Cynthia had recently heard of a new mission involved which she had some interest in taking a part of, as it coincided very well with her research so far and she just wanted to finish it off if she could. The mission involved finding the validity of the Sinnoh Mythology and she just felt she could help with that greatly at the moment. She had witnessed the dragon trio personally, having had an encounter with Palkia and Dialga and a semi battle with Giratina, where she attacked and it was sent back. She had also seen and tried to help save the spirit trios from the wrath of Team Galactic so she knew of their existence and prowess also.
The one pokemon she hadn't yet seen was Arceus, the Creator. And she knew that she needed to do that before she left Sinnoh for the time being. She went to the Canalave Library again, a place she had probably frequented over a hundred times, definitely more than she could even count, and she took out the same old mythology book and read it again. She was so accustomed to this book, having read it so much, that she could read one word and already know what the sentence would say in full. Cynthia stayed in the library, sitting in a nearby table to the mythology section as she reread the chapter on Arceus and its first creations.
NOTES:
Title: History of Sinnoh Claimed By: Open Catching: No Members: 2-4 Rewards: •15 Dots and a memorabilia photo book of discoveries Description: The historians of Sinnoh are trying to write a book about the history of Sinnoh, understanding the validity of the mythology of the region. Work together to discover how much of the stories written are true or not. In your journey, you may run into a few legendaries while you try to discover how Sinnoh was created and why it was made. You must bring a friend with you as there are just too much information for one mere mortal. Venture around Sinnoh to discover how it was created! Notes: You must have some interaction with Arceus because it plays such a big role on the creation of Sinnoh. Also you must be in Canalave Library to read up on the mythology so you know where to begin. You can use the dragon trio or the spirit trio if you want to help understand the history, though they are not necessary. It'd just be a fun activity to learn what Sinnoh is all about.

Zernebog hadn’t taken up a mission since he had successfully infiltrated the Silph corporation a few months ago and left some people extremely bothered about how completely he had beaten such a sophisticated security system. Hey, at least he was nice enough to leave them some good pointers even though it was their fault for waving a red cape in front of a Tauros.
He hadn’t even been thinking about taking one while he was in Sinnoh. In fact, this was supposed to be a little vacation of sorts before he returned to Orre and finished off the rest of the Gym Leaders and completed the circuit. However, when he had been offered this one by his grandparents as a gift of sorts it had been way too hard to resist. A chance to know the real reasons why Sinnoh was formed? Of course he was in! What kind of self-respecting archaeologist wouldn’t want a chance to figure that out?
That was why he had been in the Canalave library for several hours now, surrounded by piles of books and ancient texts in a table far away from the other people. He had to resist the urge to rub his eyes for the nth time with the back of his hand as he continued to make notes on the origins of the great creator Arceus and the dragon trio that governed the universe.
”Man… I got rusty with research work.” Zernebog muttered to himself as he continued to take notes on the current text he was reading, something that was written in the ancient cuneiform used by a long-vanished tribe of people that occupied the region long before people even thought of apricots being used as pokeballs. Most people wouldn’t be able to read it at all, but for Zernebog it was as easy as English because of his mother making him memorize that particular language and writing style by heart.
”Well, this is one way to brush up and remember everything about research.” He scratched his chin for a moment and cracked his neck before continuing to take even more notes. He’ll process them later, when he had enough data.
He was so engrossed in his work that he didn’t notice a familiar blond reading a book two tables over from him….
You don't own the road, boy. Better kick up a storm.

Cynthia loved to do things quietly and she liked to have as little distraction as possible while she gathered her research and read her books. She definitely did not get that luck when she was in Canalave Library today, as she noticed a person next to her, speaking intermittently as he was doing his research. It wasn't so loud to be that noticeable to the average person, but Cynthia was the type of person who needed to be engrossed in her work so she could not help but be bothered by the noise. Good thing was, when she turned to ask the person politely to keep it down... She noticed that it was a familiar face.
"Oh hey Zerne." She said to him as she put down her book at that moment and then noticed his books. They were about the same things as hers, the mythology of Sinnoh. But she noticed his were probably not as helpful as the one she had. They were an older and not as updated version. And she had to let him know, which was probably why he spoke to himself so intermittently. "Those are a bit old. You may want to check out the newer additions. A lot more research had been done about the species of Sinnoh since that was written." She said to him as she slid her book to his table.
She was an expert in this field so she knew all about the dates and stuff of the research books.

