I'm gonna fight 'em off
A seven nation army couldn't hold me back
”Attention passengers,” the calm, authoritative voice of the captain called out, the speakers scattered throughout the boat, projecting her voice for all to hear, “We’ll be docking in Sunyshore Bay shortly. Gather up all your things and get ready to get off my boat! Thank you, and have a nice day.” The announcement spurred many of the sea-goers into action, including one previously slumbering blue-haired Trainer. She yawned loudly, stretching her limbs and rolling herself off the bed, still half-asleep. Luckily, the floor broke her fall, jarring the remaining sleep from her system harshly. “Ah, here already…? That was quick,” the bluenette muttered, rubbing the fresh bump on her forehead. In reality, it had been a few days, but she, having eaten enough to make a football team sick before she left, slept like a Snorlax throughout the latter half of the entire trip.
Apparently that had been too long for her Pokemon, as she found her Pokeballs empty, save for Stanza’s. Looking around the small cabin that functioned as her temporary housing, the only Pokemon of hers still in the room were Hunter, her Blaziken, Sukeban, her Croagunk, and Octave, her Dragonair; Sukeban was simply meditating in her usual, squatting position, the sacs on her cheeks expanding and deflating rhythmically; Octave was curled up, sleeping rather peacefully. “Hey, you guys,” she said in greeting, lifting herself off the ground and cracking her neck as she began stretching, “where are the others?”
Hunter, who was leaning up against the wall coolly, pointed towards the door which, as if on cue, creaked open. Ramona watched as the montley crew of Pokemon trotted in: a Gallade, followed by a Munchlax, then a Charmander, a Braviary, and a Heracross carrying an enthusiastically cooing Togepi atop its singular horn. A smile broke across her face. ”Looks like the gang’s all here,” the bluenette said with a smile, returning her partners to their respective Pokeballs. She tucked them into her backpack, and began to pack her things.
Though the journey from Unova to Sinnoh was a long one –over 1000 miles over the course of a week, and on the fastest cruise liner she could find, no less- she had only packed essentials: a single spare outfit, her Pokeballs, a toothbrush, some toothpaste, her wallet, full of money, and snacks for herself and all her Pokemon. Once that simple task was over and done with, she hoisted backpack over her shoulder, and walked out into the open. The smell of fresh sea air entered her nostrils, and Ramona couldn’t help but smile widely; another region, another adventure. What would Sinnoh be like, she wondered. What sort of Pokemon would she encounter here?
Sauntering up to the railing, the teenager took her first look at Sinnoh: she had heard stories among the passengers about their destination, Sunyshore City. To make up for the shortage of land to spread horizontally, the inhabitants of the port city chose to build upwards. Solar panels were constructed to function as both energy collectors and suspended roads. Pure genius, really. That was what she had heard.
Looking upon it with her own eyes, however, was a completely different experience altogether.
The place was even more beautiful than she had imagined it to be. Seeing the high-rise roads in person almost brought her to tears in amazement. She’d never seen anything like it! Not even in Unova! So spectacular was the sight before her that she didn’t even notice that they had docked until she felt the push of the crowd behind her.
‘Whatever the case may be,’ the trainer thought confidently, hopping off the deck of the boat, much to everyone’s shock, and rolling once she hit the ground a few yards below, ‘Ramona Albarn is gonna be ready for it.’ And then, as she rose to her feet and took her first steps in the new region, she ran into someone.

TAGS ramona albarn WORDS 897 NOTES wasn't sure if we were going to have them know each other, so i just went with they do. if you want this to be their first meeting, i can re write the last bit... also, sorry for all the rambling. elinda cameo!
She hadn’t been in Sinnoh very long herself, and nor was she actually very familiar with anything about the region. All she really knew before arriving was that this was where Koa had grown up, and her new home region, for now. It was just a couple of weeks into her arrival and she’d already been married and travelled over most of the place to try and get more familiar with it. After a final visit to Sunyshore City, Ricki and Koa planned to make their way to Snowpoint, finally, where they’d settle down for a while. As of now, though, it was just a matter of getting ready for another long trip across Sinnoh.
