I will hide myself below I'll be what you wanted
Relax. It's nothing. Just another challenge, another battle. It's nothing.
Again and again, the words crossed his mind like a mantra, the man hoping that they'd serve as some sort of relief to the anxiety that threatened to swallow him whole. The one thing that weighed on his mind more heavily than the fact that he was going to be battling a fellow gym leader, was the fact that this particular set up was in a stadium, packed to the brim with people. If that wasn't bad enough, the following matches would be airing on television for the masses unable to attend to see.
Deep breaths, in and out, his mind grasping at techniques to quell the monster causing chaos within. Pulling his hat from his head, he ran a hand through his hair, gripping at it with a tug before letting his hand fall, the cap finding it's way back moments later. Fingers found the pokeballs secured at his side, running over the smooth exterior, eyes falling to the warm shade of red that adorned the top. "Come on, you're getting yourself psyched out - It'll be fine." It would, right?
With a shake of his head and one more deep breath, Taka pushed himself from his seat, exiting the room he had paced in for what seemed like hours earlier that day. Professionals didn't act like this - so he had convinced himself, which had, perhaps, only served to let the monster grow. His shoes hitting the floor below seemed to echo within the halls as he made his way toward the arena - the sound mirrored that of his heartbeat which filled his ears.
It's nothing.
He stopped just before the light that peeked in the hall from the entryway leading outside, taking another deep breath. His feet felt glued to their place, his heart threatening to beat itself straight from his chest. The sound from the crowd was deafening, making it hard to think... and perhaps, that's exactly what Takahiro needed. If he couldn't psych himself further, the anxiety would dwindle away. One last breath, his mind numb to his own thoughts, he pushed himself forward.
Squinting his eyes as he walked into the light, the sound only grew louder - and with the sound, he found the corners of his lips tugging upward. "Yeah, this won't be bad, this won't be bad... at all." I hope. But it would always remain, blocked out, silenced or not - it's claws would retain their icy grip on his being.
With one long look around the arena, his eyes fell to the opposite side of the field, falling to his opponent with a knowing nod. Focus, that's all it takes. As things were, there was no point in wasting time with formalities, it would only let his anxiety rear it's ugly head yet again, no - he needed something more than a little - or a lot - of noise to focus on. Gripping the bill of his baseball cap, his smile turning into a slight smirk, his other hand took one of the pokeballs at his side into his palm.
Once, twice, thrice his thumb ran over the smooth surface of the object with yet another deep breath, the ball flew, releasing the pokemon within in a bright flash. Four paws hit the ground, the dark type stretching with a confident bark . At least Freyr is ready for this. "Shall we begin?" His voice was deep, wavering slightly to hide his emotions within - yet through the icy anxiety, he felt a heat starting to bubble up - excitement.
It was nothing.

THESE ARE THE DAYS
WHEN I HATE THE WORLD
HATE THE RICH, HATE THE HAPPY, HATE THE COMPLACENT. TV WATCHERS, BEER DRINKERS, THE SATISFIED ONES. BECAUSE I KNOW I CAN BE ALL THOSE LITTLE HATEFUL THINGS AND THEN I HATE MYSELF FOR REALIZING THAT. BE SAFE, BE SAFE.
When Miguel had passed the exam in order to become a Gym Leader, he had been expecting quite a few things. He even wrote down a list of them which he kept locked in a drawer at home in Iceburgh. However, he was pretty sure that he never wrote down play gladiator with fellow League members in an arena for publicity.
In retrospect though, he probably should have. This seemed like entirely the kind of thing the League would do to promote things. After all, if there was anything his parents taught him it is that people’s happiness and obedience were sustained by two things - bread and entertainment. He supposed that they would fulfill the entertainment portion that the League needed while also promoting themselves and whatever else it was they needed to promote in the process. He could appreciate a win-win situation for someone when he could see it even if he and his fellow Gym Leaders were basically being forced to fight for their entertainment.
Besides, unlike most people would he would actually enjoy this little gladiator show in their coliseum. He wasn’t feeling anything more than the slight jitters he got from before any of his performances, and all it did was make him feel pumped and excited for what was to come. It was almost as if he was back in the circus again, standing behind the folds while waiting for his name to be called out by the ringmaster, except this time he wasn’t going to do anything life-threatening like he used to do.
Ping!