Zernebog’s gloved hand paused, staying still over the notebook page he had been writing on. He glanced up from the book he was reading and blinked when he saw a familiar face in front of his stack of old books and tomes.
”Cynthia?” Zernebog blinked and tilted his head. ”Hey there. What are you doing here?”
Zernebog watched her in a bit of amusement as she pointed out that the books were old and outdated and then proceeded to recommend the ones she had been reading
”A bit? Now there’s an understatement.” He deadpanned as he tapped the book he was reading. Some of the books he had borrowed from the librarian were much older than the last three great periods in the region’s history, including this one. They were so old that he wouldn’t have gotten access to them if the head librarian hadn’t known of the Romanov family’s reputation in Archaeology and if he hadn’t known him personally.
Then he chuckled. ”I’ll go through those after I finish with these.” Zernebog gestured towards the small stack of old books nearest him. ”Need to finish researching and reviewing Sinnoh’s mythology again from the original texts. ”
Zernebog paused for a moment, frowning. ”Or rather, the oldest texts found about the myths. Translated versions often lose things along the way as they are translated, like context or even entire passages. Or the translators add something that wasn’t there before.”
Zernebog returned to taking notes on the book he was reading after that. He was probably breaking the thug image already, but he didn’t need to encourage his true nerd side to rear its head up even more.
You don't own the road, boy. Better kick up a storm.

Cynthia knew that but still, it was refreshing to hear someone else say it to her. She had went through those carefully, knowing how to read the ancient texts so she often would not miss out on the critical information that translators could forget, as she was a translator herself. But she always liked to have an additional eye and it was nice to see that this guy, Zerne, may know that language too as he was sticking to the book and mentioning how translators can forget important information.
She nodded in approval, and then offered her expertise if he needed. "I've studied the language for a long time now. I can help you with the translation if you need. Although, I agree... It'd be nice to get another pair of eyes and brain on the texts." She said, and she waited for him to gather his information. Then, she went back to her own text and continued to jot down notes.
She had pages filled, pages she was willing to share with him after if he was interested.

Zernebog actually paused and looked up at Cynthia when she spoke, staring at her quizzically. She actually knew the language? There were very few that even studied this particular language even amongst his other fellow archaeologists, since they tend to rely on notable linguists instead for translation and focus on other things. Why in the world would she bother to learn this one?
”Another one who knows the language. I’m impressed.” Zernebog couldn’t help but state. ”Not many bother to learn a dead language, especially this one. You a linguist or something?”
Zernebog waited for a response before continuing. ”As for the offer, no need. I know the language well enough.” He shrugged. ”We can compare notes though. Try to sort out the inconsistencies and all that so that I can actually start on some field investigation instead of just parking my ass here for several hours and pouring over books.”
Zernebog smirked. ”Because as fun as it is to read, I know I prefer action. And you probably do too.” Otherwise he would have been a historian or some museum curator instead of being an adventuring trainer and archaeologist. How those people could stand being in a desk for so long and just give advice and speeches all day, he’ll never know. It’s so boring! Having to do the same thing every day would probably drive him to madness or something. Or back onto the road to sociopathy.
Cynthia smiled when he asked her why she bothered to learn the language, and when he said that he knew it too... She kind of felt it was obvious why she bothered. "Same reason as you. I am a researcher, have always been fascinated with the history of their region, since I was little and my grandmother taught it all to me." She said to Zerne as she reached into her jacket pocket and took out five pages of notes that she had been copying down, telling the backstory of the Sinnoh region.
She handed them to Zerne and then wondered if he would have his notes ready for her soon. The notes that she provided were pretty simplistic, but they did provide a good general overview of the entire mythology to date. It started with Arceus who created the dragon trio to rule the time, space, and distortion of the pokemon world. These pokemon were Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina. It then had a tree from there that linked to the lake guardians who control the mind with wisdom, knowledge, and willpower. It also showed that each were meant to balance one another out, as the three guardians were able to control the dragons with their mind, and the dragons were able to alter time, space, and distortion which could counteract the power of the guardians. Arceus then created the plates and each type of pokemon, each with their own strength and weaknesses against each other, and that was how the region and pokemon world was formed.
Those were the notes she had with her currently, a simplistic overview and she knew she had to gather more detail to really help with the new book on the mythology. She hoped that Zerne had something to help with it first though, before they set out. For example, location where they may have been seen? Places of the plates that could help. Or anything else for that matter...

