She was playing a waiting game—and then the opportunity presented itself to her. “Thank you,” she began, reaching for the card. “I’d need this so that I can contact you once Momo’s moved on up in the world, as they say…” and taking a look at it before slipping it into her pocket. She then gave a furtive glance over at where the two ‘mons were going through the rounds of “Simon Says”—and this time she saw that Momo had seemingly levitated the cap of one of the condiments shakers off and let it float for a few seconds, before setting it down in front of her. Would Gengar do the same? She then turned her attention back to Claire and then that brought her back to the topic of discussion.
“Last week? Well… I’ve heard stuff through the grapevine; you know how fast rumors spread among Trainers. Did you see the crater near Viridian City? I came from there, looking for someone… said we would meet up somewhere in Viridian but when I got there, they hadn’t even contacted me. They could’ve at least dropped a line about not being able to show up,” she grumbled, pushing it all off to one side. “Also, that giant crater I saw in Viridian… it’s been roped off but I highly doubt that there’s any sign of anything from outer space suddenly taking a dive and crashing to the earth. I haven’t had time to check the local papers yet…” she trailed off, wondering if she’d heard about those rumors spreading around so quickly, it was starting to mutate.
Getting back to the topic, she continued, “Well, I can’t help but give a nod towards businesses that are just starting to take off from the ground… because I know how it feels to start from scratch; having to help run a family business back home and stuff… well, I hope that I could be of some use towards the cause,” she ended with another grin on her face before taking another sip of the half-filled glass in front of her.
Claire started laughing sheepishly when she started talking about the crater outside of Viridian. She started blushing pretty hard about the whole thing, but kept silent about it until after the last part.
"You ran a small business too? That's great! I could learn a lot of things from you I'm sure. Uhm... about that crater..."
Her face was red now and her smile one of those smiles that was trying to keep things in a happy tone while all chaos ensued. Her hand was now rubbing the back of her neck as she deferred her gaze from Izumi.
"Was it really that big that they had to block the thing off? I... ahhhh... let's ... just say uh..."
Izumi was likely going to hear about it anyway, so Claire kind of shrugged and looked very guilty. She kept a smile on her face to try and diffuse the news about the ordeal, but she never realized how big the crater was making an impact.
"Uhm... yyyyyeah. I kind of got into it with another trainer... he shot a Hyper Beam and... well, my Pokemon didn't have a lot of speed or defense to bloooooock... sooo... uhm, yeah. I countered with another big move and they both went boom..."
Shade looked at the floating shaker and frowned for a moment. That was something he couldn't do without Teleknesis. While he could float himself, he couldn't float any other objects. He rubbed the sides of his head trying to "concentrate" on the shaker to levitate it, but after awhile he just frowned and shrugged.

At the sound of “battle”, she could feel her ears twitch, as she needed to get down the road and just learn. She knew how to handle herself against wild ‘mons, but against other Trainers, well, there was a very high chance she could end up on the losing side. She could only blink out of surprise, as she’d heard what had happened—before remarking, “Wait, so you’re partially behind the appearance of that crater?” out of surprise, and she was just dumbfounded as Claire began the explanation… and she could tell that she was pretty embarrassed to talk about it! “Whoops, whoever did that must really have a grudge against you…” she trailed off, straining her thoughts back to the size of the crater. “Whatever fired off that Hyper Beam must want you gone…” she added a few moments later, her thoughts turning like gears at that time. I know someone who has Hyper Beam, but could it be…? Nah, how could it be him if we’re… he’s going on that mission and I’m tailing his every move just to make sure he doesn’t mess up… she thought, quickly shelving her hypothesis.
Going back to her earlier remark about the café, she then continued, “Well, my mother owns the establishment, but I help her out. Well, I used to… because I finally found my reason to go out and explore the world—to learn how to run a business. I helped her in the kitchen back then, while we were starting out… so I know how hard it is when you’re trying to make a change,” she added, and then looking over to where Momo was… cheating? Well, not exactly “cheating”, she’d just used her own psychic power to make the shaker float. Just to help Gengar along, Momo’s features twisted into a little smile, and then right in front of the Gengar’s eyes, the shaker then floated—Momo was helping him “cheat”, in a way. Watching as the shaker floated up in front of the Gengar’s eyes, Momo tried her best to look “occupied” elsewhere as the shaker began to dance in front of its field of vision, before coming down with a little clatter—and then Mom looked up, and what looked like a wink was sent the Gengar’s way.
"Some red-headed guy who liked to dress in cloaks. You don't seem like the type to hang out with people who claim they are evil and are willing to destroy entire cities to get what they want. Never gave me his name, but he knew some of the dirty laundry from my past and challenged me to a battle. His Steelix was a monster, but the explosion got him too. HIs Nidoking was worse, though."
The Gengar looked amazed at his own powers and tried to concentrate more until the shaker was left at the ground. He looked over to Momo with a pout, but when he got the wink, he crossed his arms and pouted even more. Looking over his shoulder, though, he gave a quick wink of his own with a coy grin on his face. Claire's redness was fading into a look of sadness as she mulled over her cup.
"I want to make a change, I really do... it's just that I have some dirty laundry that I need to clean up..."

