Douglas, it's Josh. I hope you've continued your training to get to your full potential. Remember when I made an offer before we parted? Well, I think it's time. I think it's time you met someone special to my heart as well.
We are on Mt. Pyre right now, in a cave near the top. It's the only open cave in that part of Mt. Pyre, so you'll be hard pressed to miss it. Feel free to come ASAP so introductions can be made.
And so Josh and Maxine would walk along Mt. Pyre, likely the first time ever for young Maxine Quinlan. They'd been traveling together since reuniting in Slateport City, as Josh had found out that Maxine was alive. They had talked amongst themselves, about the things going on in Hoenn, and how they both felt they needed to get stronger to avenge their failure back in Kohaku... But how? How could they do it? Then, ideas hit. And Josh had found a great 3rd man to their idea. Doug Glick had plenty of potential, the blonde knew. But how to tap into it... How to tap into it while also training themselves, making all three of them, and their pokemon, stronger and able to handle the dangers that plagued this world? They would not fail again... They couldn't.
Finally, they came to the cave. Josh would press a button hidden in a rock on the wall, and the cave would open up for them. "Welcome to my secret base" he said, smiling over at Maxine as he let the woman go in first. "Pika!" Lightning chirped as he rode happily on his shoulder. "I've spent days, even weeks here, just training nonstop" he explained.
Mt. Pyre.. This had to be her first time going back travelling with her old friend, Josh. He had mentioned about her meeting another person on this mountain that she would get along with and could battle as well. The trail up there wasn't something she expected, and the fact that he only pressed a button to open an entrance boggled her mind. Well, he had his ways around secret bases back when the two were travelling in Kohaku. "Weeks? I bet it was worth it, hopefully you both ate and slept in between that period." She cracked over to him as she started walking into the base, right now it wasn't lit so well except for an open door.
"Hey Josh, you said quite a bit about this guy, what else is he like besides quiet like me? And his Pokemon too, could be totally new to being a Trainer?" Maxine asked the blonde once she was inside and slid her arm behind her back, her head tilting a little. Hopefully she didn't end up going quiet and shy on him, yes she wasn't comfortable around new people, but if Josh knows him he's good then. "Maybe we'll get along?"
There it was... Mt. Pyre. It took quite a bit of traveling from his previous destination and then a brief boat ride across the water to get to the island. There wasn't very much grassy ground at the bottom, but there was a lot of rocky ground to traverse through to get to the top. Doug stepped off the boat and then began walking up the mountain toward the top. His partner in (no) crime, Oron, was plopped on his head, being immersed in his coppery colored hair and snoozing. Doug looked around and took a deep breath, taking in a bit of the fresh air that surrounded the island. He continued stepping up the mountain, the rocky ground crackling under his feet, until he eventually had reached what appeared to be some kind of entrance near the top of the mountain and scratched the side of his head a little. "It seems to be sealed off... I wonder if I'm supposed to knock on it or something." He said aloud to himself. He then walked up and sort of knocked on the sealed entrance to see if they would hear it. "Hellooooo?" He asked. "What am I supposed to do heeeeere?" He added on.

He laughed a bit at Maxine's question and worrying as they walked in. "Well... Kind of" he said, smirking. "We didn't pack as much as we should have last time, but I did go to town eventually to stock up. But we spent a lot of time in the day training or sleeping, so... Eh. It was hard work, but damn has it been worth it" he said.
He smirked a bit and wrapped an arm around Maxine playfully at her next series of questions. "Oh I'm sure you'll get along just fine" he promised. "He has a Pichu as well, so Ritchie will have a new playmate" he added with a grin. "You seem to be a fan of Pikachu and Pichu Trainers, I think you'll be fine" he jipped with a laugh. "He also has a Solrock and a Poliwag, last I checked. He's probably caught even more since then. Who knows?"
Someone would knock on the "door" not too long after it sealed behind them. Josh would open the door to welcome Doug, and waved casually.
