Achilles saw that the Escavalier landed on the ground first despite his own descent being boosted by the Flamethrower. However, the difference was only a few moments, which meant that he landed as soon as the steel pokemon began his charge. Trying to charge a ground pokemon on land? Foolish. If the fight wasn’t so serious, Achilles would’ve scoffed.
Time to show this guy the error of his way!
Achilles was about to stomp on the ground to create another massive earthquake that will stop the Escavalier in his tracks when his actions were suddenly derailed by his trainer’s order. ”Double jump!”
Frowning even as the Escavalier stopped in front of him, Achilles went through with the stomp. Howver, instead of summoning another set of powerful vibrations a rock jutted out from underneath his foot instantly, making the Gabite shoot up in the air. Once he was up in the air, he immediately jumped off his improvised perch, just in time to see a massive orb of power pulverize the rock like it was nothing.
Oh. That’s why his trainer asked him to do that particular tactic. Thank Arceus there was a second set of eyes looking out for him in this fight, not just his own.
With a grin, the Gabite fired off another fast Flamethrower right at the Escavalier as it was probably ending that jab. He continued the stream for a few moments until he landed on the ground with a huff and used Earthquake to set off another round of powerful vibrations that rocked the entire gym.
He didn’t want to admit it, but his throat was starting to feel a little itchy from all of the constant flamethrowers while there was a sandstorm brewing. He didn’t know how big brother Rion managed to stand using his flames so much… but then again he was a fire type, so it must come naturally.
{Battle Summary}Achilles dodges Focus Blast with a Stone-Edge boosted jump, and then fires off a Flamethrower. When he landed on the ground, he set off an Earthquake.
I know that this is what I want, this is what I need
Faster. Faster. Just a tad bit faster... Escavalier seemed to be getting the hang of how fast Gabite was moving, but for every gain he made, Zernebog would cover for it with a quick order or maneuver. It was an impressive display of using a Pokemon's strengths and weaknesses to their fullest, in Ferris' opinion. Considering this was coupled with a sudden evolution and still using that to his advantage, she was fully aware of his probability of winning this battle.
But he'd still have to earn that right, and she'd be damned if Arthur just gave it up. He was learning the speed of the land dragon, how it moved and how it used its distance attacks. The Focus Blast would have hammered home had it been charged a second or two earlier, but it instead smashed the pedastal upon which it stood. Escavalier continued forward through the rubble, doing his best to use the shattering rocks as some kind of forward cover but still getting a good dousing of flames coating his body for a moment. Steel/Bug typing was not kind to him in this moment.
Ferris herself stood mostly still this time, growing used to the Earthquakes; she simply adjusted how she had her stance and posture. Arthur felt himself rocked a bit, slanting for a moment to the side. Earthquake didn't hit him like hot fires did. The Sandstorm was still ongoing and rather than fight that weather, it seemed time to try and put that to their advantage. It was time to position the pieces where they needed to be.
Arthur, without moving, charged up a Focus Blast and made it clear he was aiming right for the Gabite; once fired, however, it would actually hit about half a foot above Gabite, having been purposely aimed high. Escavalier moved the moment the attack left his lance tips, moving forward in a linear motion right behind the attack. Right before the attack seemed to deviate up too much, he broke left, both lances charged up for an X-Scissor attack to be launched from the Gabite's right flank. Right after, Arthut planned on using the momentum gained from the attack to headbutt the dragon with an Iron Head attack.

Zernebog frowned as he watched as the strange metal knight started to charge Achilles again with another Focus Blast. The knight didn’t look stupid enough to try a tactic that had already failed multiple times against Achilles, even with a supposedly-guarranted hit in Aerial Ace. After all, it was a Gym Leader’s pokemon and trying the same tactic till the end didn’t seem like this one’s style at all.
Something was up. Well, if he wanted to do a replay, then he was going to do one of his own.
”Achilles! Down!” Achilles immediately dived down and tunneled back down into the earth, effectively dodging the Focus Blast that had left the tip of the creature’s lance… that was never aimed for him anyway.
However, that wasn’t the only thing Achilles had inadvertently dodged. He managed to get away from an X-Scissor attack and some sort of attack involving the knight’s head. Iron Head, if he remembered right. Good. Glad to know that he was correct in assuming that the charge wasn’t nearly as straightforward as it seemed.
