He smiled at her response. "Yeah. That" he said calmly, chuckling a bit. He tried to keep up with her so she wouldn't have to walk backwards, but to each their own, right? Of course, he didn't mind she'd stopped his training, he was just happy he could help her. "I usually get voicemail when I send my Pokemon over to the ranch my folks own so... I... Yeah, I don't hear from them much at all. And when I do, it's my mom. Never my dad. She told me recently that he went travelling for some reason, despite him being retired as a Trainer. Nobody's heard from him since" he admitted, sighing. "But... Don't worry about me" he said with a laugh. "I'm used to it. They were always busy when I was a kid, so I didn't see much of them to begin with if I wasn't working for them"
Whoops. He'd vented again. He hadn't meant to tell her that, it just.... Slipped out, he supposed.
"Pika-Pi!"
"Hm?" Josh perked up as he noticed a Pikachu running out of the Pokemon Center. He had a blue bandana hanging from his neck and he leaped into the blonde's arms, who laughed. "Aw, Lightning, you couldn't wait until I got into the Center?" he asked with a laugh. "Chaaa~" Lightning responded affectionately as the blonde ran his fingers through the fur on his head. "Hey, you knew I'd be back soon. Just wanted to get some training in for Inferno" he said. "Pikachu!" Lightning responded as he looked over at Angel.
Josh smiled over at Angel. "Angel, this is my partner, Lightning. Lightning, say hello!"
"Pika!" Lightning chirped excitedly, waving to Angel.
"Nobody has heard from him?" she started, referring to the words he was speaking about his father. That seems confusing to her. She literally didn't understand that. "You guys didn't know where he went? Why didn't you know? I mean.." she paused for a moment.
"I mean, I'm on a journey but my mommy and daddy know where I am mostly." she said, and held her phone tight in her hands again. "I call them when I go to a new place and send pictures." Pictures on her phone weren't as cool as the ones on her fancy camera she got from Kouji though. So she liked to send pictures via e-mail when she got to the Pokemon Center. She took some of this city yesterday actually, especially the big department store.
When they arrived at the Pokemon Center Angel got to see an amazingly cute Pokemon. She.. wow. She just wanted to hug it! "Is that Pikachu?" she had actually heard of them before, but living in Unova still didn't have much experience with them. "They are so cute.. wow! Where did you get yours?" she was already wanting to know.. because.. maybe she would go and get her own too.

He let out a sigh. "I'm afraid not" he admitted. "I usually only saw him when I was helping him and mom at their work when I was a kid, and saw them less when I went to post-secondary but... Still, him just completely disappearing like that hurts, I gotta admit" he said, sighing. "But... I'm not selfish. He's gotta do what he's gotta do. Maybe he caught the travelling bug again, like I did. I just wish I knew where he was and that he's okay" he said.
"Pikachu!" Lightning let out excitedly at the prospect of a new friend. Josh smiled a bit at her excitement over it. "Yep, that's my Pikachu" he said. "Actually, you can find Pichu in Hoenn I hear, you just gotta be lucky. I found mine back in Kotaku, he was just a little baby lost, cold and alone. After I saved his life, he hasn't left my side since. Actually, he repaid the favor just recently" he said with a laugh. "He evolved into Pikachu to save me from a Gyarados"
"Pikachu!" Lightning chirped happily. "You can pet him if you want" he offered with a smile. "He loves being petted and cuddled"
She liked the sound of that. "It's okay. That's really cool though that you met one and you helped it! You must be really really nice." her mood had obviously really improved since she had met him and he had eased her trouble mind. She quickly got into cuddle mode with the cute Pikachu and pet and him and held him in her small arms and gave him a cuddle. It was easily one of the best mood helpers ever, cuddling a Pikachu.
Still, as she was doing so other thoughts were popping in her mind as well. "A Gyarados? I have one.. his name is B.T. it stands for lots of things." she giggled. "Like Bacon Tomato.. but actually Big Terror because he's big and he likes to act scary." she said.. obviously liking her silly joke a lot for some silly reason.
Honestly she wasn't thinking too hard about his dad. Part of it was just her natural optimism, which was surging back. It took quite a lot of worry to beat her down and yet she was already crawling back up. "I'm sure he'll remember and tell you and stuff. I forget to call sometimes too." she said, examining the Pikachu's cheeks.. it basically had a "push me" look to it. She couldn't help herself.