"You've arrived" he said. "Doug" he said, motioning toward Maxine. "This is Maxine. My old and current traveling partner. Maxine, this is Doug, an impressive young Trainer I met in Littleroot"
Doug stood at the entrance with his hands on his hips as it would momentarily open up after he bonked his hand against it. As expected, there was Josh opening the door in all his tall, blonde glory. Doug would give a small gesture with his index and middle finger up, a sort of small wave with a peace sign of some kind. He listened as Josh would, soon enough, begin speaking to him, giving the little introductions between him and a girl that appeared rather nice. He scratched his head and looked around, stepping into the little lair of sorts. He waved at Maxine momentarily. "Howdy." He simply said with the waving motion. "He kind of already said what my name is... So... Yeah. I'm Doug. Nice to meet you and stuff." He added on, nodding his head and holding out his hand to shake hers because that's polite and stuff... Yeah.
This male seemed quiet and reserved like herself, her eyes peeked up at the blonde as he gave the two their introductions. Maxine slid her hand out to grasp onto his and gave him a firm shake, smiling up a little, "Nice to meet you, Doug. I hope we can get to know each other more.." She spoke up and fell silent again, well since he was close to Josh she would slowly open up more to the redhead.
Well, looks like they're going to get along. Though it occurred to her now that Josh's arm was around her and felt her face blush quickly, looking up to Josh and nodding her head, "Since we're here, what did you want to talk to us about?" Maxine questioned and slid her arm back behind her. "Josh told me a lot about you.." Her attention focused back to Doug, "He said you have some great potential, I'm excited to see it."

He nodded as he let them introduce themselves, smirking at Maxine's reaction to his arm being around here. "You see, despite your potential, you're still both rather green" he explained. "I mean, yeah, Maxine you traveled with me. I know what you can do. But I've seen you, you still got a lot of work to do. And that's not a bad thing, you got as much potential as Doug here does. You've proven that to me. What I WANT to do is take that potential, and this goes for both of you... I wanna grab that potential you two have. I wanna mold it, I wanna train it. I want to help you two become the best that you can be"
"You see kids, the reason I brought you here is so you can bounce off each other and myself to train. Having a regular sparring partner, and moreso two, is an amazing boon for an aspiring Trainer to have. You can go together to train against wild Pokemon, or go with me. You can battle each other, or with me. Constantly improving your own skills and that of your Pokemon"
"Of course, there's one more piece to the puzzle. Maxine's already met her, but Doug I'll be introducing you to her soon. Izumi. She's an experienced Trainer who's been around the block once or twice. She'll be around to train with, or battle with, and she and I will be doing the same thing you are. Train. This is meant to benefit all four of us. We'll all get experience and become better if we work together as a team"
"And a benefit you two have is... You can pick the brains of two more experienced trainers for advice and how tos. You're going to have everything you need in order to become great Trainers right at your fingertips. You'll each have three different people to bounce off of and work with at any given time to improve you and your Pokemon. Everyone wins" he explained.
"For now... Why don't you two have a battle? It could be a good way to test your skills and improve the bonds you have with your Pokemon" he suggested. "I'll referee, if you guys wanna step outside?" he asked as he walked out of the cave, motioning for them to following.
Eventually, he would come to a large area on the mountain. The space wasn't tight, so there wasn't too much threat of falling off the mountain. It was a rocky crag, with destructible rocks everywhere for use in hiding, leverage and high ground. A great environmental battlefield"
"This'll do nicely. This will be a good way to learn to use the terrain and everything around you to your advantage" he explained. "Whenever you two are ready... If you want to do this"
Doug nodded after he shook Maxine's hand and she gave her polite "nice to meet you" back to him. "I'm sure we will get to know each other more." He would say. His hands would slip back into the pockets of his jackets and he nodded. "Yeah, he's told me that himself..." He said when Maxine mentioned the whole potential thing, one of his hands reaching up and scratching the back of his curly, red head of hair, making sure not to disturb the napping Pichu on his head, before slipping back into the jacket pocket.
