Disappointment.
It was something that Zernebog rarely ever felt. He always preferred to look at the brighter side of things or distract himself with other things, like focusing on an upcoming dig or challenge or getting wrapped up in something interesting. That was actually how he got into that enormous mess back in that region with the organization, but that wasn’t the topic on hand.
That dubious honor belonged to the fact that Allondra, the Gym Leader that he was supposed to be challenging next, suddenly vanished into thin air. Not literally of course, though you never knew with a world like this. However, having to hear it from a traveler from Anatase instead of the woman herself made him want to track her down and give her a good slap to the back of her head. How dare she go off to parts unknown without even having a shred of decency to inform him, her friend! Didn’t she think that there might be people that might be interested in her well-being like her family and friends? That there might be people who would want to challenge the gym while she was gone?
Well, now that she had vanished… he had no choice but to backtrack to another city. There was a Water gym in Gateon Port, which was close enough to ice to match, he supposed. Maybe this will be close enough to make up for not managing to battle Allondra like he’d promised Gwyneth. After all, that was all he needed to see the pink hared woman for, right?
Right.
He ignored the voice in the back of his mind that whispered about his blatant hypocrisy and simply sat down in a corner as he watched his pokemon train. Or rather, Diomedes dance around an unwaveringly-determined Cross as he tried to actually make contact with the Lucario with the only move he has in his arsenal- Take Down. Granted, they weren’t the ones he was going to use for his upcoming Gym Challenge, but he still felt that they needed training. Or rather, that Cross needed training.
”Make your turns sharper, Cross.” Zernebog ordered when he saw his Beldum start to falter. ”Don’t give Dio time to predict where you are going to move next.”

Gateon Port; Aeon stepped off the boat into the familiar town. The familiarity of it did nothing to relax his nerves. He’d been avoiding Orre mostly because of people he’d managed to piss off before moving. Now that he was back he felt rather on edge, especially since Veronica had decided she wanted to tag along with him. The trip itself was to head to Agate for the holidays.
Luckily, it didn’t seem like there would be any sign of the thugs he’d crossed today. The port town was relatively quiet despite all the people bustling around with their daily chores. Adjusting the bag slung over his shoulder, the breeder began heading toward the middle of town. He needed to get his bearings and double check a map before they could head off to Agate Village. “Veronica, don’t fall behind, alright?” he called over his shoulder to the small girl following him.
As he made his way to the center of town, he spotted a familiar mop of white hair. His brother was off to one side, his Lucario apparently training with a very oddly colored Beldum. It hadn’t seemed like the younger brother had spotted him yet, so he gently took Veronica’s arm and started heading over to the less crowded area. It was probably less crowded due to the two sparring Pokemon, but that seemed irrelevant.

Veronica was excited. She was used to travelling, but it would be her first time in Orre, and her first trip alongside Aeon. However, because it was her first time in Orre, she was also rather nervous, and she stayed very close to Aeon, barely resisting the urge to cling to his back for safety.
Staying close to his back, Kat glanced around, before hearing his call and responding cheerily. "Kay~" She smiled happily, maintaining her position close to Aeon's back. She debated whether she should call out Riza to ride, but decided against it, merely staying close to Aeon.
Kat was taken by surprise when Aeon grabbed her arm, letting out a squeaky yelp of surprise, and flailing a bit before her senses returned and she started following him. After a moment, she noticed the other white-haired man, as well as the Lucario and uniquely-colored Beldum, and glanced up at Aeon. "Whozat?"

As if to emphasize Zernebog’s point, Diomedes suddenly picked up speed and tapped Cross before he was able to react at all. ”Lu.” The Lucario smiled at the Beldum as it did its best impression of a blink, waving at it congenially.
”Alright, you two. Enough.” Zernebog held up a hand, having decided that making them do this mock-sparring for over an hour after their warm-up regime was enough. ”That’s enough sparring for this session. You can both rest now.”
