Popular in Unova, was she? Well, she didn't seem to be keen on explaining. Alas, there wasn't much he could do as she wasn't giving him any sort of answer. Oh well. Naught he could do. But she did seem keen on the thought of a sparring match, though he saw the obvious attempt at trying to get a type advantage via getting him to send his Pokemon out first. Josh would shrug. A challenge was fine, he supposed.
"Well, why don't I send my Pokemon out, and I'll just pick from them?" He would suggest as he brought out his Pokeballs and let them out...
"GROOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAARR!"
A Charizard wouldbe let out first, bigger then most. At 8 feet tall, the Charizard was obviously vicious. Up next? A Blastoise, who took his place at the Charizard's side. The three Kanto starters stood side by side... Charizard, Blastoise... Bulbasaur? It looked like Gustave still had some training to do.
Lightning, his Pikachu, would take his place among them, as would Max, the Growlithe. But who would be the last Pokemon out?
"Groooo!"
A Dragonite! An oddly colored one, might I add... It was blue, with red wings. "Hmm..." Josh began as he looked them all over. "Y'know, not a whole lotta these guys need the sparring right now. But I know two hungry newcomers who could use it..." He began as he would motion toward Gustave and Max. "While Max is a little young, I think he'll do okay. With Gustave at his side, I'm sure he'll be fine"

Sarah kind of felt bad for not giving a full answer, but the truth is the girl was shy and cautious, she wanted people to be her friend because of who she was as a person not as a champion. The teenager only wished she had brought her A team, with her, but instead she chose to start the journey a fresh and came with only Growlithe and wailmer. Sarah waited carefully and watched as the male mentioned his intents on bringing all of his pokemon out.
With a terrorfying roar Sarah saw a massive charizard come out, the pokemon looked vicious alongside with a blastoises, she could see the trio of kanto starters and folded her arms, she smiled seeing a Pikachu and then the growlithe, she thought it was all until she saw a peculiar colored dragonite she watched the team of pokemon “Incredible” she spoke in awe and sat down in shock, growlithe had to admit he found it intimidating to see all these fully grown pokemon.
Sarah could see josh decide and in the end out of all these massive pokemon he chose the growlithe and bulbasaur I see, so he isn’t going to take me seriously…I shouldn’t get so offended by it, this is only a training match, well then if that’s the case I shall treat this as a coorination training session[/i] she thought to herself, picking herself up Sarah closed her eyes for a moment “It’s time to shine, Come forth” Grabbing five pokeballs from her side Sarah unleashed her Wailmer, the Pokemon bounced about as pichu followed running after wailmer and jumping on her head. Zubat come out with ralts landing on zubats back followed by nidoran landing and running circles around Sarah’s feet in joy.
The teenager folded her arms considering her options as her pokemon gathered behind her, while growlithe sat at her side, she looked down at her growlithe”Growlithe…Ralts your up”
Growlithe stood up and stretched while ralts made her way to the side of her team mate, Sarah looked at josh as her ralts climbed onto growlithe’s back “since you brought out your pokemon first, It’s only fair you go first” she spoke wanting to give josh a fair shot She watched as ralts pet the growlithe’s head and the pup enjoyed it “Everyone watch the match oky, Ralts…Growlithe I’m counting on you both to do our best” She spoke encouraging her pokemon.