Miguel looked up and smiled as he saw what was flashed across the screen. ”Showtime.”
He pushed himself off of the seat and brushed off the imaginary dirt on his suit. He picked up his hat from the other seat and donned it, making sure to tilt it just enough to hide the upper portion of his face while still allowing him to see. He plastered his show smile onto his face and finally walked out of the room with a little bit of a strut in his step.
What he had felt in the waiting room was nothing compared to the sudden rush he felt when he stepped out of the arena. His show smile turned genuine when he could feel his body almost buzz with the energy around him in the coliseum, and it wasn’t his supernatural senses talking nor was it a caffeine buzz.
In fact, he was almost tempted to throw his arms out and do a back flip for no good reason, but he did have an image to uphold… and admittedly it was difficult to do in a stiff suit like this one. He’d leave the acrobatics to his chosen pokemon for today. No need for him to damage another one of his precious suits. He’d had enough of that in those blasted ruins thank you very much.
Miguel pushed those thoughts away and nodded towards his opponent – a young man wearing a baseball cap. As he observed him, he started to take slow deep breaths, slowly pushing the crowd out of his mind until their roars became nothing but a dull, buzzing hum in the back of his mind. His eyes were almost like a Luxray’s as they stared at the boy with an eerie, sharp intensity. The intensity of their burning stare practically doubled when the boy released his pokemon – a small black pup that he knew all too well.
Houndour. Interesting….
He stared down at the pup for a few moments before returning his gaze to the pup’s trainer. ”Of course, monsieur. In a moment.” He swept his gloved hand forward and tipped his hat with his other hand. ”Wonderful choice, by the way.”
With a flick of his wrist, a red and white blur suddenly appeared high up in the air, as if by magic. The blur then enlarged and spat out a bright light that released a small purple creature with eyes made of blue gems and a body adorned with a few large gems on the front and back. Curiously, it had a choker with a strange-looking yellowish marble with a red and purple cat’s eye set in the center.
Miguel glanced down to watch as Gollum gave his opponent a large, creepy looking smile before addressing his opponent again. ”I’m feeling quite generous today, so you may have the first move, monsieur.”

I will hide myself below I'll be what you wanted
Those eyes - that gaze.
There was something about it that sent a shiver down his back, yet he couldn't tear his own eyes away from it, holding it as he gave a knowing nod to his opponent. He knew, somewhere within the confines of his mind, that he held little to no presence, especially when set in front of the man he was. It was rarely a thing he let himself think about - he was anxious about enough, there was no need to add on to the list. Sure, he was newer to this sort of thing, he still had to build up a reputation - that's part of why he was here, was it not?
But... why did the same gaze that made him feel nervous also fuel the fire that burned within him? Perhaps that was a question best left unanswered.
Raising his hand to the bill of his cap, tipping it in a respectful manner at the compliment, a kind smile formed on his lips, "Thank you," He did his best to hide his surprise in his tone. Had he expected anything more than normal formalities and battle commands? Honestly, no. He knew, however - that this battle would be his hardest yet, and even though he continued to doubt his abilities here, there was an excitement within him that began to bubble over, the man slipping his hands into his pockets as he rolled back to bounce on his heels.
It wasn't until Miguel released his first choice that Taka paused, sizing up the competition with his lip caught between his teeth. Sableye were notorious for having next to no weaknesses, posing themselves as more than worthy opponents, especially when under the command under the right people - and he had no doubt that Miguel was one of those.
Especially with the glint of a rather decorative stone that hung around the pokemon's neck - one that Taka certainly recognized. well... shit. It wasn't something he'd be able to keep up with, should it happen.
Anxiety? All too present - especially now.
Fiery passion? Far outweighed the anxiety, however.
Even if he lost, he'd give it his best - it was all he could do, right? Better to go down looking fantastic in flames rather than falling and flailing. After all, this was all for fun. All right, no need to keep the crowd waiting any longer. "Very well, good luck, I look forward to seeing what you can do."
His eyes fell to Freyr, the pokemon shifting his paws to take a battle stance, rolling his shoulders as his teeth bared. As things were, even the Houndour knew this would be difficult, but he was ready, ears perked for commands from his trainer. "Let's try some of the new things we've been practicing, hm? Start off with a smog!" Running his tongue over his maw, Freyr howled, parting his jaw as far as he could to emit a dark black, caustic smoke - Smog. It wasn't damage the two were going for with this move. Cover? Yeah, more or less. Unconventional, quite - if it managed to poison the other, that was merely a bonus, however not expected.
