elcome Adventurer to EPOCH! A Pokemon Sandbox Rp set in the original region of Nue. Everything you need to know will be in the Guidebook and PokeDex 101!
EPOCH uses the Manga and is built on the Original ideas suggested by our members.
We are more than just a Pokemon RP, we're a friendly community with a goal on being a memorable experience for those that look in.
Golden Rule: Treat others as you wish to be treated. If you find yourself content with being an asshole EPOCH and its members will not tolerate you.
RULES
Understand We're All Human. Respect the staffers as well as your fellow members and guests. We all have flaws, tempers and quirks. Be patient with one another, but if issues involving other members come up please don’t just grin and bear it. Contact a staff member, informing them of what's going on so they can address and resolve the situation. The staff won't know what's bothering you unless you tell them.
EPOCH is PG-13. Proboards’ Terms of Service:
Sex; When you get under the clothes, fade to black.
Violence; Do not go into extreme nauseating detail.
Cursing; This is so fucking allowed, but don't go overboard.
Suggestive Content; In avatars, signatures and templates can attract the wrong kind of attention. So be careful.
I have been working on simplifying and rewriting large parts of Epoch's information to make it much simpler and much more concise and fair. The rule I'm following is K.I.S.S. - Keep It Simple Stupid, and I am finally at a part where I think I need some help!
So this is where you guys come into play: What do you see on Epoch that needs to be addressed, simplified, fixed, or moved? Nothing is off limits.
Know that a lot of stuff has already been messed with in Lyro and I's private work area and so even if you suggest X or Y, we may have already messed with it. However, member input is always welcome and encouraged on Epoch, since you guys are the ones that roleplay here. It doesn't matter if you just joined today or have been with us since the beginning, we just want to here what you have to say and think!
Let us work together to make Epoch 5.0 and make it a good one, yeah? So post anything you see or think needs fixing up or maybe something we should add.

Not really much, but of the top of my head, I think it'd be beneficial if the Battle FAQ, at least the part of how certain moves and abilities work on Epoch, was linked or mentioned in the Battle section of the 101.

A suggestion: Maybe a section for "Do's" and "Don'ts" of player-created plots and the limits of them? Maybe link it up with the legendary plotting stuff for a full set.
Otherwise, nothing comes to mind that needs to be addressed. The guides look good!

This is being done. All of the Battle Stuff is getting put into one section, more or less.

Legendary plotting information is also getting its own full thread and being done properly; I'm not sure if regularly plotting actually needs that, but we'll see if we can throw that in somewhere.
Maybe a more detailed guide about the Mod Summons? How to do them, what needs a Summons, etiquette and all that. It seems like a few of the newer members I've seen has been confused by them or done some type faux pas without knowing it. The only thing I can really remember seeing about them when I joined (which, I haven't looked recently or anything) was the small bit about how to do it to link your profile for reviewing. Maybe that would help?

I'd like to see like a how to/guide of some sort about evolving Pokemon and catching Pokemon. Some sort of example, or explanation, of what would be good enough to evolve/catch Pokemon. And focus more on quality more than quantity. I know that mods know what sort of stuff they should be looking for, but I think members should sort of know what type of post they should make as well. I mean you don't have to pump out a 1000 word post to get one evolution done, because quality > quantity.
Another thing I can think of is making gym leaders have different leveled teams. And by leveled dreams, I mean different stages. New members want to challenge gym leaders, but for someone who just joined and they go look at one of the older gym leaders... that can be discouraging. I think it would be good to do the following.
Keep three sets of teams.
Team 1: 1 Fully evolved Pokemon, the rest are stage 1.
Team 2: 2 Fully evolved Pokemon, the rest are stage 2 or lower. 1 Single stage Pokemon.
Team 3: Your fully trained and evolved team.
That way, newbies and veterans alike can challenge the leaders. Just a suggestion, the teams can be different but that's the general idea.
I honestly feel like Carnivine, Heatmor and maybe Bouffalant aren't really fit to be rare Pokemon anymore. But that's jjust me. Bouffalant is just a Tauros with an afro.

I know that I would really like to see an EXAMPLE of how HA breeding words. The blurb in the 101 is all well and good, but even with the explanation, I feel like some people (including myself) need more of a visual on how this would work.
That's all I have for this right now, but it's something kinda simple and easy to pull off.

For the Coordinator side of things, I'd want to see this in a bit more detail, since it hasn't been fully touched on:
- how many 'contest wins' does a Coordinator need to achieve in order to get the star symbol next to their name (case in point: ★Ronnie Rillito) - how many wins (after achieving the star next to one's name) are needed in order to get the crown next to a Coordinator's display name (so-called full-blown 'celebrity' status) - are there still 'entry requirements' for each contest (like say, 2 Lux Balls for a Normal-rank Contest, then a certain number of ribbons achieved for Super / Hyper / Master rank contests)? Or has everything been simplified to the point that winning xx number of contests would net you the corresponding indicators of fame next to your display name (the star, then the crown if I remember the previous incarnations of the Coordinator's Guide correctly)
Bit of an edit:
In my case, I guess it would be best to consult with Lyro about this part. Trou remembers some bit of this as well, since he's been around here much longer.

