It wasn't immediately apparent anything was wrong with Angel Dalton, sitting alone on a bench. Sure, her hair was a bit messy and she looked short of breath.. but what child didn't at times?
The day was getting along.. it was almost rightly evening. The girl looked as if she was deep in thought, her hands stretched out in front of her.. looking at them. As if curious about them in some way, pondering them..
"Where could she be... why isn't she here.."
The thoughts had played over and over in her mind, but this time when she said it she almost felt a deathly chill wash over her body and making her shake and wish she was wearing warmer clothes. It wasn't even really that cold, but the child was hit with the gravity of the situation.
Her Pokemon was lost. She had searched for her all day.. earlier in the day it was easier to lie to herself. In their own way they had been somewhat ridiculous lies.. but they were comforting to tell herself. 'She must have gone out to play.'
Unfortunately the words she felt and thought didn't match up with reality. Her Gothita named Ribbon was not the type of Pokemon that just went out to play anyway. The only person Ribbon wanted to play with was Angel. She was a pampered little baby who was obsessed with her trainers attention.
"What if she's in trouble.. what if she needs my help.. but I can't.."
She knew she shouldn't be sitting here, and felt her body shake. She felt tears well up in her eyes and slowly start dripping on her hands.. but none of it really helped her feel any better, knowing she only had a few hours of daylight left. This was the literal first day the two had been apart since they had met. She had.. just no idea where she could have gone.
Boom, a Flamethrower would shoot up over her head, completely destroying a disk that had been thrown into the air just prior. Behind her, she would have heard the cries of a Cyndaquil as it loosed a jet of flame. It seemed someone was getting in some evening training after the general population has left the beach to return to their homes.
"Alright, great job, Inferno!" a young man complimented proudly as he patted the Cyndaquil on the head. "Cyndaquill, Cynda Cynda!" the Cyndaquil would let out in joy as his blonde haired Trainer praised him.
The man himself was about 6'1, looked to be in his early 20s with blonde hair and brown eyes. He looked to have been a Pokemon Trainer for quite some time. They'd gotten here as soon as evening had come, not wanting to disturb the regular beachgoers in some good training. Today was Inferno's turn.
He hadn't noticed the little girl yet, but would in a moment as he looked over at her. He noticed a worried expression on her face and waved her over.
"Hey there, is everything alright?" he called out to her.
The voice brought her out of her depressed trance. She stared at the man speaking to her, tears filled slowly pooling at the bottom of her eyes and slipping..
She tried to ignore the thoughts. She tried to focus on the Cyndaquil.
"It's a P-Pokemon I've never seen before... it's really cute.. it's.. a.."
It wasn't helpful. She started to cry again before she could even ask her usual flood of questions. "My Ribbon.. she's gone." was the words that came out as her body started to shiver. Fear of losing her for good overwhelmingly strong in her brain. She looked back up at him and explained herself further, "She's my Gothita and she's lost, all day.. she's never been gone like this before." She was trying to explain quickly, let them know what was going on..
But all she could do was keep on pondering what might have happened to her. For all she knew, aliens could have kidnapped her and brought her to the moon. It made more sense then her just walking away.

He frowned as the little girl mentioned her story. He sighed, that wasn't good... He knew what it was like to lose a Pokemon, to spend so much time looking for them... But he couldn't imagine losing them forever.
It had happened before though... Not to him, but a family member... But no, he couldn't bear to think about that again. For now, this little girl had a Pokemon to find.
"Hey..." he said with the gentleness of a father as he knelled to her level and put a hand on her shoulder, giving her a reassuring smile. "I'm sure she just got lost" he assured her. "If this only happened today, I'm sure she's still walking around the city looking for you" he said. "How would you feel if I helped you look for her?" he asked, hoping to help her and cheer her up. The least he could do was hope to find the Gothita.
She tried to smile at him. She wanted to, the feelings were there.. and the weak smile did manage to push out a little. "You would? That would be really nice.. I.. I don't know where we would start though. I already looked all over the park and all around the Pokemon Center I stayed and I looked.." she was stammering a bit through her words, nervousness and her general fragile emotional state was making her a bit of a rattled little thing.
She had a water bottle with her, a good thing for her to be carrying and she took a quick drink of it. The cool water settled her nerves a little bit, and allowed her to ask a question she wanted to ask. She looked for the few minutes before she spoke it though like she really wanted to ask something.
"Who is this? They look really cute." she was pointing at the Cyndaquil. Thoughts where running through her head, and her nerves were calm enough to where her usual lack of fliter thoughts were starting to burst out of her again. "Another Pokemon I've never seen before, isn't it cool that you like find out about a new Pokemon each day? That's what I love abou.."
It was hard to finish that thought. She got choked up again. Even just thinking about loving Pokemon brought to mind her precious friend.

