The months had changed—it was now time for another attempt to go back to the Badlands! This time, however, Andrea was determined not to run afoul of the bad luck that had bothered her last month—out of all the digging attempts that she’d undergone in the October season, only one of the four had yielded something of value—the other three ended in utter disaster. Knowing that her younger brother had phoned her about the “joint venture”, she then decided to pack more food than she would normally bring—because she wasn’t going alone this time—and left him a voice mail message to bring some extra water as well. After the backpack had been sufficiently packed with sandwiches (and sun block, as well as an extra pair of working gloves) Andrea then left the small apartment she’d been renting during the time of her stay in the Kalos region.
She’d decided to leave and head to the site as early as she could—because the start of the digging season always had the highest turnout of individuals trying their luck—and therefore meant lesser chances of actually finding something worthwhile—and as she headed out to the Badlands through the city, she called Thomas’ mobile and left him another message, asking for him to meet her at the excavation site directly instead of within Lumiose as originally planned, since she’d woken up much earlier than her normal time. Now that she’d reached the Badlands—she was not surprised to see the extremely long line outside, and had to suppress a chuckle to herself. She then fell in line, slapping on the sun block all the while; and once she’d reached the inspection tables and was given the green light—instead of heading out, she chose to stay at the tent, at least until her brother appeared so that they could go out digging together instead of one of them taking the lead.

Thomas was happy to hear when Andrea accepted his offer to search the Kalosian Badlands together. As funny as it was, the trainer, now seventeen years old, actually wanted to bond with his older sister. So what better way than to dig through the Badlands, the place she told him about in the first place. Perhaps they could both find something good? Perhaps this would be the part where his luck ran out.
In any case, when he got the call to meet her directly at the excavation site, Thomas himself got ready earlier than he planned. After putting on his white button-up shirt, a pair of khaki slacks, and a pair of sturdy boots, he grabbed the cooler full of water he had sitting near the hotel door. Finally, he put his belt with his six Pokemon onto his belt, and headed out the door.
------
After being cleared at the gate, and being told about Andrea being in one of the tents, Thomas came looking for his older sister. Once he found her, the trainer smiled.
"Ready?", asked Thomas.
-----
Once everything was said and done, Thomas slipped on his work gloves, and brought out his collapsible shovel. After Algernon did his thing, and moistened the ground, Thomas then started to dig in.
Dig Dig Dig . . . What's this?! Congratulations, You've found a RELIC STATUE ! A stone figure made in a civilization about 3,000 years ago. A maniac will buy it for a high price.
She didn’t have to wait too long—approximately five minutes after arriving, she was informed that an individual matching her younger brother’s description was sighted in the line; and soon after he appeared—lugging quite the cooler, which she suspected, contained the drinks—after all, she was bringing the sandwiches to the yard for their joint trip. “Of course I’m ready. Let’s get this started,” she said with a grin, before nodding in thanks to the guard staff and then heading out into the early-morning Badlands. The wind wasn’t as humid as it normally would be (but then again, December was approaching so humid days were starting to become rare) and she then watched, with a small smirk, that he’d brought out his Slowking and begun blasting the ground in order to make it easier to dig.
“Y-you may want to get out of the way—or at least have a change of clothing—when I do that much later… because normally I use Rain Dance around the area, but that’s only when the weather here is really unbearable,” she remarked with another cheeky grin, before quickly unknotting her collapsible shovel and then starting to dig herself. She decided not to bring out Lexie until much later—or when the circumstances changed. After digging through the softened ground in silence, she then heard the sound of something cracking; and it echoed like a gunshot in the nearby vicinity. Almost on cue, she then hissed, before swearing as quietly as she could manage. “Well, shit. That’s the… uhh, I lost count of how many of those weird Relic things I’ve broken,” she admitted with a sheepish grin; and if either her Milotic or Ponyta was around, they’d snigger derisively in her direction. “Nothing to do but to keep digging,” she muttered as she continued to dig herself into silence.

