[11pm, clear skies]
This was it.
After a series of several forays into the ruins, with both great success in finding items of value and great mystery, Vincent was out of time. After several calls, hours of research spent with no results, and other matters that ultimately demanded his attention, Vincent knew he only had time for one last foray into the ruins in search of the mysterious stones and possible other artifacts that could help him in his journey to try and uncover their secrets. It was a cold, empty night this time, Vincent sacrificing some of his sleep that he could get on his flight home in order to get this last foray into the unknown, a full moon being the eerie light that lit his way on this particularly interesting night.
He had brought the scanner along once again, fine tuning it to attempt to be able to pick up the stones and anything else that would be unique that would help him find some answer, ANY answer, to this mystery. Quickly setting up the necessary equipment in the usual spot, Vincent watched and waited in any way he could, stemming any boredom he had while the scanner worked quickly jotting down notes in an attempt to come up with some kind of hypothesis...
Maybe he could find something tonight that would provide the answer.

The first set of scans...did not go well.
For the first fifteen minutes, there was literally nothing of interest. Well, except for the following items that Vincent dismissed with each scan: an apple core, a banana peel, several tin cans, a boot, a rubber ducky, another ancient looking spitoon and what appeared to be a grouping of silverware. While Vincent was impressed with the scanner's ability to locate and identify items, he was considerably less impressed with what it was finding. What was worse was the presence of these objects indicated one of two possible outcomes.
The first was that there had been a geometric shift of the dirt below the surface due to the heavy rainfall. Unlikely, and since he was no geologist there was no way to tell if this was actually possible or not. The second was that other individuals had come and littered here recently during the rainfall. This meant that others may or may not have been digging in the same spot, but it did decrease the chances of Vincent finding items of scientific value here in the future if other people began to propigate here. For at some point or another, someone was going to get the idea to dig. Maybe with a scanner like Vincent was.
Resetting the machine once again, Vincent set up another scan, hoping for something more valuable...

Another stone.
What luck! as Vincent literally was about to give up hope, his scanner picked up a unique stone that was not like any of the others he had yet found. Perhaps every stone was indeed unique, though Vincent had no idea why this was the case. Each stone had a wavelength of some kind that it emitted that, while consistent, was very very complex. Almost akin to some kind of super-ancient energy emitter/radio. According to old information that the professor had dug up, radio waves could have had an effect on pokemon if powerful enough and used in the right way: An example being Team Rocket's use of a powerful radio emitter in an attempt to forcibly evolve Magikarp into Gyarados at the lake of rage back in the Johto reigon. That meant that there was some kind of past precident for such a thing, but...
From his initial tests, these items had no effect on pokemon on their own, and the wavelengths were much more complex than those. Moreover, those were simple radio waves and not partial energy signatures like these.
Vincent excitedly dug up the last stone and left the digging sites, content that for now he had learned all that he could.
