  After a while of polishing and inspecting the Mega Stone, Zernebog put it in the metal briefcase along with his other newest acquisitions. It was definitely a new one, alright. Now he had more than enough to show that cool old guy in Luminose. Won’t he be surprised to see so many Mega Stones with him?
What a haul indeed~! Now… it was time to give Hyperion the first of his just rewards.
”Go in the tent and chill with the other two, Hyperion. I’ll wait up for Artemis here by myself.” Zernebog smirked when he saw the black dragon simply nod and go in the tent without a fuss.
Unlike the other two, the black dragon seemed to have him pegged. He should, considering that Rion was his first-ever pokemon and his best bro for life. It would be weird if he had a different best friend, though Theus admittedly came close to the title as well.
He shook his head from those thoughts. While he waited, it was time to get back to work. Might as well not waste time and use the time he had effectively after all.

Zernebog started whistling to himself again as he took off his trusty bandana and wrung the sweat off of it. Squish! There was a lot of sweat that had accumulated on his brow, causing him to chuckle. He wasn’t ashamed to admit that he sweated like a racehorse after a particularly long race when he was in this kind of heat. To him, it simply reinforced the fact that he was a born and raised Romanov, no matter what his father or his appearance might say otherwise.
However, it didn’t stop him from feeling the heat start to get to him. In fact, it was why he was starting to contemplate striking out on to a brief tour of Kalos before leaving for the tournament that was on in a little while. He was never one to stay in any one place for long anyway, so this suited him better.
”Now if only I could finish taking notes on all of these relics and artifacts that we found in this dig site.” Zernebog muttered to himself as he stared at the dauntingly large pile with a new addition on his hands.
He massaged his uncovered forehead. ”This is going to be very painful for me –or at least my hand- isn’t it?”
The resounding chorus of growls from the direction of tent made him laugh.

CRACK!
Zernebog cringed when he saw the cracked visage of the stone he was trying to pry out. Normally he wouldn’t care about rock being damaged since he was trying to dig his way further down, but this particular rock had a feather imprint on it. If he didn’t know any better, he would say that it looked like some sort of plume. He wasn’t sure, but it might’ve been a fossil that he wrecked.
Just to be sure, he buried his shovel in the dirt next to him and then knelt down. The blood drained from his face when he traced the contours of a feather. Not just any feather, but one he would have recognized from an Archen. He would know because he used to own one.
Was this the Plume Fossil that he’d heard about? Zernebog’s stomach dropped. It was likely that it was indeed a Plume Fossil, which meant that he had inadvertently destroyed an important piece of natural history with his carelessness.
Suddenly, he was thankful that he was independent. The hell his grandparents would raise if they ever find out made shivers run up and down his spine.
”Maybe I should bury the evidence….” Zernebog muttered to himself as he stood up from his crouch and took the shovel out of the dirt. ”Should be safe.”

”Okay, I’m safe.”
Zernebog looked at the deep pit he had just covered up with a lot of dirt. There was a pensive look on his face as he tapped the shaft of his shovel.
”Well… 90% sure anyway. Certain people and pokemon upstairs like to screw with me.” Zernebog grumbled as he scratched his chin with his free hand.
Zernebog looked at the pit for a few more moments before bringing up the thing he had dug up while digging a pit to hide the evidence of his shameful sin. ”Now what to do with you…?” He stared at the white rock with the yellow center with a keen eye.
”I wonder if this means anything or is the start of an omen….” He muttered to himself as he started tossing the stone up and down. ”But it’s not like the Shiny Stone is a hint of another massive vein of evolution stones, right?”
Zernebog shrugged to himself. There was only one way to find out, but he had promised himself that he would be taking a break from this digging madness real soon. He was starting to get antsy from the heat. And tired. Don’t forget tired.

Zernebog looked up at the sky, his eyes wide with shock. ”Oh, Artemis? Back already? I thought you were going to patrol for another hour?”
Artemis gave him a sharp-toothed grin as she flew down to just above his level. She then lifted up a claw, which held a very familiar-looking stone. One that he had just added to his collection a little while ago.
”Another one of those things?” Zernebog resisted the urge to scratch the back of his head in wonder. ”I swear, these rocks are popping up like those mushrooms you see ‘round Hoenn.”
Despite his words, he wasn’t about to question his good fortune more than he already had. As a wise man once said, ”Never look a gift Rapidash in the mouth, because it might burn your face off. With interest” Truly a genius saying.
Zernebog took the stone from Artemis’ claws. ”I’ll take this to place in the suitcase. Now go to the tent with the rest of your friends, Artemis. I have some last minute work to do.”
Make that a lot of last-minute work. Work that he couldn’t put off if he wanted to get a short break before the tournament. Just a little more time….
