After finally dealing with his problem back in Unova, Thomas figured that it was time to ultimately pack things in, possibly for good. And while the business was still up, it would take a backseat to his journey through the Kalos Region, and would mostly be limited to Pokemon found in Kalos. It would be his last attempt at having a proper journey with his Pokemon before he would pass the point of no return.
In any case, the trainer found himself in Aquacorde Town, a small place with a bridge and no Pokemon Center in sight. Dressed in a red plaid shirt, blue jeans, a pair of brown boots, and a black baseball cap, the trainer walked through the town. There wasn't much for him to do here, so after sitting down to collect himself, he would head towards the next town, which, according to his map, was Sanlatune City.
Unfortunately, as the trainer started to pass through the area, a Machop grabbed the trainer, quickly hoisting him over his head. Thomas exclaimed in shock as he was picked up, and quickly thrown towards the bride, landing in the town's fountain, with his bag landing on top of him.
As the trainer started to stumble out of the fountain, only to clumsily fall back on his butt, three young men gathered around the fountain, starting to laugh at the trainer who was thrown into the fountain.
"Go... fuck yourselves!", muttered Thomas as he attempted to get up, only to fall back down again, causing the boys to laugh even harder, ignoring the insult by their current object of ridicule.

in the morning light, let my roots take flight
◥
Evangeline breathed in the characteristic smell of river water and... bricks. Well, then. Not the best town to tour, perhaps, but definitely not a bad place to be, either. She could already distinguish a few outdoor chairs and tables in the distance, no doubt soon to be occupied by youths eager to start new adventure. Her heavily eyelined lavender eyes softened at the thought, remembering that time, all those two, three years ago, when she had decided to do the same. Time really did go by so quickly.
"I wonder if there are any boutiques nearby," she mused out loud, as her newest acquisition, an Elgyem she had named Paris, poked his head out from behind her, curious as to all the commotion going on in the plaza. The girl smiled at him, before resuming her peaceful stroll around Aquacorde.
It was not too far away from Evangeline's current position, in fact, just past the bridge that rose above flowing water and a garden of flowers, that a group of young boys laughed loudly and played with their Pokémon. The lavender-haired coordinator enjoyed the animated atmosphere of the plaza, reminiscent of her young days in Dendemille, and even went as far as to tell her new friend of past experiences there. "You know, Paris, I think you'd like Dendemille. It's a lovely place to live in; rural, friendly, and so very peaceful. Not as fun as the city, mind you, but a lovely place nonetheless. I should take you there one day, to meet the rest of the family."
No sooner had she finished her little monologue, than the Machop she saw mere minutes ago grabbed hold of another boy, and flaunted him upwards. Evangeline saw the fall before she heard the loud splash, but she was already crossing the small plaza by the time the group of rogues resumed their unconfined laughter. "Hey, you brats!" she protested, scowling, before she proceeded to give all three of them a sermon, long and bossy enough to discourage such an act from happening again.
Halfway through her lecture, she stopped to look back at the poor boy that had fallen victim to their prank. Her expression lightened at the sight, softened, before she hopped on the edges of the fountain to look directly at him. "Can you get up, darling? We could ask Paris over here to help you, otherwise."

