Ramona Albarn stood, tall and proud as she inspected the battlefield –a flat expanse of grass that was absolutely natural and perfect for a Pokemon battle- with her arms folded under her prodigious chest. Her cerulean hair, having quickly grown long to reach the small of her back once she stopped cutting it, blew in the wind, the faint smell of distant ozone from the sea entering her nostrils with each inhale. Instead of her usual, tomboyish garb, she wore a primarily red school uniform and short skirt.
Crimson eyes scanned the figures in front of her: Hunter, her Blaziken, was stretching, getting ready for the upcoming battle; Ricki, one of Ramona’s best friends who was currently in a very, very bad mood as a result of an unexpected… parting, as it were, with her life partner, Koa Inaku, stood about a good ten yards from the two of them. The tournament was fast approaching, and Ramona finally moved from Sinnoh to the Sevii Islands in preparation.
Once there, she had met up with Ricki and, seeing how bad of a mood her friend was in, offered to be the girl’s personal punching bag until she felt better. Richelle had declined the offer (and the second, more peaceful proposal to hug it out) and instead came up with the idea to battle. Of course, the bluenette didn’t complain. After all, they were both going to be participating in the tournament, but they’d also likely meet up in the brackets sometime, so why not get a little bit of practice in while they were at it? And it would be a good chance to learn how much Hunter had grown, as well as what would happen when the two of them had a Pokemon battle.
“Same rules as always, Ricki?” she called, referring to what they called the “Frival Rules”, which dictated that they would each pick one Pokemon to battle –in her own case, Hunter, and in Ricki’s case, likely Rep the Lucario.
To say Richelle Jace was in a very very bad mood was rather close to accurate. The typically happy-go-lucky and loud and proud Ricki once was was hidden under a rather frustrated look. She didn't want to punch Ramona; she was done with punching things in her rage. After injuring her arm from punching a metal wall, Ricki had started the slow process of trying to control her temper. Granted, it was obvious she still struggled with it, but it was clear Ricki was taking steps towards a more mature and controlled young woman. The emotional green-haired trainer was keeping calm and waiting for Ramona to reach the other end of the imaginary battlefield.
A Tournament was coming up, and after the incident with Ricki's old gang, Arcane, in Sinnoh, Rep was starting to get just as frustrated as Ricki. Running into an abusive trainer, and various battles that Ricki held him back from, he was anxious to get back on the field. Seeing his old rival that was Hunter the Blaziken, he was actually shifting foot to foot like a boxer in excitement. Though he kept a straight face, one look at the Lucario's eyes would reveal a fire burning and ready to blaze. The moment Ricki had offered a battle rather than punching Ramona, or the sappy hug, Rep was ready to take off. As he began to step ahead of his trainer, he stripped himself of the harness he almost always wore and dropped it next to Ricki.
“Same rules, and don't you dare hold back!” Ricki announced, before taking a deep breath. Staring at Rep's back, she watched the black flaps on the back of his head begin to rise up, his Aura Sensing skills kicking in. He could feel the energies of the two eager to battle trainers, especially his own trainer's aura. She was just as fired up as him, if not more. When her eyes locked on him, Rep turned slightly to her. Her glare slowly turned into a smirk as she stated “And don't you dare hold back either, Rep.” He seemed to nod and look back forward at the Blaziken. “I'll start this battle off, Rama!” Ricki announced. “Rep, prep!”
Rep gave a bark and knelt down, his body giving off a red glow as he used Work Up to increase his attack and special attack. The moment the glow began to dull, Ricki immediately followed up the previous order. “Full speed ahead!” Rep suddenly took off from his kneeling position into an Extreme Speed. Flying across the battlefield as a mere blur to the eye, the Lucario was incredibly difficult to keep an eye. He fully intended to use his speed to emphasize the hit directed dead center at Hunter’s torso with an powerful Focus Blast. Weeks, possibly months of withhold frustration was being released into these attacks, and the Lucario was certainly not holding back at all.