At the order, Diomedes visibly relaxed, huffing out a sigh through his nose. Beside him, Cross made a robotic sound and went to float next to its sparring partner, looking as impassive as ever.
Once he was sure that they had settled down and that neither of them was going to try and hit the other while they were resting, Zernebog tore his gaze away from them and towards the rest of the park. To his surprise, he saw a very familiar white-haired figure walking towards him and his pokemon, with some sort of purple-haired girl on his back.
”Aeon?” Zernebog called out to the approaching figure, having calmed down from his internal tirade. ”What are you doing back here so soon? And is that your niece or something clinging to your back like an Aipom?”
Beside him, Diomedes waved eagerly at Aeon and the new person while trying not to snicker at the completely accurate description he gave of the girl’s actions. In contrast, Cross just turned around to face them and stared them down with his eerie and icy blue eyes that were devoid of anything but faint curiosity.

Aeon glanced around a bit nervously as he brother so casually threw his name out. “Ah…well, I’m not really back,” he was talking a bit slower than normal, putting extra emphasis on his phrasing and adding in some hand motions as well, “Laying low since my mom wanted me to come back for the holidays.” He looked rather sheepish as he spoke, especially with the little “Aipom” clinging to him still.
“Oh, and this is Kat,” he was glad to change the subject, motioning toward the female he had in tow, “She’s just a friend that’s been staying at my place for a while.”
Noticing the rather excited looking Lucario waving, an idea struck the breeder. “Ah, Dio, I’ve got someone you should meet,” he said cheerfully as he pulled one of the Pokeballs from his belt. With quick push of the button there was a flash of light before a scruffy-furred, red Riolu landed gracefully on the ground.
Sheik blinked a couple of times before her blue eyes began scanning the new scenery. She’d never actually been in a desert before, and the huge amounts of sand were intriguing. That was, before the site of the Lucario and Beldum caught her attention.
Round and round I won’t run away this time Till you show me what this life is for
Kat giggled as she poked her head over Aeon's shoulder. "Whitey-white number two!" She giggled, pointing at Zernebog. "Does he have a tail too?"
Suddenly, there was a small flash, and from Kat's bag emerged a little golden-furred bug glistening with tiny arcs of electricity. Chittering, the little bug crawled up Kat's back, before moving over to Aeon's shoulder and hopping off to the ground, skittering over to the Beldum and gazing up. The curious black metal creature intrigued her, and she wanted to investigate what made it tick.
With a few clicks of her mandibles, she jumped up, clinging to the Beldum and crawling all over it. She let loose multiple excited clicks as she examined each and ever nook and cranny of the Beldum, trying to find a gear or a cog or something. Something that would explain to her how the curious being functioned. It was driving her batty that she couldn't figure it out.

From Aeon’s tone, Zernebog could hear more than a little reluctance about the entire topic. If he remembered their previous face-to-face conversation right, then he supposed that he had a lot of reason to be afraid of going back here. If he had anything to compare it to, it would be like him coming back to that region where Arcane mainly operated or maybe even Hoenn to a lesser extent due to all of the shenanigans he had gotten into while he was there. While he was sure that almost no one in Hoenn would be able to recognize him due to all of the changes he had undergone physically, especially since he had been dyeing his hair black when he could back then, he couldn’t say the same for the other region. There were friends and acquaintances he left there, some of which knew his true appearance and a few might even be able to connect his new self with his old one despite the lack of a distinctive red Mohawk or his former slim dancer’s physique.
”Your mom, huh? Shoulda guessed.” Zernebog chuckled as he took raised an eyebrow at him. ”You didn’t sound like you wanted to go back here anytime soon.”
Zernebog didn’t mind when his older brother changed the subject. If he didn’t want to talk about it more, then he wasn’t going to push… for now. Maybe later. ”Friend, eh?”
That was as far as he got before said friend spoke up, calling him… whitey-white number two and asking if he had a tail? ”Tail? What the hell is she talking-”
Zernebog paused, taking another look at Aeon and finally noticing the pokemon tail pinned to his pants. ”…Oh, that. No, Kitty girl, I don’t have a tail. Why do you have a tail anyway, Aeon? Felt like making your own pride or something?”