Snorting, the disgusting scent of his own smog filling his nose, the Houndour pulled his paws under him to rush forward. "Alright, good! Now, Feint Attack!" Continuing his path toward the ghost-type, Freyr pushed himself off the ground, leaping toward his grinning opponent with one paw stretched forward, eyes narrowing as he braced himself for impact with Feint Attack - whatever it may be with.
100% Started off with a Smog for attempted cover. Feint Attack used thereafter offensively.

Miguel nearly raised an eyebrow when he saw the young man trying to hide his surprise at his words. Was he not expecting politeness from an opponent? Silly young man. This was a friendly match and he had nothing against him, so why should he be not polite? There was no reason to breed hostility or indifference if they weren’t instructed to do it for the show. This was a demonstration anyway, not a scripted match like what happens in some of those gimmicky wrestling shows on TV.
Miguel smiled as the young man responded. ”Thank you. You as well, monsieur~”
At least the young man was wise enough to take him up on his generous offer to take the first move. While the ones with the first move often had a distinct advantage and he’d just handed it to his opponent on a silver platter, it gave him a little time to think and gauge his opponent’s behavior. This was especially important since he wasn’t using his power at the moment, rendering him unable to take in the situation and reducing the efficiency of his communication with his pokemon.
In truth, the thought was quite thrilling. He’d been hungering for a challenge for a while since there had been very few challengers who had even dared to visit his gym since it had opened. Maybe he’d find the rush he was looking for in this young man.
Gold eyes flicked to the black pup as the young man ordered to release a black, ominous-looking cloud of smoke. He didn’t need to say anything to have Gollum dodge the cloud by jumping to the side. It was just common sense to avoid something called smog of all things, especially since both he and his pokemon knew how toxic smog could be during their training sessions in Mt. Halo.
However, not even dodging could stop the smog from temporarily obscuring the view of the other side. Once the Sableye had landed from the jump, he became confused as to where the Houndour had gone. This left him flatfooted when he heard the other trainer order the hidden Houndour to attack.
Miguel’s smile grew a little bigger despite the situation he and his pokemon were in. He knew that move couldn’t be dodged even if his pokemon were aware where it was coming from, but he had another card to play. ”Éclater!”
If Gollum could blink his gemstone eyes, he would have the moment he heard his trainer’s counter-order. But since he couldn’t, he simply braced himself for the hit he was about to take. Not a moment later, he felt the heavy impact of something hard hitting his gut and grinned through the pain. In an instant, his body glowed a flashed a vivid white and released a pulse of energy forwards swiftly, intending to hit the mutt with more than what it had given to it.
As soon as Miguel saw the white glow bursting out from his pokemon, the next order was already on his lips. ”Rayon Gemme.”
Gollum acknowledged the order by having his center jewel glow ominously after he had released the energy from earlier. He took aim at wherever the pup had gone by this point and fired a beautiful yet powerful sparkling beam of energy that quickly sped towards the pup, hoping that it would hit.
OOC Battle summary: Sableye dodges Smog and is hit with Feint Attack. He retaliates by instantaneously returning 1.5x damage he had received through Metal Burst and follows it up with a Power Gem from his center jewel.

I will hide myself below I'll be what you wanted
Truth be told, he hadn't expected much to come of himself from these battles - knowing he'd be facing other leaders with much more experience than he had. That didn't mean that he wouldn't give it what he had - no, if he threw everything away, walking into the arena expecting to lose, that'd be an insult... not only to his opponent, but himself.
And Freyr had the same mindset. He knew he found himself at a disadvantage here, especially as his paws landed on the other's stomach and his eyes on that devilish smile. Laying his ears back, a snarl ripping from his throat, he braced himself moments before he was thrown back by a brightly lit wave of energy, hitting the ground heavily. One second, he found himself sliding across the ground, growling in pain, the next his paws were gathered beneath him, teeth bared. Only for a moment did his eyes leave his opponent, not daring to let him out of his sight long enough to lose track.
