"YES OUR TEETH AND AMBITIONS ARE BARED! BE PREPARED!"
Well, this was nice. Another Gym had finally been finished in Orre and Yumi had a chance to battle in a new area. The place actually didn't look half bad from the outside, and already she was interested in seeing what was inside. "So what'ya think Ko-ken? This be a good place to get you back into the fighting groove?"
Beside Yumi was her ever faithful guardian, a Sawk by the name Ko-ken. Recently he had suffered some major injuries, and his strict refusal of being healed at a pokemon center gave him a far longer healing process than the rest of Yumi's team. Even now he still had some bandages under his gi, just keeping his muscles a little more stable. "Sa." He himself didn't know what this gym would hold, afterall it could be a flying type gym, and he would despise it, but at the same time, it could be a rock type gym, and be a nice way for him to work himself back into his old training regime.
"Well, whatever they have, I'm sure we can take it. Heck some of the other guys may even enjoy themselves a little." With a small smile on her lips Yumi headed on inside. She'd changed a little recently herself, moving out of the need to win, and more into the fun of the battle like she was a while ago. Heading straight to the front desk, she was quick to catch the attention of the person working there. "Hey, I'd like to challenge the gym?"
Shawna tapped her acrylic nails steadily and to the beat of the music blasting in her headphones. This was not how she planned to spend her days, sitting at a desk being some kind of secretary for some random ass gym leader who apparently was a hot shot back in the day. But this was what she had to do, lest she face jail time, and Arceus knows the Orre jails were said to be the gateways to hell. As hot as the desert they resided in and filled with creatures far worse than you would find outside its stone walls, the troubled teen would do everything she could to keep out of there; even if it meant spending community service hours as a receptionist at some gym. Not that the job was terribly hard, in fact there hadn't been a single challenger since she started working there. The only issue she had was how boring it was. Sure, she could surf the web for a few hours, or try to get the much needed summer homework done, but it all got so.. Routine after a while. And it wasn't like the view was much, the white walls and bland furniture were a pain for her to stare at for too long. The only thing she had to look forward to was her lunch break.
Or a challenger. The girl walked into the gym with some ugly blue pokemon, Shawna wasn't very educated on the topic of pokemon, and she walked straight up to her desk, wanting to challenger the gym leader. Shawna stopped tapping her nails against the desk, looked the challenger up and down, then began to type away at the computer, giving the challenger side looks while she filled out the official form. A few minutes would pass as she would fill out the parts that the gym needed, only the challenger's name and trainer ID left. Clicking her tongue, she waited for the printer to print out the form and circled the areas the challenger would need to fill out. "Here, here, and sign here." Shawna said, using the pen to point at the circled areas. Shawna then pointed at a small paragraph with a box and said, "Oh, and check here to show you understand the terms of the gym and that we are not liable for any injuries you or your pokemon may acquire."
After the challenger fills out the required part of the form, Shawna will take it and then jerk a thumb back towards a door labeled, "FIELD ENTRANCE". As the girl would file the form away, she'd say casually, "Go through there for your battle."
"YES OUR TEETH AND AMBITIONS ARE BARED! BE PREPARED!"
Yumi was admittadly a little off-put by the look of the recptionist girl. She immediately gave off the vibe that she didn't really wanna be here. Be it the weird nails, the music she could faintly hear as she walked in, or just the little click of the tongue the girl made as she turned to the computer. The fighter and her trainer gave eachother a quick glance, both clearly getting the same vibe here, before turning their attention to the papers infront of them. Some basic info needed filling in, but at the same time, this was not something she normally needed to do, so she took the pen from the receptionist with some confusion. "Thanks..."
It was just basic info, her ID number, her signature, her name in block letters, nothing special. Still, Ferris and Brook never had her fill out forms like this...not even that weird water gym leader who dissapeared a long while ago. "That should do it." Placing the pen on the paper she withdrew her hands as the receptionist took them back, following her thumb point to the field entrance. "Alright then...thanks. See you when I come out."