Zernebog turned a flat stare towards the kid. ”And it’s Zernebog. Zerne if that’s too hard for you to pronounce.”
While his trainer was distracted by the small girl, Diomedes turned his attention towards Aeon. A curious look was etched on his face as he stared at the other human. Someone he should meet? Who could it be?
Diomedes watched as the other human took out a pokeball and released a Riolu that was colored in the most curious way. It was as if the colors of her eyes and her fur traded places in order to get her current coloration. Strange, but after being surrounded by his big brothers and his new little brother Cross, the sight didn’t even make him bat an eyelash.
(Hello there little lady~) Diomedes waved a little and then bowed at the waist with a polite smile on his face. (Who might you be~?)
Meanwhile, Cross was completely unbothered by the small yellow creature that decided to creep around its form. It was unpertubed by such things. It was a machine, so feelings were useless and irrelevant for the most part, no matter what its new trainer said about those being able to fuel its power to greater heights when used right. As far as it was concerned, it was doing nothing of importance, so it wouldn’t have it removed… for now.
words: 216 tagged: kat, zerne notes: still trying to get my muse to make longer posts
The tail; somehow Aeon wondered how Zerne was just now asking about it. Vincent hadn’t even bothered asking about the tail yet. Kat hadn’t bothered asking about it either. To be entirely honest, Aeon had expected to be grilled about it ages ago. “Ah, that,” he chuckled a bit, “It’s for a bet. I have to keep it on until my official return to Orre, the stakes being licking a Cacnea.
“Winning the bet means my buddy in The Under has to, and I caught the perfect Cacnea for that a while ago.” Aeon didn’t feel the best about letting that particular Pokemon out of the confines of his ball, but he could make an exception for the bet.
Her attention now focused nearly entirely on the Lucario, Sheik tilted her head to the side a bit. She remembered seeing other Lucario and Riolu before being captured, all of them with the same coloration as the one before her. Her colors were backwards, and now everyone could see that since Aeon managed to get that annoying paint stuff washed out of her fur.
She wasn’t used to seeing anyone display any kind of polite chivalrous behavior, so Dio’s bow made her a bit curious. With her head still tilted a bit she responded, “Link…my name’s Sheik.”
Round and round I won’t run away this time Till you show me what this life is for
Kat giggled as Zerne introduced himself, trying to memorize his name in her head, before just sighing. "Zizzles!" She laughed, popping off of Aeon's back and scurrying over to Zerne, examining him with a discerning eye. Despite her apparent innocence, she had a keen eye for reading people. After a few pops, turns, and sharp eyeings, Kat backed away, grinning. "Yepyep, Zizzles is a good guy. Good like Aeny~" She giggled again, scurrying back over to Aeon's side. "No tail, though. Boooo~"
Meanwhile, Jiggers continued to skitter about on the surface of the shiny black metal being, letting out very small twinges of electricity with each footstep across the sleek metallic surface, testing the conductivity of the material. She was sincerely intrigued by the creature, and quite curious as to how it maintained lift despite no flapping of wings, plumes of flames, or other visible means of lift. It confounded the little bug so, and she wondered if she would be able to copy the method once she figured it out.

”A bet?”
Out of all the answers Zernebog was expecting, that wasn’t quite what he had in mind. It sounded so… logical and ordinary. Boring, in fact, even with the stipulation of licking a Cacnea. But that might’ve been because he hadn’t hung out with what others would refer to as ordinary for a very long time now. For some reason, he always attracted the weirdos… though admittedly not as much as some other people he could name.
”Sounds like fun.” He finally replied after a moment of silence, the lie easily rolling off his tongue like water. No need to antagonize his brother yet. Maybe when they were a little bit more comfortable with each other.
He wasn’t able to say anything else because the strange little girl jumped down from his brother’s back and started calling him….
