Fallarbor Town was for losers, and the only reason Danny stayed for as long as he did was so that he could catch a show at the Fallarbor Contest Hall. It was alright, considering that most of the coordinators there were amateurs. It wasn't a trade he'd mingle in other than for fun and show, but his Emolga seemed to be a fan of it. Even now, as they headed into the arid Hoenn Desert, she was still carrying two Fallarbor pompoms as if she was ready to cheer the whole world on. He only let her and Larry watch the show, since he thought they'd get a kick out of it, but Aph liked it more than he thought. "Heh heh, don't go leaving me for some random coordinator. I don't know what I'd do without you. Baby, it's you that I want." The Froakie egg might've been snug in his arms as he walked, but there was plenty of room for Aph, whether she chose to sit on his shoulders or his head, there was room. But instead of perching somewhere that didn't make it hard to walk, she made herself comfortable on his shoe, all while clinging to his leg so she wouldn't fall off. It was kind of cute, but definitely inconvenient for long term travels. <Unless they have comfy feet, I don't think you have to worry. Besides, I don't think the contest scene is ready for me yet.> Aph chirped, nuzzling into his legs in response. It wasn't just any nuzzle though--it was an Emolga Nuzzle. Sparks crackled out in affection as they shot up Danny's leg, making him cringe and hop around in response. "No no no no! Now's not the time for this, Apharoo." The paralysis fully kicked in as he slumped onto his hip, safely tucking the Froakie egg close to his side before any harm could fall upon it. Aph didn't even bother to hop off, simply clinging to him while sideways, nuzzling away at his leg as if it was her personal teddy bear. Once again, kind of cute, but incredibly inconvenient. Aph was lucky that she just passed the cute bar, making all sorts of deviant behavior acceptable in his eyes. And no Cheri Berry was on hand to save him. There might've been a Paralyze Heal somewhere, but how was that going to help him if he couldn't move to get it? "Why do you always do this to me? I am not an electric type. Electricity is pain--when will you get this?" His words weren't reaching her, as she finally let go due to the heat of the nearby Hoenn Desert. Danny could feel the chill of her nose brushing against his arms as she rolled the egg out of his grip, figuring that it could use some fresh air to cool off. At least she didn't have the desire to nuzzle eggs, because the Froakie egg would've been scrambled by now if that was the case. Instead she made an attempt to guard it by sitting beside it, occasionally glaring at the wild Sandshrew that passed by, eyeing that egg like it was some kind of prize. <That's right, bubs. Just a squirrel and her frog egg. Don't mind us and keep walkin'.> She clapped her paws together as if she was setting a faster tempo for them to walk to, and it worked, because they didn't want to end up like the poor sap that was shivering and cringing behind her. Finally shaking off the effects of Nuzzle, which would've been a lot harder to do if Danny was a Pokemon, he stretched and yelped in pain when he felt a tight kink in the center of his neck. This wouldn't have happened if he wasn't paralyzed each time Aph decided to Nuzzle him to death. "I don't think I can take you out in public if you're just going to zap me each time you spread the love. Do you need another electric type around? Is that it?" From what he understood, this was the usual Emolga behavior, but it wasn't limited to the Emolga species. Most of the electric rodents expressed their affection through electricity, some even communicating through electric attacks. If humans were like Emolga, it would probably be like talking through punches to the face. While he was almost entirely against that idea from start to finish, there were a few annoying exceptions out there that he wouldn't mind punching in the face for the sake of 'communicating'. "I need to get you another friend. A friend that can handle those sparks, because this--" He tilted his neck again, cringing as he heard the bones pop and crack multiple times. "...is unacceptable." The only issue with having electric types was that they weren't too friendly with the flying types he liked to collect. Aph was an exception because she happened to be a flying type as well, but she wasn't particularly close to any of the Pokemon he owned. The rest of his team weren't exactly close to each other either, save for Hermes, who got along with Winnie and Zizi for some reason. Maybe he was focusing a little too much on training instead of having fun, but he honestly wanted to catch up to Amber as quickly as he could. If he couldn't battle her and show his skills and growth as a trainer, then he would've been devastated. Sure, he could try laughing it off, but having his smug little sister be better at something and consistently rub it in bothered him more than it should've. They used to be close friends in the past, but at this point, he was seeing her as more of a goal to reach. A rival. "Heh...I can't be second-best forever. Not to her." He sheepishly laughed, rubbing the remaining aches out of his shoulders as he caught Aph's confused glance. "Ah, sorry. I'm talking to myself. So." Now that he was free to move, he scooped Aph into his arms, balancing her as he gently tucked the egg in his bag. If they were going to enter the Hoenn Desert, then they had to brace themselves for the upcoming sandstorm. Danny made himself comfortable on the border of the desert for a while, but actually walking in there made him nervous. He even had a pair of tacky goggles that he picked up from the Pokemart, figuring that he'd need them if he wanted to protect his eyes from the sand and the intense UV Rays. Even though Danny looked as hard as he could through each shelf, he couldn't find any Pokemon sized goggles for Aph to