Behind him, narrowing his eyes as he focused on the events before him, Taka found his mind racing, reviewing training session after training session for ideas. His lip found itself caught between his teeth, the pressure increasing as he thought. Idea one, no... two... plausible but not doable in this situation... idea three - that's it!
"Freyr, move!" Ears twitched, taking in his trainer's command, pushing himself to the side as quickly as he could, barely dodging the brilliant beam, the pup scrambled back toward the smog that remained in the field, slowly spreading like a disease. Scrunching his nose, the dark type snorted as the foul scent once again filling his nostrils. "Alright, Freyr..." Chancing a glance toward his trainer, the way his tone had changed in what seemed to be only seconds, he felt suddenly... excited, anticipating Takahiro's next words, Time to heat things up!"
Precisely what he was thinking.
Tilting his head, a smirk forming on his at the corner of his lips with a flash his fangs, the Houndour parted his maw to take in a deep breath - only to exhale a Flamethrower the next. The thing about gases? They're extremely flammable. With a loud, ignition sound, the gases indeed caught fire... and exploded - Engulfing a portion of the field in flames and a smoke that quickly spread. Freyr found himself light on his feet at the feeling of the heat as he rushed again - this time not at his opponent, but around him.
"Now, once more!" Not wasting a moment, the stream of flames emitted from his maw once more as the dark type ran, eyes sparking with pride.
66% Hit by Metal Burst before dodging power gem, lit remaining smog on fire with a Flamethrower and followed up with another Flamethrower.

Gollum grinned savagely as the pain he was given was returned almost two-fold. However, he didn’t get a chance to gloat because the wretched pup managed to dodge the finishing blow. No matter. This just meant that he and his father had more chances to bring on the pain. Why, if he were lucky then maybe his father would deem the pup enough of a threat to use the precious and let him annihilate the opposition. In fact, he wanted to use the precious now and feel the rapturous power it brought to him as he and his father became one in purpose and power.
Gollum didn’t have much more time to dwell on that because he saw the stream of flames headed towards the… remaining clouds of poisonous gas? The Sableye mentally cursed and jumped into the nearest shadow –which was that of one of the walls because of the position of the sun- and sunk into it, avoiding the explosions that came with the gas igniting the fumes.
Instead of being disconcerted by the explosive display or cursing at it like Gollum had been, Miguel’s eyes lit up in undisguised glee at the explosion. This was going to be a very enjoyable fight if the boy kept causing explosions like this one. It made him feel like he needed to up the ante and call out one of the other two pokemon he had chosen for this battle just to create more grand explosions, but it was far too early in the fight to do such things. Gollum could still handle himself and he wasn’t about to take the Sableye’s fun away even though he couldn’t understand a word that comes out from his mouth.
However, upon seeing the arena being obscured by smoke and debris from the explosion once again nearly made Miguel frown. Without his powers, it was almost impossible for him to see where Gollum was going to emerge. Actually, it was still almost impossible even with his powers since Gollum was immune to them, being what he was. It took the glint of a gem from Gollum’s back as a second stream of fire jetted towards him to make him see where he was, and by then it was too late for him to order the ghost to dodge.
Damn. Plan B it was – lather, rinse, repeat. ”Gollum, six comme un joueur de record!” Miguel bit out.
Gollum was only fast enough to turn around before the Flamethrower struck him right on his center jewel, sending him slamming straight into the wall of the arena. Curiously enough, the flames weren’t spilling to the sides but instead was sinking into the gem despite it pushing the Sableye back with a sizable amount of force. Despite the pain, it afforded him a direct view of the Houndour as the stream of flames poured from its mouth. That was enough for him.
As soon as the torrent of flames ended, his entire body flashed a bright white and then released a powerful and fast pulse of energy headed straight towards his opponent. Once that was done, Gollum didn’t bother to look if it hit or not as he finally slid down to his feet, albeit shakily because damn did that one hurt so deliciously! He then looked up and gave the Houndour a creepy grin as he fired a massive beam of sparkling energy from his eyes aimed right at wherever the dog may have gone after his previous assault. While he couldn’t see from his eyes as he did so, he was mentally crossing his fingers and hoping that the speeding beam would hit….
OOC Battle summary: Burn roll 99/100 - failed
Sableye dodges the Flamethower-fueled explosion by sinking into shadows with Shadow Sneak. Upon resurfacing, he is then hit with Flamethrower and then retaliates by instantaneously returning 1.5x damage he had received through Metal Burst and follows it up with a Power Gem from his eye jewels.