At the mention of the words “red-headed”, Izumi almost bolted upright from her seated position; she was very familiar with a certain red-haired individual… and upon her mention of the red-head’s team, her suspicion solidified into something that was a resolve. But what would happen if she revealed her secret now? She tried to rearrange her face into an impassive mask; if but to hide that “epiphany” moment she had a few moments ago. “He sounds like someone I may have seen lately,” she said carefully, weighing the words she was saying—while looking over at the two playing ‘mons, one of them seemed to be pouting, but Momo was trying to do a headstand on the table now and looked downright silly. Wondering if the two were still playing or just trying to communicate now, she then turned her attention back to Claire, before catching the term “dirty laundry”.
Deciding not to pry, she then said, “Well, we all have our own share of… ‘dirty laundry’ if you may. I’ve had issues with a red-haired guy too… didn’t know that he could break promises. Actually I was supposed to meet that guy I just mentioned but he didn’t show up at all…” she trailed off; slightly annoyed at the way he tried to cover his tracks up no matter where he went. She then reached for the glass and took another drink, draining it and setting it down only much later. After that, she then realized that maybe she could ask her something… clearing her throat, she then asked, making sure to lower her voice while uttering the words, “Well, to be honest, anyone who survived that crater has to have skills… and since I just started my journey… would it be too much to ask if you could teach me how to battle? I can’t just keep battling against other wild ‘mons out there, because I have actual goals to aim for as well… maybe taking on the Gym Circuits in each region…” she ended, a flush of pink on her face at the end of that statement.
Claire's voice was somewhat sarcastic about the mention of the red head, and she went to chug the rest of her drink afterwards. She blinked for a few moments at the mention of learning how to be a trainer from her. Claire looked at her Gengar as he goofed off with Momo. Just now he was on the ground trying to do a headstand of his own in his game of copycat. He cheated however, and activated his levitation to hover just and inch off the floor, upside down, sticking out his tongue playfully.
"Well, I have been training for a long time. The bond between Trainer and Pokemon is very important. I got all the way up to the sixth badge when I was thirteen, but... then my father died. I didn't reinstate my Trainer's status until very recently, so I lost all the previous badges I had for being inactive for all these years. I guess that battle proved that I still got it in me if he was as strong as you say."
She leaned her head on her arms as they rested on the table. After thinking for a few moments, she raised her head and smiled.
"Sure! We can consider it payment for our future endeavors. It'll also be an opportunity to see our dear Momo grow up."

At the mention of the badges Claire had gathered, her ears perked up, and then she leaned forward to listen intently. “Wait a moment,” she began, after she agreed to the plan that she’d laid out, “Do they take away your badges if you’re not an active, battling Trainer?” she began, wrapping her head around the idea—so it was an endless journey for the goal she could see, but not yet quite reach. “I never knew that…” and then kept a mental note to herself to always be active and engage in as many battles as possible. “So once you start, you have to keep going until you get them all… regardless of region,” she added – more to herself than to Claire. Once she saw what Momo and Claire’s Gengar were up to, she could only chuckle… and then caught an eye at the time… “Whoops, look at the time, I believe I’ve kept you here for too long!” she apologized, quite flustered at the oversight.
Well, I can’t help it but hit it off with someone who has similar goals like me… starting from nothing to make something, and to be well-known… she thought as she quickly whistled a three-note call, and Momo then turned around, before plodding and twirling over to where she was. “I can’t keep you for too long now, can I? I just realized,” she began, giving Claire a bow as she stood up, and recalled Momo back into her temporary residence. “I’ll be sure to get in touch with you once Momo’s evolved, so that we can push through with the plan. Would that be alright with you?” she asked, straightening up and then bowing once more, and adding, “Thanks for hearing me out and listening to my stories,” while in the back of her mind, what the hell have you been up to Bunji?! Getting mixed up with someone who hadn’t done anything wrong… you’re crazy! She then pulled out an extra piece of paper and scribbled something on it, and then passed it to her, saying, “Here’s my number, should you need to contact me.”
She then made her way to the exit of the café, but not before stopping to turn around and face Claire one more time. She then added, “Well, whoever that red-haired guy is that attacked you, he’s crazy to attack someone who just wants to start and live an honest life in the world,” before giving her another bow, and then added, “I’ll await our first sparring session, if you may—I have to check out the Pewter Museum now,” before turning tail and walking off into the heart of the city.
Claire nodded at Izumi as she had to leave, Shade giving a little pouty face at Momo getting balled up. Clair stood up and returned Izumi's bow, accepting her information with a smile.
"I get the feeling I'll be seeing him again, so stay around. I'll be around the Mt. Moon area for awhile to set up the two ATS stations on the routes! I'm so glad to have you on board with me, Izumi! Have fun in Pewter!"
The businesswoman waved as Izumi left, having several things running through her mind. This woman knew about that red-head who uncovered her at Viridian. He had fought with great ferocity, and having enemies like him would be problematic. Izumi would be an excellent pupil and testament to her legacy if she could train her in her method of training. The problem would be keeping her alibi that she was no longer with Team Rocket if the red-head returned. She did have a plan if that would turn into a problem and it would require Kooga to turn her into the good guy.
Taking her computer from the chair, she decided that it would be prudent to stage something in order to assert her "innocence". She would take this up with her boss and ponder a proper course of action without announcing Team Rocket to the world.