Truth be told, Josh had not picked his Pokemon due to Sarah's skill level, or the likelihood of what Pokemon she would bring out. In the end, it boiled down to who needed the training most. Gustave and Max were the least experienced members of this particular team, and Josh had set out to rectify that. Of course, Gustave had dealt with a handful of battles prior, while this would be the first for Max.
Of course, once the Growlithe and Bulbasaur took their positions, Sarah would take her place and send out her Pokemon. Josh's team would take an interest in the battle, seeing as Josh had let them out due to him generally liking to have them watch, so that they can learn everything they can. It was just another form of training, watching secondhand Pokemon and their moves, so they knew how to counter them themselves.
[Battle Rules: No HP, no damage calculator. 4 moves per turn, dodges count as moves. This spreads to both of your Pokemon in a double battle, so you cannot do more then 4 per turn. Try to be reasonable, but have fun. The battle ends when one party feels that it's a good time to stop]
"You want me to go first, do you?" He asked with a chuckle. "Alright, if you say so!" He would add. "Gustave, use Flamethrower on Ralts, then use Flare Blitz!" He called as the Growlithe would quickly begin to charge, flames engulfing the pup as he would charge in a reckless tackle toward the Ralts. "GROWLOOOOO!" He let out as Max would shoot a flurry of flames toward the Ralts as he charged, before going for the Flare Blitz...
That left Growlithe open to attack though.. "Gustave! I know you're at a type disadvantage, but I've seen you tackle Fire types before!" Josh encouraged. "Quick, use Seed Bomb and try to catch him off guard!" Josh encouraged. "Bulba!" Gustave let out as he would launch several seeds, explosive seeds might I add, toward Growlithe. "Use Power Whip to knock them toward Growlithe even faster, without blowing them up, then use the vines themselves to attack!" Josh would add. Gustave would nod, as the vines from his bulb would come out for a Power Whip attack, slamming into the seed bombs and sending them rocketing toward Growlithe. Whether they hit or not though, Gustave would try to use the whips to attack Growlithe as well...

Sarah watched as josh took no time in announcing the orders to his pokemon and when he did her eyes widen, she knew from the start this would be intense but to go out double attack it, it was intense, ralts had remained on Growlithe’s head petting it until the pokemon heard josh and got serious “Growlithe you need to protect ralts from those attacks, take them, Ralts take cover[/url]” Ralts had hopped off the growlithes head and onto it’s back hiding at the back of growlithe’s neck as the flamethrower struck growlithe, ralts could see the flames go past the sides the of growlithe, using the puppy as a human shield was brilliant. Growlithe was struck by the flame blitz and send sliding off the ground.
Growlithe recovered from the attacks shaking it off, the puppy was fine thanks to flash fire, it’s ability to be empowered by it. and with ralts hidden at the back of growlithe’s neck the streams of fire didn’t reach it nor did the flame blitz. Sarah watched as the seed bombs struck growlithe and around him too followed by the power whip she had to admit it was impressive to use the power whip to make the seed bombs faster, growlithe growled he didn’t like the seed bomb “is it too late to go first” she spoke flailing.
The teenager closed her eyes “Growlithe…Agility follow it up by flamethrower at bulbasaur, Ralts use heal pulse on growlithe and then psychic attack on the other growlithe” she ordered. Ralts hung on as Growlithe picked up in speed and began to work its heal pulse magic healing her team mate, while growliteh got to bulbasaur and point blank launched a flame thrower, while ralts had launched a psychic attack at the growlithe in aims of keeping it from bulbasaur, the teenager opened her eyes looking determined even if it was just a sparring session she wanted to go all out.
------------------------------------------------------ Hope this is okay haven't done a battle before aside from the captures
so a summery ralts was on the back of growlithe so she used growlithe as a human shield to take the flame attacks, because growlithe has flash fire it's attacks only improve in power when hit with fire moves, i dont think damage is caused if getting hit by fire attacks as well.
Growlithe was hit by both grass attacks, now ralts used heal pulse on my growlithe followed by a psychic at yours, and growlithe used agility to increase it's speed and flamethrower at your bulbasaur.

It appeared that Josh had underestimated Sarah just a bit. The creative way to block both fire attacks was good, but now Josh knew her strategy, and would change his accordingly. This had become a 1 on 1 battle of sorts, and in a moment she would see why. The Ralts would smartly use Psychic on Max to try and open up Gustave for the Flamethrower, but Josh had other plans. "Gustave, jump on Max, and bring him down, take cover from the Flamethrower using him as a shield!" Josh would call. Gustave would nod and leap up onto Max, with the Flamethrower harmlessly hitting the Growlithe, who also had Flash Fire as an ability. The pressure would allow Max to shake out of the Psychic before it could cause any real damage.
"Gustave, use Seed Bomb on Growlithe!" Josh would call as the two would land. "Bulba!" Gustave let out as he would quickly shoot an array of seeds toward Growlithe that would explode on contact. "You know the drill, use Power Whip to increase their speed, then attack!" Josh would add. The Bulbasaur would nod before the vines came back out, expertly hitting the seeds toward Growlithe, before turning to whip him right back. "Now finish with Take Down on Ralts! Max, run alongside Gustave and cover him from Growlithe's attacks!" Josh would call.
Gustave would quickly begin his charge, with a reckless tackle heading straight for Ralts. Max would run by his side, keeping him obstructed from her Growlithe.