I will hide myself below I'll be what you wanted
There was more to pride than showing off. There was more to pride than self-esteem and self-respect. It came with a certain amount of nobility... with acknowledgement. You didn't lose pride when you lost... depending on how you handled that loss, that is. Freyer knew well he wouldn't walk away from this one with a win from the moment he saw that twisted grin on his opponents face - but that wasn't necessary, not this time - as much as he'd love to wipe that grin from its place. No... it was the effort, the display of talent - the show he put on. The harder he worked, the better he looked, the better he made his trainer look.
Pressing his paws into the ground, he slid to a stop with a cry as another bright flash enveloped him, feeling the energy sapped from his being. Laying his ears back, panting harshly, he glared at his opponent defiantly as the light faded, his eyes having a hard time adjusting this time. As things were now, even if tried to dodge, it wouldn't be fast enough... Bracing himself, the power gem hit him head on - finishing the job that, inevitably, he started himself with the flames from his maw.
Smiling, Taka raised the pokeball in hand, recalling the canine - uttering small words of praise to the spent pokemon within. With a well practiced ease, he moved his hand back to his belt, switching the pokeball for another, nodding toward his opponent in a silent congratulations on the first win.
But the battle was far from over.
Casting his gaze to the sky, the fire-type leader tossed the next ball into the air, releasing the next contender onto the field with a brilliant flash - a young bird who's wings were spread wide with musical chirps, the wind catching his feathers as he soared over the field. "Týr!" Taka called to the Fletchling, receiving a call in return, "Time to play..."
Twirling through the air, circling back from over his ghastly opponent, he kept himself keen for the command to follow - "Why not show everyone how nimble you are... and speed it up!"
"Fletch!" Pumping his wings to fly higher, the Fletchling suddenly pulled them in close, his tiny, feathered body falling into a sharp dive. There was something charming about free-falling, something that made one feel alive and energized - and it only served to pump Týr up. Mere feet from the ground, the flying type snapped his wings open, pulling out of the dive to bolt toward the Sableye with a shrill cry - tilting his wings to spin through the air as he moved, bringing up a Tail Wind.
With the boost of speed, Týr found it easier to move through the air, twisting and flipping as he moved - clearly enjoying himself. Even through this, there was a serious note in his patterns... and it showed itself as he dove sharply once more, Acrobatics ready on his talons to strike.
100% Freyr hit by Metal Burst and power gem, fainted. Týr enters the battle field, starts with Acrobatics and Tail Wind. Team speed increased for 1/4 turns.

Gollum’s grin stretched from ear to ear as he saw his foe fall from the combined might of his precious sparkle beams and the increased power of the pup’s own fire. There were few things as poetic as using your opponent’s own power against them to make them fall down to his feet. Such a momentous occasion like this was rare for the young Gollum and deserved a little celebration in his opinion.
He was about to do a little victory dance to celebrate his win over the fallen pup that had given him so much pain when he was stopped by an amused voice just as he raised his arms. ”Gollum.” The Sableye turned around to see his father raising an eyebrow and shaking his head as he raised two fingers.
Damn. No celebratory dance for now. Gollum’s grin turned into a pout. He knew better than to try and disobey because father might take away his fun and bring someone else out. It didn’t stop him from huffing though.
His slight sulking was promptly forgotten when the human in the baseball cap took back the pup’s body and called out… a Fletchling. A hatchling this time, huh? It seemed that this human wanted to baptize his pokemon children in shadows and pain. Well, Gollum was more than happy to oblige.
”Gollum. Délit de fuite..” He heard father order just as the bird began its descent towards him.
Gollum snorted and jumped back into the shadows of the arena, sinking into it and entirely dodging the fast bird as it attempted to attack him and failed. A moment later, Gollum resurfaced from the shadows at another part of the arena that was close to the Fletchling’s trainer. His front jewels gleamed for a moment before the gem on his chest shot out a quick, concentrated, sparkling beam of energy towards the Fletchling’s back. Whether or not it hit, the Sableye would immediately follow it up with a second fast sparkle beam from his eyes aimed wherever the Fletchling would go to after the first beam was fired.