Josh laughed a bit as Lightning coo'd and let out the cutest little "Pika~" and "Cha!~" as he cuddled up to Angel. Obviously, he seemed to like his new friend already. Josh noticed that Angel's mood had begun to brighten up and he smiled broadly in response. He was happy he'd at least helped her somehow.
"Yeah, I actually caught it too once Lightning knocked it out" he explained, chuckling. "I have him with me now actually, if you wanna see him" he offered. "Just be warned I'm still training him. He doesn't get along very well with Lightning, or my other Pokemon, but if Lightning looks at him the right way, he'll simmer down" he said, chuckling. "I think he learned his lesson when the little Pichu shocked him out of his wits. Especially when he evolved and shocked him even harder then he'd shocked his comrades" he said. "I actually caught the entire horde of them. All six. I had help, of course, but I kept the last one, the one that Lightning evolved fighting. The other ones I sold to Trainers for a nice and cheap price so the Gyarados would have a home where they wouldn't terrorize travelers anymore" he explained. "Pika!" Lightning let out excitedly in response, and Josh chuckled as he scratched the fur on the Pikachu's chin, earning a "Cha~" from the Pikachu who was loving being showered in affection.
At her mentioning his dad, he nodded, sighing a bit. "I hope so" he said. "It's rough, not seeing him, but he was a legendary, famous Pokemon Trainer back where we used to live. He took six Pokemon with him, by what mom says, so I assume he should be fine. I just wish he'd call or something"
Beep! Lightning seemed to start laughing when she pushed his cheeks. It was a ticklish spot! "Wait, wait, don't!" Josh suddenly called out as Lightning's cheeks sparked. Josh managed to grab Lightning quick enough to take the accidental Thundershock himself, gritting his teeth as he wrapped his arms around Lightning to take the entire brunt of it without it hurting Angel. "GGGGGGZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT!" he let out in pain, his voice distorted from the shocks. Finally, it ended and Josh wobbled over to the bench, putting Lightning down beside him as he sat down to get his bearings and once he did he brushed the soot out of his clothing, and used a mirror and brush to fix up his long blonde hair, which had spiked up like a porcupine when he'd been shocked.
"I'm okay" he assured Angel with a weak smile. "I'm used to it, but I still hate taking it. Better me then you though" he said. "Lightning's very ticklish on his cheeks. You can rub them and massage them gently. They love it. But push hard enough and it'll trigger an instinct in their bodies that activates an electric attack instantly. He can't control it of course, Lightning wouldn't hurt a human if he could help it" he explained. "Pikachuuuuu..." Lightning whimpered, snuggling up against his Trainer apologetically, obviously feeling horrible about shocking his own partner. Josh smiled and scratched the fur on Lightning's head. "Oh, it's okay... I know you didn't mean it..." he promised.
She might have gotten a bit pouty about the fact that he didn't laugh at her weird joke. She might have mentioned something about the dad that he mentioned.. but once he took the blast and she could only watch as Pikachu accidentally shocked his trainer.. she was pulled away from any thoughts like that. Her face looked just as apologetic as the Pikachu's. It didn't help that even if he didn't mean it, her worry about being scolded had registered his telling her on how to properly touch a Pikachu's cheeks as a sort of light scolding.
"I'm sorry! I just.. I never met one before, I didn't know they were.." she could only stammer. "I won't do it again.. p-promise." She felt so bad.. it had looked so painful! She had almost taken some Pokemon attacks a few times and she had been so scared. She had actually been scared the moment that the Pikachu's cheeks had sparked.. she had heard they were electric Pokemon but seeing it was quite different.
She looked the part of a child whose known they've done something wrong.. her head hanging low. "I should have been more careful I.. Pokemon do all sorts of things and they are hard to keep up with them all. I'll do better next time I promise." She kept repeating that.. she was a bit of a silly.