Sarah was afraid that this would happen that josh would also use the flash fire as a shield, she knew her growlithe’s power would be compromised, still there was something that bulbasaur couldn’t do that ralts could“Growlithe use agility, again to get out of the way, Ralts psychic on the powert whip disable growlithe” she spoke Sarah watched as growlithe moved with great speed as the seed bombs came crashing around, the pokemon’s burst of speed was incredible, used twice in a row it was only natural, while ralts eyes glowed to use psychic on the bulbasaurs power whip, it would use the power whip to wrap the vines around growlithe’s feet. To hog tie it if sucessful
Sarah smiled “time to go onto offense, growlithe flamethrower from the side” There was no doubt some of the flames would still hit growlithe and the pokemon’s flash fire would get the power up, but right at the moment bulbasaur was the target, Sarah knew her own strategy better than anyone, with josh thinking he could turn this battle into some sort of knight jest bout and get away with it, he was wrong.
Sarah watched as growlithe continued to move about and stopped at the side of the bulbasaur and used flamethrower
------------------------ Used agility to pump up speed again, to get out of the way of the seed bomb, ralts used psychic to redirect the power whip to hug tie max, Growlithe used Flamethrower at bulbasaur from the side

She was impressive, he had to admit. But Josh was seasoned. And he was crafty. "Use Agility, Max!" Josh called as Max would suddenly speed up as well, keeping the hogtie from even touching him, and giving Gustave the moment needed to retract his vines. But there was the retracted Flamethrower to deal with still... "Max, Agility, again!" Josh would call. The Growlithe would nod and suddenly speed up, allowing himself to get back in front of the Bulbasaur and take the Flamethrower again.
Now, from this close range, Josh could use a certain set of attacks and take the advantage here, but... He felt his and her Pokemon were already tired out. For a normal battle, they might continue, but this was just a mere sparring session. No need to exhaust them, they had gotten the training they had sought for in this session.
"Alright, that's enough for now" Josh said, motioning for Gustave and Max to come back. As they headed back, Josh kneeled down and patted them both on the head with a smile. "You both did great. I'm very proud of you" He said. "This was the first Trainer battle for the both of you, and you did me proud. I'm grateful for that" He said before getting up and turning toward Sarah.
"For a Coordinator, you're very creative when it comes to battles" He observed. "What's your mindset toward battling?"
Post by Sarah Wentworth on Jan 28, 2015 17:45:10 GMT -5
Sarah had thought her combo had been impressive, that it would be successful, but she frowned when it more or less failed. When josh mentioned it was an end to the spar she watched as he congratulated his pokemon
As her pokemon came to her she crouched and petted growlithe and ralts “Yay we weren’t totally obliviated” she cheered, growlithe gave a huff from annoyance, he felt he could totally kick ass of the other growlithe he wanted to continue the battle, but he also wanted the pats, he would settle for the shared affection he got with ralts Sarah’s other pokemon had watched the entire thing impressed.
The teenager looked up at josh “um thank you, sorry if it wasn’t good….uh….uh what did you mean about mindset toward battling” she asked confused, Sarah felt that she did horrible during that battle, she knew she could have been better, but she just struggled through out it.

