Golden light, tunnel white. If I run to you, would you stay? I might be a prototype, but we’re both real inside.
The blond's reaction almost made Roxanne smile.
Almost.
If the boy couldn't handle someone as neutral as her, then he had no chance against the muck cockier gym leaders who were ahead. It was time to teach this boy a lesson he would never forget... in blood, sweat, and tears. Mostly his tears.
Roxanne watched with an indifferent expression as he released a Duskull of all things as the first pokemon. A Ghost-type? Curious choice considering what type of gym this was. She'll just have to see if he knew how to use the little shade properly.
Roxanne simply took a pokeball out of the belt she was wearing on her skirt and threw it into the air as well, though without any flourish. A Nosepass materialized from the pokeball, looking calm and serene in contrast to Roxanne's suddenly severe expression.
"And so we begin." She stated imperially as she gestured forward. "Harden and then two consecutive Rock Thows."
The Nosepass' body stiffened for a moment, becoming much harder. Then he raised an arm, lifting a lot of rocks that were surrounding him on his side of the field. Then he waved it, firing off the rocks as if they came from bullets from a gun that were aimed at the small ghost while simultaneously raising his other arm. Then he waved that too, sending the second wave of rocks right at said ghost type.

he ghost type examined its surroundings, curious as to where it was. Trainer had spoken of an important tournament of some sorts, or perhaps of a war? It was some kind of battle that had great meaning to Trainer; therefore, it had great meaning to him as well. Sebastian would do his best to impress Trainer and make Trainer happy, because Arceus knows he needs to be happy. Recently, Trainer has been worrying about his appearance when he is around the Gilded One. They all look similar in his eyes, but apparently there was some kind of difference and this difference was of the greatest importance. Nonetheless, Sebastian knew that no matter who or what his opponent was, he needed to do well for Trainer and himself.
From her belt, Roxanne pulled out a pokeball and threw it in the air, with no extra effects or anything. Just like a textbook example. In a flash of light, a blue rock fell to the ground and turned to face Jason and Sebastian, revealing its large red nose. "Gross.. A Nosepass." Jason muttered under his breath. He knew these things were unlike most Rock type pokemon, usually having magnetic abilities. However, before he had a chance to give Sebastian an order, Roxanne stated, "Harden and then two consecutive Rock Throws."
The Nosepass stiffened for a moment or two, giving Jason all the time he needed. "Sebastian, into the shadows! Stay there until you can find an opening, then blast it!" Jason told his phantom like pokemon. Nodding, Sebastian sank into its own shadow. Just in time too, because not a second later, the Nosepass hurled rocks at the very spot he had been. Taking the chance while it was focused on where he had been, Sebastian floated out of the shadow of the Nosepass and and blew a bluish flame into its back.

Roxanne wasn't surprised to see the Duskull sink into the shadows in order to dodge the move. She was already expecting something like that to happen considering what she knew of the species. Given a ghost-type's penchant for sneak attacks, there really was only one way to go about this while she didn't know where the creature lurked.
"Quick Rock Slide at 6 o' clock, Nosepass!" Roxanne called out just as something began to emerge from the shadows behind it. In response, the Nosepass' arms twitched as rocks from around him moved ground up and slid around to block his back from the bluish-white flames that his adversary shot from behind him, incidentally fusing the rocks into a solid wall in the process.
Roxanne pursed her lips and stared hard at the Duskull separated from the Nosepass by a wall. "Now improv Rock Throw!"
In response, the Nosepass pivoted around with one foot and then slammed both hands into the wall, sending out two chunks of it flying towards the Duskull at quick speed. The Nosepass then used the wall to brace himself and land back on his feet.