The poor girl was freaking out. Josh frowned as she kept going on. He hadn't scolded her, not at all. Simply reminded her politely about the electricity that stemmed from the Pikachu's cheeks. He wasn't mad at her, and he sure as hell wasn't mad at the Pikachu. It was an honest mistake, people made them. And she was relatively young and hadn't seen a Pikachu before, so it was a given she was going to make a mistake. At the very least, he was able to prevent that mistake from hurting her, so he was fine with that.
"Relax" he said with a small smile as he tried to get his bearings back. "He's shocked me before" he promised with a chuckle. "I... Just haven't been shocked while he's been a Pikachu. And he forgot Thundershock just a few days ago in favor of Thunderbolt so... Obviously that was a MUCH stronger charge then I've ever taken from little Lightning here" he said, chuckling as he patted the Pikachu's head. "Don't blame yourself, you didn't know" he comforted, smiling.
"He'll be fine" he promised, scratching the fur on Lightning's head as he clung to his Trainer, knowing full well he'd done wrong even if he didn't mean to, and even though Josh had forgiven him.
He had to admit to himself... It hurt! A lot. A little Pichu's he could handle, but despite toughing it and trying not to show pain, he'd been shocked so hard it'd have probably killed a small child. Lightning was still learning to control his Thunderbolt...
The comforting helped a little, but the situation still left her a bit frazzled. Then.. thinking about something she had missed responding to before.
B.T... funny joke aside, she wasn't feeling so confident about her Gyarados. It would be best to just move right along, she decided. Yes. That would be good. She looked around and tried to find something to distract herself with. Then.. in front of the Pokemon Center she saw it.
"Ribbon!" she squealed. Sure enough, Josh was correct and a very tired looking Gothita with a photo album tied around her back was standing in front of the Pokemon Center. Angel looked so happy as she burst forward and went to go hug her Pokemon.
"I can't believe it! You're here! Where did you go?" she chirped excitedly. Then she noticed the photo album on her back. "You.. went back to go find that? We could have gone together Ribbon! Don't go off by yourself!" she hugged her tight. Her not being around made her so worried though!
Ribbon, the Gothita had looked very tried and intially a bit frazzled by all the attention Angel was showering her with.. but the more that Angel doted on her and kissed her and hugged her the more she felt happy. Ribbon loved attention.. maybe she should run away more often if it gave her this kind of love.
She turned around. "Mister Josh! It's Ribbon! She was here like you said!" she stood up, the Gothita in her hands, showing the him the Pokemon she had lost and now found.

Hey, she'd found it! Josh grinned as he watched Angel's happy reunion with her Gothita. "You found it!" Josh exclaimed, laughing a bit. "Pi-Pi-Pikachu!" Lightning chirped happily as they both got up and walked over.
He was happy for her, and noticed the photo album as they walked over.... Huh, so it'd just gone to get her photo album? It was sweet, but he could see why Angel had worried.
Then Josh got an idea...
"Hey Angel?" he asked curiously. "I just had an idea. If your Gothita isn't too tired, maybe we could have a practice battle? Doesn't have to finish, but I do wanna see what you're capable of. Luckily for you, my battle experience against other Trainers is low, since I'm more experienced in taking on uh... Wild Pokemon"
That was a lie. Those things weren't Wild Pokemon. But they were, at one point. But it still counted, they were Trainerless Pokemon... Just twisted, corrupted, evil... Mutated.
He cracked his neck. "Maybe one of my Pokemon could have a practice battle with your Gothita? I think I have one in mind that could use the practice"
Ribbon wasn't as much tired as she was short of breath. So everything was all set for that. Angel gave her a drink of water from her water bottle which she guzzled, but that seemed to do her just fine. So.. Angel knew that Ribbon could battle. Totally so.
Her confidence however was another thing. Things were so up and down..
But battling was supposed to be fun?
All the thoughts were just too much. She decided she would let Ribbon decide. "Do YOU wanna Ribbon? if you do we can." to her surprise, Ribbon totally seemed to want to. This really suprised Angel.. why? Ribbon almost always was a pampered little lady who seemed to dislike getting all hurt. I mean.. Angel knew that Ribbon also liked showing off.
Then again, she would have never thought Ribbon would be the type to go and fetch her book for her too. What was up with her?
She tried to get excited about the idea. It was totally just for fun, and Ribbon wanted to play too. "Yeah, let's train! Ribbon is a super strong lady and can do super cool things, I wanna show you!" she did actually. Thinking of it that way helped too.

He smiled a bit at her acceptance. Alright, hopefully this wouldn't go TOO bad....
Admittedly, he hadn't had a Trainer Battle since he came to Hoenn... He'd spent more time making friends and taking on wild Pokemon in droves then battling other Trainers. I guess it was best he started now.
He sighed, taking a breath. He wasn't confident, but he had to try. Besides, it was just for fun. Nothing official. And it was good training.
"Alright. One on one. Standard rules, except we'll go until we feel we've had enough or when one Trainer's Pokemon is unable to battle" he said. "I think you know who I'll be using" he said, with a small smile.
He looked down at his Cyndaquil and smiled down at him. "You ready for this, Inferno?" he asked with a smirk. "Cynda, Cyndaquil!" Inferno responded eagerly.
She felt her body shiver. "I'll be using Gothita." she said... and then more interesting things popped in her head. "It's good right? They both don't have any um.." she was searching for a word that wasn't quite popping in her head. "It's all fair and stuff you know?" The word she was looking for was advantage, but she would realize that perhaps tomorrow and get pouty at herself a bit.
She realized that since they were near the Pokemon Center there was likely a battlefield somewhat lined up nearby for people to use. "Let's go to the place they have!" and sure enough there was that she found very quickly by dashing right off. Just a little basic outline arena with nothing funny about it. It had clear sections there are obviously for showing when one was "out of bound" keeping all the action tight and making dodging more technically then simply running away.
Not that Angel Dalton really had the know-how to know all of that. "Battling in this kinda place feels really cool doesn't it?" .. that was pretty much the entire reason she wanted to come here. She looked rather infuated with the design though, as if having moments like this part of why she was even doing this.