Josh thought she was being rather hard on herself, and gave a heartwarming smile in response. "You did well. Don't set your battling standards so high. You're a Coordinator" He advised with a chuckle. "You were creative, and thought outside the box. I recognize several of your strategies, I've done them myself in the past" He would explain.
"Your mindset. What's on your mind before, during and after a battle?" The blonde would ask, curious about picking her brain. It was good to hear about her mindset, as he could gleam something himself, or better, give advice and suggestions to help Sarah's own game. Josh enjoyed helping other Trainers, even Coordinators, improve the best he could.
"As well... Since I only have the two here with me that really need training... Why don't we have another battle in a bit?" He would suggest. "I have a ranch not far from here. My Pokemon are there, I can grab whichever ones need training and we can spar for as long as you like"

Sarah looked at her friends, growlithe and ralts did so well, growlithe wagged his tail in joy and it would not stop he was hopeful the reward would be chilly, she thought about josh’s question when he explain what he meant “oh, uh well before I battle I get really really nervous, but then during the battle im excited, there’s like this rush of energy and then when the other person attacks, I get scared, but then I will just think and it happen sort of like a rush of instinct.” she explained.
She had to admit she was disappointed when josh said that he had previously used some of her strategies she was hopeful that she was thinking outside the box when really it was something anyone would use. She knew she had to think of something new in future.
Sarah glanced at josh’s pokemon again they were impressive, she wondered how she encountered each of them mostly the charizard, normally they were at five feet but the one he had was nearing eight feet he was a mammoth. Sarah nodded her head “Sure I would love to battle you again, I need all the practice I can get” she spoke. Pichu approached the giant charizard and started poking it’s foot, Sarah would give her rat pokemon credit, she was brave alright brave and insane.

Josh would cross his arms, listening as she spoke of her mindset. So it was all instinctual, huh? Similar to him... Except his intelligence from his studies in psychology, as well as his experience came through and allowed him to think outside the box like he did.
Truthfully, Josh hadn't meant it as in her tactics were something that anyone would use. It took a certain type of mindset, a certain type of thought process in order to think outside the box and use those moves. Josh was just one of those people, that was what he was trying to convey, not that she was unoriginal. He was quite proud of the progress she had made.
He chuckled a bit when her Pichu tried to brave the giant Charizard. Fawkes would look down at it, before blowing a gust of air at it, blowing it back. Josh couldn't help but laugh, and neither could the other Pokemon. Of course, Fawkes was just playing though. "Oh Fawkes, let it have it's fun" He said, patting the Charizard on the head. He would smile when she gave her answer about the battle.
"Alright, well why don't we pack up and head for the ranch?" He would ask. "We can sit down, get something to eat, and then we can have our next round of sparring" He suggested with a smile as he would turn to his Pokemon. "Alright guys, let's get ready to g-"
He would stop dead as he realized his Pokemon were crowded around something, with worried looks on their face. The blonde would quickly push through the circle to find what was going on, and what he found horrified him.
Gustave looked weak, he was breathing heavily, and seemed to be having a hard time standing on all four feet. "Gustave?" Josh would let out as he would walk toward the Bulbasaur, who would finally lose his footing and collapse. His bulb would start blinking cyan all of a sudden...
"Gustave!" Josh let out, suddenly panicked as he would begin returning his Pokeball to their Pokeballs, besides Lightning and Gustave. He would let Lightning climb onto his shoulder before picking up Gustave in his arms. He would look at Sarah and take a breath. "The ranch isn't far, if you want to come with me, feel free and we can spar after I get Gustave checked out. My mother's a researcher, as well as a former Trainer. She should know what's wrong with him" He said, but he had no time to check to see if she was following before he broke off at a run.
Post by Sarah Wentworth on Jan 29, 2015 17:41:51 GMT -5
Sarah smiled seeing her pichu blown away, she recalled everyone into their pokeballs, the laughter quickly ended when something was wrong with bulbasaur, she could see the way he struggled, and understandably josh was upset, he was quick to act “I need to stop by the pokemon center, I will catch up with you as fast as I can, be safe and take care little gustuv” She spoke as the trainer ran off. Sarah couldn’t help worry about the pokemon, as josh ran off she looked down before running off to the pokemon center.
Sarah had her pokemon healed, and sent zubat back home, she had decided she was going to try and train one of her newer pokemon, Rufflet he was a peculiar little bugger. The teenager had made sure rufflet was in good condition before she left the pokemon i don't understand from what i could see there wasn't much damage on bulbasaur during the battle[/i] she thought quietly
