Once again, Zernebog couldn’t stop the smirk from emerging from his face when he saw the blasted light-bearing fish from the abyss finally go down with a decisive blow from a green beam that pulled instead of pushed. He couldn’t think of a better way (right now anyway) to beat the damn thing with flair than by knocking it out and robbing it of its remaining health at the same time.
The Gym Leader’s smile and words made his smirk even wider. ”We’ll see about that. Nereus still has a lot of fight left in him. He’ll kick the butt of that ace of yours no problem.”
After all, endurance tests were a thing in his training sessions. It was a necessity given the trouble that he often found himself in out in the wild. It was a fact that couldn’t be doubted after his run-in with all those crazy pokemon back in Sevii all those months ago, or the tower with the creepy mishmash pokemon, or even the maze of traps and people-eating. Actually, now that he thought about it… he still got into a lot of trouble even after getting out of Arcane. That was just ridiculous.
Of course, on the off-chance that he failed… well, he did have a back-up plan. Two of them, though he really didn’t want to have to resort to the third since he didn’t want to get banned from the Gym after beating it.
His train of thought was then interrupted when Misty released her ace. Somehow he wasn’t surprised to see a Starmie because they were some of the best Water-types that he’d had the fortune to meet. However, what really interrupted his thoughts was the bright flash that immediately followed its emergence, forcing him to flinch and cover his eyes with a gloved hand.
Still, being blinded didn’t stop him from hearing the command at all. ”Nereus! Blast away!”
”Nereus! Blast away!”
The eel, like his master, was also blinded by the flash, forcing it to close its eyes. However, it wasn’t as severe as it could have been because he had built up a few boosts to his accuracy earlier, so he didn’t panic. Instead, he opened his mouth and fired a blast of electricity blindly, sending himself backwards and the attack forwards… towards nothing.
Despite that, the attack did its work, enabling him to move away from the lethal field of bubbles that he couldn’t see. Nereus waited until the searing light faded from underneath his eyelids before opening them. Upon seeing the purple star with a red gem on its center , he immediately attacked it by sending out a fast beam of green light towards the Starmie.
Whether or not he missed, he would cut off the stream of green and switch to a large, diffuse stream of electricity towards the Starmie as well.
NOTES
Battle Summary - The Eelektrik is hit by Flash. Then he dodges Bubblebeam with Zap Cannon and then retaliates with Thunder Wave and Giga Drain. 86% (82.5 + 3.5 = 86%) Atk + 4, Def + 4, Acc + 3, Sp. Atk + 5 Zap Cannon, Giga Drain (75 base power; absorbs half the damage inflicted), Thunder Wave (Guaranteed paralysis if it hits)
Misty's Starmie wasn't going to to let the blinding light let its guard down. Even with the trainer and eel reeling from the flash, there was still a chance of something bad occurring... and so it did, with another powerful burst of electricity zooming out and about to spurt the little electric type further away. Misty knew that tidbit already, though - the damn thing was mobile and accurate, like a portable electric sniper rifle.
It was just a matter of messing up the scope.
"Starmie, spin!" The star-shaped Pokemon let out a sound as it gyrated, moving to the left in a tornado spin that made its movements hard to track given its clear lack of head or leading features - the Rapid Spin attack worked to help it dodge the green beam of nastiness, as well as the potentially disastrous Thunder Wave. Not a second later, before the spin ended, the Starmie let out another unexpected Flash attack - the core gem growing blindingly bright, like staring into the sun. The solar flare of energy should buy them enough time for another attack...
OOC NOTE:: Uses Rapid Spin to dodge both attacks, and then uses Flash again.

Nereus had a bad feeling on where this battle was going to go – another attrition battle. It was starting to drive him nuts! This was the final stretch already and the damn thing still won’t give up! All he needed was to knock it out and he would have beaten Achilles’ and Hydros’ soloing gym records. He had to build up better power and accuracy to finally catch that thing and nuke it to oblivion, and there was only one way to do it.
Coiling. He coiled himself up, tucking himself in and strengthening his muscles as he prepared himself to assault the stupid Starmie. In the process, he managed to avoid the Flash that the Starmie unexpectedly unleashed though he didn’t know it.
Still blissfully unaware that he had avoided a bright flash, Nereus uncoiled and promptly lunged at the Starmie with a Crunch, hoping to take a huge chunk of the starfish in his teeth. Whether or not he failed, Nereus would immediately follow up with another Thunder Wave aimed right at the Starmie, hoping that his increased accuracy would be enough to finally hit and paralyze the thing, enabling him to land a solid hit or at least catch up to the thing.
NOTES
Battle Summary - The Eelektrik avoid Flash with Coil. While coiled, he uses Thunder Wave, then uncoils and uses Giga Drain. 86% (82.5 + 3.5 = 86%) Atk + 5, Def + 5, Acc + 4, Sp. Atk + 5 Coil, Crunch (80 base power), Thunder Wave (guaranteed paralysis if it hits)