With Koa having his own business to handle, patients to see, things to buy, money to earn, Ricki was left to entertain herself for the next couple of hours, which is exactly what she intended to do. With the unique pathways in Sunyshore, there was no way she could miss her chance to take advantage of the situation and ride her board along the pathways. With a harness on her Lucario, and a rope tied to it, Ricki held tightly to the rope, and got onto her board. A present from Koa when the two first started dating, Ricki had definitely worn the once fancy board down. From her various stunts, the bottom and sides had been rubbed raw, no longer shiny with its bright orange paint.
Not that she cared for that, as long as the board worked, it worked. So there she went, flying down the path ways and enjoying the stunning view that came with it. Her joyride didn’t last that long, though, since the pathways were quite populated. After a few complaints, she was forced to get off and shoulder her board once more. Not pleased with having her fun killed so quickly, though, Ricki had decided to buy her and Rep, her Lucario, a couple of treats. Getting ice cream, she bought Rep a few poke treats that he was happily eating at the moment.
As they walked and ate, Ricki mumbled complaints about being kicked off of the path way, but Rep wasn’t really listening to her. It was in the middle of her ranting that she suddenly heard her PokeGear going off. Handing off her ice cream to the Lucario to hold, she dug into her bag and began trying to find the blasted device. By the time she found it, the ringing had long since stopped and a voice mail had been left by the mystery caller. Well, it clearly wasn’t Koa who had called her, or her cousin Ryusuke for that matter. Humming in thought, the young woman looked over at Rep, only to see the other had eaten the ice cream cone while Ricki had been searching for her PokeGear.
“Rep!” she scolded, causing him to flinch and look at her baffled. It didn’t take him long to register what he’d done wrong, and all he could do was offer a nervous smile and offer of a PokeTreat. Staring for a moment, Ricki sighed and shook her head, putting her phone to her ear to listen to the message as she returned Rep to his pokeball. As the monotone voice of the machine rambled in her ear, Ricki continued to walk along the dock she’d come across, only to stop walking as she heard the voice of the mystery caller. Lord have mercy.
"Fine, fine. Hey, Ricki, I know this is your number! Call me back when you get the chance, I lost track of you after we'd gone to different regions!"
Staring at the PokeGear for a long moment, the young woman debated her options. Knowing Elinda, it didn’t matter at this point how Ricki responded, she’d track her down eventually. A shiver shot down her spine at the thought of dealing with her aunt, again. Koa had gone out of his way to avoid the woman after Ricki described her to him, and she couldn’t blame him. Any time Elinda was mentioned, Ricki’s husband was ready to get out of there ASAP. Standing still on the crowded dock, Ricki debated her options, but it was clear the only means of escaping Elinda now was probably death… Especially when Elinda would learn that Ricki had gotten married without the promised big ceremony.
In the midst of her inner turmoil, there was suddenly a bunch of shouts from above on a nearby boat, causing Ricki to turn and look. As she did, though, she ended up colliding with the center of current attention. Grunting at the collision, the green-haired woman stumbled back until she managed to get her footing. Upon doing so, she whirled around to yell at the person who had bumped into her, only to stop when she ended up seeing a rather familiar face. No way. “Ramona…?” she mumbled, and a quick scan revealed that this was indeed the very person she thought it was. “Well… Holy shit, this was not expected” Ricki announced with a laugh of disbelief. Grinning at the other, hoping Ramona had recognized her by now, though it was hard to forget someone with green hair. “Long time no see, Rama, how have you been?” she asked, putting away he PokeGear. Perfect, a distraction from the hell she was sure Elinda was to bring soon.

I'm gonna fight 'em off
A seven nation army couldn't hold me back
Ramona blinked at the abrupt collision with an object that suddenly decided to obstruct her path, her body leaning back a bit to compensate for the sudden loss of momentum. She should probably have looked where she was going, lest she run into someone else. Shaking her head to refocus her thoughts, the bluenette blinked and opened her mouth to apologize whoever she had run into. However, she was beat to the punch when the person muttered her name.
