MY SONGS KNOW WHAT YOU DID IN THE DARK
SO LIGHT 'EM UP UP UP I'M ON FIRE
The sun beat down warmly from above, as a breeze sent dust and dirt flying across the rough, sandy terrain. Adrian was once again out exploring the wilds that lay beyond his Flash City home. Weekends were a luxury, and he spent them as far away from Flash City as he could. Away from blinding lights.
The irony never ceased to amaze him, really. Everyone thought those big entertainment loving cities were some sort of amazing paradise of fun and exciting living. Nobody saw places like those for what they really were, not until they were already in and swallowed whole. Getting out as it turned out, was about as hard as getting in. As dull and unfulfilling as burger flipping was, it was all he could really do to supply enough money to keep himself fed at the moment. He just needed to accumulate enough to live off of for a little while, then find some other job some place else.
For now though, he could only remain patient. Money would come eventually, and for now it didn't mean he couldn't keep at this whole pokemon training thing. First though, he would need some actual pokemon to train, and thus why he had ventured out into the wilds once more. While his previous excursion had him falling into some cave out here, he hadn't had much luck in finding much pokemon. Just a pair of diglett and carbink each, though at least he was able to make some money pawning off some of them to other trainers.
Today though, he hoped to find something out here worth keeping. He wasn't sure what really, about all the pokemon he could imagine himself training, either were too rare to hope to ever find out here, or otherwise didn't add much variety to his team. Sandiles, Skarmories, Houndours, even a Scraggy would be pretty cool to train, but all were types covered by his current bunch. What did a guy have to do for some variety? Adrian stopped, setting his foot down on a rock that was jutting out of the ground. He didn't have much of an idea of what he wanted right now, but there had to be something out here.

MY SONGS KNOW WHAT YOU DID IN THE DARK
SO LIGHT 'EM UP UP UP I'M ON FIRE
As if prompted by some unseen cue, a patch of ground nearby began to crumble and stir. Dust stirred up as claws dug upward, flailing towards the sky before a head broke the surface and the smooth tan form of a sandshrew appeared. It glanced around sniffing the air before it's gaze fell curiously on Adrian, who returned it's stare with disappointment.
Adrian supposed that if he at least knew that he didn't have much need for ground types, that he would have chosen to search somewhere that wasn't known to be inhabited mostly by them. That was his bad. Not that he didn't like sandshrew. They were pretty cool themselves, and evolved into sandslash which was was even cooler. Why were all the best pokemon all the same types? Most of what he thought of, were ground, dark and steel types, all of which were covered by his Trapinch and Pawniard.
Shrugging, Adrian continued onward, walking right past the shrew pokemon, Adrian continued onward over the sandy terrain. The scenery was about the same everywhere, mostly dry, only tiny patches of barely thriving vegetation. It wasn't even the nicest kinda place to be hanging around. As he walked, half his mind remained on his plans for his team. Though his preferences seemed to focus on the few specific types he already had, variety was what he needed. Variety would give him a good balance, or at least he thought so.
What kind of types though? Water seemed like something good to have, but which one? A Gyarados would be sick to have on his team, but training a pathetic little magikarp was daunting. What other water types were there? Kindra... Well Phoenix would be a dragon eventually. Lapras? Kinda cool, but not very mobile on land. Totodile... Well those were pretty rare. Adrian scratched his head as he continued to walk. It wasn't easy to think up on the spot. It didn't help that this wasn't very inspiring territory to be thinking up possible water types.