Same reason?
In all honesty, that was extremely presumptuous. Cynthia didn’t even know what he did for a living aside from the obvious pokemon trainer vibes he was giving off. He wasn’t just a researcher, but a full-fledged archaeologist, complete with license and everything. Then again, almost no one knew that about him since he never bothered to dress up like those Ruin Maniacs and advertise that he was one of them.
”You’re a researcher, huh? That’s cool.” Zernebog commented as he returned his eyes to the book he was reading. ”I keep learning new stuff about ya every time we meet, Cynthia.”
He glanced up again for a second and saw that she was handing him some papers with writing on them. They were probably her notes, so he took them with a thankful nod before returning to his work. Since he was nearing the end of this particular book anyway, it didn’t take him long to finish taking notes and analyze them into a coherent form.
Once that was over with, he set his pen down and gave the notebook he had been scribbling notes on since he had stepped in here a few hours ago. The notebook was filled with passages he thought were important, surprisingly-intelligent and thorough commentaries, some footnotes written in his native language, and even several maps and diagrams with the relationships of the Sinnoh Legendaries and the maps of where all of their suspected locations could be according to the different texts. At the end, there were speculations about something called the Hall of Origins and something about a flute that was of the most precious azure color.
The most surprising bit of the notebook though was the unusually clean and neat handwriting and diagrams it had, especially since most people wouldn’t expect someone who looked like Zernebog –or any guy really- to have such a neat notebook. It’s something that would ruin the thug mask that he kept trying to wear, but since Cynthia already knew otherwise then he didn’t really care about hiding the neatness anymore.
”Here. Hope it isn’t confusing or anything since it’s not quite done. There’s still information missing.” He muttered as he started going over her notes, trying to find parts in there that he didn’t already know so that he could use it to get a more concrete picture of what he was looking for.

He took her notes but simply set them aside instead of looking at them. That disappointed the champion as she was expecting him to inspect them before he continued his own research, but instead he kind of just threw it down as if she was some novice researcher. Cynthia, the Sinnoh Champion who was also an expert in the Sinnoh mythology, was being one up at this moment by Zerne. She took his notes and began to examine them, reading them page by page and they were definitely a bit confusing but also very detailed. There were a lot of footnotes and also other languages written, most of which were in the native tongue of the antiquities.
Cynthia's eyes opened as she looked at it. She was definitely amazed by the time and effort Zerne put into the work. This was definitely well researched and made her work look a little petty in comparison, mainly because she had a lot of her research left at home and had only taken the scraps with her at the moment.
The one thing that stuck out to her was the azure flute discussion and the Hall of Origins. She had gotten part of that research also so they seemed to be in the same page at the moment. She decided to add on to the information though, with the two special orbs that she could gather information from. She jotted them down in a piece of paper and handed it over to Zerne. It spoke about the the Lustrous Orb and Adamant Orb. She had not yet discovered the Griseous Orb yet, as she didn't have much information about Giratina even after she encounter with it against Charon.
"The Azure Flute, I heard some things about it which you put in the notes. It is one of the rare items just like the Lustruous and Adamant Orbs, though it is said to summon Arceus whereas the other two are just part of Dialga and Palkia. I was able to translate that Giratina had an orb too, but couldn't figure out what it was..." She said.

I was able to translate that Giratina had an orb too, but couldn't figure out what it was..."
Golden eyes flickered from the pages he was reading and looked towards Cynthia. He had heard of those two orbs –mostly because his mother made him memorize that information by heart- but the fact that Giratina had an orb related to it too was new to him. He’d have to investigate at a later point in time, after he had finished finding out just why –and probably how as well if he was lucky- Sinnoh was made.
”So it actually summons God?” There was a hint of actual wonder in his voice. Who wouldn’t be amazed at something that would summon the Creator of All Things? ”If that’s true, then that object must be extremely powerful.”
Zernebog read a page more, finding that what she said coincided with what they both wrote down. ”Hey… Cynthia?” He looked to her again, this time with a small frown on his face as he made connections in all of the information he had read, especially about the Azure Flute and the Hall of Origin. He didn’t know why, but his gut told him that those last two pieces of information were extremely important.
”If the Azure Flute does exist….” Which it probably did, considering that Dialga and Palkia had their items of power. But as long as he didn’t have actual proof, he couldn’t say that out loud. ”Would it work anywhere or would it only work at a certain place? If it would even work at all and this isn’t just bogus talk.”

She knew some things about Zerne but for the most part, they were still strangers to one another. She didn't know if she could trust the person and he scared her a bit when he showed his excitement for the Azure Flute. The way he spoke made her wonder if he had bad intentions for it... He was a researcher just like her, but he also seemed to have ulterior motives which made her a bit uneasy at that moment. She heard him ask and she wondered if she should actually tell him... The idea of the god coming to the wrong hands scared her greatly, she was able to handle Giratina and did hold her own a little bit against Palkia and Dialga (not really but hey, she won't admit that). But the idea of going against the almighty one? That she didn't like.
The problem was, she honestly didn't know how to get the Azure Flute. She heard of its powers but didn't ever see it for herself and didn't even know if it really existed. She shrugged, having no idea where it could be. But she had other information too, shared by a fellow champion Lance. It was about another way to summon the creator, but she didn't want to divulge that information yet. Not until she found out if she could trust Zerne or not.
NOTES:
So the manga doesn't go into the Azure Flute. Instead Arceus is summoned when you gather the 16 plates, we could go either route if you want...