Doug would then shift his attention more towards Josh as he began to explain what was going on here. He explained of his desire to make them be the very best that no one ever was. His eyes would narrow slightly when Josh called them kids momentarily, but he just let it be for now. He nodded a little as he listened to Josh speak.
Josh would then make mention of an "Izumi", some other experienced trainer of some sort. Doug would reach a hand up and scratch his chin, seeing something nifty out of having some other experienced trainer there to be of assistance.
Of course though, Josh would mention the ultimatum of the Pokemon world between the two new buddies, a Pokemon battle between him and Maxine! Something that could be of potential use for him to try and improve his skills and get a better synergy going on for him and his partners in crime, not legitimate crime of course.
Doug would watch Josh walk out before he or Maxine could really give an answer and he glanced his eyes over at Maxine, shrugged, and began following after him. After some walking, they would come across a wide, rocky area perfect for a battlefield. Doug whistled slightly, nodding. "This could work... Lots of potential maneuvering on this area... I don't really see the harm in a battle here. It's helpful after all..." Doug would say in his quiet, deep voice. He would then look for any input from Maxine before anything else would occur.
His desire to help the two grab their potential and how all of them teaming up into a group will help them reach it through battling, appearing that Doug was a new Trainer and Maxine was continuing her journey where it stopped abruptly. This was good for the two and it was actually very moving, like it was beginning to inspire her, well that was until he mentioned about her.
The redhead hasn't met her yet? Well, he was in for a surprise since she's an experienced trainer, possibly more than Josh but guess it was good to have an extra set of help? Wait, by three? Before she could ask the blonde a question he suggested they step outside, exchanging a glance with Doug she copied his shrug back at him and followed them outside.
Appearing outside in a wide rocky area had her eyes gaze around the space, feeling it lower once Josh brought up the two should have a battle here. This was the perfect battlefield for them and felt his quiet voice agreeing to the battle. Her eyes picked up for a moment and nodded back, lowering once again. "I wouldn't mind.. If it'll help us get stronger." Maxine spoke up, but growing silent afterwards. Maybe this battle will be quick? The two don't seem to be too comfortable right now.

Josh would nod at their agreement to their idea. "Alright, again, I'll be the referee" Josh said as he would stand on top of a bigger rock, using it as a podium for a referee.
He took a breath and waited for them to take their places on opposing sides of the battlefield.
"Alright, you two!" he said, cracking his neck. "Listen up. This will be a 3 on 3 Single Battle! You may use any Pokemon in your party, and substitutions will be allowed! The Trainer who can knock out 3 of their opponent's Pokemon will be the winner!" he instructed. "You may use this entire craig as your battlefield, but please be careful about the cliffs. If a Pokemon falls off, help them get back up, I don't care if you get competitive or not. A life is more important then a competition, and this is just a sparring match!" he stated firmly.
"Alright, if you two are ready... Begin!"
(Feel free to skip me until the battle is over. I'll pop in with posts sometimes though, but at random)
Doug looked at Josh standing on a large rock, explaining the relatively simple set of rules for him in all his strange glory and his awkward friend to follow for their battle here, firmly noting the use of the rocky battlefield around them and to be wary of any cliffs.
With the rules explained and out of the way, Doug looked up at the napping Pichu on his head and poked him a little. "Ey, Oron. You well-rested enough yet?" He said to Oron, snickering a little. The sleepy Pichu would sit up, emerging more from Doug's coppery hair and yawning, stretching his small limbs out a little. He looked around with a twitch of his ear and hopped off of Doug's head, looking up at him. "Chu?" He squeaked. "You wanna do a battle?" Doug asked him. This seemed to pique Oron's interest as he excitedly nodded. "Chu! Chu!" He squeaked out in a more excited tone. Doug chuckled. "I figured so, buddy." He would then say. Oron looked around the battlefield curiously. "Remember this, Oron... Whenever you can, take advantage of the environment. Do what you think will be of benefit, whether it is hiding or getting onto differing grounds." He would explain to the curious little headbanded Pichu. Oron would nod and walk out more onto the battlefield, Doug resting a hand on his hip as he awaited what Maxine would do.