How did this person –a petite, fair-skinned woman with golden eyes, familiar green hair, and an angular face- know her name? Surely, she wasn’t that well known? Though there was something about the woman that struck a chord with her, as if her face was familiar. Had they met before…? If felt like it, but she couldn’t quite place a name with the face. Even as the woman laughed heartily and grinned at her, the Trainer’s mind worked to place where the two had met.
Then, as the woman called her continued, it hit her; there was only one person who called her “Rama” in the world… “Ricki!” Ramona exclaimed in recognition, snatching the smaller woman in a massive hug and lifting her off the ground. A massive smile adorned the Hoennian’s face. “I can’t believe it; I haven’t seen you in years, Ricki!” Placing her friend back down onto the ground, the bluenette couldn’t help but laugh heartily as her friend had done just moments ago.
“I’ve been great, actually. Just got here from Unova,” she said, patting her emerald-haired friend on the shoulder while raising her wrist to show off the Xtransceiver she had obtained during her journey to the urban region. “That place was certainly different from what I’m used to, but it was awesome.” And it was true; the technological mecca that was Unova provided a stark juxtaposition from her home region of Hoenn, which was largely rustic in nature. Though she wasn’t complaining; adaptive as she was, the bustle of the city quickly became a natural sound to her. Plus, she had gotten Jazz and Sukeban from Unova, both of whom she valued greatly. The workout equipment there was also some of the best she’d ever seen. It was no wonder Jazz had evolved so quickly.
“How have you been? You sure did change since last time. You grew your hair out so much I didn’t recognize you at first! What have you been up… to…?” the bombshell’s line of questions trailed off as tremors rocked her bag. Blinking in surprise, Ramona reached into her backpack and picked up the cause of the shaking, looking at it inquisitively. “…Hunter?” Without further notice, the Pokeball opened up, allowing her Blaziken to stand tall. The Blaze Pokemon crossed her arms and made a noise of recognition in Rep’s direction.
The teen smiled; she had almost forgotten the small rivalry her Blaziken and Ricki’s Lucario possessed. She must have felt his presence after all this time and wanted to see him again.
It appeared that Ricki didn’t have a face one could so easily memorize, apparently. After greeting her old friend, and rival, Ramona didn’t even recognize her at first, or not nearly as quickly as Ricki had recognized her. Maybe it was because the time between then and now that caused Ramona to not see who it was. Could it be the change in hair style or just a change in her style in general? Rather than Ricki’s old in your face bright colorful disaster of clothing she usually wore, she’d started to actually understand fashion a bit more. She’d grown her hair out, and was clearly starting to grow up at this point.
Finally, it seemed the nickname tipped Ramona off. With an excited yell of her nickname, Ricki found herself suddenly grabbed and swept off her feet by her old friend. Grunting at the action and losing the ability to breathe for a moment, she found herself suspended in mid-air for a moment, before being set down. Following the act, Ricki did a few little stretches and each move of her back was followed by a pop in thanks to Ramona’s bear hug. Turning a smile back to the other trainer, though, Ricki crossed her arms, not annoyed by the other’s enthusiasm. In fact, she seemed glad that the other was still pretty much her typical excitable self.
Listening closely to the other’s update on her own status, Ricki grinned at the sound of Unova. While she had plans to settle down in Sinnoh, that didn’t mean she didn’t have the desire to still travel the world. There was so much out there to see, she couldn’t wait for the chance to go and see it herself. The modern cities of Unova would probably remind her of her own childhood home. Unlike Ramona, Ricki had grown up in the cities, but over time she adjusted to be comfortable in both the city and the more rural life styles. She was ready to really go anywhere, but she just needed to stop and rest for a while before she did any of that.
Following Ramona’s information, the blue-haired girl rambled off a few questions before something seemed to distract her. Said distraction turning out to be the other’s Blaziken desire to escape from her pokeball, which she quickly did the moment Ramona held the pokeball up. With a chuckle from Ricki, the young woman recalled the Blaziken was yet another rival of her Lucario’s. Ricki pulled his pokeball from her belt, and let him out once more. The steel and fighting type Pokémon rolled his shoulders upon appearing, looking up at the blaze Pokémon with a noise of returned recognition.