Yeah, this was going to be added as one of the first things people would see.

That's all I can think about for now.
The Catching & Evolving parts of the 101 can get this kind of elaboration, sure.
With this team suggestion, are you wanting them to keep several distinctly different teams, or are you wanting to be able to use a form of adjustment so that Amber could just "scale" her current team to match the opponent? Her Salamence vs a strong challenger vs it being a Shelgon for a weaker one?
The Safari Zone is getting remixed to reflect the change in many of the site's rares.

I have a previously asked/answered support ticket that does this pretty well; I can elaborate on it and turn it into part of the new breeding guide.

The Coordinator name change stuff is likely to not be re-added. The goal of Epoch 5.0 is simplicity to all involved, after all. Lyro and I can discuss coordinator rewards and incentives in full later, but since it was removed during 2.0-3.0 Epoch for 4.0 it likely won't be returning.
There are no entry requirements for a majority of contests unless the contest creator wants there to be; the resting default is having Luxury Balls and a Prop Chest. There may be a few site events where you'll need badges or need contest ribbons to join or get rewards, but ultimately any joining requirements are up to the contest creator.
DERP derp im on mobile so pls excuse auto correct for any spelling issues
Anyway, a few things I think should be explained or idk changed??
Rangers - I think we talked about this at some point but honestly Rangers have little to no incentive for anyone to join. Most people who join think Interpol does the jobs of rangers and don't really wanna do it then, which is not an issue, but if the ranger class isn't being used maybe it should be poof'd away?
Gym Challenges/Contest - First part, just a question towards Amber Kazuki's comment, if gyms are required/recommend to have THREE separate teams, who is going to pay for it? If you're a gym leader who doesn't get a helpful boost from one of the richer members on site, how can you afford to have three different teams? I honestly think if you're gonna challenge a gym you shouldn't be bringing weak pokemon.
Second, I really really really think Gym battles should be a trainer class only thing. The reason being is that trainers and coordinators don't get the same "perks" as breeders, team members, or league members. I think by making gym battles a trainer only "perk" that will idk make the actual like choosing of a class more worth while, you know? Because at the moment you could be a breeder, who can breed pokemon, enter contest, AND challenge gyms. Same thing goes for coordinators and contest, I think they should be a coordinator only "perk".
Ok that's it for now I might remember something later~~~

@priest
The Catching & Evolving parts of the 101 can get this kind of elaboration, sure.

I was thinking more so along the lines of being able to scale to her opponent's level. Although I wasn't sure if that was something you'd be okay with or not.
Secondly, @caspar, I know that when I join a site with a Trainer and I want to challenge the gym, I'd want to go for a weaker gym first since I first started out. But we really can't do that here. It would take at least a couple of weeks, if not a month, to get a team up and ready to go against a leader. Being able to scale your Pokemon down or keeping a reserve team would be good. And some people may want to challenge a gym just to see where they are skill wise.
You also wouldn't need the team right away, nor would it be required, but it would be something to think about to encourage new members to challenge gyms. It's intimidating to look at a gym leader's PC and then compare them to yours.
Thirdly, I don't think restricting classes would be a good thing. For one, what if you had a character idea that is interested in both gyms and contests? You have to pick one or the other, and then go make another character if you really wanted to challenge the gym.
If you want 'perks' of some sort, then I have some ideas to help with that. To give classes an end game so to speak. Ideas are vague right now, but I'll be fleshing them out during the summer and then putting the pieces together.

I dont know if this is the place to say it, but with Amber and Caspar mentioning "Perks", a general idea for the guide or just 5.0 in general might be a reward for earning badges. Currently, the perks of being a breeder are breeding, co-ordinators can become celebs, rangers have a job with the league. etc etc. Anyway, my suggestion would be to implement some form of reward system for collecting gym badges. Be it plot status (say, 6 badges has you on a league top trainers list) or an actual reward, like an increasing bonus with every badge earned. Personally, I don't need such a reward, seeing as it's hella fun to be challenging gyms, but for new members, some incentive may help. Currently the only thing I've seen like this is the upcoming tournament that requires a single badge to enter, but if the "perk" is a once a year thing, and only requires a single badge, it feels a bit...situational?
Sorry, I tend to ramble and odds are my point got lost in their somewhere. Hopefully this helps somehow.
Part of Epoch's appeal is that it is a sandbox, and that you may do as you please within the confines of basic RP courtesy. I will not support anything that excessively limits this. I will not enforce or seek to enforce limitations such as trainers being unable to perform in contests, or gym leaders being unable to challenge gyms, or Team Rocket kids entering tournaments. Roleplayers are free to create tournaments and contests and other events with their own limitations, but I will not support doing so.

If it isn't too much trouble, I'd like to see NPC rules explained a bit more than the small thread it currently has. For example, can we make them outside of missions? Can they be self-spawned for a battle thread? Can they have evolved pokemon in their limit-of-4 team? Stuff like that and maybe more, please and thanks.