”Zizzles?” He deadpanned, raising an eyebrow at girl who was examining him like a museum piece. That sounded way too much like some sort of horrible carbonated drink for his tastes.
”Can’t we just go with Zerne, kitty girl?” He asked her with a slight irritated frown.
His mood turned from irritated to confused when the girl apparently called him a good guy before scurrying back off to Aeon’s side. Good guy? Didn’t he look like some ruffian thug that shouldn’t be messed with, because that was what he was going for? Was he losing his touch already just because he lost his vaunted Mohawk? Sure, it was good for keeping incognito because no one would ever suspect him of doing the crimes he did while under Arcane, but… he kinda liked the evil tough guy look.
He decided to just play dumb and raise an eyebrow, his gaze lingering on the girl with his brother. ”Good guy? What makes you think that?”
(A mighty fine pleasure meeting ya, Sheik.) Diomedes gave her a small smile as he kneeled down to her level. (But my name ain’t Link. It’s Diomedes. Just feel free to call me Dio, little lady~)
Meanwhile, Cross was still floating beside its canine companion. Its single icy blue eye was watching their interaction, though given how motionless it was, it could very well be mistaken for a floating statue. Not even the strange tingles from the yellow creature’s legs could bother it enough to actually garner a real reaction. There still wasn’t anything that warranted its attention or interest, so it wouldn’t bother.
Still, there was an insignificant portion of its many mental processes that wished for the telekinetic powers of its evolved counterparts. Nothing it couldn’t pointedly ignore though.
words: 219 tagged: kat, zerne notes: muse is being a butt
Watching the short exchange, Aeon couldn’t help but feel slightly embarrassed by Kat’s antics. He was glad his brother wasn’t ribbing him about the bet; but he had a feeling he’d try and start if Kat kept up her antics. With embarrassment clearly written on his expression from the small girl’s behavior, Aeon tried to apologize for her, “Sorry, she’s a bit…excitable.” And odd, he wanted to add, but kept himself from sticking his foot in his mouth. He didn’t need her running off because she was annoyed with him and have to bail her out of more trouble. He also didn’t want her to take it out on him, since he had no way to keep her quiet that didn’t involve buying her sugar; and that would only make things worse.
The small, red jackal set her paw on the end of Dio’s nose before responding, “You look like a Link.” She felt a bit odd interacting with other Pokemon when none of her “family” was around. They were all still in their Pokeballs and clipped to Aeon’s belt; and she had no real reason to pull any of them out since they weren’t in a battle where she had the disadvantage. Sheik was also beginning to feel a bit unnerved by the odd floating thing’s constant stare.
Round and round I won’t run away this time Till you show me what this life is for
Kat stared indignantly at Zerne, before shaking her head. "Nope. Zizzles is Zizzles. End of discussion." Kat giggled, sticking out her tongue at Zerne, before more of her Pokemon decided to pop out.
This time, it was Pard, who also opened up Skittles' Ball, and the two cats paced around Aeon for a moment, before trotting over to Zerne and eyeing him sharply. Pard circled him clockwise, while Skittles circled counter-clockwise, purring aggressively. "Hrmmmm. I'm not sure I like this guy. He's got a...ruffian scent about him. I don't like it one bit." Skittles commented sharply, glaring at Zerne, while Pard followed up. "Maaaybe I should cut him up. Just a little. See how tough his skin is, you know?" He sniggered, as he continued to circle. Skittles simply huffed. "No, no, that won't do. He is Aeon's brother after all. That means Kat's potential in-law. Don't want bad blood."

“Sorry, she’s a bit…excitable.”
Half-lidded golden eyes stared at Aeon flatly. ”You don’t say?” Zernebog drawled as he glanced at the purple haired girl with the same expression. ”I didn’t notice that at all.”
