With the new year upon them, and winter starting to set in, Josh felt it was a good time to see how many freezing forest critters he could "rescue" from the forest and add to his team. Sure, there were Pokemon in particular that the blonde was looking for, but he wasn't stingy on trying to give a good home to whatever Pokemon he could. The blonde and his partner, his Pikachu, Lightning, walked gingerly through the forest, decked out in winter gear. Even the Pikachu. Seriously, Lightning had the cutest little tiny jacket on that could have probably fit on a toddler. But he didn't seem to mind, the Pikachu was quite... Cozy, actually.
Josh's gaze went to the trees, wondering just where wild Pokemon might be hiding. He was in a catching mood, and was raring for battle. He just hoped that they didn't run into any serious trouble...

As they walked, Josh suddenly felt something hit his head. What in the world was that? "Hey!" Josh let out as he looked up, finding the source of the String Shot, which he brushed out of his hair. A Wurmple would let out a fit of giggles, showing that the mischievous Wurmple was the cause. Josh smirked faintly. Well, if it wanted his attention so badly...
"Let's give it something to shoot at, shall we Lightning?" Josh would ask the Pikachu, who would nod as Josh took out a Pokeball. "Go, Rex!" Josh called as he would bring out his Pupitar. "Pupitar!" Rex let out as he was brought out. "Use Stone Edge to bring it down to us!" Josh would command. "Pupitar!" Rex would respond as he would summon sharp stones spinning around it, before firing them at the Wurmple. It would snap the tree branch the Wurmple was on, as well as hitting it and bringing it down to them. Wurmple seemed ready for battle, as it would go for a Tackle!
"Meet it head on and go for Crunch!" Josh would call. Rex would charge, floating toward the Wurmple full speed as the two forces would collide, with both attacks hitting, but the Crunch attack had more power, sending Wurmple rolling back, with a small amount of damage to Josh's Pupitar. Wurmple, as stubborn as it was, would quickly manage to get up and go for String Shot, wrapping the string around Rex. "Hmm... How can we.." Josh whispered to himself. "That's it. Use Stone Edge to cut the silk!" Josh called over to Rex.
"Pupitar!" Rex would let out as he would summon the sharp rocks again, the sharp edges of them cutting the silk around it, before firing it at the Wurmple, who didn't see it coming, sending it back again. But it wasn't long before it was up and would charge for Bug Bite!
"Counter it with Earthquake!" Josh called. The Pupitar would stomp the ground, causing a shockwave that would head Wurmple dead on, hitting it hard. The powerful attack was too much for Wurmple, and it would remain prone, stunned. "Finish it with Rock Slide!" Josh would command. The Pupitar would nod, and portals would open up as large rocks would land on and crash against the Wurmple, taking it down for good this time.
Josh admired Rex's power as of late. It was obvious that the training was beginning to seriously pay off. He would nod at the Pupitar and toss a Pokeball at Wurmple.