Ramona smirked at her friend’s statement. “As if I could afford to hold back against you, especially when you’re like this.” Her focus shifted slightly, towards the Pokemon that she had been with for so long they were almost like sisters. “Ready, Hunter?” Of course, she didn’t need to ask a question she already knew the answer to. Rep and Hunter, like their trainers, had become rivals within minutes of meeting each other. Hunter was just as anxious to start this fight as Rep was, and it showed; the Blaziken’s wrists and ankles spit searing hot flames, an indication of how strong her fighting spirit was.
And then the battle started, Ricki starting it off by having Rep prepare himself, the Lucario glowed with a red aura, followed by an Extremespeed approach Hunter with a deadly attack no doubt prepared. Rep was so fast that Ramona didn’t have time to shout a command to Hunter.
Luckily, she didn’t need to.
The Blaziken reacted quickly, using its powerful legs to launch itself high into the air in order to avoid the Lucario’s attack. A good few hundred yards into the air, Hunter’s sharp eyes assessed the situation, taking a good look at the battlefield.
“Nice, Hunter!” Ramona cheered, pumping her fist into the air. “Now, come on down like a meteor!” The avian Pokemon responded in haste, immediately coating its right leg in flames as it stopped rising, almost seeming to hang in the air for a moment, before descending, quicker and quicker.

THE BATTLE BEGINS; RAMONA ALBARN
Ricki slowly smirked at Ramona’s response to being told not to hold back. Neither of them could afford to hold back against the other. They were ‘frivals’ as Ricki had affectionately declared moments before. Even if someone who didn’t know the duo were to approach the scene, they could tell there was a sort of bond between the two. Whether they focused on their rivalry or friendship, it was obvious Ramona and Ricki’s “frivalry” was only going to grow stronger after this point. Disregarding the sappy thoughts, Ricki focused entirely on the battle ahead of her now. Rep charged in with a powerful combo, but it appeared the Blaziken managed to see it coming.
Once Rep took off, Hunter was leaping out of the way and had just narrowly missed the powerful Extreme Speed and Focus Blast combo, but this was only the start. As he missed, Rep skid to a stop and rotated his body around to make sure he was facing the Blaziken now up in the sky. Hearing Ramona’s order, as the Blaziken seemed to pause in the air, Ricki immediately announced the order for a counter attack.
“Fus roh dah!” she shouted with a wicked grin. It didn’t take Rep a second to catch the meaning behind Ricki’s odd battle cry. Immediately he knelt down and seemed to briefly charge up before his mouth flew open. An excruciatingly loud roar escaped the Lucario’s mouth as he released an impressive wave of energy. The Dragon Pulse was soaring at the incoming Blaziken, aimed to clash with Hunter and sending her flying back with a powerful force. Ricki only grimaced in response to the sound of her Lucario’s own battle cry. Having gone through the process of raising a young Whismur, loud noises, headaches, and the like didn’t affect her as much anymore.

The strange order from the green-haired trainer caught both Ramona and Hunter off guard. ‘Foos Row What?’ And then they found out exactly what Ricki meant, as the Lucario let loose a cry so painfully loud that both Pokemon and Trainer grimaced, followed by a wave of energy. Crimson eyes widened as the fast-moving beam met the meteoric foot. Both attacks battled briefly, before the Blaziken’s kinetic energy ran out, and the airborne Pokemon was knocked back.
“HUNTER!” the trainer shouted, worried for her Pokemon’s well-being. The Blaziken, however, quickly regained equilibrium, and managed to right herself as she descended. “Alright, let’s show ‘em the Quake!” The teen cheered, pumping her fist enthusiastically. The Blaze Pokemon reacted immediately, somersaulting rapidly as it fell to the earth, extending both of its legs at the last possible moment to finish the rotation, talons meeting the ground at unbelievably high speed. The ground shook, and even Ramona, who had prepared herself for the attack, fought to keep her balance and the earth rumbled beneath them.
For a Steel-type like Lucario, a ground-type move like Earthquake would deal twice the damage; however, Hunter and Ramona both knew that such an attack wasn’t nearly enough to bring Rep down.

THE BATTLE BEGINS; RAMONA ALBARN
Grinning at her reference catching the opposing trainer and Pokémon off guard, Ricki inwardly patted herself on the back, but withheld her gloating. There wasn’t a moment that could be spared her focus when fighting Ramona, after all. As the Blaziken was thrown back through the air, Ricki’s eyes shot to the Lucario to double check his condition. Seeing the super effective flames hadn’t hit him, Ricki’s gaze immediately turned back to the Blaziken just in time to see the damage Pokémon had finally got its flailing body back under control. Cursing at the sight, Ricki’s eyes widened at the order, recognizing just what kind of attack the Blaziken intended to use next.
“Rep, ExtremeSpeed!” Ricki immediately called out, not bothering with a combo or witty words. The Lucario immediately took off in a blur once more at the descending Blaziken. With the Blaziken summersaulting downwards, the moment she began to uncurl, Rep slammed right into her to interrupt the attack. Following the impact, Rep took the liberty of trying to repeat his earlier combo, thrusting a Focus Blast at the Blaziken’s body with the intent of landing the super effective move boosted by Work Up. Granted being so close to the heated Pokémon had its cons, the moment that he finished attempting the combo, Rep threw himself back to put space between him and Hunter.
Rep used ExtremeSpeed to collide with Blaziken before it could land, interrupting the Earthquake. He follows up with a Focus Blast, before moving back to place distance between him and Hunter.