He could tell she was hurting. It broke his heart to see that. The least he could do was help her find her Pokemon. He knew he'd want someone to help him if he'd lost something important to him, especially his Pokemon.... "Don't worry about it" he said. "I'm just happy to help. The question is... Where would we start then, if you've checked there?" he asked.
As she looked over at Inferno, Josh smiled and patted the head of his Cyndaquil. "This is Inferno, my Cyndaquil" he said. "Cynda, Cynda!" Inferno greeted excitedly. While he was timid around new people, he didn't seem to mind kids at all. Josh couldn't helped but laugh a bit. "It seems he likes you already. Normally, he's quite shy around new people. Looks like you're something special, huh?"
He could tell the poor girl was starting to choke up again... He tried to keep a happy expression, but he did want to go help her find her Pokemon as soon as possible. He hoped it was alright...
She stood up and smiled, moving a little closer to Inferno.. her body language showing that she was starting to loosen up and get a little more excited.
"He's so cool! And cute! Inferno is such a cool name too, he's like... really cool." Not the most eloquent words, but she was impressed by the Pokemon. That was that point she was trying to make at least. She looked around them, as if for some reason she expected to see Gothita hovering around them. No.. Ribbon wouldn't just be here in sight after all this.
"I'm just.. I'm trying to remember what we did yesterday." she pondered this for a moment. "We went and played around the Department Store.." just thinking about it made her sad a little. "I was showing a counter lady my camera cuz I thought she might have a cool flash for it so I could take pictures in the dark better, but then I lost my photo album." she said.. thinking about that made her sad too. She was just losing things all over the place. In fact she thought she would be spending the day looking for the pictures of all her friends but instead she ended up looking for an actual friend. She.. found a friend too though? I mean.. Inferno at least but this man was nice too.

He chuckled a bit as he let her get close to Inferno. The Cyndaquil stared up at his new friend excitedly. "Cynda, Cyndaqil!" Inferno let out happily at her words. "Yeah, he's cool alright" Josh said with a laugh as he patted Inferno's head. "This guy took down a Charmander the other day. Was a tough one, that Charmander sure was angry. But Inferno's tough too" he said, laughing a bit more.
"Hmm..." he pondered as she mused about where her Ribbon might be. "Well... Think. If you were Ribbon, and you got lost and didn't know where your Trainer was, where would you go in hopes that she would come looking for you?" he asked. At her introduction, he smiled. "I'm Josh. I'm a travelling Pokemon Trainer from LittleRoot Town"
"It's nice to meet you um.. Mister Josh." she had been trying to be more polite lately.. maybe just another phase. Something about him made her feel the need to add the mister part as well. Whatever that quality was, it was harder to pin down though.
She looked around again, almost just as if by habit. Just looking around, always keeping her eyes peeled for her precious companion. "I think that.." she paused for a moment. "I mean the Pokemon Center where we stayed, but.. but.. I already looked there." she said.
"Or well.. I guess I mean. That's kinda where I was when I first figured out she was lost." she said, blushing a little. "So I mean.. she wasn't there before, that's why I started looking." she paused for a moment. "Do you think she might have come home while I was out looking though?" It was a thought at least.