“I’ve been well” Ricki finally addressed, slipping the pokeball back to her belt. “As of lately, I’ve just been travelling around Sinnoh with Koa. We’re planning to head to Snowpoint City next, since that’s where he grew up. We’ll be staying there for a while and figure out what we’re going to do after that” she explained, habitually fumbling a bit with the silver band on her finger that acted as her wedding band. She smiled down at it, eyeing it carefully, before looking back up at Ramona and quirking a brow. “What about you? Just traveling around Unova?” she asked, and noticed how the docks were slowly becoming crowded by the passengers of the ship Ramona had jumped from. Glancing back at Rep, the two nodded, before Ricki looked at Ramona and gestured for her to follow before she started walking to get out of the crowd.

I'm gonna fight 'em off
A seven nation army couldn't hold me back
It appeared that Ricki felt a change of venue was necessary, and Ramona agreed. With the steady stream of passengers exiting the boat, the dock was quickly becoming saturated with people. Ramona nodded, following the green-haired woman and her Lucario, Hunter walking beside her. “So, you’re travelling with Koa, huh? Then you two are still going out?” Ricki had introduced her to Koa, her boyfriend when last they met. A dark, handsome young man, Ramona would be the first to tell someone that those two made a great couple –especially since Koa acted as the more down-to-earth half of the duo, in contrast to Ricki’s impulsive behavior. The ego to her id, if you would. Last the bomshell had heard, he was still training to become a Pokedoctor; admirable profession aside, her friend probably needed someone to get her out of trouble and heal her wounds when she got in over her head.
Because Ramona really had room to talk to others about their recklessness.
So caught up with the reunion was the bluenette that she failed to notice the subtle movements Ricki made to touch her forefinger. “Well,” she began, recalling what had happened since their last encounter, “I’ve been training my butt off with my Pokemon for a rematch with you.” Their last battle had ended indecisively; both sides believed they had won, but neither wanted to call it a draw. It was a battle that Ramona had been anticipating for quite some time, were she honest. “I also caught a few more Pokemon, and tried wrecking the workout gyms a bit,” she continued, rubbing her nose in remembrance. Though she hadn’t really wrecked the gyms, she had certainly left a few of the machines in need of repair.
“Not to mention meeting some rather interesting people. I actually came to Sinnoh looking for someone I met in Unova.” She blinked, noticing they had long since departed from the docks. “Hey, where do you wanna go now? Pokemon Center?”

It didn't take much for Ramona to realize that the party was moving on. With a simple gesture and the blue haired woman was following her off of the docks and into the actual city. Ricki honestly had no idea where she was going, but anywhere that wasn't getting nearly as crowded as the docks would be good. So, she continued on, listening to Ramona inquire about her current relationship with Koa. It made her grin when the other asked if they were still dating. There was a yes and no answer to that very question. It was rather tempting to say no and lead the other on to believe the two were no longer dating, than just drop the bombshell of being married. Granted, no one else really knew that fact quite yet, though. If she made too big of a deal out of it, Ramona might blab to other people that the couple knew.
Koa didn't really have much family wise, as far as Ricki was aware, to be concerned about. Poor Richelle Inaku, on the other hand, had quite the large family waiting ever so impatiently for some sort of update about life from her. Should they learn that she got married without telling anyone, especially her cousin, her mother, or her dear 'aunt' Elinda, Ricki was sure she'd be doomed. So, when it came to Ramona's question, she wondered if there was a way to share the information in a way that the other might just forget about it entirely in a couple of hours... Listening to Ramona go on, though, it became clear that she would probably somehow remember and spill the beans eventually anyways. Not delaying much more, Ricki finally responded to the other's words.
“Yep, still traveling with him, and in a way, yes I am still dating him” she chuckled, grinning over at Ramona. She glanced down at her wedding ring, which was nothing extravagant, thanks to the low funds the couple had. “We actually got married recently” she confessed. A little grin formed after saying it, still feeling the ecstasy of just being married, saying it to someone else made her practically beam. Looking back up at Ramona, she tacked on “Don't tell anyone, though, because no one really knows... It was sort of a spur of the moment decision in Veilstone.” Another chuckle and she looked over at Rep, the Lucario, who merely rolled his eyes, shaking his head. He knew well how things would end up should Elinda of all people figure out Ricki's 'spur of the moment decision'.