Zernebog drummed his fingers on the desk as he continued to read the book, waiting for her to answer. Several minutes passed before it became obvious to him that she wasn’t going to answer.
Even though this was a library, the silence between them felt somehow awkward. Strained. Something he had to fix, as it seemed.
”Well….” Zernebog began as he looked up from her notes again. ”Even if, theoretically speaking, we find the flute and summon Arceus successfully… is Arceus really going to tell us anything?”
For him, it was more likely that Arceus was going to either ignore them and go back to wherever it was residing or try to annihilate them from existence because they summoned him from where it was residing. Maybe they would need offerings to the Lord of All in order to make it pleased enough to share even the most miniscule piece of knowledge about the universe. But what could they possibly offer that the Lord of All didn’t already have or couldn’t make for itself? What would be stopping it from turning them into their component atoms with a single twitch of its eyes?
Nothing, that’s what.
Zernebog turned the page in Cynthia’s notes and stared at it for a few moments. ”I’m not a coward or religious nut or anything, but there’s just something… blasphemous about summoning God for something so trivial.”
He dry swallowed and put Cynthia’s notebook down. ”Maybe we can try another avenue that doesn’t disturb Arceus, like say… finding one of the plates mentioned in our notes?” He remarked as he ran a gloved finger through one of the names on the notebook.
”Safer.” Zernebog paused for a moment and grinned. ”Saner. What do you think?”
You don't own the road, boy. Better kick up a storm.

Cynthia wasn't there when Arceus attacked with Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina. She did not witness Team Rocket's blasphemous plans and had no idea what damage it actually caused since they were not in Sinnoh at the time. She had heard some of the rumors but she had not seen it for herself, but yet when Zernebog brought up the idea... She started to have second thoughts and think about the entire ordeal. She remembered her ordeal against Palkia and Dialga, she remembered the damage they had caused and how it was near impossible to stop them, had it not been for the heroes with the pokedex.
She also remembered the dealing with Giratina, who she was able to get back into the dimension but if it was to be combined with Palkia and Dialga. She knew that Arceus was known as the creator so it could easily make them from scratch and she realized that having to battle all of them and the Creator was just impossible. She nodded in silence when Zernebog wanted to go another route, especially since she never saw god herself.
"I agree. It may also all be mythology. Finding a plate may prove its existence instead." She said, but she also remembered hearing rumors of the summoning of Arceus. It had something to do with the plates so she felt a bit worried about that.
"What do we do after with the plate though? I read Arceus is very protective over them..."

True. It could all be just legends and myths thought up by the people of old. But given the world that they were living in….
”It could be.” Zernebog acquiesced. ”But it could also be real. There’s really only one way to find out the truth behind the written texts.”
And finding out is often the best part of his real job. Well, right next to all of the exotic places he got to journey to in order to find out the truth.
Gold eyes flickered over to Cynthia again when she asked a very important question. ”Study it, of course.” He tapped his fingers on her notebook.
”The entire point of this is to find out how and why the region was made, right?” Zernebog paused for a moment for her to absorb his rhetorical question. ”There’s bound to be some clues hidden within Arceus’ plates, if nothing else.”
He leaned back into his seat and assumed a contemplative expression. ”But after that, who knows? Maybe we can give it to a museum for display or for archiving –though I’m not so sure about that given the general track record with villainous teams and powerful artifacts- or hide it away again somewhere safe and remote. Or keep it for future study.”
He shrugged. ”It all boils down to circumstance. What we find out in the end.”

TAG / WORDS
One could not blame Cynthia for being suspicious after her encounter with the other dragon legendaries, but she heard the responses of Zernebog and nodded in approval finally. "I agree. I am interested to and have met some of the other legendaries but never the creator." She said as she continued her reading and realized how ineffective they were in terms of finding a plate. There wasn't much data about the location or even existence of the plates, she had just read it in a cave painting once but it seemed no one had developed it any further. She hadn't had the slightest idea where to start in her search for a plate, she didn't really even know what they were for that matter.
"I am ready for this adventure if you are." She said before she started to ponder it a bit, putting her hand on her chin. "But... Do you know anything about these plates? Like where we may find them or what they may be? I haven't seen much information on the history of the plates?" She said to Zerne.