Now, he had promised himself not to do it earlier, but… that thing just wasn’t going down. Besides, a small one couldn’t hurt, right? Just one localized around the area the bug was standing should be enough.
With that in mind, he crossed his arms again and pretended to wait for Achilles to rise back up on the ground, complete with impatient foot movements. In actuality, his foot made a subtle but very firm circle on the ground to give Achilles his next order.
From underneath the ground, Achilles grinned evilly at the vibrations he could feel from his trainer’s side of the field. So he wanted a localized sink hole, eh? That could be arranged~! The Earthquakes he had been constantly using made his new task even easier too!
The Gabite started to dig around the area underneath the field, creating borders to his small sink hole that were far from either trainer and close to where he could feel the Escavalier. Once that was done, he started to remove the dirt and soil that was below the knight, working his way from the border to the center….
I know that this is what I want, this is what I need
This simply wouldn't do. Rather than move side to side or up like she had hoped, Digging around under her gym floor was getting to be like a bad habit. She started tapping her own foot out of restlessness - that sucker was going to pop up at some point, and they had to be prepared. Ferris, still tapping her left foot and keeping her right arm still so that it still blocked the sandstorm near her, called out. "Arthur! Rain Dance, then blast him out of hiding!"
Oh yeah, Escavalier was more than happy to do that. He shot up another orb of aqua fresh goodness, spreading and cancelling out the Sandstorm and letting out the soothing drops of rain. It splattered all about slowly, as if washing away the previous elements of the battle. Now it was time for the fun part.
Arthur seemed to pulled back his lances for a moment, eyeing the ground under him intently. Somewhere under there was his foe... and he'd nuke the fucker out of there. A Focus Blast charged on each lance, the bright orange energy almost seeming out of control - while Arthur was well versed in the use of the attack, it was beginning to show that he was having trouble stabalizing the energy. That didn't stop him from 'jumping' up a bit before throwing a left hook directly under him, and then a right, sending two highly explosive attacks right at the ground. Let's see the ground dragon eat some Focus Blast attacks while he was under the dirt.

The buffeting sands turning into light rain didn’t bother Zernebog in the least. After all, the soggy earth underneath their feet could only work to his advantage. That was why he just stood there, looking utterly bored and unimpressed as he watched the knight do his work. Looks like another waiting game.
BOOM! Or not.
Gold eyes widened when they spotted the Escavalier carpetbombing the ground, trying to destabilize the earth enough to hurt Achilles. While normally a tactic that he would praise, considering what he ordered his Gabite to do underneath the earth it ended up being an utterly ridiculous idea instead. Stupid, even. Not that neither the knight nor the woman knew that yet, but they will in a few moments or less.
It was too late for him to warn Achilles of it though, and besides the message would be muddled in transition anyway. He just hoped that he remembered enough of his lessons to know what to do.
”Hm.” Zernebog smirked as the ground underneath the Escavalier began to collapse into a deep hole at an alarmingly-fast rate….
If Achilles could pale, he would have already done so the very instant he felt something very powerful strike the ground and destabilize the sink hole he was creating just as he was finishing it. While he had wanted the sink hole to collapse in of itself eventually, he didn’t want that to happen while he was still in the hole!
In response to the collapsing tunnels he had made, Achilles frantically started digging towards the surface. Luckily, he was near the edges where the shallowest parts of the sink hole were, so it was easy to dig himself out. However, the power in the strikes was so devastatingly powerful that Achilles wasn’t quite able to get himself out all of the way in time, subjecting himself to falling debris and damaging himself before he was able to get out. Thank Arceus for his typing.
Hoping that the Escavalier hadn’t managed to take himself out of the deep hole (he was fast enough now to create one that was as deep as approximately three times the knight’s height), Achilles then tried to bury him by setting off another Earthquake, using the vibrations to move the mud and soil to try and cover the creature as well as damage it.
Whether or not he was successful, once the vibrations died down Achilles huffed and followed off with another round of powerful vibrations with Earthquake. He hoped that this one will deal twice the damage and knock the creature out once and for all... provided that it actually hits. He was starting to get winded now that his second wind was gone, though the rain soothed some of his weariness away. Taking part in two consecutive battles with experienced pokemon was starting to take its toll on him.