rom his viewpoint on the other side of the field, Jason had thought Sebastian had been pretty sneaky. Sinking into the shadows was Jason's order, and their standard way to begin things, and unfortunately, since he didn't know much about Nosepass, Jason had just told him to burn the little blue booger. Jason was glad when he had seemingly appeared out of no where from behind and began to conjure the blue flames of his spell; yet, Jason wasn't the only one who noticed the little phantom. Roxanne must have seen him too, because she barked at her Nosepass, "Quick Rock Slide at 6 o' clock, Nosepass!" The Nosepass did as it was told and formed a wall from the rocks surrounding them to block the fire from Sebastian.
"Shit." Jason muttered as the scene unfolded. Sebastian was stuck between a rock and a hard thing.. literally. There weren't too many options for either of them, Sebastian or the Nosepass. The Nosepass could try to squish Sebastian, and probably would, or he could try to trap him. Either way, Sebastian would be forced into the wall. Roxanne seemed to be analyzing the situation as well, her luscious lips pursed in such a way that he could have laid a kiss on them. Maybe for after he wins. "Shadows, now!" Jason shouted, hoping his ally had heard him.
The stone wall in front of him glowed with the eerie light of Hades' flames. The pyrokinetic spell had been blocked by the rock monster. Sebastian sighed, or at least sighed as best a ghost could, and braced himself for another dive into the shadow realm. That place of darkness held the dark thoughts and dreams Humans carried with them, eternally cold and silent. He would not hear Trainer's orders, but assumed that fleeing his more than likely re-death was better than nothing.

Roxanne wasn't surprised to see the Duskull evade the shots by slipping into the shadows again. Well... this was starting to become a battle of attrition. Well, she had the patience for one so she didn't mind it at all. In fact, Nosepass thrived in those sorts of situations, as did most other rock types. They were made to bear with the elements, after all.
"Nosepass. Prep yourself." Roxanne commanded as she looked at her Nosepass.
In response, the Nosepass stiffened for a brief moment before gesturing upward with both hands. A lot of rocks started to float up, along with the large fragmented wall, making a very intimidating sight that was akin to a firing squad at the ready. With those up in the air, it allowed the Nosepass more flexibility and reaction time to respond to anything that the Duskull might throw his way and maybe even hit it for some actual damage too. After all, the sooner it was out of the field the better.

I
t seemed like Sebastian had heard his orders and quickly faded into the shadows. Jason beamed with pride, glad the Gym Leader's pokemon hadn't even been able to touch Sebastian! Yet, there was an issue. All Sebastian had been doing was dodging and hiding in the shadows, not allowing the other pokemon to touch him and vice versa. Eventually, one of them would get tired and one of them would take damage...
Jason wasn't one for waiting, though. Or at least not knowing how long he would have to wait. He quickly turned around and looked down into his shadow, hoping Sebastian would be able to see him. They had practiced this a few times before, and it had worked each time, so Jason wasn't too worried about the lack of communication. Staring into his own shadow, Jason pulled his finger across his neck, making the motion of being decapitated. He then turned back around and searched the field for his phantom pokemon.
From the depths of the shadow realm, Sebastian let out a long needed sigh. True, this realm was cold and unwelcoming, but it was the place of his conception. As a Ghost pokemon, his spirit felt at ease in this unnatural plane; yet, he knew his time here couldn't last, least he turn completely ethereal. Where was he to go, though? The despicable golem had him trapped. Sebastian looked upward, searching for a spot to surface at, when he saw a flash of gold. Curious as to what it was, he neared it, and realized it was Trainer's fur! He watched as Jason made a motion, one that they had practiced many a times in the forest. "Trainer wishes me to curse the golem.. I shall do as Trainer wishes, it is the best way to win this tourney." the phantom pokemon said to himself as he wandered around the shadow realm, searching for a point to surface.
He finally found one, and with a giggle, surfaced in the shadow of a rock directly in front of the female Human controlling the monstrous rock creature. "Should the golem care to attack me.. It shall harm its own master!" Sebastian murmured, as he began the process of placing a death curse on the child of the earth. "... Morte." With the final component of the curse being spoken, Sebastian felt his energy depart and enter the shadow realm. From there, the curse should envelop the vile rock monster. As he gathered himself, recovering from the sudden departure of his life force, the shade did not notice the rocks hurdling towards him.
"Skull!" the little wisp shrieked as the rocks slammed into its body. Jason winced at the sound and didn't even notice what had happened to Roxanne, if anything happened at all, and shouted out of fear of his pokemon's undead life, "Sebastian, hide! Flee! Use the shadows of the rocks!" This was terrifying for the blonde trainer, for it had been a long time since he had battled anyone.
The chunks of the earth fell to the ground once they had met their mark. Extremely weakened by the attack, and the curse, Sebastian felt himself growing weaker. Where was he to go? All around him the earth loomed, proving to be too much of a match for the undead pokemon. "Use the shadows of the rocks!" Sebastian heard Trainer say. Aha! Escape he would, and safe he shall be! The hurt pokemon fled into the shadows of the earth, uncaring as to what would come next.