Recalling the rest of what Ramona had said, Ricki noticed the other mentioning she wanted a rematch. With a laugh and another grin, Ricki joked “Of course, a meeting with you and not a single fight? Blasphemy!” Crossing her arms, she looked up in thought, debating where a good place might be for a battle between the young rivals. “I've caught some new Pokemon myself, and got lots of training in. Rep and I train pretty much every day” she explained, the Lucario giving a quiet bark to agree to the words. Ricki scoffed playfully at his bark and held out her fist for the Lucario to knock his own against her's. A smile was shared between the close duo, before Ricki looked back over at Ramona.
“Pokemon Center could work, unless you're hungry? You did just get off that ship, didn't you?” the green-haired woman questioned, tilting her head slightly. Scanning the place, she could clearly spot a few of the restaurants nearby, most of them being seafood given their close destination to the docks. “Looks like a lot of seafood places here, but I'm sure there's more diversity deeper into the city if you don't want any fried Corphish” Ricki explained as she looked back over at Ramoa with a curious look.

I'm gonna fight 'em off
A seven nation army couldn't hold me back
To say Ramona was shocked at her friend’s good news was like saying Snorlax moderately enjoyed napping. With a girlish squeal of elation that seemed so out of character for the tomboy, she swept Ricki up into a tight hug, giggling profusely as she began rocking from side to side, with the shorter woman in her steel grip. “Oh my goodness, Ricki~!” the bluenette exclaimed loudly in undiluted joy. “Congratulations~! I can’t believe you and Koa are like that now~!” Even with the warning in mind, the Hoenn native couldn’t stop herself from being overwhelmed by the over-the-top enthusiasm that flooded her very being immediately after hearing the news.
“Don’t worry, though, Ricki,” she whispered after placing the emerald-haired newly-wed down, “your secret’s safe with me!” However, this statement proved to be rather ineffective, as Ramona’s actions had drawn quite a bit of attention from passersby. Hunter sighed, running a clawed hand along her face in exasperation at her partner’s antics. However, it was clear that Ramona intended to keep her word; that was just the way she was, after all.
“That aside,” the blue bombshell continued after calming down, “It’s good to know that you’ve been training with Rep daily… after all, you’ll have needed to if you wanted to keep up with me and Hunter,” she finished with a smirk, crossing her arms under her chest, the Blaziken mirroring the action. The arrogance was entirely half-playful, of course. They say many a true word is spoken in jest, and this was no exception. Now that Ramona had met up with her rival finally, it was a perfect opportunity to see how much both of them had improved.
At the mention of food, though, her stomach announced its presence, rumbling for all to hear. It was only then that she remembered that she hadn’t eaten in days. “Actually, food sounds like a good idea,” the young woman admitted, rubbing her stomach with a sheepish look across her visage. “Let’s head over to get some, ah, dry food. As much as I love food, I’ve been on water for about a week… I dunno if I really want seafood right now.” She laughed sheepishly. “Let’s go get some food, then head over to the Pokemon Center, alright?” Then they could get that battle she had been jonesing for.
TAGS ramona albarn WORDS 1,033 NOTES elinda is going to haunt this poor woman for weeks.
After confessing to be married to Koa, Ramona tugged the unfortunate trainer into another suffocating hug, rocking her back and forth. With girlish squeals of delight, the tomboy temporarily gave into her feminine ways and got as excited as one might assume from a woman. Ricki was a bit caught off guard by the sudden excitement, if her face could make that anymore clear. Wide eyed and blinking a few times, before laughing a bit as the shock faded away, she stepped back quickly after she was set back down. Rep was grinning at his trainer’s misfortune, and said grin caused a glare to be shot his way. The Lucario merely looked off to the side with an innocent look.
