The ball stopped wobbling, and despite his exhaustion Alder batted it over to Pepper for her to pick up. She did so, then scratched the cat under his chin. "That was pretty good for our first battle together," she told him. Alder purred, pleased with the compliment. "Of course, it probably didn't hurt that it didn't have any Fairy-type moves to really hurt you with." The purring changed into a scowl. He stuck his nose into the air. Pepper laughed, stroking a hand down his back despite his protests. She returned him to his pokeball and put it away. He deserved a good rest for being so brave. Charging straight into that attack had been reckless, but worth it.

I think I'll call our new friend Daisy, Pepper thought to herself. She seems like a Daisy. That done, she put away that ball as well and stood up straight, stretching. Still, it's a shame about the tree... She didn't know what it was like to lose a home. She hoped the Ralts would be okay. Had she been living out here all by herself? Didn't she have any friends? She'd agreed to leave so readily.

Oh well. She could contemplate these things later. Pepper left the clearing and the ruined tree behind, continuing her search for future companions. It felt like she was getting greedy now, but she'd had those empty pokeballs just sitting in her bag ready to be used up. It would be a shame to just let them sit there and collect dust. Besides, taking care of more Pokemon might get her mind off other things, such as where her mother had disappeared to. Hopefully, she'd find her soon and head back to Hoenn where she could introduce all her new friends to the rest of her family.