Golden light, tunnel white. If I run to you, would you stay? I might be a prototype, but we’re both real inside.
The minute that Roxanne saw something emerge from the rocks near her, she immediately took a couple of steps back in order to avoid actually being dragged into the fight. So the blond trainer and his pokemon were now using dirty -though still legal by League standards- tactics, eh? Not something she expected out of what looked like the typical overly-confident casanova-wannabe. That was good. It wouldn't do for the kid to be so easy to beat after all.
On the other hand, the Nosepass felt an ice-cold hand begin to squeeze at his very core, making his arms waver for the briefest of moments. However, the wave of rocks still struck true despite the brief loss in concentration, causing the shade to scream in pain. Once the rocks hit their mark, they fell to the ground and became inanimate.
Roxanne wasn't able to order the Nosepass to hit the creature before it sank into the shadows again, presumably to lick its wounds. She didn't know what the thing was going to do next, but she had to think of a way to coax the thing out of the shadows or else she might actually lose by attrition.
"Nosepass. Sliding wall!" At the order, the Nosepass hardened itself again and then raised its hands up into the air and began spinning them around in opposite directionslike he was trying to do a silly dance move.
Immediately, a lot of large rocks rose up into the air and shattered, and then started to spin around the Nosepass in walled rings of varying sizes and rotation speeds, never settling for one particular place for the Duskull to emerge. It was like watching a large blender in fast-forward, only in two directions that sometimes intersected.

hat was the Gym Leader doing?! She had ordered her pokemon to do.. something. And something it was doing! Once the order left her mouth, the Nosepass began spinning its arms, causing the rocks to float and spin in different directions, creating a whirlpool like thing. As the whirlpool of rocks whirled around the little blue pokemon, Jason worried about his own pokemon. How would he surface, and more importantly, was he okay? That rock slide looked particularly nasty.
Deep within the shadow realm, the injured ghost pokemon felt something shift. Sebastian had once again come below in an attempt to save himself and perhaps heal his wounds. The latter had not, and probably would not happen. Looking up, trying to find the disturbance in the shadowy world he was in, Sebastian realized the view of the surface realm was spinning and changing, always in motion and never staying still. What kind of madness was this?! Furious, and worried, the ghost pokemon rushed towards the surface...
... And found himself emerging from a shadow of one of the spinning rocks, but the force of the spinning rocks hurled him into the border of the field. Glowering at the rock type pokemon, Sebastian mumbled something to himself and began making odd motions with his paws. Eventually, a whitish blue ball of fire appeared in his hands and he hurled it at the golem like pokemon before phasing into the shadow of the wall, not wanting to be hit by any more rocks.

If it weren't unprofessional to show satisfaction at the hit, then Roxanne would have smiled when she saw that her tactic worked. It was something advanced she had been working on ever since Sapphire had trounced her all those years ago. It would make for a surprising rematch if she ever came back to challenge her gym again even though she already earned the badge.
But that was then. This was now. And now was this annoying challenger with the Duskull. A Duskull that just fired off a Will-O-Wisp in retaliation before dropping back to the other world even as the rocks from the whirlwind wall were already falling, their job done and their energy spent.
"Nosepass. Intercept." Roxanne commanded.
In response, the Nosepass tossed a rock to intercept the slow-moving fireball, watching as it turned to slag and snuffed out the fireball before falling to the ground as a lump of lava. Then he suppressed the sudden squeezing in his chest, breathing in and out for a bit before resuming concentration.
"Now. Flight of the bumblebee." In response, the Nosepass slowly rose his arms, bringing up two new batches of rocks. Then suddenly he started waving them around like crazy, making the the rocks go all around him in a seemingly-chaotic and haphazard manner that made no sense at all. If nothing else, this should make the Duskull nauseous if it ever came up from the rocks.