He smiled politely, noting the manners on her end. "It's a pleasure to meet you as well, Miss Angel" he said. If she was to use titles, why not, right? He was just happy to help, making a new friend was a bonus, big or small, young or old, short or tall, after all.
"Hmm...." he said, scratching his beard as he mused. "There's a chance she could have gone home" he said. "If you want, I could escort you there, and if you don't find her at home, we'll go and find her elsewhere. Could ask your parents if they'd seen you as well" he offered. "Maybe they could help us search, or maybe they'll even know some more spots that she's possibly likely to go to?"
"Okay." Another person, especially a nice person like Mister Josh made her feel a little more hopeful. It just.. felt good to say that stuff. To not be alone. Although this journey was a journey she had chosen for herself and one that was full of lots of fun.. the things she hated about it was always being alone.
Which brought her to the statement he had made. She looked up at him, looking a little embarassed.. she was always feeling like she needed to feel odd about this. Wasn't 10 year old's going out and on a journey normal? She remembered the one lady who was suprised she was even 10.. she didn't look like a baby did she? "My parents are in.. Unova. So I don't think they can help or would know. Mommy would get really upset too." she said, though she immediately got embarrassed about using mommy again. She just had finished thinking about how she wasn't a baby!
She hoped that would be enough, but she knew that some people got real nervous about the fact that she was traveling a lot. She really didn't know why.

Josh always loved company on his travels, it was nice to have another human being to talk to. Of course, this was more or less just him trying to help a girl find her Pokemon, but the company was nice to have while it lasted.
"Hm? Oh" he said, scratching his head. "I see..." he said. Josh forgot that it was common for younger kids to strike out to far off places in these regions, unlike his old home... But he had thought that her family would have at least been in the region if she was going HOME. Did she really own a house for herself at this age? Even he didn't, and he was probably twice her age.
He shrugged and started walking, letting her lead the way as him and his Cyndaquil followed. "How far is your home, if it's nearby?"
She looked a little confused for a moment. At him. Home? Had she called the Pokemon Center that? She realized she must have.. which made her giggle a little. It had become a bit of a home lately, staying at each one in the new towns. Maybe that's why she absent-mindedly called it like that.
Home is where the heart is right? It was a place she spent lots of time with her friends and even made new ones.
"Oh! I called the Pokemon Center home cuz I stay there lots!" she said, smiling. "That's where we need to go, you know where it is right? It's not too far!" Although Ribbon's status was certainly heavy on the young girls thoughts, she seemed to be loosening up and getting a little happier. She almost looked as if she was about to challenge Mister Josh to a race.. although he had so much longer legs then her. It was practically cheating that he did.

He blinked for a moment at her statement. There was a little bit of a delay in processing that, but it went right back to remembering that this little one had been travelling just as much as he had. She'd likely traversed the same forests, the same mountains, the same caves, and the same swamps as he had. By the looks of her being alone, she, like him had to singlehandedly set up camp every night, sleeping by herself without an inch of human company, likely unable to sleep at night for fear that she might be attacked by wild Pokemon.
But he understood. He agreed, a Pokemon Center was like a home away from home for Trainers. It was a safe haven for Josh, one he had spent more time in then his own home lately... He hadn't even been home since he left. But... Maybe that was because his parents were never there? They were always at their little research and breeding center they owned.... Just like when they lived in Kotaku. His home, the one he grew up in, was gone. He hadn't even tried to adjust to living in Littleroot Town before leaving. He held no attachments to it, really... It wasn't hos home to him. Pokemon Centers were more like home for him right now.
He smiled a bit. "My apologies for misunderstanding then" he said politely. "I understand now. I know how you feel. I guess I just... Never really thought about it that way before"
He nodded. "Yeah, I know where it is. I got a room reserved just a few hours ago before I went out with Inferno to do some training" he said, smiling. "Cynda, Cynda!" Inferno let out in agreement.
As they neared the Center, Josh eyed her. "Have you been home at all since you left?" He asked curiously. "Back in Unova, I mean. I think that's where you said your folks were"
She blinked.. he never thought about it what way before? She was a little confused for a moment as she recalled what she had said before. "Oh.. about the place kinda being like a home? It's funny right?" she smiled and was walking a bit backwards.. so she could walk and still look at her friend in the eye.
If she had been a bit more aware she might have apologized for stopping his training, but she was just feeling a little better. Talking with someone and getting her mind of all the what if's was helpful and she was feeling more confident that Ribbon could be found.
"Um.. I call them sometimes!" she said, pulling out her phone. It was cute. It looked like.. her phone. Feminine, a bit immature in design. "But no.. I think if I got there mommy might try to keep me there. She didn't want me to go but daddy.. dad said I could." she was seriously getting pouty at herself for not catching that. She had been calling them mommy and daddy since she could remember, but she knew how babyish it sounded now.