OOC Battle summary:
Sableye dodges Acrobatics by diving into the shadows with Shadow Sneak. Upon resurfacing, he fires away with two Power Gems in succession, first from his chest jewel and second from his eyes.

By now, the tactic of falling to shadow came as no surprise to Taka. Instead, he watched the field carefully for the opponent to reappear... and as he did, the corner of his lips tilted upward in a smirk, "Týr, again - equivocate!"
Trilling loudly, acknowleding the order, Týr shifted his wings, sending his tiny body into a barrel roll before quickly shifting direction to dodge the first attack - the speed from his previously used Tail Wind aiding his movements. But that left the issue of the second Power Gem... which, wasn't much of an issue at all. The bird was about nimble, limber movements. Agility was key. Flying head on toward the second Power Gem, the Fletchling used Acrobatics once more, wings tilting - allowing his tiny body to zip around the beam, barely dodging with grace.
Pulling away from the attack, Týr cried out in pride - a little showing off never hurt. Unlike Freyr who was more about delivering heavy blows, Týr enjoyed giving the opponent, and anyone watching, something to gawk at. Takahiro, in truth, didn't mind either - with fire came an inspiration to kindle excitement, not only in himself, but others. Even though his little bird had yet to learn the true passion of flames, he knew how to bring about a spark all the same.
"Good, now... add an edge."
Once again, the tiny form of the Fletching dove down, breaking his fall only inches from the ground, feathers kicking up dust behind him with his sudden change of direction. Zipping toward the Sableye, a bright, silver light encompased his wing, shrinking to a more refined fit as it hardened - a Steel Wing. Shifting slightly in his course, he kept his main focus on his opponent, wing stretched out to strike.
100% Týr dodges first power gem, uses Acrobatics to dodge second. Follows up with Steel Wing. Team speed increased for 2/4 turns.

Miguel blinked at the unfamiliar common word. What did that word translate into Kalosian or either of his native languages again? Merde. He knew he should have bought his Common-to-Kalosian dictionary along with him to this exhibition but his pride and his need of maintaining his façade didn’t allow him to openly read the dictionary in front of so many people. He had a reputation to maintain after all and reading the dictionary is an open admission that he hadn’t mastered Common as well as he would have liked.
Still, he figured that it had something to do with crafty dodging because that bird was moving away from both of his Sableye’s attacks like a pro instead of tanking at least one like the pup had before it. He could appreciate artistry and nimbleness in the air as it reminded him of fond memories in his long-buried past. He wished he could take a closer look or ask for a further demonstration, but he was not here for a show. He and Gollum were here as the show.
And it was time to give them another one. ”Graver avec la lumière.” Miguel grinned as the bird finished with its acrobatics and was starting to dive.
Gollum giggled as he sank back into the shadows he had been standing on, avoiding the glowing wing that had been heading his way by mere inches. The bird should have known better than to try while he still hadn’t moved away from his beloved shadows, but why would he complain? The gem-studded ghost quickly traveled through the shadows and emerged on the other side of the arena that was close to the Fletchling’s trainer. As soon as he emerged, he saw his trainer’s subtle head nod and looked towards where the Fletchling would have gone. His body shone bright with power and unleashed a bright dazzling pink light that engulfed the entire arena, hoping to blind everyone in it for at least a moment and even hopefully hurt his opponent with the light too. An instant later he fired off several blue fireballs hidden by the light that sped towards the Fletchling at unnaturally-fast speeds one would associate with the likes of Quick Attack.
OOC Battle summary:
Sableye dodges Steel Wing with Shadow Sneak. He reappears to the right of the bird while still within its line of vision and fills the entire arena with a Dazzling Gleam, hoping to damage it and blind it at the same time to hide his second attack - a Prankster-boosted Will-O-Wisp (+1 priority means it's as fast as Quick Attack) fired off right after the Dazzling Gleam.

I will hide myself below I'll be what you wanted
Miss. Miss. Miss. Miss.
Nothing seemed to be working - except for Takahiro's mind. Working on overdrive as he watched, observing his opponents tactic - which, by now, was pretty clear. Using the shadows to your advantage... He narrowed his eyes, watching the opponent giggle as he faded back into the shadows, .... maybe that's how we can do this...