Josh would nod at the Pokeball would click and disappear. "Welp, that's one down" Josh said, seeming pleased with the result. A Wurmple, while seemingly weak at first, had an incredible evolution line. One that Josh looked forward to exploring in time. "Alright" Josh said as he would return Rex to his Pokeball. "Great job, Rex. Return" He said before he would nod over to Lightning as they trudged on. Eventually, they would come to a large tree with a large hole in the trunk. Kind of like a-
Anyway! Josh and Lightning would curiously peek into the hole, curious as to if there was any Pokemon in there. What Josh found though, surprised him. It was a Togepi, young by the looks of it, shivering. Alone. The poor thing was obviously freezing. "Aww..." Josh muttered. Right there, his heart melted. He would look around, before looking back at the Togepi. "Hey, where's your mother?" He would ask the Togepi softly. "Toge..." It would whimper, seeming to indicate that it had no idea. Josh would let out a sigh, and pick it up. The Togepi would flinch in fear, but it would calm down as Josh wrapped it in his arms, trying to warm it best he could. "There, there... Hey... I'm here..." He whispered against it. The Togepi would eventually calm down, and fall asleep. Deciding it needed to get warm, Josh would rush through the forest, trying to find a way home. Unfortunately, it was quite a ways away, but what he did find was a little cabin. It seemed to be uninhabited, likely left there for wayward travelers. Josh would let himself in..
A few hours passed, and Josh had gotten some tea ready by the time Togepi woke up. "Hey little guy" Josh said as he would kneel down near the bed that he had tucked the freezing Togepi into. "Take a drink, it'll warm you right up" He offered as he would tip the cup near the Togepi's lips, making sure it drank correctly. "Toge Toge!" The Togepi would let out, seeming thrilled as the color would begin to return to it's face. Josh smiled warmly. "Hey, you're looking better already!" He said, before looking back at Lightning. "Hey, Lightning? Can you grab those berries from my pack that I brought just in case? Something tells me Togepi is hungry" He said.
As if on cue, something started growling. Coming from Togepi. Josh would look over to see the Togepi patting it's stomach with disappointment. Seems he was right after all! The blonde laughed a bit, before Lightning would hand him a few Oran Berries. "Here, eat these. They'll help you recover your strength, and fill you right up as well" He said as the Togepi would eat them, one at a time. "Pweeee!" The Togepi would let out joyfully as it would eat one after the other. "Well, he certainly seems happy" Josh said, before looking at Lightning. "Hey... You know, it's cold this season. And the poor thing doesn't seem to have it's mother... You think something happened to her?" He would ask Lightning. Lightning would freeze up, having had a similar, although more traumatizing experience with his own mother... Josh sighed and patted his head. "Sorry, Lightning. I know. But... It'd be wrong to leave it out in the cold, wouldn't it?" Josh asked him. "Pika" Lightning responded with a nod. Josh would pull out an empty Pokeball, looking from it, to the Togepi...

The blonde would shake his head. "No, not yet" He said quietly. He doubted the Togepi trusted him just yet. Not enough to join his team willingly. He would sigh and put the Pokeball away, looking over at the Togepi who would just finish his food. Josh would look out the window. The snow had cleared up a bit, and it'd gotten a bit warmer. He smirked faintly. "Hey, why don't we go play tag?" He would ask the Togepi. "Togi-pwwwwwwweeee!" Toegepi would let out by the sound of that, seeming thrilled at the prospect of playing, even if it didn't know what tag was.
After a good half hour spent explaining the concepts, several of Josh's Pokemon were stationed outside in a line. Lightning (Pikachu), Max (Growlithe), Gustave (Bulbasaur), Rex (Pupitar), Lamorak (Prinplup), and of course, Lancelott (Dewott). At the end of the line was Togepi. "Alright, the question is... Who's it?" Josh would ask. The Pokemon would all shake their heads, citing "Not me!" Each. Josh would sigh. "Welp... Eeny meenie mieny mo..." He began, going from Pokemon to Pokemon... "Gustave, you're it!" He said. "Bulba!" Gustave would let out in shock. The other Pokemon would begin running, and the Bulbasaur would take off after them. Unfortunately, Gustave wasn't as fast as some of the other Pokemon, but he had a secret weapon...
Lamorak was running ahead of Gustave, who he was chasing after. Suddenly, Gustave's vines would come out of his bulb and whack Lamorak, causing him to tumble. Looks like Lamorak was "It". "PRIMP-LUP-LUP-LUP!" Lamorak would protest, and Lancelott would emerge from his hiding spot, pointing and laughing at the Primplup. The Primplup wouldn't take that, and would walk over and smack Lancelott, who was now "It". "Dewott!" Lancelott would let out angrily, before smacking the Primplup, trading the "It" back. One would smack the other back, and this would turn into a slap fight until Josh stepped in. "Alright you two, break it up" Josh said. The Primplup, who was it, would then turn and tap the Togepi, who had come nearby to see the commotion, tagging it, before it ran off. Lancelott stayed for a moment, but ran too. The Togepi would stare into the distance, not knowing what to do. Josh smiled a bit and pointed toward where Lamorak had ran. "Just go tag one of them. Any one of them is fair game" He said. "Togi!" The Togepi would let out as it would briskly trot in that direction.
The Primplup had managed to climb a tree, hiding from the Togepi. With Lancelott right beside him, the two glaring at one another. Suddenly, the Togepi would emerge from a hole in the tree and tag Lamorak! "Togi-Togi-Togi!" Togepi would let out. "PRIMP?!" Lamorak let out as he froze. That did NOT just happen! Josh, who was walking from under them, would see this and start laughing...
Hours passed, and it was starting to get cold again as it started to get dark. They would have to go home soon, leaving their new friend behind. The group had stopped for a picnic in the middle of the forest before they went home. Lightning would tug at Josh's shirt and point toward the Togepi, who was happily trying a sandwich. "Pika-chuu..." Lightning whined, pointing toward the Pokeball Josh had intended for Togepi. It seemed Lightning had gotten attached to their new friend, and didn't want to say goodbye! "Hm?" Josh let out as Lightning would point toward Togepi, then the Pokeball. "Pika!" Lightning almost begged. Josh took a breath and took out the Pokeball, looking at Togepi. "Ah... I understand" He said quietly. "Hey Togepi?" Josh would ask as the Togepi would look over at them.
"... How would you like to come home with us? I think you'd love it at the ranch, and you'd get to play with your friends all the time" He said with a warm smile.

