Claire looked upon her student with a sense of pride. She was in the beginning of learning how to merge attacks. About three of the shots were turned aside in the first blast, and the second merged attack fired through the remaining and elevated because of the speed raise. The Ferrothorn was struck well, and shook its head with winced eyes. While most of the attacks were meant for blocking, the barrage broke through to the giant metal plant and did some damage to her as well. The Ingrain gave her some of her health back, but the scuffs on her fine metal coat were now having a couple of dents.
"You're getting the basics down for our next lesson already... combos. Combining moves are some of the deadliest techniques you can use. If I were you, I would make the dragonbreath the base of the attack so that you can get more damage into the static move. That way you can break through her defenses more easily. To demonstrate, I will combine Pin Missile with Rollout for a devastating attack... Maiden! Spiked Stone combo!"
The Ferrothorn started to form the rock for Rollout, but slammed the pin missiles into the rock, creating a huge spiked stone. Looking at the two Pokemon, she decided the Deino was the bigger threat, and shot the giant ball at the dragon. It took a bit of time for the iron plant to set up the attack, so she would wonder how Izumi would react to this next lesson.

Oh shi—wait a second, what’s that!? Her mind shouted as Claire explained the application of combination attacks in order to be able to take down distant enemies. I’m starting to gain an edge for Double-type battles… she thought with a grin as this time, a large chunk of rock was studded with the spikes from the Pin Missile—and then it went barreling her way. “Oh crap, seriously…?!” she hissed, more to herself as she quickly whistled the elegy; a sign for Riku to prepare his Dragonbreath attack. At the same time, after the final note dropped from the air, she then turned to Sora, and then added, “Now, Sora, raise your accuracy with your Hone Claws attack, then add an Air Slash to the exact moment Riku exhales!!” while adding to herself, whatever you do, don’t get hit by that thing… try and shred it as much as you can because that looks absolutely nasty!
“Ruff, rufflet!” she heard Sora squawk out, before hearing the sound of scraping—which she took to be the Hone Claws status increase—and then the mad flapping of wings echoed throughout the area; because the Rufflet would not let anything harm him—but more importantly, anything to touch his partner! “Rufflet!!!” she heard it scream, and at the same moment, the draconic blast of energy emerged from Riku’s mouth, which then flew on ahead—but the Air Slash was very close behind. She watched as the air suddenly took on a pulsing quality; and the current turned into some semblance of a wave of draconic energy as it screamed through the air, headed straight for the wrecking ball that was bearing down on Riku—evidently having a Dragon-type on any team was a threat to whoever else faced it!
The two combination attacks collided and shredding stone and thorn would be blown up from the spiked boulder. Claire clapped at the successful combination attack between her two Pokemon.
"You have some partners there. Setting up the timing of a combination is usually best done by a single Pokemon, but your team already has a natural rhythm. You have to be careful with solid attacks, though, because cracking through them can hurt you as well if you're not careful."
One of the rock pieces was stuck on one of the Ferrothorn's arms, letting green sap seep through that one weak point on the mighty steel Pokemon's body. Maiden's eyes narrowed, trying to see the damage done to Izumi's opposing Pokemon. Claire continued her lesson.
"Another important fact is that you are learning the art of using the steroid moves well. Your speed is what outgunned my Maiden's attack from you. I usually name my combos in order to confuse my enemies as to what the actual moves are. One of the more deadlier ones that I have on Shade, my Gengar, is the Black Hole combo... I... try not to use that one too often, though. I'm currently working on a triple combo with my Magmortar which... will be more than an adequate response to a Hyper Beam in the future. With my business, though, I haven't had complete time to train my Pokemon. It's refreshing to get out and train!"
Claire paused for a moment, trying to think of anything she had missed in the past few rounds.

Due to the force of the explosion that had resulted with the “wrecking ball” meeting the “dragonic scythes”, both Sora and Riku were promptly knocked off their feet, unable to hold their ground; and a huge dust cloud resulted from the impact it had caused. Hoping that she hadn’t caused a freaking crater (there was no way she was going to pick up on that from Claire) she then coughed as she tried to clear the smoke and saw that Riku was somewhat wobbling on his feet, yet still standing; whereas for Sora there were bits and pieces of rubble stuck on the tuft of feathers on its head. He squawked a few times, shaking and trying to remove the debris that had settled on him while Izumi listened to the explanation that Claire was conducting at the moment.
“I can see that,” she coughed, still waving the dust clouds away—to reveal that some part of her jacket was no longer black, but coated with a fine layer of rubble and ruin. She then reached up to her hair and felt something else in it—it had also been lodged with the dust that had scattered as a result of the impact the two combination attacks had made. “You’re really trying to make a counter for Hyper Beam, aren’t you,” she said with a chuckle escaping her lips. “That attack is absolutely nasty, I can tell you that…” she added, before squinting through the dusty haze and seeing that the gigantic bramble ‘mon was not without injuries either.
It was a bit unfair on Izumi’s part since her own ‘mons were not yet evolved, but she took it all in stride. “I only have one question—can entry hazards be combined to produce a layered effect? I remember Spikes… but I’m not sure if you could use it with the Toxic version of Spikes and another entry hazard as well... is that possible?” she asked, while adding in her mind, imagine the chaos that would erupt if that happened…
"That's a test that I've been wanting to try for awhile myself. I know that my Ferrothorn can use both Stealth Rock and Spikes with the right breeding. The only problem I see with that, however, is that one Rapid Spin would get rid of all of it. Stealth Rock is also a bit on the touchy side because it floats in midair. Someone with Teleknesis powers could easily turn the tables. After some pondering, I've been wondering about holding them all together with a lava plume to the ground in order to make it into a hell of hot coals which isn't easily moved."
Claire paused for a moment, seeing that even her Iron-clad Ferrothrorn was a little chewed up from that last blast. Pausing for a second, she decided it best to halt the training and tend to her Pokemon.
"There's a Pokemon Center not too far away. They usually have a shower area in the bathroom section for trainers and their Pokemon. Looks like your Pokemon could use a bit of a dust off. I think they'd enjoy a little wash and relaxation... and we're all a bit on the grungy side after that last one."
Claire didn't notice her tattered pant leg from a missed shard of rock. It wasn't until she noticed the sting that a bit of rock had scraped across her outer thigh. Putting a hand through her hair, she also noticed that the dust got though her hair.

Her question was met with another question—well, something that sounded like a theory that had yet to be put into practice. “So you’re still working on the idea? But I agree—you can melt it into the ground. I don’t know if Flamethrower would be better for it though… or it may just end up turning into a pile of ash,” she remarked, secretly thankful that she’d learned up on some more moves and knew of their effects—some of Bunji’s ‘mons had the moves she was studying about. “I know for a fact that Momo can make stuff levitate; so it would be all put to waste… or turn it into something like the giant wrecking ball you had your Ferrothorn fire off earlier… only with nastier effects if you could use the Toxic version of Spikes on it as well, they’ll be in for a surprise,” she added, chuckling at the mental image that had formed in her mind.
She quickly dug out two Pokeballs, and then summoned both Sora and Riku back into their respective residences, and continued to pat herself down—who knew that a lot of dirt would be dislodged when the two combination attacks had collided together! She then began to take off her jacket and shake it out, in an attempt to remove the lodged dust on it. “That’s a great idea, let’s go over there and get some rest… I’m sure our own ‘mons would want to recover from what had transpired today,” she said with a grin, and then remembering something else, “Oh, that’s right… the Pokemon Center you mentioned has this new feature… I hope it’s something good,” she added, quickly picking her way through the mess of a battlefield, being very careful to avoid the Spikes that had landed on the ground.
