Fiddlesticks. No, this deserved a far cruder word than fiddlesticks. ”Ohhhh fuuuudge.” Except Danny didn’t say “fudge”. He said THE word, the one, the queen-mother of dirty words, the “F-dash-dash-dash” word! And for good reason, too. The holidays were coming up, and the one gift he wanted to physically give to Amber was having some delays on Amazon. Meeting up wasn’t going to be easy anyways, since travel in and out of Iceburgh was increasingly becoming a challenge as the snow started to pick up, and the rush of the wind swept its hands across the freshly fallen layer of snow to coat the ground with the snow it picked it from the Wilds. Iceburgh’s suburban houses stood as firm as a reinforced redoubt against the budding blizzard, but as Danny scribbled down various ideas on some scrap paper he picked up at the closes Pokemon Center, he couldn’t shake the thought that the weather wasn’t bad enough to chill out in for about 30 minutes, give or take. ”Son of a nutcracker…I got it.” It was going to take a little preparation on his end, but with how festive the Pokemon Center was for the holidays, a lot of time was saved by discreetly borrowing a few decorations here and there for the cause. It took some rehearsal, and Danny’s phone often needed to recharge in-between takes due to the way the video sapped its battery power away faster than a fleeing thief that had their toes set on fire, but he got it. The final, most beautiful take was soon to be sent to Amber’s phone in the form of a YouTube link, with a small text saying ‘Merry Christmas, Ambi Bambi’ tagged below it. It was innocent looking enough to casually click on it, but how a link could be a Christmas present was anyone’s guess. The YouTube video loads, and it feels as if the buffering loading cycle will never end, but after all of that suspense, the image flickers up and down as the camera adjusts itself to focus on the massive beak of Danny’s Pelipper, Larry. The camera zooms, revealing the rest of Larry’s décor, featuring various bands of silver bells that streamed across his neck and wings, giving each ethereal movement a jaunty jingle in response. Some shuffling behind the camera could be heard, but it quieted down as the Carol of the Bells resounds across an unoccupied street corner where few cars dared to drive by due to the low visibility of the night and snow, but the video is illuminated enough thanks to the street lights, and a few additional sources of light that stood behind Larry, who gleefully shook his wings to the beat. Suddenly the camera pulls out, and Larry hops to join his caroling troupe, consisting of a Herdier, an Emolga, a Numel, a Trapinch, and a Pansage, all decorated in rosy red ribbons and wreathes that were plucked off the staircase of the Pokemon Center when no one was looking. They’d get the stuff back when they were done. Probably. Numel chimed in next with his low baritone voice, and as he balanced a lit candle in his stubby paws, he ducked and inched away from the Pelipper’s energetic dance, often becoming the victim of a wing smack because he couldn’t move away in time. Next came the Herdier, who was topped off with a Santa hat because his scruffy maw made him look as if he had the facial hair to match. Like the Numel, he had a candlestick balanced in-between his paws, but the pooch’s howls could barely be heard when stage fright wrapped a leather muzzle tightly around his mouth and neck. ”Can’t hear you, Leeroy!” Danny called from behind the camera, and while the viewers couldn’t see it, he couldn’t hide his impatience with the Herdier’s muffled vocals. One irritated look was all it took for the Herider to energetically howl with the rest of the group, and while Leeroy wasn’t perfectly on key, it still sounded better overall with him singing his part. For the last three, the Trapinch and Pansage were given harmonizing roles, while Danny’s Emolga was given the highest part in the song, where her voice hopped up and down like it was repetitively hiking and trailing down the same staircase, but when paired with the rest of the group, she hardly sounded repetitive at all. ”Oh how they pound, raising the sound! O’er hill and dale, telling their tale!” Despite Danny’s best efforts to film the group with the best image possible; snow softly falling on a wintry night, illuminated by Iceburgh’s city lights, and it was all carefully positioned so Mt.Halo could be seen in the far off horizon. It was gorgeous until Danny started honking in his comedic belch of a voice, turning the camera angle into selfie mode as he pranced and carried the camera with him. ”Gaily they ring! While people sing! Songs of good cheer! Christmas is here!” He crashed into the center of the group, and those that were carefully balancing their candles in limbs that weren’t so good at candle holding fumbled mid-song and dropped them into the snow. But the song went on! ”Merry merry merry merry Christmas! Merry merry merry merry Christmas!” Danny wheezed between laughs, struggling to sit upright as he held the camera as far away from himself as possible, and all of the small caroling faces struggled to squeeze into the frame as they barked and howled. ”On, on they send. On without end. Their joyful tone, to ev’ry home.” ”Ding, dong, ding, dong” “Ding, dong, ding, dong” “Merry Christmas, from hashtag Team Dannayyyyy!” Despite being out of breath by the end of the song, Danny managed to end it off with a shout and a smile, giddy with relief that they managed to pull it off.