Zernebog was already a bit unamused by the entire situation, but the girl was really starting to test his newfound patience when she decided to ignore his request. If he hadn’t personally heard much worse before, then he might’ve actually done something terrible to the girl for screwing up his name like that. One of the few things that calmed his fraying temper was that even Aeon wasn’t excluded from this bizarre treatment.
”Stubborn one aren’t you, kitty girl?” Zernebog deadpanned as he stared at the girl with the same flat, half-lidded stare that he had just directed to Aeon a few moments ago.
He then directed his flat stare towards the two felines who popped out of their pokeballs and decided to circle around him after making a short detour to Aeon. He wasn’t sure why the Delcatty and the bigger and more badass version of a Purrloin were circling around him like he was a target or something, but if they had anything bad in mind then he was going to either hogtie them and place them on a pole on top of the highest point on this port or dislocate a few bones. He didn’t mind violence against pokemon as long as they can fight back, especially if they deserved it.
Meanwhile, Diomedes was still talking with the strange red-furred and blue-eyed Riolu that Aeon had apparently recently acquired. Now he was more amused than anything else at this little pup already associating him with something she termed as Link, whoever or whatever that was.
”Oh really now?” Diomedes rubbed the underside of his muzzle thoughtfully. ”That’s the first I’ve heard of it, little lady.”
Even as he talked to Sheik though, his ears twitched as they easily picked up the chatter between the two cats as well as the mischievous vibes in their aura. If they tried anything funny, then he would deal with them before his trainer did. It would be the merciful thing to do, as sometimes Pops could be as cruel and vindictive as big brother Erebus, especially while he was in one of his moods.
He would have left the guarding to Cross… but he wasn’t trained enough to handle multiple opponents yet. Not with only one move in his arsenal. He would have to evolve before taking on multiple opponents.
Speaking of Cross, the floating oddly-colored Beldum turned its attention the two cats. Its icy blue eye was now staring at them with a coldness that could only be borne from an almost complete lack of emotion. New or not, it still had a duty to defend its trainer. If Diomedes did not do that, then it will.
words: 232 tagged: kat, zerne notes: my muse is still fighting me
There was a sinking feeling in Aeon’s stomach that things were getting a bit out of hand when he saw Pard and Skittles made their way over to Zerne. This isn’t going to end well, he thought to himself with a slight sigh. When it came to battling, it was pretty obvious his younger brother had much more experience than he did; so sending out another of his Pokemon to keep things from escalating likely wouldn’t work too well. It didn’t take long for him to come to the conclusion that it was up to Veronica to keep her Pokemon in line.
Sheik paid no mind to what the humans chose to do with their time. Now and again something Aeon would do would catch her interest and she’d feel the need to investigate. This was not one of those rare times, so the Riolu didn’t bother with paying attention to what they were saying to one another. Instead she kept her focus trained on Dio, her head tilted to the side slightly. “Well it’s true,” she gave an affirmative nod as she closed her blue eyes a moment. While her eyes were closed, she used what little aura sensing ability she’d developed to key in on Dio’s aura signature. It seemed like a useful aura to remember, so she filed the knowledge away in her mind before opening her eyes again.

The circling felines were starting to get on his nerves. A lesser man would’ve already snapped and asked the two cats to move away from him and give him some space, but Zernebog was made out of sterner stuff than that. He’d been forced to endure more annoying things for far longer before, something that he still blamed Ricki for making him play babysitter.
While still blatantly ignoring the two cats, Zernebog turned his attention to his half-brother. ”Then I suppose that you’re only passing by to get to Agate, am I right?”
His eyes flickered towards the short girl. ”But then why are you bringing the kitty girl along? She has business with your mom or something?”
”If you say so, little lady” Diomedes grinned lopsidedly as he looked at the smaller form. As he was looking at her, a sudden thought came to him like a lightning bolt. Only not as painful.
”Hm….” Diomedes’ eyes narrowed for a second as he tilted his head and tapped the underside of his muzzle. ”Little lady sounds wee bit too formal for me to call one of Zerne’s brother’s pokemon. Do you mind if I call ya lil’ red instead~?”