As Thomas collected himself, he saw a lavender-haired woman in black approach the boys from one side, and the Machop from the other. Before they noticed the young woman, one of the boys high-fived the Machop, indicating that it did indeed belong to them. Thankfully, before Thomas could sick his own Pokemon onto the group, the woman started to lecture them. As fun as it was to watch, Thomas didn't think it would have a long term effect on these idiots.
By the time she turned her attention to him, Thomas had already climbed out of the fountain. The boy looked extremely mad, two Pokeballs in his hand, ready to be tossed. The boys turned their attention, now clearly nervous about the "random tourist" they decided to mess with today.
"You moronic sacks of Growlithe shit should really watch who you choose... TO FUCK AROUND WITH!", Thomas called out to the group as he released two Pokemon from their balls.
From the left hand, he unleashed Gaius the Hydreigon from his Pokeball, who let out a roar. And while they had type advantage, the boys obviously had nothing nearly strong enough to take on such a Pokemon. And from the right hand, Thomas released Ripper the Scyther, an extremely bloodthirsty looking Scyther from his Pokeball. Needless to say, both the group of boys, and onlookers, were frozen in fear.
"Ripper, teach these shitbags a lesson! Aerial Ace on the Machop!", shouted Thomas.
Immediately, the Scyther made a fast dash over to the Machop, and made a sword-like slash at the Fighting-type. The attack, thanks to Technician, and his natural affinity for Flying-type moves, was enough to take out the Machop instantly. And the attack would most likely have killed it, had Ripper not been using his wing instead of his scythe.
The boys looked on in horror as the massive mantis took out their only Pokemon. And upon the Hydreigon releasing a beastly roar into the sky, the boys started to flee for dear life, running away from the area as fast as their legs could carry them, right after retrieving their Machop.
Unfortunately, this had the added effect of causing a panic, not that Thomas cared. He was acting in self defense, and his attackers got off with only their Pokemon being knocked out cold, and being sent on a jog, as Thomas would like to phrase it. Any other day, Thomas would've bashed their skulls into the fountain too.
After recalling his two Pokemon, he looked at Eva.
"Does that answer your question?", inquired Thomas, who seemed to have calmed down a bit, a sadistic grin plastered on his face after all that.

sink into the soil, watch the water boil
◥
Turning around to check up on the boy had been a mistake, Evangeline would find. Not only had he been able to get off the fountain's statue without her help, which was completely fine, but he was reaching for two of his pokéballs, basically asking for a fight. The scene he caused then was an incident she would rather not try to describe. Merely thinking about it made her sick. Evangeline crossed her arms, scowling, and watched him recall his Pokémon as if beating up a Machop was everyday routine for him, as if it was in any way a justified act, and grinning as if he had actually enjoyed it.
What he said afterwards, however? Oh, those words would be the drops that caused the cup to overflow.
"Does that answer your question?"
All she could manage for the first few seconds after his comment was a hanging jaw. "Answer my question?" she asked, outraged. "Answer my question?" she repeated, louder this time, making sure the brunette could feel just how indignant she was at both his words and his actions. Cocky little shit. "Are you out of your mind? Everything your actions have showed me is how immature you are. Do you realise that? You didn't even know if the Machop launched you up on purpose! Par pitié, even if that were the case, you didn't have to act so aggressively towards a bunch of kids. Is this how you were taught to handle violence? With more violence?"
Evangeline's temper was growing hotter and hotter by the second. Each of her sentences was louder than the one before, and all she could feel was the hot raging anger inside. Her next words, however, despite being charged with as much anger and accusation as her prior sentences, came out soft. Deceptively mellow, and so very sad. "Do you feel proud of yourself?"

Oddly enough, she seemed appalled at what was practically self defense. Granted, his response was very excessive, but that was something he wasn't too bothered with. However, little rant she ended up giving him caused him to roll his eyes. He didn't care that she saw this. It was the same shit he had always gone through. His tormentors usually got a slap on the wrists, but when he started to retaliate, he typically got the heat, which is what caused him to become the spineless shell he was for several years.
"Yeah, I do...", Thomas answered the girl bluntly. "Did you not see the Machop high-five its master or something? Because clearly, it intended to do that, and it was being praised for its action! And the fact that they recalled it to a Pokeball confirms that it belonged to them. And yes, that was to teach those shitheads a lesson. This ain't the first time I've met people like them. I've been tormented by people like that for years! And that little speech you gave them? It ain't gonna help. I've seen that too. They act like you've reached out to them, they act like they feel bad for their shit, until you turn your back to them. Then they just resume their behavior.", Thomas continued rather coldly.
"And what do you mean 'kids'!? They were clearly around my age! Hell, they were all taller than me!", Thomas told her, being annoyed at what he thought was just her trying to add a lie to spice up the guilt.
"So while my actions were excessive, it's the most reliable way to reach out to people like them: a reality check. I've tried to be peaceful in dealing with adversary, and all it's done was get me bitten in the ass.", he said to her, the last part a mix of sorrow and venom.