Good Arceus, why was it so hard to think up a good water type? Maybe it would be something to think about later, when he was actually near water. Whatever he did think of, would obviously be irrelevant in a place like this anyway. He knew the weather had been pretty crazy recently, but even that seemed to be steadily slowing down as of recently. It wasn't like it was going to start raining magikarp or anything.
Suddenly, a loud strange cry cut through the silence, and Adrian barely had a chance to start running as a psychic blast hit the ground where he was not two seconds before. Alarmed, Adrian only spared the briefest of glances over his shoulder to see the strangest looking flying somethingorother soaring in his direction. "HEY WHAT DID I DO TO YOU!" Adrian yelled at the thing. What the heck was it even?
Unfortunately, the thing, which was a Sigilyph, didn't appear to care about what Adrian had or hadn't done. He had wandered too close to it's territory, and now it saw fit to punish the tresspasser. With it's speed, it easily caught up and intercepted the human, and sent another psychic attack in his direction.
Adrian was fumbling with the pokeballs that were clipped to his belt. It obviously was a flying type, and also that definitely looked like a psychic type attack. He didn't have much on him that could deal with a flying type, but Rook seemed like his best bet. Finally finding the Pawniard's ball, he threw it right at the Sigilyph at the same time it fired it's psychic attack. "NIGHT SLASH NIGHT SLASH NIGHT SLASH THAT THING!" Adrian yelled as the Pawniard was released. The dark type flew threw the attack unphased, flailing his claws at the Sigilyph.
The sigilyph was definitely not expecting anything, especially not a pokemon to come barreling through his attack, and it had no time to dodge either, taking the super effective night slash attack directly across it's torso, making him fall fast to the ground. The attack stung painfully, but it only fueled the psychic bird's fury. Acknowledging that the Pawniard would be pointless to attack when it's only offensive move would have no effect, it kept it's attention on the human instead, flapping it's wings to regain some air, while sending another psychic attack at it.
Adrian ran for his ever loving life, while Rook launched himself at the sigilyph, trusting Adrian to get out of the way while he jumped up at the Sigilyph and aimed another night slash at it. This time though, it managed to fly out of the way, avoiding his attack. "Pfft. Stay still freak!" The Pawniard hissed. His face then suddenly began to glow with a menacing glare that was fixed upon the Sigilyph, and it staggered in the air as it's movement faltered as it slowed down.
With the sigilyph's altitude falling, Rook jumped up at it again, slashing away with another Night Slash attack. The strange bird-esque pokemon couldn't dodge, but this time it managed to get a reflective barrier up, which only partly dulled the otherwise harsh, super effective blow. Adrian meanwhile, managed to avoid not to get hit by the previous psychic attack, though he kept a fair distance from the fight.
It became too clear however, that there was no hope of winning this battle. He didn't have any moves that could so much as dent that little metal knight. Losing his speed only made it worse, and this time he turned to try and retreat. Adrian blinked. It was retreating, no it was getting away. "HEY WHAT ARE YOU DOING? YOU SCARED? WHAT ARE YOU, THE CHICKEN POKEMON! COME BACK HERE AND FIGHT!" Adrian taunted, suddenly feeling more brave as the tables seemed to have turned.
If the sigilyph had a little more sense than pride, he might have just kept going. However, the guardian pokemon could not ignore the human's taunting and screeched back furiously and it turned around, spitting another psychic attack towards Adrian, though it fell short of it's mark and landed uselessly on the ground infront of the human instead. The Sigilyph flew back towards the human, and as it did so, Rook charged forth, waving his sword like claws in a rhythmic fashion -- swords dance. He then jumped off a rock landing on top of the Sigilyph, and drove a claw straight into the sigilyph's wing joint.
The Sigilyph screeched in agony as the attack, though still softened by reflect, did critical and super effective damage. The bird fell to the ground, injured, but conscious. Rook held on as they landed, and then just to be sure, he have it another good blow to the head (was that a head?) with his claw and the Sigilyph fell motionless underneath him.
Adrian ran up to the unconscious bird, with an empty poke ball in hand which he promptly threw at the Sigilyph. No way he was letting that thing get away after such a fight, even if it probably wasn't something he'd keep. Who knows, maybe that psychic chick would buy it off him like she did that one Carbink. It'd probably interest her at least, while he himself was satisfied to simply give it the ol' one-two.

The monotone sound that the ball emitted upon capture always brought a great deal of satisfaction to Adrian. It meant success, and it meant a new friend, or sales merchandise to be pawned off to someone else who would call it a friend, big diff. Whatever the case, he had a new pokemon. "Another battle well founght, ehh Rook?" Adrian said cheerily as he scooped up the wierd bird thing pokemon's ball off the ground.
The Pawniard scraped it's claws together, before fist pumping one to Adrian's praise. A victory was a victory, though he did feel ridiculous celebrating over one so simple. That Sigilyph had little hope of doing much of anything to him. It was only a good thing Adrian had mostly been able to keep out of it's way. "You alright?" The pawniard tilted it's head.
Adrian was rubbing his side. All that frantic running had caused a bit of a cramp in his side to form. He looked down at Rook as it spoke to him, but he could only tilt his head as he couldn't think of what it was trying to say. "I think I am just going to rest here for a second." Adrian said, plopping down onto the sandy ground to give himself a moment for the cramp to fade.
Rook tilted his head as well, but shrugged it off. He seemed fine enough at least. Hopefully no more of those pokemon showed up though. "Shouldn't we keep moving? What if more of those things show up?" Sure, if it came to that he'd probably stand a good chance of dealing with them, but whatever the case, they could still hurt Adrian, especially when he was just sitting in the middle of nowhere like this.
Adrian just shrugged at Rook, gathering that he was worried about something at least. "We'll be fine, bud. We'll get moving in a minute." He assured the pawn, who finally gave up and just stood there, keeping an eye out for any more wild pokemon that might pop up.

Wind blew dust and dirt around them, and Adrian had to squint to keep all the grit from blowing in his eyes. Perhaps it would have been more prudent to slide his goggles down over his eyes, but Adrian didn't care so much to do so for a little bit of dust. What kind of wimp was he to need protection from a little dust?
Fortunately, the wind would die down, and the air would clear quick enough with no damage done. "I guess we should get going. Now where are all the wild pokemon in this place at?" Adrian asked to no one in particular as he looked around. Beside him, Rook made a clicking noise, as he tugged on Adrian's jacket as he got up and pointed at something that was skipping about across the rocky ground.
Adrian shifted his gaze to it. "A bonsly." A suspiciously plant like pokemon that was actually a rock type. He didn't have any rock types himself, but a bonsly... It didn't suit his style. Those things were just weird, and even their evolutions were weird. Heck, it was a baby pokemon. He couldn't even think of fighting it just for the sake of experience. How nasty that be? "Let's keep going. We'll find something out here." Adrian said, and began walking again.
Rook was a bit disappointed, but he followed without complaint. He supposed picking a fight with a baby pokemon wouldn't be any more satisfying than beating up that Sigilyph had been. Whatever they found next, he hoped it would at least be something that could offer him a challenge. All these simple battles were boring the little pawniard pretty fast.