{Battle Summary}The Focus Blast carpet bomb triggers the sink hole/Dig attack underneath the Escavalier, damaging both parties. Achilles then attacks with two consecutive earthquakes.
I know that this is what I want, this is what I need
Ferris' eyes widened in response to what the Focus Blasts revealed. Well, that was going to be a pain to repair, but for the moment of the battle it was ingenious; what better way to try and catch a Pokemon off guard than by gutting the floor beneath them? She hadn't quite seen this tactic before so it certainly was a pleasing change. What a clever way to use Dig.
Arthur, however, was not very pleased to be dropping into a sinkhole that was dropping in on itself. He fell in, struggling against it as Gabite was noping the fuck out of it. The armored insect managed to stay above the rising tide of dirt for the time being, still disgruntled as generally getting dented and scratched up from the whole thing. Arthur's eyes glared upwards to where he figured the damn dragon was, and right as he was about to begin his ascent, the first tremor hit.
Shit. Escavalier rocked into the side of the wall and was briefly coated by the debris falling in, becoming damaged by the energy within. Arthur was trying to get this crap off of him before another Earthquake hit, basically worsening his situation and angering him further. He was going to have none of this any longer.
After a few seconds - a few seconds too long, in his own opinion - he dug himself out and prompty leaped up. He, under any other circumstance, would have had difficulty making any jump like that, but the wispy lines surrounding him suddenly gave him the closest to a double jump he was getting, landing at the edge of the sinkhole and not wasting anymore time. Arthur shoved forward to be at Gabite's front door, entire body aglow with the energy that looked eerily like Focus Blast being charged.
However, rather than firing off any kind of orb or blast, Escavalier seemed to release some kind of... aura. A very close range aura to be sure, but the Reversal basically exploded from him before he tried to smash sand dragon with his lance, which the energy pummeled out from. Letting out a sound that could only be described as a battle cry, Escavalier released the rest of the Reversal with a left hook, both attacks intending to smash into Gabite.

Ruuuuuumble!
As soon as Achilles saw the ground collapse over the Escavalier and trap him in order to be hit with a second Earthquake, the land shark started to raise his arms in triumph.
However, Zernebog knew better than to assume that the Gym Leader’s supposed ace would go down that easily. ”Achilles. It’s not over yet. Prepare yourself.”
Sure he could be being paranoid and the knight really was unconscious within the closed hole, but it was better to be safe than sorry. A lesson that finally got drilled into his head after years and years of dealing with the fallout of his carelessness.
Upon hearing his trainer’s order, Achilles lowered his arms with a pout and readied himself by assuming a facsimile of a fighting position as he stared down the sink hole. A moment after that, his fears were proven correct when the knight busted himself out of the hole and charged towards the land shark. There seemed to be something… off about his demeanor, but Achilles wasn’t sure what. He wasn’t a mind reader or an empath, but there was just something about the way the knight just shoved his way to him that seemed… almost rushed. Frenzied even.
If he hadn’t trained with Zernebog’s main pokemon, he might’ve been intimidated by the display. But after seeing Perses and Erebus at some of their most terrifying and gruesome, the knight was like a cute Growlithe in comparison. The thought helped him focus and not panic like a headless chicken, especially when he started glowing like one of those Focus Blasts he likes to use so much.
Speaking of which, that looked ominous. Achilles tsked and seemingly waited for the Escavalier to strike at him twice with those glowing lances. At the very last moment though, he stepped back a couple of times so fast that anyone looking would still see him standing there while simultaneously leaving a present. Instead, that was an afterimage that the knight managed to hit with his glowing lances.
Right as the afterimage vanished, a sharp rock emerged from the ground right at where the Gabite used to stand and rocketed towards the Escavalier’s exposed face, with the pointed end leading the way. Time will tell if it was fast enough to retract his lances and remove the rock before the attack managed to strike, especially at the awkward angle it was coming from.