(Sorry if I mess up, this is my first time!)
"No, I don't think there's an advantage on either end" he said, thinking for a moment. Cyndaquil was a Fire Pokemon, and while Gothita looked like it'd be a Dark Pokemon, his research indicated that Gothita was only a Psychic Pokemon. Their types, if he remembered correctly, didn't touch each other in any way, shape or form. They were likely very evenly matched.
Josh took a deep breath as they made their way to the small battlefield near the Pokemon Center. He examined it and smiled a bit. It was obviously built for containing battles as well as possible, and keeping people outside the area safe. Hopefully, they wouldn't hurt anybody with their first form Pokemon.
"Yeah" he said with a small smile to her question. "It is...." he said quietly as he took his spot. It reminded him of the arenas he dreamed of as a kid. Not near as glamorous, but... Hey, it was a good start, right?
"You ready?" he asked, relaxing a bit once he was settled on his side of the arena.
It was a lie kinda. Maybe? She felt as ready as she could ever feel. She felt scared though, there was a shivering feeling she was having couldn't admit to either Ribbon or Mister Josh. She was scared. Things hadn't been quite the same recently.
Ribbon was already out of her Poke Ball so there would be no fancy introductions. Once Angel was safely in her spot on the arena her Gothita jumped out of Angel's arms and walked over to her spot as well.
Then.. Ribbon started to cry. She started to cry big blubbery looking tears. She really did look very sad. Angel always was thrown off by her Fake Tears attack a little bit. Then blubbering sound had a nasty status lowering effect on those that hurt it too.. making them much more vulnerable to Gothita's magical powers. It was Angel's usual opening gambit with Gothita and she didn't like to call it out. Lots of times the opposing trainer acted confused and hesitated.
However the shift happened quick. Once the status lowering move would have it's effect, the Psychic Pokemon would recover from it's fake nervousness and send some actual attacks in Inferno's direction. "Ribbon, Thunder Wave then Psychc!" Calling out Pokemon attacks always did feel exciting. It felt heroic and she hoped her Gothita was having fun too. First a wave of surprisingly.. electricity would burst out of the antenna like piece on it's head, a telltale Thunder Wave attack that Mister Josh probably had some experience with. It came from a different source then he was used to but it had that smae vibe. The paralyzing effects of it if it would hurt.
Then right after a cosmic ball of Psychic energy.. just Psychic. It was the main standby of a Psychic Pokemon and for good reason. The small frame of her looked almost as if she might have trouble pulling off such an attack though. Almost straining against the weight of her own psychic energy but it wouldn't phase her all that much.

(I hope this is okay!)
He smiled a bit. He was nervous, but he had confidence in his Cydaquil... Inferno, he knew would adjust just as he would. The question was, how long would it take?
Inferno himself, of course was already out of his Pokeball. No need for introduction there. He stood in front of his Trainer, ready for orders, as if it were a regular old battle with a Wild Pokemon. He was ready, that was for sure! Josh hoped that Inferno truly was though... He hadn't battled since they'd taken on that Charmander. But Inferno seemed to be raring to go, so he would be too!
As the battle began, Ribbon began to cry. Josh blinked for a moment, and Inferno looked at Josh in concern. Josh smirked a bit as he remembered this trick being used before... "Inferno, it's a trick!" he called out, which encouraged the Cyndaquil out of his hesitation. "Just like with that wild Pokemon we saw before, hit it with Flame Wheel, and whether you miss it or send it flying, rebound with Flamethrower!"
Inferno nodded and charged at the Gothita, managing to roll out of the way of the Thunder Wave. Sadly, before he could go full power, he was hit dead on by the Psychic attack, sending the Cyndaquil rolling back.
"Don't let it deter you, Inferno! Keep going!" Josh called out to the Cyndaquil, who immediately kept running, the flames on his back finally lighting up as he was cloaked in a veil of flames, charging for the Gothita.
Whether he hit or miss though, as Josh had commanded, the Cyndaquil would unleash his second attack regardless. If the attack sent it flying, the Cyndaquil would aim up and spray a jet of white hot flames the way of the Gothita, and if not, he would quickly turn around and shoot the Flamethrower on the ground toward the Gothita.