relax, keep calm, take a deep breath, smile
◥
The boy's response reignited Evangeline's flare. She was mad. She was so mad at him acting so nonchalantly after getting that poor Machop knocked out, so mad that his view of the world could even be that cold, so mad that what he had seen of it had been so cold, so angry, so violent. And, mad as she was, she was not really thinking straight. "And you think beating them up will teach them a lesson? Of course! Why didn't I think of it before? Go punch everybody that displeases you in the face, why won't you? See how that works out, see how the chain of anger and hurt just spreads and continues hurting people! God fucking dammit, dude."
Evangeline exhaled a deep, hot breath she didn't realise she was holding in until then. Paris, having successfully dodged his trainer's arms whenever she raised them up in her fury, decided it was time to act. He let out a short, high-pitched cry, a signal beep to get Evangeline's attention, while softly squeezing at certain spots of her brain with his telekinetic powers. A brain massage of sorts, he would argue, if he had anyone to argue with at the moment. "Thank you, darling," she whispered, softly enough for only her Elgyem to hear. She was feeling a lot more calm now, though her displeasure with this boy didn't quite subside.
"Look," she said, trying her best not to turn this argument into a full-out fight with a boy she only now realised she didn't even know. "I'm sorry you had to go through experiences as awful as you must have for your view of the world to be so pessimistic, but what you did just now was unnecessary. Not everybody's as much of a jerk as you make them out to be." The lavender-haired young woman would have left things at that, but for some reason or another she was feeling an ounce of indignation still, and so she decided she could afford to add a sentence or two more.
"We all have the potential to change, provided we are encouraged to act responsibly, maturely, instead of leaving others' Pokémon lying unconscious on the floor the first chance we get." Another deep sigh, as a pair of gloved hands reached for her small, levitating alien. She caressed his head, before returning her attention to the brunette. "I'm sorry for lashing out against you. That was not exactly mature of me, either." At long last, Evangeline offered him a friendly smile, not willing to take part in the vicious cycle of anger she so disliked. Unless, that is, she was tempted to continue...?

Thomas looked at the girl. Although, he knew that some people never learned, that attacking them might make them come after him with more aggression later, he had to make a stand. In his experience, trying to be nice, trying to beg, none of that worked. As far as he could tell, their kind relished in tormenting the defenseless. However, he had no remorse about making them suffer. For all he cared, they deserved to suffer for all the suffering they brought onto the world.
"Right, because being assaulteddispleases me.", Thomas remarked to her sarcastically.
When she continued after her Elygem did something, he rolled his eyes at her. "Because they clearly had nothing but noble intentions for having their Machop chuck me halfway across town into some fountain, after which they proceeded to mock my ass for walking into their sights.", Thomas sarcastically commented again.
"Right, because their was no way they would have their Machop try to push me back into the fountain, or worse.", Thomas remarked again. It was clear that her whole bleeding heart routine was pissing him off, to the point where he was nothing but bitterness and bile.
But before he could argue any further, a police officer rushed into the area. Thomas sighed, assuming he was in some shit for scaring the people. However, what would happen next would surprise him.
"Are you okay, sir!? I got a report that they attacked someone matching your description!", the officer urgently asked the Hoenn-native.
"Wait, what do you mean 'they'? Those boys have a track record or something?", asked Thomas.
"Those boys have been attacking people across Kalos, humiliating random victims and posting the videos online.... How did you manage to shake them off?", explained the officer. The ending was rather confused, considering that even if the victim is strong, they typically didn't leave their victims with time to retaliate.
"Well, she started to lecture them, as if they were going to see the motherfucking light if she did. It was enough of a distraction to let me hop out, and attack them. I assumed they would attack me again, whether it was after she left, or later on. I knocked out their Machop with my Pokemon, so if you want to catch the bastards, they'd probably be in a Pokemon Center. Though I admit, I probably caused a panic...", Thomas explained.
"... The closest is in Sanlatune City. Thank you, and don't worry about it, it doesn't look like you caused any property damage or anything. I'll alert the Sanlatune authorities to be on the lookout for them. Thank you for your time.", the officer told him before running off.

