? This was his fourth time coming into this one area, with one goal in mind. But still, it had managed to elude him. Had the bacon already cooked itself and ate itself? Who knows? All Josh knew was that he was climbing up this mountain again, wasting more good money, again, to try and hunt this thing down. He was growing a... Liiitle bit irritated, but his fortitude was admirable. How many people would have just given up by now? Well, Josh hadn't. Unfortunately.
With a rather miffed Lightning walking by his side, the two would get to work on climbing the mountain. Would this be their lucky break? Or was it time to just give up and hope that Izumi found it the next time that Josh's... Companion, decided to come down here?

The blonde let out a sigh as they continued to climb, and climb, and climb. They would pass a Kangaskhan, who was nursing her young. Josh remembered his own mama monster hanging out at the ranch, one of his earlier 'mons who had taken a caretaker role for some of his younger Pokemon. He wondered if he should take her out for a battle sometime... She hadn't been tested in combat, and Josh had been content to let her fulfill her other roles, which she also seemed content to fulfill. But branching out was always nice, he supposed...
The blonde haired Pokemon Trainer decided to take a different path this time. Around the bend, past the rocks, up a different side of the mountain. Perhaps... Would he find different types of Pokemon around here? Perhaps that had been his problem all along? He just needed to look hard enough, needed to look harder, in different places...

Josh recalled the first time he had come to this particular zone, hunting Tepig. No other Pokemon in particular, just Tepig. The piece of bacon that could cook itself. He'd found a certain set of Pokemon, but none were Tepig. He went again. What did he find? The exact same Pokemon almost, besides a Torchic. Of course, he already owned one. But he and the little bugger had ended up going through a lot together during a rock slide. He couldn't resist keeping the little bugger.
The next one was unfortunate. Again, all the same Pokemon... And he thought he had finally found Tepig. But in the end, it was just a mute Ditto that he later sold to Vesta so the damn thing wouldn't dick with him again.
He noticed a Druddigon from the corner of eye... New Pokemon, yes, but no dice... Still not what he was looking for. He and Lightning would continue their climb, but they were beginning to tire... Was it time to give up?

At this point, Josh had just about given up. For some reason, he was cursed. He didn't understand why, or how. But he had sunk endless amounts of money, endless amounts of time and effort into trying to find just one Tepig... And somehow, he never seemed to find one. FOUR Safari Tags, he thought. FOUR Safari Balls, he thought. All wasted trying to find a GOD. FORSAKEN. TEPIG.
The top of the mountain had arrived, and Josh was done. Just done. Just plain god forsaken done. He was ready to give up. He and Lightning would flop onto the grassy ground on the top of the mountain. "Gah... I give uuuup... We're cursed, Lightning... We're never gonna find Tepig... Fuuuuck iiiiit...." He would groan.
"Tepig!"
"Yeah, that Pokemon, Lightning... Tepi-"
Wait.
Did he say Tepig?
Pikachu's didn't say "Tepig". They say "Pikachu". Then what the hell was...
Josh would peer over, and he saw something he thought he would never see. A Tepig, staring at them from not too far away. And it didn't have those weird Ditto eyes either... This was a real, true, actual Tepig!
TEEEEEEEEEEPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG!
The curse was over! Josh was about ready to jump for joy! He would manage to get up, the joy in his eyes evident as he walked over and knelled near the Tepig.
"Hey, little buddy. We've been looking for someone with your talents to join our team. What do you say?" He would ask the Tepig with a smile. The Tepig, of course, was getting kind of tired of being slighted by everyone who came by, wanting other Pokemon instead... While it didn't seem to say so, this Tepig didn't wanna be alone anymore. It wanted someone to take care of it. But... It's pride wouldn't allow it to just let this Trainer nab him.
The Tepig would nod, before he would brush his legs against the ground, indicating something towards Lightning. Tepig wanted a battle! "Alright then! Go-"
Suddenly one of his Pokeballs would open, bringing out Terry, Josh's Treecko! "Treecko!" Terry would let out as he would let himself out. "Terry?" Josh let out. He wasn't expecting his Treecko to let himself out like that... "Treecko, Treek!" He would call toward Josh, pointing toward the Tepig. "Do you... Want to battle?" Josh would ask the Treecko, who would nod. He smirked faintly. He liked Terry's enthusiasm... He supposed it was time for their first battle together, the Treecko had waited long enough. "Alright Terry!" Josh said as he would point toward Tepig, who seemed excited at the prospect of a challenge. "You might have the type disadvantage, but if you think you can pull this off, I believe in you!" Josh would encourage toward the Treecko. "You have first move, Tepig. Make it count" Josh said, daring the Tepig to attack. Tepig would oblige, suddenly curling into a ball and using Defense Curl! "Defense Curl?" Josh would ask, tilting his head... Before suddenly the ball would start rolling toward Treecko! Rollout!
Gah! "Terry! Be careful!" Josh would call as the Treecko would leap up, barely dodging the first run. But Tepig was coming back! "Use Scratch, try and stop Tepig in it's tracks!" Josh would suggest. "Treecko!" Terry would let out as he would try to leap at and scratch the rolling Tepig, but would be sent back by the force and momentum that Tepig carried.
That was enough for the battle to suddenly pick up.
Terry wasn't going to take that lying down, and would leap into the air, Tepig going after him. Tepig would curl back into the ball, going for a mid-air Rollout while Josh would call for Terry to use Pound. Terry would quickly swing his tail down on the upward rising Tepig, and both parties would bounce back. But it wouldn't deter them at all as they would come in again for a Rollout and a Pound, tail hitting ball again as they would mercilessly strike at one another. The fighting spirit of both Tepig and Terry was admirable, Josh thought to himself... Tepig would be a worthy part of the team. And Terry... Well, Terry was showing something that Josh never thought he had seen in the Treecko before. A fighting spirit, a willingness to win, a desire to succeed... A desire, a lust for battle. "Scratch!" Josh would call as they would both land, and Terry would strike first, launching himself toward the Tepig and landing a few instances of Scratch. Tepig would rear back before attacking right back, throwing himself at the Treecko. It wasn't an attack, but the Tepig wasn't going to lose so easily! The both of them would skid back, breathing heavily. They weren't going to give up... Neither of them were going to give an inch! "Quick, go for Pound!" Josh would call towards Terry, who would leap into the air and ready himself to bring his tail down on Tepig. What they hadn't been expecting though, was for Tepig to suddenly be engulfed in an aura of fire, before launching himself into the air towards Terry. Of course, Terry wasn't going to give up, and would attack anyway as both Pokemon's attacks would collide!
A large cloud of smoke would erupt in the air as they would collide, sending both Pokemon slamming to the ground. They would both manage to get up, shakily... Each Pokemon trying their hardest to stay on their feet. Finally, Terry would fall to one knee... "Terry!" Josh would call, trying to encourage the Treecko, who was fighting with all his heart to stay up! He had to! He couldn't lose! He would. Not. Lose!
Tepig had been fighting with all of his little heart to stay up. He was tired of being overlooked, he needed to prove himself! But his strength ebbed... And finally, the little Tepig would fall over, onto his side. And as the little baconater collapsed, in his final moments before he would pass out... The Tepig would manage to get out a smile.
He had found what he was looking for.
The Treecko couldn't help but grin at his victory. As for Josh? He was thrilled about Terry's win, and that he was going to gain such a determined Pokemon, while also discovering the skill of his own. "You've earned this, Tepig. Welcome to the family" Josh said as he would toss the Safari Ball at Tepig.
