  Golden eyes looked at Atlas with a sharp, scrutinizing gaze that almost had the exhausted Excadrill squirming. Almost being the key word here.
The gaze stayed for a few moments before they lightened up with warmth. ”Thank you Atlas. I’ll put this in with the rest.”
He then waved off the Excadrill. ”Now go into the tent and rest. You did a lot of digging today and it’s almost nighttime anyway.”
Atlas looked at his trainer incredulously as if he just grew three heads and became an albino Hydreigon. Zernebog just smirked.
”If you don’t want to rest yet, that’s more than fine. Go back to-” He blinked as he was left with a small dust cloud all of a sudden.
His smirk got wider. ”Works like a charm every time. You’d think he’d get wise to the threats.”
Well, more like promises, really, because he honestly intended to go through with it if Atlas wasn’t tired yet. After all, this was as much a training exercise in endurance and focus as it was a dig to find out more about Mega Stones and Kalos herself. He did so love multitasking; he was more than happy that his mom and grandma taught him how to do it effectively or else he might’ve gone a bit crazy.

Yes. Zernebog was now so bored while digging on autopilot that he was actually thinking of composing a song. That was something he would normally never think of doing on most days since it seemed like such a pointless pastime.
That was how bored he was. Moreover, that was how sick of routine he was.
He supposed that part of the blame could be laid on his own shoulders since he had made himself unaccustomed to most routines. In fact, he had come to hate having any sort of set major routine for the day. And this dig had just become just a routine for him ever since his Blastoise had finished his training to learn Dig, honestly.
Just thinking about being set in a routine made him want to shudder. But he had to stay strong. Just two more days before he could go to Kanto and enter the tournament in the Indigo League. He had chased his father for years before he’d found him; this should be a piece of cake in comparison.
Well. He hoped it was anyway.
”I should just distract myself by taking notes on this crown and documenting it along with the rest of the dug-up artifacts.” He scratched his head and sighed as he stared at the relic crown in his hands.
Well, time to get back to work.

”So I’m starting to get more artifacts.”
Zernebog paused and held up the old band. ”I don’t know whether to be happy that I’m getting more of what I came here for or irritated that I’m not finding the new things that I’m looking for.”
Even as those thoughts raced across his mind, another part of said mind was taking inventory of his current find. Idly, he noted that it looked a little over 3,000 years old and looked like it was for a child or a woman due to the size and design of this particular band. Unless of course it was actually for a midget or thin guy or perhaps even a pokemon, which he couldn’t discount. There were still too many factors for him to take into account before he could reach a satisfactory conclusion.
”Can’t look a gift Ponyta in the mouth, I suppose.” He finally spoke after a few moments of memorizing this particular design to heart. ”If for some reason mom doesn’t like the new cash flow I got, I can always use all of this nice new data to appease her and let me keep travelling without nagging constantly like the step-monster.”
The step-monster. Now there was an unpleasant thought he would rather not remember even if she helped him before.
And since he didn’t want to remember, he huffed and focused at the current task at hand instead in the faint hopes that this would distract him from drifting off with his train of thought.

The sound of a low rumble made Zernebog raise his head up from the papers he was reading and look to the side. He knew that particular tone anywhere.
”Achilles?” Zernebog blinked as he saw dirt-covered purple dragon lumber over to him with something spherical in his claws. At least he’d learned not to put them in his jaws; the one time he had to use the Heimlich maneuver on him after he swallowed a relic a few months ago must’ve taught him one heck of a lesson.
Achilles’ voice rumbled, getting his attention again even as he pressed the spherical object into his hands.
”Huh? What’s….” Zernebog was going to ask him what it was, only to trail off when he saw the familiar glimmer of the cat’s eye on the orb. He had seen enough to know what it was by sight now. ”…A Mega Stone? Another one already?”
Zernebog grinned. ”This place is definitely pay dirt, that’s for sure!”
Achilles could only snort at that.