t was peaceful in the shadow realm that Sebastian now found himself in. He was alone once more, no longer having to see that horrendous pokemon of the earth. The way it stared into his undead eyes, the way it mocked him.. The golem like pokemon infuriated Sebastian and he would have his revenge on the cursed thing.. Eventually. For now, the phantom pokemon needed to rest and recover from his recent wounds. Then, oh, then the vile rock pokemon would taste his vengeance!
Jason watched as the red nosed pokemon cringed, although nothing touched it, and almost let a smile creep up his face.. Almost. The curse was taking affect and slowly draining the Nosepass of its life energy. Soon, the pokemon would be unable to continue lest he face death, and Jason doubted any right minded trainer would do that. It was a for sure win! As long as Sebastian stayed safe; however, at that moment, a storm of rocks began and Jason almost screamed from the sudden flurry of rock.
From deep within the shadows, Sebastian grew cold. He knew that he would need to surface soon, but telling from what little he could see in the surface, it would be a while before he could do that.

Golden light, tunnel white. If I run to you, would you stay? I might be a prototype, but we’re both real inside.
Sooner or later, even the dumbest of lowlifes would have been able to figure out that just staying inside their nice, cozy shadow would help them dodge the assault while waiting for the Nosepass to falter. But that piece of logic left Roxanne confused. Just why in the world were they delaying so much? What in the world were they waiting for? A cue? A trigger? Somehow, she felt that she missed something very important in one of the exchanges earlier. Something that she just can't put her finger on.
But what could it be? That question was eating away at her in the back of her mind while her Nosepass continued to perform the erratic dance of rocks in anticipation of the interloper. This was a puzzle that she simply had to figure out, and Roxanne was good at solving puzzles if nothing else.
While Roxane was busy solving this puzzle, the Nosepass took on yet another bizarre, seemingly-beatless pattern with the rocks while thanking his biology mentally. Why, you ask? Because it allowed him to stay upright while he was being besieged by the horrible squeezing feeling in his chest, which had gone much worse due to his efforts. It was like poison spreading through his veins, only worse.

O
nce again the Nosepass raised its arms and created another storm of stones, but Jason was ready this time. It didn't terrify him and have him screaming, no, he was prepared. With the stern look of a trainer, or at least that's what he hoped he looked like, Jason scanned the field for Sebastian. He knew that staying in the shadows could be disastrous for his health, especially when he was already wounded; yet, Jason couldn't see his little ghost pokemon anywhere. Was he still in the shadow realm?!
They were appearing, and they were coming by the dozens. The fellow shades who called this plane of existence home. Sebastian shuddered when he saw the first one, some kind of tormented spirit, appear in the distance. He knew what it meant.. He needed to get out of there, immediately. When one begins to see the spirits of the dead, that means one is on the border of death, or redeath. However, as many times as he tried, the phantom couldn't find a place to surface from. The openings were constantly moving and leaving; he didn't even have a chance to approach one before it was three or four yards away.
The cool grasp of death was surrounding Sebastian, and if he didn't leave the shadow realm, it would be a permanent death for him...