Walking onto the next room she and Ko-ken shared another glance. They clearly didn't like that girl, which brought a small chuckle out of the red head. "Well thank god I'm not the only one...now..." Spotting the stand with the objects on them she looked them over curiously, reading the message etched into it.
"All of these give life, but which is the most important?"
Her eyes quickly traced back up to the items, recalling once more how straightforward Ferris' gym felt, groaning softly as she tried to think what was most important...Seeds...water...fire...
"What do you think Ko-ken, which one is most important to you?"
As if he didn't even have to think about it, he pointed quickly towards the matchstick. "Sa." "Yeah...I suppose it ain't too bad a choice..." She drew back, tapping her chin as she debated the options before her. "The seeds could represent life itself....the water could be what we need to survive...which is VERY important...but then there's fire. Fire can symbolize new life, it can even symbolize what we need to survive, warmth and all that stuff..." She gave a pause, and Ko-ken simply looked to her, knowing there was one final point she needed to add to make that train of thought complete. "And of course...flame can also symbolize death..." Ko-ken gave a sagely nod, looking towards the flame pattern door and nodding towards the hole beside it. Yumi picked up the matchstick, taking it over and twiddling it between her fingers, poking it out of the gap between her fingers with her thumb so it fell into the whole, freezing up for a second in the brief silence before hearing the satisfying sound of the unlocking door.
"Booyeah! Onto the next room!~"
(Gonna let you set out the rules for the door, picked fire.)
The man known as Mark, a burly man standing at 6'4 with muscles that look like they could crush a person's head if he flexed, watched the small screen in front of him intently. The color vision screen, Orre always had the most up to date technology, displayed with crystal clear definition how the red head would make her decision. This was the first challenger the Gym Leader would have and Mark, head of security, was anxious to see how it would unfold. The automatic timer that started when the challenger entered the room was ticking away, the girl had spent about five of her ten minutes deciding along with her pokemon. He hoped she would decide quickly, lest he have to go and kick her out. Fortunately for the both of them, she figured the simple puzzle out and chose the flame marked door.
As it was designed, the door opened silently as the correct item was placed into the cubby hole adjacent to it. The challenger stepped through the door quickly, probably curious as to what was held on the other side. A white room similar to the one the challenger had just left was what they would see, except this time a marble pedestal and slab would be in the center with an LED light shining upon it. When the challenger approaches the pedestal, the door behind them will close and lock, while the one in front of them would open, the bright sunlight that is the usual for Orre being visible. Upon the pedestal, the tablet would read, "Challenger, you understand the struggle of survival and that fire is necessary. The light will keep the terrors of the night away while the flames will cook your food and forge your weapons. Your passion and willingness to battle grants you a singles battle, four pokemon only, substitutions are allowed, first to defeat two pokemon is the winner. Good luck."
The door that was open would lead to the battle field, where Sophia waited on the opposite end, a hand on her hip and her blonde hair reflecting the sun's rays and looking as beautiful as ever.
"YES OUR TEETH AND AMBITIONS ARE BARED! BE PREPARED!"
Yumi stepped forward into the next room, glancing about the rather simple second room and blinking as the sound of the lock clicking behind her sounded out, sharing a glance with Ko-ken, letting out a gentle sigh and a shrug. "Guess we're pretty much locked into battling now..." She looked around the corners of the room, trying to see if there was a camera. She knew the league wouldn't let a gym trap people inside permanently, so there was likely someone keeping an eye on her somehow.
"Well we may as well see what test we got next. At least it dosn't seem like we messed up." She stepped closer to the pedastal, squinting a little as the bright light shined off the stand before her, glancing up at the hole in the roof letting in all the light. This place wasn't as bad as Brook's gym at lest...that guy pretty much set his gym up to be a prick to any trainer who messed up a completely random guess on their first run. Nevertheless, she was here now, and she needed to keep her mind on the goal, resting a hand either side of the stand, reading over the inscription. "Not exactly what I was going for...but hey, at least I didn't do too bad." Lifting her head, the door opened before her, and the red head was quick to move on, keeping her eyes partially shut so she could adjust to the sudden bright light of the orre sun as she entered the arena.