wear. It was a shame, but until they reached a part in the desert where the raging sand couldn't get them, she had to be tucked back into her Pokeball. Sliding those massive, 90s style goggles over his eyes, he bravely stepped into the desert's stinging sands for the first time. And boy, did that sand hurt. It stung and nipped at exposed skin, showing no mercy as it even blew against the back of his neck. He was awfully thankful for the protective goggles he bought at Fallarbor, but how in the world were people expected to travel and train through a place like this? He couldn't reason it out. If it wasn't so hot out, and if this wasn't a freaking desert, he would've considered wearing clothes that covered his entire body to spare himself the pain of the sand. He even considered becoming the new bubble boy by running around in a giant hamster ball, but alas, as great as his imagination was, funding it was another issue. The initial pain from the sandstorm faded as Danny adjusted himself accordingly--wrapping one of the spare towels around his neck and arms, he could at least spare the upper half of his body from the sandstorm's torment. His legs were still at the storm's mercy, but that just encouraged him to walk even faster. It was funny, because as hot as the desert was, it would've been so much worse if it had the humidity to boot. The dryness in the air was the only good thing he had going on for him as he continued his long and agonizing trek, quietly kicking himself for not taking the Fiery Path instead. Suddenly Danny stopped in his tracks, gears in his brain turning wildly as he reconsidered the problem. The issue here was the weather. It was hot, the wind was nasty, and there was way too much sand being blown around. "I wonder...maybe a Rain Dance can help things out? Even a light sprinkle would be nice." His legs throbbed and pleaded with him the moment the suggestion was made, and he wasn't in the mood to think of the potential consequences. "Yeah, that's it! Use a Rain Dance for me, buddy! Save the day." With Larry's trusty Pokeball grasped in his hand, he didn't even waste time enlarging it and tossing it into the air, pretty desperate for a light and brisk rain shower. The moment Larry came out, the sandstorm tormented him the same way it had been tormenting Danny for the past 30 minutes, and the strength of the winds made it incredibly difficult to fly around. <Ow! The sky is mad! Everything is mad and I don't understand!> Immediately after being blown around by the conflicting winds, Larry bolted towards Danny's shirt, tucking himself under the towel before the sandstorm could hurt him. "Hey! How do you think I feel? I've been walking around like this for hours and hours, and one little Rain Dance could be good for both of us." Danny tried to readjust himself so Larry couldn't cling to him, but each time he tried, Larry stubbornly pecked him in the face. "No, listen. Stop that! I'm not a worm.. Listen, Lair. Listen. Just use Rain Dance, and it'll go away. It's just a little sand, ok? See?" Re-opening the towel wrapped around his neck, the sand continued to bite and harass those that ignorantly forgot to protect themselves from the desert's rage. At least Danny was used to it, especially because he was losing it due to the heat. "Hahaha...isn't it great? It's so happy out here. Laaa...laaa...la..." Singing in a heat-induced daze, he rocked himself back and forth as Larry cried out in alarm, not liking any part of this situation in the slightest. With good timing, the same traveling Pokemon that met Danny outside of Meteor Falls happened to catch Larry's plight. Her soft, feathery ears perked up at the sound of a lethargic, drunken tune through the roar of the weather, and her curiosity got the better of her. Cognizant enough to know not to reveal herself to any untrustworthy human, the light around the dragon's body changed and adapted to its surroundings, effectively shielding her from the naked eye. Following the sound of Danny's melodious plight and Larry's frightened cries, she was able to sneak up behind the wandering pair, watching in confusion as they tried to make it across the Hoenn Desert in the least productive way possible. From what she could understand, the heat had gotten to the human, which was only causing even more panic in the Wingull. Even now, the sting of the sand was nicking at her health, and she had full intentions of escaping the Hoenn Desert before the desert could eat her alive. Knowing that she was on a time limit as she watched Danny's pathetic struggle, she decided to give him a small shock to shake him out of it. Carefully backing up as her arms flattened into her body, she let loose a shrill cry as she flew at incredibly high speeds, kicking up waves of sand as she zoomed straight out of the desert. Danny heard the cry alright, and while he was trying to figure out if the sound was a part of his imagination, suddenly a Surf sized wave of sand toppled over him and Larry, submerging them completely due to the dragon's departure. At least that was enough to snap him out of his daze, suddenly crawling up the depths of the sand with Larry clinging to his head for dear life, both of them gasped and wheezed in the fresh air the moment they could. Well, it was impossible to breathe without getting a little sand stuck in there, but at least they were getting their precious oxygen. "What in the world was that?" Danny finally managed to ask, worming his way out of the sand hole as he shook his clothes free from each itchy grain of sand. <No idea.> Even Larry was stumped, and he wasn't the one suffering from the desert's overwhelming heat. With that mystery hanging over their heads with no visible answers available, the duo had little choice but to trek through the remaining half of the Hoenn Desert. At least this time, Larry got the memo to use Rain Dance, making it awfully easier to travel, and totally pain-free. tag: nah ▪ words: nah ▪ ooc: nah |