I know that this is what I want, this is what I need
Some people enjoyed smashing things. It was a relief activity for them; the act of destruction was one of beauty and grace, where they got to take every last inch of their stress and compile it all into the form of a baseball bat destroying a thirteenth century vase that was, no doubt, priceless but nowhere near worth the sudden gratification brought by the act of annihilation. Yes, to some, the act of smashing was a ritual of relief.
It was not so for Arthur. Arthur loved to smash because he did it so very well. He wasn't fast, he wasn't particularly clever, and he didn't dress up for primpy contests. What he did do, however, was destroy. Two solid lances and a body built for streamlined joyrides of mass chaos. The Escavalier was, quite simply, meant to attack and attack and attack.
So when he didn't get to smash - when instead, he hit yet another faded copy of the dragon - he got even more enraged. No immediate relief, no pleasure, no satisfaction. Instead he was left with a devastating roar as the Stone Edge threatened to impact him. He met the Stone Edge head on - quite literally, an Iron Head attack backed by his Steel-typing to smash down onto the Stone Edge with impressive force, shattering the rock. There was a moment where, before gravity took hold of the rocks, Arthur's eyes found Gabites and sent him the message. That rock was going to be you.
Ferris folded her arms in another way, still feeling the rain upon her skin, although it was beginning to lighten up to an almost fine misting. Her eyes smiled for her. Sure, she had already figured she had lost this war - even if not, Zernebog would just come again and again at her until he did win. He was to surpass her in this war. But this battle... this particular instance of knight versus dragon, this knight was going to win. He had lost his restraints.
Escavalier wasted no time in bolting forth, this time to the right before zigzagging to the left, and then the right one last time, right lance drawn back for another Twinneedle attack that would follow up into another explosive Reversal attack at close range. Arthur was going to stay in his face the entire time.

As Achilles looked into the Escavalier’s eyes, he remembered something that Pops told him some time ago. A little fear is healthy. It keeps one alert and alive. He had said. But never show that fear to your enemy unless you can use it to your advantage. Otherwise, they will use it against you. Erebus was quite possibly the greatest example of that statement that the young dragon had ever encountered.
Compared to that evil psycho, the knight’s threatening was nothing even in the face of that intimidating display. Still, it didn’t stop him from being a little intimidated by the display. That knight had serious rage issues. Maybe he needed to see one of those humans with the long couches and the notepads? Well, he could probably work this to his advantage; after all Pops always said that the best opponent was an enraged one because they always made mistakes.
Taking the briefest moment to glance discreetly at his trainer even as the knight was beginning to charge, he saw him gesture downwards when he uncrossed his arms and placed them at his sides with a grin. Right. Another underground excursion it was then!
When he turned his attention back to the Escavalier, he saw that the knight was already committed to charging at him at full speed. The Gabite wasted no time in diving underneath the ground again and tunneling through it, making another hole and a tunnel in the ground in as well as dodging the assault that the Escavalier was doing.
Once he was underground, the Gabite set about creating another sink hole where the Escavalier was without any prompting. He wanted to see if the knight was angry enough to try and provoke him out of his natural habitat before he wanted to like last time, so he was quickly removing the dirt from around where he could feel the knight was above the surface.
As Zernebog watched, uncaring of the rain that continued to fall on his skin and clothes, he couldn’t help but think of the repair bills that this battle was probably going to cost the Gym Leader. After all, using Ground pokemon tended to create large amounts of structural damage to… well… any place the battle was in, really. The popularity of Earthquake and Dig saw to that. Hopefully he wouldn’t have to help repair it since this was a sanctioned Gym Battle and all.
I know that this is what I want, this is what I need
Ferris watched in slight amusement as the Gabite dipped himself back into the safety of the dirt below. Was he really going to do this again...? The Gabite seemed to rely on being hard to hit. Perhaps this meant that one, good solid hit would be all Escavalier needed. However, she doubted she could reign him in to focus on that at this point. No, her Escavalier was at a point of battle raging, and all she could really do was let it work it out. He'd calm down after he secured a victory, and probably wouldn't stop until then.