"Well aren't you just the difficult little tyke?"
With a smile still present on her features, Misty was trying to think of a way for her Starmie to get the upper hand in this fight. Sure, it was a losing battle since her opponent had yet to use another of his pokemon yet, but it was a battle she'd continue to the very end. She'd be dammed if she'd let surge laugh at her for this at the next Gym leader meeting.
With nothing else up her sleeve, Misty ordered her Starmie to simply "Dodge!" The pokemon acting quickly, her rapid spin allowing her to spin right around the electric type pokemon, hovering behind it in midair having successfully dodged it's two primary attempts to cause it harm. Of course, with the pokemon's back to it, he couldn't just stop there, and unleashed a powerful burst of bubble beam from the tip of one of his points.
OOC NOTE:: Hey there, Yumi stepping in. Used rapid spin to dodge, then bubble beam from behind

Dodge.
Given how mobile Starmie were, Zernebog had already anticipated the fact that the blasted purple star was going to dodge. He also anticipated the counterattack that the star was going to send Nereus’ way. However, what he didn’t take into account was how slow Nereus was compared to the Starmie. With the Lanturn, Nereus had still been fast enough to react and dodge, but with the Starmie… Zernebog didn’t even have enough time to say a word before the eel was blindsided by the stream of bubbles in the back.
Damn it. So the Starmie knew how to play hardball, huh? Nereus may be on his third fight, but Zernebog still knew how to play hardball with a pokemon that was becoming tired. ”Paralyze it now!”
Despite the pain, Nereus’ body sparked for a moment before releasing a wave of electricity that was channeled through the bubbles in an attempt to hit the Starmie while it was still using Bubble Beam. Why did it know it was Bubble Beam? Because other water-type moves didn’t make that popping sound, of course!
However, Nereus didn’t have time to dwell on that. ”Now follow up and crush it!”
As soon as the stream had ended, Nereus would immediately turn around and fire off a stream of electricity in beam form like a highly-accurate laser pistol by using his tail, aiming to hit the Starmie right at the center with a fast and strong hit. Whether or not it failed, Nereus would then follow it up right afterwards with a green beam of energy from his mouth that he wanted to use to suck up all the energy the Starmie had in one go by aiming his strike right at it.
Hopefully this would work, because this was starting to get draggy… on both sides, no less.
NOTES
Battle Summary - The Eelektrik is hit by Bubble beam. He then channels a Thunder Wave through the Bubble Beam in an attempt to hit the Starmie, then follows it up by assaulting the Starmie with Charge Beam and Giga Drain. 51% Speed lower roll failed: 17/100 Charge beam roll success: 26/100 Atk + 5, Def + 5, Acc + 4, Sp. Atk + 6
Misty should have known that there was little she could do. She had bought as much time as humanly possible, but in the end, it was going to be stuck this way - the electricity zipped through her aquatic bubbles, hammering into her Starmie and cutting her speed immensively. Even worse, this killed her ability to reliably dodge. "Rapid Spin, quick!" the redhead ordered, and Starmie was halfway into a rotation when a discharge of static covered the body, circling around the gemstone. Misty knew what was coming next, as would her challenger and the eel; a free hit.
So the Giga Drain and Charge Beam combination landed home on the immobile Pokemon, filling it with electricity and then draining it of all stamina. The Starmie spun in the remainder of the Rapid Spin before slowly sinking towards the pool, the gemstone cracked and without light. With an audible ugh of disgust, Misty returned her Starmie. It was to be expected after this guy had his electric-type boost to the very limits. Her own star Pokemon was unable to keep up once it had been set up from the start.
". . . well, I can't fault you for the win. You came in prepared." She let out a sigh and swept back her sea-salt stained hair, and gave the challenger a half-hearted smile. "You earned the Cascade Badge, fair and square. But don't think I'm letting you off this easy!"
As Misty approached, she withdrew a teardrop-shaped badge of the clearest blue, extending it out for Zernebog to take. "Now that you've beaten me, I expect you to do the same to the rest of the League! If not, I'll have to come after you and win back my own badge!"
OOC NOTE:: Hit by Thunder Wave; Paralyzed on attempt to use Rapid Spin, then hit by both attacks. KO.