they never seem to catch my eye
Evangeline had to fight the urge to roll her eyes right back at him. The boy wasn't listening to her, and she wanted him to stop. To stop that. Stop being so cynical and pessimistic. Stop everything. She wanted him to stop, look around, realise what he was saying. Her anger was starting to mix with dribs and drabs of desperation. She felt an angry, desperate need to lift his spirits, to make him realise she wasn't trying to attack him, but he was making this so hard. No, such lowly excuses did not fit the lavender-haired girl at all. Calm down, Evangeline. Take a deep breath. Another.
Ahh.
Yes, that was much better. The decision to bring Paris along, she would now realise, was the best one she had carried out in the entire day. She would really need the Elgyem to help her calm down. Evangeline felt somewhat guilty, quite honestly. It was precisely people like this boy that she wanted to cheer up by becoming an entertainer. A coordinator. How would she ever be able to stand on that grandiose stage if she couldn't manage this small incident? What a joke she would be then.
That's right! That was why she had chosen to take the path of an entertainer. Of course she wasn't going to let this boy's unfortunately learnt cynism get to her; she had to fight it and, if possible, beat it. It was only once she had recollected her thoughts that something both were probably expecting, though not quite awaiting, came to pass. A police officer rushed to them—to the brunette boy, specifically. They exchanged a few words, after which the police officer left in a hurry.
"Feeling better now?" she asked, arching one single eyebrow, as if wondering what the two had talked about. Evangeline knew, of course; she wasn't that far from the conversation to be prevented from listening in. She just wanted to hear the boy explain it in his own words, and perhaps that would give place to a less stressful, calmer exchange.

Thomas was barely able to stop himself from giving Eva a smug grin in response to his dealings with the police officer. Aside from having dealt with the response from authorities, it also confirmed what he had thought those boys were up to, or at least one of their motives. Granted, he thought they were going to try to run off with his stuff, rather than just wanting to beat him down on camera, but still.
Well, hopefully that was a learning experience for this bleeding heart of a woman..., thought Thomas.
"Yeah. And now that the authorities have spoken to me, I have no more reason to stay here. I'm sure you'll be glad to have me out of your hair. And frankly, I was just passing through to Sanlatune.", Thomas told Eva.
Without giving her much time to respond, the trainer headed off towards the town's exit, on the path towards the Sanlatune Forest.

thread ends with a fuming young lady ♥
She watched him try—and fail miserably—to contain a grin, and in that moment she realised that the brunette boy was just that. A boy. Evangeline Gaubert would, for the first time in her short life, find herself wondering whether she should be following her instincts, as she usually did, and be angry at his cockiness, or feel bad for letting a boy's childish antics to frustrate her so. It was not simply about showing him that cynism wasn't the only answer, or about lifting his spirits, anymore. No, the brunette's parting grin would strike her on a more personal and fundamental level.
Clearly, the female's thoughts were still opposing the male's.
"Goodbye," she said, simply, as he took off in the direction of Santalune. The lavender-haired woman frowned at the retreating figure for a fraction of a second, baffled at his not even replying to her implicit, unspoken question on what he and the police officer had talked about. Was he self-centered enough to expect her to have listened in, anyway, or was he just bad with body language? What's more, was he usually that disagreeable? Evangeline couldn't hide the fact that she was greatly upset about his ruthless behaviour, but she managed to sound court, even if with some difficulty, only because one of her life philosophies was to never doubt there was always a piece of goodness inside every person's heart.
Which, of course, didn't mean she couldn't greatly dislike a few, select people. A focused animosity reeked from her very aura until Paris, once more, came to the rescue. "Yes, you're right; let's get going," she agreed with her Pokémon's unspoken suggestion, and headed towards the exact opposite direction.