The Togepi would pause for a moment, seeming to consider this sentiment. He looked around at all the new friends he made, and considered the fact that he would be alone otherwise... The choice was obvious.
"Togi-Pweee!" Togepi let out, leaping toward the Pokeball. It would open, absorbing the egg Pokemon in. Within a few moments it would click, and Josh would grin wide. "Alright, we caught Togepi!" Josh exclaimed, and the other Pokemon would cheer happily. They had all gotten to know Togepi over time, and were happy that it had decided to join them. Afterword, they'd decided to head home, to give Togepi a proper welcome....
The next day, Josh had decided to traverse through the forest again. It was nearing months end and Josh's Catching License was due to be renewed soon. Thus, he'd decided to try and grab as many as he could to take advantage of the limits resetting. He had a different team with him this time, and was determined to find what he could.

Josh would look up, just in time to dodge the String Shot from another Wurmple. What the hell was up with Wurmples and shooting string at him from the trees? "Alright, that's it, no more Mr. Nice Guy" Josh said as he would take out a Pokeball. "Go, Valor!" Josh let out as he would bring out his Snorunt. "Snooooo!" Valor let out as he would look up at the cheeky Wurmple. Here we go again.
"Ice Shard!" Josh would call, pointing toward Wurmple. "Snooo!" Valor let out as he would unleash sharp shards of ice toward Wurmple, sending it flying off the branch. This one, though, would use String Shot to swing itself onto another branch, before firing off Poison Sting at the Snorunt. "Dodge, quick!" Josh called as the Snorunt would hop to the side, dodging the attack. He would hop to the side and to another as Wurmple would go for Poison Sting after Poison Sting, almost like a dance, a dodging dance. Actually, that might be a decent idea of what to call it...
"Dodging Dance!" Josh would call out to see how it worked as Wurmple went for String Shot from the branches. The Snorunt would slide to the left, to dodge one. Slide to the right to dodge another. Josh was starting to get a feel for this, and he could feel the sync beginning to build between him and the Snorunt... "To the right!" Josh would call as the Snorunt would slide to the right, dodging a Poison Sting.
Time to experiment...
Another String Shot... "Backflip!" Josh called. He didn't even know if Valor could pull one off in battle, though he'd seen him show off with it to the younger Pokemon... To his relative joy, the Snorunt would backflip miraculously, dodging the String Shot. "Icy Wind!" Josh would call, bringing an arm sideways. The Snorunt would reply by shaking, and a burst of icy wind would blow from his body, knocking the Wurmple off the branch. "Quick, use Ice Shard!" Josh would call toward the Snorunt, who would launch those sharp pieces of ice that nailed the Wurmple dead on as it was still stunned on the ground. Wurmple would manage to get up and suddenly hit the Snorunt with Tackle, sending him rolling back a bit. "Shake it off, shake it off" Josh encouraged and took a breath as the Snorunt would shake off the blow. Wurmple would go for Bug Bite to follow up, but Josh wasn't having any of it. "Flash!" Josh called to the Snorunt, and Valor would suddenly emit a bright light that would temporarily blind the Wurmple. "Follow up with Ice Shard, close range, then Crunch!" Josh would call as the Snorunt would shoot the sharp ice shards that would nail it dead on, close range and all, before charging and nailing it with a HARD fang attack!
Wurmple would topple back, then collapse, and Josh would toss a Poke Ball at it.