With Ramona’s assurance that the secret was safe, Ricki didn’t feel very assured, honestly. Ramona meant well, she was sure, but the other was very excitable and it was apparent that the other wasn’t afraid to shout in joy about things. She could accidentally blab it in a fit of joy if she wasn’t careful. Ricki kind of regretted her confession, but it was nice to finally share the news with someone. Honestly, she wanted to declare the news to the world, but she knew many people would be upset with the way things works out, and crush her joy. She’d ride the high of being a newlywed for as long as she could.
Moving along, Rep’s training was brought up and Ricki couldn’t suppress a smirk. “Of course I’ve been training Rep daily, you think I’d cut back just because of a few life altering changes?” she joked, Rep mimicking his trainer’s smirk. Like Pokémon, like trainer, the two trainers had had an obvious influence over their partners if the similar stances had anything to be said about that. Rep looked ready for a go, but the subject of food over took the conversation and Ricki nodded in agreement.
“Dry food it is, I think I saw a fast food place somewhere around here” Ricki announced as she started onwards. As she started off, once more her PokeGear cried out for her attention, ringing to announce Ricki had a message. There was a sense of dread upon hearing that ring, though, and Ricki slowed to a stop to reluctantly pull her PokeGear from her pocket. She saw the number and frowned, just staring at the PokeGear in disdain. It was Elinda, again. Honestly, Ricki didn’t hate or dislike her distant aunt, honestly. If anything, Ricki admired the woman’s skills, and was grateful to her. Having seen Elinda when she was serious and not in the mood for crap, though, Ricki knew just what kind of hell she’d face if Elinda found out what she and Koa had done.
“Hold on, Ramona, I got a message” she grumbled, clearly not looking forward to what she was about to hear. Raising the gear up and hitting play, Ricki listened to a message that would be haunting her for weeks to come.
"Okay, come on. I know you got the last one, I know you read it and I know you're probably going to read this one, and I'll know when it happens. What gives, you haven't kept in touch since we'd last seen each other! You did get my message to your cousin, right? Keep it up and I'll just come see you in pers- wait, scratch that. Never did meet the reason you'd stayed with the team long as you did, I'll catch up within the next couple of weeks!~"
Ricki’s teeth gritted and she promptly slapped the palm of her hand to her forehead and cursed loudly. How could she have forgotten to introduce Koa to Elinda?! Great, so not only did she go and get eloped with him, she forgot to introduce him to pretty much everyone. Her mother didn’t even know the guy. A ramble of curses slipped out of her mouth as she turned her back to Ramona, Hunter, and Rep, and finally got to the task of daring to reply to the demon that would forever lurk in Ricki’s shadows.
“Okay, okay, I got your messages, sorry I just ran into an old friend and couldn’t reply. Yeah, I got the message to Ryusuke, I’m pretty sure he left before me. I don’t know where he headed off to; I can call him up about that later. So, uh… Yeah! I’ll introduce you to the reason later, gotta run, bye!” she promptly hung up and stared at her PokeGear for a long moment, praying to the Pokémon gods that that would satisfy Elinda for now. If anything, she looked like she was regretting ever getting the device in the first place. Once Ricki gathered herself, though, she took a deep breath and turned back to the others in her current party.
“Moving along” she announced and promptly started to walk onwards, Rep rolling his eyes before he followed her. Ricki lead the group to a small restaurant deeper into the city, away from the seafood places and with the dry foods Ramona had sought after. French fries, hot dogs, hamburgers, the place was a typical fast food joint that was sure to be greasy, but good as far as Ricki was concerned. She made her way up to the counter and made her order of a hamburger, large fries, and water, before she claimed one of the booths and awaited for Ramona to appear with what she knew was going to be a mountain of food.
Rep moved to sit beside her, seeming uninterested in the food she had. After the PokeTreats and ice cream he’d stolen from her, he was content for the time being. The Lucario merely crossed his legs and settled back on his seat in the booth beside his trainer. The black bits on the back of his head slowly rose up and stayed up as Rep’s eyes slid shut. He entered a meditating state and seemed to easily tune out everything around him, taking advantage of this time to train himself. The action caused a frustrated Ricki to give a small smile to herself for a moment.
