PERSONALITY There are people with ties, chains that tether them to the ground, where they can only dream of brushing the skies above. There are people satisfied with spending their entire lives in one place, fulfilling an everyday routine lacking even an ounce of something different, something new. There are free spirits, like a certain white-haired young woman who, though eighteen years of age, never truly grew up. Alicia Laufey is the adventurous protagonist of this story. She’s an explorer, a finder, someone who feels the need to delve into every nook and cranny the universe offers. Nothing binds her to one place or person, and she never loiters in one place for long. One of her goals is to traverse the world and experience anything and everything, and she doesn’t plan to abandon it anytime soon. Sometimes she’ll be at peace with settling down somewhere for a stretch of time, ranging from a day to a week to a month to a year, but wanderlust will seize her in the end and she’ll drift on, a downy dandelion seed on the volatile wind. Only the stars, the zephyrs, and the ever-changing landscape guide her way. With a vivacious personality, all rosy cheeks and wide smiles and tintinnabulation, Alice is an interesting person to be around. Always lively and eager, her energy seems to be boundless as she tackles every new day with enthusiasm. This young woman is bubbly and outgoing, going out of her way to be kind to and gentle with others. Alice wants to help and understand, to love and teach others to do so as well. She comes off as innocent, but she has seen her fair share of darkness--it’s just that she likes to focus on the light. Optimism is paramount to her. Surprisingly enough, Alice is extremely sensitive and emotional to boot. Jokes that aren’t meant to be insulting sting, comments that unintentionally bring bad memories to the surface erase her smiles. She cries all too easily, but cheers up at a few choice words of comfort. As such, this individual comes off as overly dramatic, though she doesn’t mean to be this way. Alice’s intelligence is questionable. Fields such as math, science, and history don’t interest her, as she dislikes cold, hard facts. Her knowledge in those spheres amount to almost sixth grade level, displayed by her C’s and D’s on her middle school report cards. However, she’s extremely perceptive, logical, and intuitive, and she applies these traits when training her Pokemon. Speaking of Pokemon, her take towards them is that they are family, nothing less. Everything she does and everywhere she goes, Alice is accompanied by at least one of them. When training them, though, she adopts an almost militaristic approach, drilling them to their limits on move combinations and formations. Instead of raw power, she focuses on strategies to outwit her opponents. Sometimes she likes to watch coordinating contests, observing creativity at work, which vastly influences her way of battling. Most of what she does connects with nature: dancing in the rain, weaving flower crowns, dispersing seeds among gathering birds. Her lifestyle leans towards the Amish side in this way, and she struggles to understand and use technology. Alice is a very whimsical and carefree person, which means she doesn’t carry any burdens on her back but doesn’t have distinct goals. She wants to explore the world, bond with her Pokemon and facilitate their growth, and have fun. No defeating gyms, no opening businesses, none of that. Her interests fluctuate rapidly, and she often picks up one tradition only to drop it for another the next day. Dying eggs red, baking coins into cakes--the only custom she continues with is the thousand paper stars. Legend goes that if one folds a thousand origami stars, that that person garners a wish of their choosing. Alice is fascinated with this custom and possesses a large jar full of all the stars she has folded so far, finding a little time and paper every day to create another. She’s about halfway done so far. Alice is fine-tuned towards the arts: painting, dancing, music-making, etc. Though she loves nothing more than to listen and watch these fields at work, she only one she actually partakes in is writing, specifically that of poetry. A prolific writer, she churns out several poems a day in her mind, though only a select few make it onto paper. Practically a walking dictionary, she has an expansive vocabulary, and her colloquy is riddled with convoluted words. So if you ask yourself one day who is that girl counting leaves in a clover patch or laughing gaily into the wind, you now know the answer. Alice. Ambitions: As described above, not much. Grow stronger, bond with Pokemon, traverse the world, fold a thousand paper stars. Have fun. Live. Laugh. Love. HISTORY In a relatively isolated archipelago region, in a cherry blossom-strewn village in the north, Alicia was born as the only child to Jason and Lucilla Laufey. Growing up in an Amish, secluded village where everyone knew one another, technology consisted of running water and electricity, and Pokemon roamed free makes for a unique character. It seemed like a hazy summer reverie, children playing with marbles and dolls under cherry trees, all of them accompanied with their very own Pokemon, a one-room school, and wooden cabins. Alice, as her father was a farmer, got up at the crack of dawn every day to milk Miltanks, bake and cook, churn butter, hang clothes on clotheslines, etc. Mary had a little lamb, and Alice had a little dragon. Bought by her father as an egg and given to her on her fifth birthday, Chaos Theory (Theo for short) the Deino followed her everywhere on clumsy feet and good intentions, often knocking fragile items over and trampling the neighbor's gardenias as he went. Despite his klutziness, though, Alice loved him with all her heart. So passed her childhood, and as she passed into her teenage years, Alice grew restless and fidgety. Daydreaming in class and helping out around the house, however pleasant, just wasn't the life for her. At the age of fifteen, she couldn't resist the world's beckoning and turned to her parents, begging them for a chance to venture