"So...~" Yumi smiled, a hand still over her eyes as she adjusted to the light again after being inside for a bit, Ko-ken following quickly behind her, though while Yumi was focused on the gym leader accross from her, Ko-ken's focus was on the wall behind them. "I guess your the one I'll be going up against huh? Didn't expect to get so lucky to find such a cutie as the gym lea-" Her train of thought, and thus her complimenting flirt was interupted as Ko-ken tugged on her belt, pointing at the wall behind them, and the 3 doors that likely led from the preceeding rooms.
"..." Yumi sighed, turning back to the Gym leader. "Seriously? I coulda picked any one of those?"
Sophia, of course, had been monitoring the entire process. This was her first challenger and she wanted to see how they would proceed through the whole thing and how they would respond to the puzzle. Everything went well it seemed, the girl chose fire, not a huge surprise there, and she entered the field with a pokemon following behind her. A Sawk, one of those foreign fighting types. Possibly something to be a pain in her ass, but no matter, the Normal type Gym Leader was ready for whatever was coming her way. Her outfit might showed it as well. Jeans, a loose white blouse, and some rockin' boots with some sunglasses to block out the intense sun light pouring onto the field. Sophia looked hot, but she wasn't going to let that interfere.
Or at least she had hoping it wouldn't have. The first thing out of the challenger's mouth was flirtatious words, however, the soon to be failed attempt at flirting failed when the challenger's pokemon got her attention towards the other doors. After the question from the challenger, Sophia crossed her arms over chest and held back an eye roll, simply stating, "Yes."
Now that her question was answered, Sophia could begin the official introduction of herself and of the battle. "I am Sophia Lliwayne, the Gym Leader of this Gym. The rules have been stated for you in your previous room, however, I will repeat them for clarification. A one versus one battle, up to four pokemon allowed, substitutions allowed, and the first to knock out two pokemon wins." The Gym Leader said, producing a single pokeball and tossing it out onto the field, an Ambipom coming forth from it. Her arms still crossed, Sophia added, "Good luck, and I hope the flames that fuel your passion can assist you in this battle."
"YES OUR TEETH AND AMBITIONS ARE BARED! BE PREPARED!"
Yumi couldn't help but feel that the whole question thing was a waste of time if she'd end up battling the leader anyway, but at the same time she guessed if it was just to get out here, anyone could take the test any number of times. From the looks of things, her choice had decided the rules of her battle, and she was more than happy with the cards she'd been dealt. Single battles were always what she was good at afterall!~
"I'm fine with those rules. Lets see what you got." It seemed that an ambipom was the first to come out, which immediately made Yumi feel somewhat more confident in her chances here. If this place was a normal type gym she had plenty of pokemon on her belt, and Ko-ken wouldn't be too shabby here himself. "Alright, in that case, I'll be choosing my little friend Carlak here." With a smile she unlatched a single pokeball from her belt, looking at the Gengar within, or at least what she could. The pokemon inside refused to stay still, creating the illusion that the inside of the pokeball was a dark, black void. "Behave yourself okay?" With the last word of warning, to which she only recieved a red, glaring eye, Yumi threw her pokeball up into the air, the red flash unleashing her pokemon.
What emerged onto the field was chaos incarnate. The ghost type pokemon took on a gas like form as it spun around in a ball, finally reforming into the Gengar form, it;s eyes and mouth forming last, revealing a manic look to the pokemon that was beyond that of the average Gengar. Rings around his pupils showed a manic mind, while the fang in it's grin showed someone who was not about to take prisoners. Seeing his opponent, he was a little upset he would be unable to use his usual shadowball, but that issue could easiy be fixed.