Arthur himself seemed to keep going when the Gabite dugged down, sweeping over the hole with the missed attack. As he haulted his movement, the peculiar orange aura over him never quite left as his ability kicked in. Swarm was now powering up all of his insectoid assaults. This was, however, not on his mind. What was on his mind was shoving one lance down into the hole the Gabite vanished into and firing off not one, not two, but three Focus Blast attacks - none of them at the power the previous Focus Blast onslaught was, as these were made from unstable energy due to a lack of actual focus being overidden by the need to destroy, with each Focus Blast fired in intervals of five seconds. It was going to be a mess of explosions, but perhaps it would drive the rabbit out of its whole.
Meanwhile, Ferris could feel the rain lightening up just a bit more. Seems like the shower was almost over. A single hand ran up to her wet hair and pushed it back over her shoulder, This was coming to an end soon.

The minute that Achilles felt the first vibrations, he smirked wickedly. That meant that the Escavalier was trying to force him out of his hole again, regardless of the consequences.
Perfect.
Despite his muscles starting to ache from their constant use throughout these two fights, Achilles sped up the pace and quickly went out of the ground from a new hole near where Zernebog was just as the third set of vibrations from whatever attack the knight was using hit, forcing the ground beneath it to finally collapse in a shallower, but larger sinkhole.
However, as soon as the Gabite was out of the ground, he immediately triggered an extremely powerful Earthquake, sending vibrations all throughout the gym in an attempt to bury the knight the same way he had previously done. The land shark paused for a few moments as he waited for the height of the earthquake to pass before grinning and then stomping on the ground again, sending a fresh wave of vibrations coursing through the entire area again and amplifying the previous ones in the process through that resonation stuff that his trainer always coached him about.
The rain was getting weaker, but the gym floor was still getting muddier. Zernebog didn’t really care because even the slippery mud was enough to make him trip and lose his balance during an earthquake like this one. He just hoped the gym can withstand the battle, though, but he had a feeling that this entire thing would end soon… like the rain.
I know that this is what I want, this is what I need
"That won't work twice!"
Ferris' voice shot out in a burst of confidence; if he was really going to try the same maneuver of such a magnitude on her twice, he was in for it. "Arthur, blast off!" It was all that she needed to say at the moment for the knight on crumbling earth to take one jab downwards and fire off another hastily-made Focus Blast, the explosion damaging himself but blasting him upwards, leaving him to float for the merest of moments suspended like a shell of smoke fired from a cannon...
... and there he was, emerging from the ground. "Arthur, there!" Gwyneth's voice signaled a brief spin before another concentrated burst of energy, blasting Escavalier in a downward curve to Gabite's location, where an accelerating insect was ready to smash and grab. Ferris knew that he had probably done enough damage to himself to negate the dodging of the earth tremors, but... well, hopefully this would be worth it.
Arthur's eyes were bright yellow with concentrated fury as his body glowed, ready for a close-range Iron Head that was sure to get this party ball rolling. Party ball, in this case, was code word for cracked skulls.

Achilles was already committed to creating the second set of the tremors when he saw the Escavalier rocketing towards him. There was no way that he would be able to dodge in time. Well, not completely anyway. One way or another, he wasn’t going to be able to ghost his way out of it this time.
”Some things are worth repeating.” Zernebog suddenly spoke up with a smirk. Achilles’ eyes widened as he practically heard the smirk in his trainer’s voice. Why would he want to…?
Achilles smirked. Oh. Perhaps he didn’t have to.
Achilles released a jet of flames right at the charging Escavalier, meeting it head-on. However, instead of stopping him cold in his tracks like he normally would have with his flames, the charging Escavalier managed to push it back because it was weakened by the light rain. However, the momentum was probably slowed down due to the flames because of its elemental superiority despite being weakened by the rain.
But that was exactly what Achilles and Zernebog wanted. As soon as the Gabite felt the hard impact of the Iron Head on his entire abdomen, he gritted his teeth and immediately spun with the blow and delivered a spinning uppercut aimed at the Escavalier’s sizable head. A moment later, the air around him erupted into a vicious twister even as he went off the ground in his spinning uppercut, leaving behind a trail of blazing light to spiral outwards from the twister because of his claw.
Zernebog was smirking all the while, knowing that his pokemon would get the message loud and clear. And he did. Some things are worth repeating indeed.
{Battle Summary}Achilles uses a weakened Flamethrower to absorb most of the damage from the STAB Iron Head, and is then hit by said Iron Head. He then immediately retaliates with a STAB Shoryuken Dragon Claw + Twister combo. Twister has a 30% chance of flinching the target.