With Týr diving, Taka brought his fingers to his mouth to give a shrill whistle - the bird swooping back up as quickly as he went down. Keeping his eyes on the field, running back and forth - watching, waiting - Takahiro kept himself on edge. The enemy could appear anywhere at any time... and as things were, he thought himself lucky for the sneaky ghost to appear close to him. A smirk formed on his face, calling to his pokemon high in the sky, "Týr, This way! Quick - Acrobatics - Get in behind!"
Trilling, Týr gave a particularly harsh pump of his wings, sending his tiny body into a series of graceful movements into the air as the Sableye's next attack illuminated the stadium in a blinding light. Bringing his hand up to shield his eyes, Taka waited, watching his bird fall into place behind the sableye - the fire type move flying into nothing with it's target in a completely different area. Perfect. With that light, we should be able to get in somewhat unnnoticed... and there's nowhere for you to run to.
This would have to be timed just right - not waiting long enough would result in Týr missing - still being blinded by the light and waiting too long would let the opponent get away. Carefully, he watched the light fade and the movements of Týr, waiting for a sign that he could see well enough once more to make their net move.
And seeing his head turn to face Gollum, Taka knew it was now.
"Týr! Time to play a game! Bring him up!" Spreading his talons before him as he listened to Taka's voice, the Fletchling dove for Gollum once more, his feet shifting to a stance where he could grab, or at least attempt to grab, the other and yank and toss him into the air. As he moved, he also prepared a Steel Wing with another Acrobatics for added power - planning to either use it to hit the Sableye higher into the air... or into the ground should his 'little game' fail.
100% Týr dodges dazzling glean using Acrobatics to get behind Sableye - in doing so, will-o-wisp fails to hit. Attempts to grab Gollum and get him into the air - preparing a Steel Wing with an added Acrobatics to bounce him higher or an attempted hit if he can't get the other up. Team speed increased for 3/4 turns.
Kept inside I won't let go 'Till I burn beyond control

THESE ARE THE DAYS
WHEN I HATE THE WORLD

As soon as the light cleared up, Gollum frowned. There was no crispy fried Fletchling anywhere in sight! He was sure that the attack would hit since it was supposed to be insanely hard to dodge a light-based move… or at least that was what father told him. Had it failed? Had he made a miscalculation?
”Gollum! Behind you!” The sound of father’s voice made his head snap up towards him. Behind him? He turned around… and if his eyes could widen, then they would have when he saw the bird’s tiny but still intimidating-looking talons right in his face.
Still, trying to grab onto a ghost without an elemental move was folly. The talons simply passed through him harmlessly with they tried to grab onto him. His eyes glowed with power as he prepared to counter the bird with a hit it would feel for days, only to thwarted when its wings smashed him to the ground with incredible force. Normally he would still be able to withstand a couple of hits from those wings but he wasn’t coming into this battle fresh. He was still weak from when the Houndour did a number on him before falling to his assault, and the assault was enough to prove as a tipping point to turn his entire world black.
The game has failed but so had he.
Miguel’s smile dimmed for a moment when he saw Gollum slammed onto the ground. He waited for a few moments to try and see if he was going to get back up… only to see not even a hint of movement from the fallen ghost.
Gollum had been defeated. Miguel gave his opponent a nod and a tip of his hat to congratulate him on felling his pokemon and then recalled the fallen Sableye without fanfare. He stared at the pokeball for a moment before shrugging and putting it back in his coat pocket, exchanging it for another one. He whispered something to this one before tossing it up in the air.
In a flash of light, a tall blue jackal wearing a black choker set with a marble-like stone appeared on the arena. His red eyes regarded the bird with a calculating stare as he flexed his muscles and bulked himself up in preparation for combat. He then gave it a wink before disappearing, leaving only the dust he kicked up behind him.
Those with sharp eyes might be able to see a blue blur headed towards the Fletchling at positively mind-boggling speeds, intending to ram it with both his body and his fist in a powerful combo that would hit from the side in an arching trajectory. Unlike the first one that had come out, he wasn’t here to play games or be a sadist. He was here to win. But first, he had to see if the bird would manage to survive his first volley because he didn’t like fighting weaklings. He didn’t train under Miguel to fight weaklings, after all.
OOC Battle summary:
Sableye faints after taking Steel Wing and Acrobatics. Lucario is sent out. He uses Bulk Up followed by a combination of Extreme Speed and Drain Punch aimed at the bird's side.