Raising a finger, yumi motioned for the gym leader to wait a moment before starting the match, slipping her bag off her shoulders and pulling out a rather cheap looking umbrella, opening it up despite the sun. "Okay. Go." Instantly, Carlak rose his hands to the air, curling his fingers as the rings in his eyes swirled rapidly, as if he was using hypnosis. Instead, the few clouds in the bright sky above began to grow thick and dark, before soon rain began to pour down on the once sunny arena, leaving a happy Gengar cackling away, not even waiting for his opponent to respond before shooting his hands down towards the ambipon his faced, a crackle coming from the clouds above.
Ko-ken and Yumi watched, eager to see how the gym leader would handle their best foot forward.
HP 100% rain 1/5 Used rain dance Used thunder (no miss)
Used Protect to block Thunder Used Substitute followed by Baton Pass
It was no surprise for the Normal type Gym Leader for her opponent to release a pokemon who would have an advantage over her. She knew her team and she knew how to optimize their abilities and skills. Sophia's nose twitched and she brought a hand above her head as the ghost type pokemon caused it to rain. Her hair was now a wet mess and was sticking to her face, and being a pain in general. Sometimes the "beauty of Rutile" wished her hair was short, maybe even nonexistent. She was sure she could live with a shaved head.
The thoughts of her hair, even though it was annoying, left her head as began to shout orders. "Protect!" Sophia called to her pokemon, Prince. A shield of glowing blue energy surrounded the monkey pokemon and blocked the incoming blast of electricity that came from the rain clouds above. The Gym Leader recognized the set up the red headed girl was going for and had a few ways to counter it, or at least planned to do so.
Quickly analyzing the situation, Sophia shouted, loud so her pokemon could hear her over the heavy rainfall, "Flash n' pass!" Prince knew exactly what to do. Using one of the hands on his tail, he does a back flip, throwing some dirt in the air while he is airborne and then using the other hand to open one of his trainer's pokeballs. In what seemed like a few seconds, the Ambipom had disappeared and in its place was a doll. A smirk appeared on Sophia's face as she watched the opponent, waiting to see what they would do.

"YES OUR TEETH AND AMBITIONS ARE BARED! BE PREPARED!"
Protect huh? Well it was to be expected. Being a normal type user was probably hard to make work well, especially when a team was built against you. That one turn of protect was sure to give Sophia a good look at all of her opponents...then something actually clicked in Yumi's head. She didn't remember introducing herself. In the midst of the battle, just as the thunder strike had faded and the ambipom was switching the substitute, she called out from beneath her umbrella and the sound of the rain.
"Hey er...sorry but...My name's Yumi! Its a pleasure to meetcha!~" She felt like a bit of an idiot because of that, but it wasn't uncommon for her to get wrapped up in the battle...that and the few orre gyms she'd challenged had already known her. Or, well, at least Ferris did. Heck they'd battled twice already, and Yumi still didn't have a badge despite winning once.
The substitute was a clever move, and it left Yumi guessing. but the substitute could probably be knocked away easily...the switch was still made however, so whatever she was left with was probably well set up to deal with her thunder attacks. "Carlak. Switch it up." The ghost groaned and nodded, he hated taking orders but more often than not Yumi was good at helping him pick the best set up. Still, one more thunder wouldn't hurt. Using speed to close the distance, he rushed towards the doll before him, snapping his fingers for a thunder at the last moment, hoping to keep whatever was hiding the doll in a state of shock, and hopefully remove the doll itself.
Finally, if he could get close enough, he'd unleash a sludge bomb, spewing forth the vile slime from his grotesque maw.