I know that this is what I want, this is what I need
Ferris knew it was over the moment the Flamethrower was released. She folded her arms tight across her abdomen, witnessing her Escavalier pound in home with the Iron Head only to be retaliated with with the technique used against her Pawniard. It was a thing she'd expect out of a coordinator, honestly; a display of power and beauty all in one, smashing right into her Pokemon. Ferris blinked as Escavalier didn't seem to budge from the attack once the whirlwind of draconic energy subsided; could it be he was unaffected...?
...no. Escavalier was still up, but the lights were out upstairs. The Gabite would have seen that the bug-type's eyes were completely empty of anything awake; he was basically only upright because all of his muscles had been frozen on the thought of assaulting the young dragon. Ferris waited for a moment as he was still, then held out her Pokeball in her palm and recalled him. That was it, it was all done. Ferris turned her steely blue eyes to her Pokeball, her free hand on her hip as she lightly smiled and spoke softly. "You did well, Arthur. Rest up."
Ferris paused for but a moment before beginning her walk to the sidelines, circumventing the cracks and holes in her arena floor. She had one hand reaching into her suit jacket's inside pocket, retrieving a small object within and holding it in a closed fist, waiting on Zerne to make his way over to meet her halfway at the sidelines.
"Zernebog Romanov. Well done." She started with a smile, giving the man a nod of respect. "You've proven that you can take the cold touch of steel and break through iron defenses, all while keeping your own cool. You and your Pokemon did well and you've earned this. The Hassun City Gym Badge."
Ferris held out the previously-fisted hand and opened it, palm wide to reveal the Gym badge, ripe for the taking. Once taken, she placed both hands against her hip to give a slight grin. "Well met, Zernebog. Well met."

When Achilles landed back on the ground, his jaw nearly dropped when he saw that the Escavalier was still standing. In fact, he didn’t even budge from the strike! Was this some new undiscovered technique that absorbed all of his strikes without some sort of visual cue? It couldn’t be that he was immune to Dragon-type attacks because his attacks definitely worked on that other metal dude he fought, Jarvis or Jarjar or something.
Whatever other theories that were starting to simmer inside Achilles’ head suddenly died a violent death when he looked at the Escavalier’s eyes. The lights were on… but no one was home. If he didn’t know any better and had the bruises to prove otherwise, he might’ve even said that the pokemon was a statue instead of a living creature.
However, just when Achilles was about to poke him and make sure that he was really unconscious, a red light suddenly struck the frozen form of the Escavalier and absorbed it, pulling it away from him. He watched as the red beam retracted back to a pokeball held by that human lady’s hand before blinking and finally slumping his shoulders with a weary smirk and a weak chuckle.
It was finally over. He had won his first Gym battle. Was Pops proud?
Achilles turned around and looked at Zernebog, who gave him a big smirk and a thumbs-up, causing his mouth to quirk up even further into a full-on smile. That was all he wanted, and it looked like he got it. YES!
After giving Achilles the first of his congratulations –the food and other things would have to wait until he was out of the gym- Zernebog turned his gaze towards the Gym Leader, who began to walk towards the sidelines. Curiosity peaked, he watched her until she stopped halfway and began to look at him expectantly. It took him a few seconds of staring back with an awkward silence before he finally figured out that he was supposed to meet her there.
He resisted the urge to grin sheepishly and just started to move towards the sidelines as well, easily navigating through the various holes, cracks, and debris that littered the muddy floor of the arena. Once he had arrived to meet her at the halfway point, she actually began to commend him on his victory.
This time, Zernebog actually did begin to grin as she presented him with the badge. ”Sweet. Thanks~!” He remarked as he took the badge into his heads with reverence.
Upon hearing the compliment, Zernebog’s ego grew a tad bigger, but this time he remembered not to antagonize the loser and mock them for their failure. ”Heh, you too Gwyneth. Your pokemon were definitely strong. Gave Achilles something to remember by, especially tomorrow. Your Gym too, by the looks of it.”
He then blinked a bit, remembering something. ”You mind if I call ya Gwyneth? I know I already used it, but might as well ask anyway.”