out of the home that had become so familiar but trite to her. Controversy ensued instantly. Who would do the cleaning and churning and milking? The world's a dangerous place, why would you want to go out there? People could kidnap you. Don't you like this village? We'll miss you too much. But the call of the wild was too strong, and Alice persisted for an entire year before her parents gave up, hoping that the experience would be good for her. In an attempt to secure his daughter's safety a bit more, Jason brought back an aloof Sneasel from a Pokemon trader's shop and presented her to the young woman. With two companions by her side, Alice excitedly began her journey. She learned so much and met so many, slowly but surely defeating each of the gyms and bringing up the strength of her fearsome Pokemon team. After two years, she had finally earned her eighth badge and was preparing to challenge the Pokemon League itself. But, as mentioned before, Alice was a free spirit. Defeating the Elite Four and becoming the Champion of the region, while an immense feat, would tie her to the region. She would be showered with spotlights and fame, and be obliged to stay there as the Champion of the archipelago for the rest of her life. That wasn't the life for her. Setting her sights on the Nue region, Alice decided to forge her trail there next and pack light, so she selected just ten of her various Pokemon to bring along and sent the rest to her home village for the children to adopt. The young woman chose the following family members: Chaos Theory (Theo) the Hydreigon, who had stayed with Alice through thick and thin even before her grand journey began. Though he still knocked delicate items over and stepped on beds of flowers from time to time, he was no longer the Deino who tripped over his own shadow but a majestic hydra. A more faithful companion no-one could ask for. Absolute Zero (Lute) the Weavile, who was there at the incipient of the expedition. Somewhat cold and aloof but steadfast and intelligent, the female was an agile battler who struck her opponents so fast that they were knocked out before they knew what was happening. Excalibur (Cal) the Aegislash, violent and volatile but loyal to his cause. Upon being notified that Kalos Pokemon were being meted out for free at a Pokemon Lab, she hurried there at once and requested a Honedge, who became a key factor of her team. Oblivious Chains (Obby) the Absol, a somber and serious character who moved and acted like a wraith. He saved Alice's life at the base of a snowy mountain one day when she was cornered by a horde of Metangs, and from then on became a valued member of her party. Gravitational Pull (Pull) the Metagross, the Pokemon with a rebellious streak but a good heart. It had been the only Metang to give chase to Alice and the (at the time) wild Absol, and it was captured after a fierce battle. Though they came off to a rocky start, Alice managed to tame the rage-filled Pokemon and bond with it after a series of difficult training sessions. Cacophony (Caco) the Noivern, who was as hyperactive and energetic as a ball that never stops bouncing. Alice met her in the same cave as Sleeping Angel, where she befriended the wild Noibat fast and secured her a position in the party. Fast-paced and ready to roll, this bat is a wonderful Pokemon to be around. Sleeping Angel (Sleep) the Carbink, a kind and gentle soul who was almost always, well, asleep. It was totally willing to tag along with Alice after they met in a crystal-lined cavern, and now she's determined to rid the Pokemon of its laziness. Mixologist (Mixey) the Shuckle, a spunky and also somewhat rebellious turtle with much to offer as an ally. She was practically shoved into Alice's hands after she started a fire in the heart of the region's capital (a long story), and showed surprising strength in her team. Kite the baby Wingull, a runt of the litter with dreams of touching the heavens. Though awkward on land, he turned out to be as graceful as a Swanna in the air, and he shows huge potential as a fighter, Finally, Prototype 64 (Proto) the Porygon, a Pokemon who shows almost no personality at all. After winning it in a casino, Alice was determined to bring out some temperament in it, but so far it remains stubbornly bland. So the eleven friends, one human and the rest not, caught a boat to the Nue region and began their new life in a fresh, new world. OTHER INFORMATION Alice will not challenge any gyms or participate in any competitions unless it's urgent for some reason or someone convinces her to. RP SAMPLE RP Sample: "Shh" susurrused the stars, Serpentining And then writer's block struck. A mellow sigh escaped pale lips as Alice tapped the metallic end of her pencil on the table, staring blankly as it bounced up and down, up and down. "Swish, swoosh, sip, slip, swim, swoon, swill, soft, shot, shame, shale, simmer," she whispered, almost inaudibly, to herself. "Svelte, sigh, series, seriatim..." The letter 's' was the girl's favorite out of the entire alphabet, in both appearance and sound. Twining around an invisible pole like a snake, soft and slurring and slow and enigmatic, like the murmured promise of a masked being. She loved it so much that she decided to dedicate a poem to it, as an amateur writer. Though s-words swirled around in the profound depths of her mind, she struggled to filter them onto the paper. "Snake?" her soft, lilting voice inquired to the flickering candle, which was dripping wax onto the wood, next to the page. "No, that would be redundant. Serpentine means snake-like..." But wouldn't it be poetic as well, if incorporated correctly? Hmm. The already cracked-open door's hinges creaked as someone entered the room. Pink oculars swiveled sideways to see an Absol pad up, tall in stature and solemn in expression. "Oh! 'lo, Obby. Where were you?" Alice greeted her partner, swiveling around and resting her chin on the top of her chair. The majestic mountain being just stared directly at her, visionaries betraying nothing. The girl opened her mouth to speak again when the door groaned a second time and someone else stepped inside. |