Ramona’s eyes squinted, hardening as Ricki deduced exactly what she was planning, commanding Rep to use his Extremespeed. It was fantastic, really, how the Lucario had taken advantage of Hunter’s single instant of vulnerability , slamming into the Blaziken before its leg could make contact with the ground. Hunter, however, was no slouch herself, and ensconced both of her legs in flames, managing a scissor-kick just as Rep’s follow-up Focus Blast hit her, knocking the fire-type back.
The Blaziken bounced, rolling along the ground, before pushing herself back to her feet as the Lucario put distance between them. Alright, time for a bit of strategy; it was clear that Hunter had taken the full brunt of the Fighting attack, and was visibly panting. As a Blaziken, Hunter was more suited to close-quarters combat, while most of Rep’s attacks so far had been ranged. That Extremespeed/Focus Blast combo would be problematic for her. The Dragon Pulse could be dealt with, but how would she deal with Rep’s speed? Extremespeed outpaced Quick Attack, but Focus Blast would be problematic if it hit Hunter again.
Unbidden and involuntary, a grin made its way across Ramona’s face. This was what she loved! “Stomp the yard!” she shouted. Hunter nodded, stomping the ground repeatedly, causing the ground to shake just like it would if her previous attack had hit the ground.

THE BATTLE BEGINS; RAMONA ALBARN
Ricki had braced for the impact of the Earthquake, but when it didn’t come, she relaxed and watched the Blaziken be sent rolling her way. She quickly moved away from the Pokémon slowly getting closer to her, having no desire to get caught in the cross fire. Having been one to train and fight her own Pokémon, Ricki knew getting hit with Pokémon’s attacks was not a pleasant feeling at all. As she relocated herself, the Blaziken got the chance to gather herself while Rep waited for orders. Making the mistake of not taking advantage of the Blaziken’s fallen state, by the time Ricki was about to give her next order, Ramona was already declaring the next attack.
Immediately knowing what stomp the yard meant, Ricki dropped down to her knees to counter the violent shaking that came with the Earthquake attack. Rep had followed suit, managing to keep his balance but taking the full blunt force of the attack in the process. The super effective Earthquake rattled him, nearly throwing the Pokémon off his feet, but with his lowered center of gravity and shifting his paws to rest on the ground, Rep managed to stabilize himself. As the shaking began to come to a stop, both trainer and Pokémon were in a similar position, but Rep was the first to start getting back up. Granted there was a slight stumble, he managed to stand up tall as a proud Lucario.
“Return to sender!” Ricki ordered from her knelt position, looking up with a wild smirk. Before she even finished speaking, the Lucario had already taken off to do just as he was told. Using Extremespeed to close the distance before Hunter could evacuate, the damaged Lucario aimed to land a powerful Counter attack. Taking all of the power of the Blaziken’s previous Earthquake, and then doubling it, the power behind the Counter would be immense.
Rep was damaged by the Super Effective Earthquake. He charges in with an ExtremeSpeed and attempts to use Counter with 2x the Power of Hunter's Earthquake attack.

Ramona choked on an obscenity as the Lucario, having recovered from the Earthquake attack faster than she had anticipated, sprinted towards Hunter with the command ‘return to sender’. It had used Extremespeed to cover the distance between them within seconds. She barely even had time to issue a command. Luckily, Hunter knew exactly what she was doing. She wasn’t called Hunter for no reason, after all.
Without any hesitation, the Blaziken sped towards Rep at a slightly slower speed, her body ensconcing itself in intense blue flames. The two Pokemon charged at each other, colliding with explosive force. Blaze battled Aura, neither one giving way to the other. Ramona cheered as loudly as she could as the two battled for dominance.
That is, until the exhaustion finally caught up to Hunter and her footing faltered. The Blaziken slipped, rocketing backwards from the combined force of Rep’s Extremespeed and Counter, skimming the ground like a skipping stone until finally coming to a halt, laying inert, face down on the ground.
Despite all of this, Ramona felt a smile threatening to split her face. “Great job, Ricki, Rep!” she shouted, running over to her downed companion. “Nice battle! Let’s do it again soon!” Win or lose, she loved to battle, especially against people like Ricki.