Thomas watched his sister as she came to the location he chose to dig. He shrugged as she told him that a change of clothing might be necessary, since she had something use Rain Dance.
"These are clothes that I don't mind getting dirty, and I don't think getting wet would hurt in this case.", he told his older sister.
He then listened on as the blade of her shovel managed to break one of the relics. He then looked at her.
"Well, a collector is probably dying inside as we speak...", remarked Thomas.
In any case, it was his turn to dig now, and as luck would have it, it was yet another relic. This time, it was a wristband. Thomas looked at it for a moment, before simply leaving it be.
"As long as there are chances to be taken, I'm not settling for less...", Thomas told his older sister as he continued digging.
Dig Dig Dig . . . What's this?! Congratulations, You've found a RARE BONE ! A bone that is extremely valuable for Pokémon archeology. It can be sold for a high price to shops.
After hearing his remark about not minding if he would get drenched by Rain Dance if ever she chose to bring out her Ponyta, she then grinned, and took a mental note to send out Lexie after the next find… which would be happening in a few more moments. After smashing another one of the “relic” items and cringing internally about what had happened—though she had to snigger a bit for his quip about the “relic collector dying inside” due to what she’d done—she then felt her shovel scrape hard against… something. This something didn’t have the distinctive clinking noise, so she shook her head and hissed, before deciding to unearth the rest of the darned thing. That’s when she noticed she’d found… something on the larger side; it was definitely not just your ordinary, run-of-the-mill “bone”, it was one that apparently belonged to something much larger than she could comprehend.
“Tom… I think it’s time we switched areas, we’re getting nothing but duds here. What do you say?” she asked him, before leaving the half-exposed bone lying in the dirt and walking over to him, and opening her backpack. She then shuffled around and then handed him something wrapped in foil—it was a sandwich; for him to eat while they were out here. “Might as well take a quick break while looking around for a new spot to search at…” she muttered, reaching in for a sandwich of her own while leaning on the shovel. After finishing the sandwich in record time, she then crumpled up the foil into a small ball before dropping it down one of her backpack’s side pockets. “Can’t litter out here in the Badlands. Anyway, let’s look over there,” she said, pointing some distance away, and whether or not he’d agree to switching areas, she then squared her shoulders and moved away from the spot where they’d found nothing but duds—and then promptly sent out her own Milotic.
As the Tender ‘mon made her appearance, she then pointed to the sky, before grinning—and as if on cue, with one swish of her tail, the Milotic’s simple gesture made the sky over the area where she stood turn dark—and she then watched a torrential rain pour down on the area. It was a wider range of effect than just aiming a Water-based attack on one spot and then digging… so who knew if they’d be able to find something here? After letting it rain for around five minutes, she then recalled the Milotic—yet the rain still persisted, slowing down to a windy drizzle. “C’mon, let’s look over here!” she called out, before quickly walking into the drenched area and digging through the new area—it was definitely easier to move wet ground around as compared to dry ground.
Dig Dig Dig . . . What's this?! Congratulations, You've found a RELIC VASE ! A vase made in a civilization about 3,000 years ago. A maniac will buy it for a high price.

Thomas watched as his older sister managed to dig up an old bone. Judging from her reaction, she clearly didn't want the thing. And honestly, Thomas didn't want an old bone either. So when she suggested they migrate to another place, he nodded to his older sister. Thomas smiled and nodded thankfully as he took the sandwich offered to him by his older sister. Though he took longer to eat his sandwich than Andrea, he disposed of his wrapper in his own backpack, opting to dispose of it later.
He followed his older sister to the new area they would dig at. But before he could start digging, Andrea sent out her Milotic, who summoned a flash of rain in order to soften the earth for them. Algernon himself seemed to enjoy the rainfall, somewhat dancing in it. As goofy as it looked, he was in his element, and in this climate, he was going to embrace that while it lasted.
Once everything was said and done, Thomas started to dig before his shovel tapped up against something. Immediately, he started to dig it up, before half-unearthing a vase. Thomas shrugged, clearly not even wanting the thing.

some coincidences are deliberate

Now that they’d gotten started in searching through the new area, Andrea decided to pick out a random spot and just get digging—but what she didn’t realize was that she was going to be finding something quite soon. Wondering why she was getting a prickly feeling when she started digging in the particular area, she didn’t stop until she thought she heard a very distinct, familiar, “music to her ears” kind of “clink” noise. Oh… oh yes! I knew switching locations would be a good idea! She thought as she then abandoned the shovel and got down on her knees, before slipping on her pair of working gloves and then shoveling dirt away by hand.
After some time had passed, she had finally caught sight of the glittering thing that had made the “clink” noise when her shovel had smacked into it earlier. As she pulled it out of the muck, her excitement…fell a little. “Hey… this looks familiar. Don’t I already have…” she trailed off, before realizing that she already had one of these marbles with her. She was debating on whether or not to claim it—and she had a slight suspicion that even her younger brother already had the same thing, so with a sigh; and hoping that she’d be able to find something, she then set the funky-colored marble back down in the dirt; before deciding to move to another location in order to be able to continue trying her luck.

Thomas, not deterred by his failure to dig up a Mega Stone earlier, continued to dig through the soggy ground in an attempt to find another one of those Mega Stones. And after a little while of digging, he managed to spot a glimmer in one of the mounds of dirt being lifted to the surface by his shovel. Immediately, Thomas dropped this separate from the bigger pile, and dug the glimmering object out with his hand. Immediately, he spotted the new Mega Stone. It certainly wasn't one he had spotted before.
"Hey sis, I got one!", Thomas called out, saying this as he cleaned off what was the Mega Stone for a Houndoom. But all he knew was that it was consistent with the usual pattern, and that it was most likely one of the coveted stones. As for what exactly it was, he'd find out when he finally conquered the Tower of Mastery.
Andrea was still busy digging in silence when she thought she heard her brother causing an uproar—and with her eyebrows going up just slightly, she then walked over to where he was, shovel in hand—and then realized that he’d just found another one of the things; and it looked like the one she currently had with her. “Heh, nice find. I found one earlier but I already had that one, and I figured you might already have it as well,” she dropped off, pointing to an earlier mound she’d left alone where another sparkling marble awaited before continuing, “…so I just left it there. Well, here’s to hoping I find something. Guess digging together did work out after all, eh?” she remarked with a grin on her face as she then looked around—before seeing a spot not too far away from where he’d found his own blackish-red marble.
She then took off her backpack and then handed it to him, before continuing, “Here, have some sandwiches. I made a lot… I thought we’re going to be out here for a while so yeah. Better safe than sorry, hm?” She then cracked a grin and gave him a thumbs-up, before heading over to the spot that she was looking at; and then continuing on with her own attempts at finding something. Who knew that we’d run across something so late into the digging trip… maybe I might get lucky too? Or not. It depends, since… well, yeah… she thought as she then stabbed the ground with her shovel, digging through the new spot near to where he’d found his lucky marble. Maybe she’d find hers over here, too? Who knew?
