HORDAL.03
///Into the Grid
///Into the Grid
Hordal is a minigame created by Souryaku, SolidSnake08, Art, and Maelysknight based off of Horde Mode from Gears of War and Zombies from Call of Duty.
After one successful test run of the first version and a dead thread after everyone lost interest due to it being played on an RP board, and a second attempt using an improved way of keeping track of characters, I've landed on the third version which utilizes improvements from both updates as well as one key factor that was missing from the original game. Part of what made Zombies and Horde Mode so fun and addicting was the fact that you could quickly just pick up and go, whereas Hordal was played on a board. The IC box fixes such problem, as IC RPs can be set up rather quickly.
The gist of Hordal is to survive wave after wave of enemies by helping your teammates... or not helping them. Bonuses and upgrades can be found along the way to help you, as well as powerups that temporarily give you a major boost to your skills.
Transition to a Pokemon world variant was a relatively easy shift, the game itself is a game to the characters participating. They and their Pokemon are scanned and 'digitized' into a grid, or map, and depending on the map and difficulty, will have to face off against hordes of enemy Pokemon. A character may use their current team, or they may use fully evolved forms of their team, however it will cost them points in the long run.
Each participant starts off with one Pokemon, and upon reaching a certain amount of points, acquiring a specific upgrade, or reaching a certain level, will be allowed to bring in a second Pokemon if they wish. Refusing the backup, however, will increase the capabilities and power of their only Pokemon in play.
Maps can be decided from a preset list, or can be requested by the participants. All maps follow a specific type scheme, much like how a volcanic field would consist of ground, fire, steel types, and dragon types at higher levels. In a single match, if a trainer should take three hits, or their Pokemon 'faint', they will be eliminated from the current wave, losing all their accumulated points of that wave and respawn at full power at the start of the next wave. Should all participants be eliminated, the match is over. A match is as many rounds as the participants wish, and a round is ten waves. Each wave, the Pokemon spawned will be decided by the maps type scheme, number of current players, decided level of difficulty, and the RNG. Boss Pokemon may be spawned at higher difficulties.
Power-ups and upgrades are a key part of Hordal, just as much as points are. Upgrades can be bought between rounds, consisting of single wave skill enhancements like speed or attack boosts, or upgrades more expensive like the Backup upgrade, allowing either the overall enhancement of your current Pokemon, or the ability to bring in a second Pokemon for the current round. Points are accumulated by how well and how poorly you do in each wave, and at the end of each round can be traded in for upgrades at the shop.
Power-ups are a whole different ballpark. If you're really in a bind and everyone is having trouble staying alive, one of the enemies may suddenly drop an item that fully heals and empowers everyone instantly, providing that needed boost to finish the wave. Power-ups are random drops decided by RNG that can do things like aid you and your team, hinder the opponent, or even superpower you and your Pokemon temporarily.
All of this may seem like a lot to keep track of, but the Goodshow (most likely me until I can put together a chart on how to do it or y'all figure something out) will keep track of all information on a file, which can then be posted here if wanted.
One last thing. Most of what is here can be changed to make it better. The first time this is played will more or less be a test run to see how everyone likes the system. If there is a part that nobody likes, it can be removed or changed to something more preferable. Tell me what y'all think.