Golden light, tunnel white. If I run to you, would you stay? I might be a prototype, but we’re both real inside.
"Nosepass!"
It happened all of a sudden. One moment the Nosepass was spinning around the rocks with the ease of a maestro conducting his orchestra, and then the next the rock pokemon's arms suddenly dropped to his sides before he made a weird choking soun, topping over into a faint.
Roxanne had honestly no clue as to what had just occurred, but she had a hunch that the ghost hiding within the shadows had something to do it. After all, her Nosepass wouldn't go into a dead faint without a very good reason. She trained him to be tough and resilient after all, so there was a possibility that the Duskull might've cursed her Nosepass or something while it was out of the shadows. But she still had at least two more pokemon. She just had to play much better than she just did now.... because playtime was over.
Roxanne took a pokeball out and recalled Nosepass without a word. Whatever platitudes she would have tried to give would have gone to deaf ears anyway, so she didn't bother wasting her breath.
Sharp, red eyes narrowed at the blond trainer and the shadows around him. "Well played, trainer. But it's not over yet."
She then took out another pokeball from her pocket and released the second pokemon, a large living boulder with four arms and a mean smirk on his face.
"Prepare, Graveler." In response, the Graveler's body became much smoother, sparkling twice as he flexed his arms and grinned.

he little rock type pokemon had its arms raised in the air, controlling the storm of stones. Jason watched the whole time, worried for Sebastian and what would happen to him if he stayed in the shadows.. Suddenly, the Nosepass toppled over and the rocks in the air became inanimate once more. Roxanne shrieked as her pokemon fell to the ground and quickly pulling out a pokeball to return her fallen comrade. Her eyes bore holes into Jason, but he simply returned her anger with a smile. Jason didn't want to make an enemy out of the beautiful Gym Leader. Who knows what kind of League sponsored events he could get into if she brought him along as her date. Jason was well aware of the opportunities that lay before him, and he would grab them at every chance he got.
He wasn't the only one aware of opportunities, however. Sebastian noticed from the plane of the long dead what was happening on the surface, and he took the first chance he could to escape. With the swiftness of one who was approaching death once again, Sebastian surfaced out of the shadow of small rock, and breathed in the air of the Upper world. He looked around for his enemy, but soon realized that the curse had taken its toll on he golem pokemon, leaving him as the victor. Yet, it would seem that the female Human was not done and had many more allies to call upon to battle for her. All too soon, a hideous creature of stone, resembling a boulder with a wicked grin, appeared. It flexed its arms and parts of its body fell to the ground, making it smoother than it was before. Sebastian eyed it, and then look to Trainer in worry. This monster was at its peak performance, while he was worked and tired from his last conflict. Sebastian would do the best he could, but he would prefer if Trainer sent out one of his allies in his place.
Jason's victory was short lived, however, as Roxanne called out to him, "Well played, trainer. But it's not over yet." She then produced a pokeball and released a large boulder like pokemon, known as Graveler. Jason sighed when he saw it, but knew he would have to continue. Making eye contact with Sebastian, Jason knew he wouldn't last versus this monster. He recalled him quickly, and said quietly, "Thank you, Sebastian, for your hard work. Rest for now, I might need to you later." From his pocket, Jason found a familiar pokeball and tossed it in the air, causing an explosion of light to reveal his friend and teammate, Jasmine the Ralts. She eyed the area, looked at her enemy, and then turned to Jason for direction. He motioned towards the ground and the air, and simply stated, "Feel the earth as often as you feel the air." With that being said, her eyes began to glow pink as she prepped her body for teleportation and caused blades of grass to appear before the large boulder pokemon, ready to trip it.

The Graveler snorted when he saw the blades of grass start to creep towards him at a rate that seemed to be akin to a Shuckle's. Utterly pathetic. As if he was going to get caught in that! With a burst of sheer speed brought about by his boost, the boulder easily dodged the grass tendrils by dodging to the side. Then he waited for his trainer's next orders.
Despite the blond beating her Nosepass, Roxanne still felt the need to test the waters for this round. After all, a new pokemon was involved. And she knew just the thing. "Your call, Graveler."
The living boulder grinned evilly as tore a piece of the ground off and threw it at the Ralts. His grin fell a bit when the pokemon disappeared in a flash of light, but he didn't let that stop him, Instead, he took five large rocks from the earth, two in one hand and one in the rest of his hands. Then he started to scan around his surroundings.
As soon as the Ralts had emerged from the teleport, he lobbed the five rocks at it in quick succession using his increased speed, hoping that the faster speed would be enough to overwhelm even the Ralts. After all, it didn't have instantaneous reflexes right?