HP 100% rain 2/5 Thunder + rush in close Sludge bomb
Substitute used to take Thunder Used Hail! (1/5) Changed to Ice Form! Used Blizzard to counter Sludge Bomb! Used Blizzard (STAB) (can't miss in hail)
The rain continued to pour down on Sophia and her opponent, who had apparently brought an umbrella for the occasion. Pulling her hair back and out of her her face, the Gym Leader listened to the challenger finally introduce herself as Yumi. Not that Sophia didn't know that already. As soon as the girl had filled out the form, it had been sent to Sophia and she had read over it while the challenger had a go at the puzzle. She gave Yumi a simple nod in response to her late introduction. Her attention was focused on the battle at hand.
Per its trainer's orders, the Ghost type pokemon rushed forward towards the doll and called down a blast of electricity. In a poof of smoke, the doll faded from existence and a small ball of fur was left in its place. "Freeze!" Sophia called out to her Castform, Elton. The weather pokemon's eyes began to glow as the rain falling down on them soon hardened into hail, and the temperature fell drastically. As the weather changed, so did Elton; His body began to glow and with a flash of light he looked different. No longer white and gray, his body now looked like a snow cone with a wisp at the top.
The newly changed Ice pokemon took no time in handling the situation. As the blast of poisonous goop was launched at him, the Castform froze it with a blast of ice and then focused all of the energy of the hail storm onto the opposing pokemon. This move was near impossible to dodge in a blizzard such as this and Sophia knew this well. Rubbing her arms to warm herself up, the Gym Leader waited for the challenger's response.

"YES OUR TEETH AND AMBITIONS ARE BARED! BE PREPARED!"
Castform? Huh, well that wasn't expected. Yumi had been hoping her opponent would be going in for something her sludge bomb choice would work against, but as the hail began to fall she knew exactly what was coming. She'd had Brook use it on her one too many times. "Carlak! Return!" The ghost turned, growling, clearly not wanting to go away, but as he too heard the call for a blizzard, he nodded, eager to go back in his pokeball at that call. With two flashes of red the switch was made and a Blaziken now stood to take the Blizzard. Thanks to Gengar's advance, the new choice was now only a few feat away from the Castform, with a type advantage at her side.
"Quickly! Before they call in some new weather! Quick kick!" Yumi shouted out the very basic name she gave to the quick attack blaze kick combo of her Blaziken. Even before the Blizzard had truly ended Tequill was charging forward towards the Castform, bringing up her leg and striking with a blaze kick, hoping to use her speed advantage, and the priority of quick attack to land a blow fast and hard.
HP 93.75 Switched to Blaziken Used quick attack + Blaze kick during blizzard
Hail (2/5) (please remember Hail does 8% damage each turn) Used Blizzard to dodge Blaze Kick! Used Tailwind! (1/4) Used Hydro Pump!
Sophia was a little surprised to see the challenger, Yumi, recall her Gengar. The ice type attack probably would not have knocked the opposing pokemon out, but if she wanted to switch, so be it. Although the pokemon that was called out looked annoying. A Blaziken, one of the starter pokemon Hoenn Professor's give out to new trainers. With a huge type advantage over her now ice type Castform. However, Castform wasn't a one trick pokemon and had plenty of elemental moves in its arsenal to handle this fire chicken.
And the thing was quick. Launching itself towards Elton with incredible speed, the small weather pokemon barely had time to react. He quickly released a stream of water from his mouth, propelling himself backwards and a good distance away from the fiery bird pokemon. Then, with a chance to breath, he summoned a wind. The wind enveloped the small ice type pokemon and he felt like could run with the winds. His speed now boosted dramatically, he released another blast of water, this time aimed at the pokemon with intentions to damage it.

"YES OUR TEETH AND AMBITIONS ARE BARED! BE PREPARED!"
"Heh, you just keep surprising me with those moves of yours Sophia.~" Yumi grinned a little even as the Castform managed to blast itself out of the range of her quick. Yumi had been told time and time again her close range attacks were pretty much the bane of her, but at the same time, she knew that if just one of those hit, she'd pretty much annihilate her opponent.
"Alright Tequil. Keep your distance!" With a nod, the Blaziken reacted quickly. Despite the newfound speed of the castform thanks to tailwind, Blaziken still had speed behind her, especially because her escape would be enhanced by quick attack, darting rapidly back towards her end of the arena, her talons scraping accross the arena floor as she struggled to come to a dead stop. Yumi knew Tequill only had one or two moves that were effective at this range, but at the same time, she'd seen two of the castforms key moves. Odds were it had a fire type move for sunny weather. The Hydro pump was such a focused jet that, so long as she kept her distance, it could be dodged with ease, and finally, by using a select move, she could easily prevent any damage from Hail. The main issue that remained reminded her of Elinda, and that was the hail. It put a time on the match, so she had to make sure that when she was ready to end this, she could end this.
"Lets not waist any time..."
Lifting her arm up to the side of her head, Yumi pressed down on the gem in her wristband, a bright shine shooting out that also seemed to somehow envelop the blaziken. Burning flames covered her body, shooting up like a pillar, before fading to reveal the Mega blaziken within.
"Bulk up!" Tequill followed the command quickly, preparing for the coming turns.
HP 69% ATK + 1 DEF + 1 SPD + 1 Dodged with quick attack Mega evolved Bulk up
Hail! (3/5) (-6.25%) Tailwind! (2/4) (x2 SPD) Switched in! Used Agility! (+2 SPD) Used Aerial Ace! (can't miss)(remember to calculate technician)
Her fire chicken was fast, she would give it that, and seemingly fast enough to out speed her floating ball of weather reincarnated. The blast of high pressure water missed and Yumi called out to Sophia, whether it was flirty or taunting, she couldn't tell nor cared. Either way it was annoying. As she was about to call out another attack, the challenger did something... Weird. Pulling her arm up to the side of her head, the red headed challenger pressed down on her wristband, which had some kind of stone embedded in it, and that was when shit hit the ceiling. A bright light was emitted from it that enveloped the Blazkien, causing flames to surround it and with an expulsion of the flames it was left... Different. Very, very, different. "WHAT THE HELL?!" Sophia exclaimed, unable to hide the shock and confusion. The pokemon had just evolved, or something, again. How was that possible. It shouldn't be possible. This was going to require some questions, but that would have to be for after the battle.
Quickly recalling the weather pokemon, Sophia tossed out a different pokeball, revealing the purple fiend, Prince the Ambipom. The monkey pokemon looked around the field, spotted the freaky Blaziken, and then gave it's trainer an odd look; One of confusion. Sighing, she held up her hand as if to say, "I don't know." and then quickly made a spinning motion with her finger followed by a wave of her hand. With a swift nod, the Ambipom began to move quickly, becoming a blur. As the agility increased his speed, the tailwind kicked in, increasing it as well. Then, a mere purple blur at this point, the monkey pokemon sent itself hurling at the oddly changed Blaziken, the hands on its tail glowing and ready to attack.

"YES OUR TEETH AND AMBITIONS ARE BARED! BE PREPARED!"
Yumi was filled with nothing but confidence for the briefest of moments as she believed her mega blaziken would throw some shock into her opponents as it had so many trainers before. While that did seem to be the case, it also seemed to kick the gym leaders battling up a notch, and soon she had a hyperspeed ambipom darting towards her with agility.
Damn, I may have called in the switch too early. At least she's only got two more turns on the tailwind...
"Alright, no backing down! It's clearly coming in for a hit, copy it!" Tequill nodded quickly. The hail still stinging her between her feathers, she rushed forth with immense speed, matching that of the Ambipom as she used mirror move to copy its attack. With both pokemon equally quick for the briefest of moments, their attacks would likely collide, cancelling one another out and preventing either from taking immense damage,
"Now, before she can retreat! Brick break!"
"BLA!" With one arm striking against the Ambipom's aerial ace, the other hooked around with the force of brick break, attempting to stike the Ambipom it had locked aerial ace's with. Whether the move made contact or not, she would follow up with a bulk up, preparing for anything that came after.
