MY SONGS KNOW WHAT YOU DID IN THE DARK
SO LIGHT 'EM UP UP UP I'M ON FIRE
"SWEET NATURAL DAYLIGHT!" The loud, ruckus call rang across the rough terrain, as Adrian stood on a rock, arms outstretched to the sky. A wild helioptile who had been hiding under a scruffy looking bush was startled by this and bolted from it's hiding spot and quickly retreated in the opposite direction.
Adrian spotted the electric type and he grabbed a poke ball from his belt, not even caring which one, and threw it out. "Go after it! Quick!" Adrian yelled, as the ball burst open, unleashing... Phoenix, his Trapinch. Alright, type advantage! Adrian thought, giving a satisfied fist pump. "Hurry! Phoenix, you can catch it!" Adrian shouted, jumping off the rock to chase after the pokemon himself.
Phoenix caught sight of the pokemon and at first began running after it. Unfortunately though, his stubby little legs weren't really built for running. Adrian's encouraging attitude aside, the Helioptile was long gone before he even had a chance to clear a few meters of distance. Snapping his jaws in frustration, he stopped and turned to his trainer with an apologetic look in his eye.
Adrian stopped a few meters ahead of his Trapinch, skidding to a stop and landing on his knees. "Dang! A Helioptile would have been awesome to catch. Oh well." Adrian shrugged the failure off and walked back up to his Trapinch, who was looking pretty glum. His grin didn't waiver at the little bug. "Hey, cheer up! We'll find another!" Adrian said, crouching down and patting the bug on the head. "One day you'll evolve into a flygon, and then no pokemon will get away from you!"
Phoenix blinked gratefully at Adrian, and his apologetic glance quickly turned to a smile. Adrian grinned back and pulled himself back up to his full height. "Now, onward! There's bound to be something out here to find." Adrian said optimistically as he continued to walk along the rough, dry terrain. As he went Phoenix followed along, scruffing around curiously at every little thing. It didn't seem like there were a whole lot of pokemon in this area but the Trapinch knew there was something to be found.
Sure enough, the bug soon found something, and began scraping wildly at the ground, clicking excitedly. "Find something there 'nix?" Adrian said, pausing in his walk as he noticed his pokemon had begun digging. Unexpectedly however, as the Trapinch dug, the ground beneath them suddenly gave way. Adrian was able to back out to a safe area, but Phoenix fell downward, hitting the bottom of the small cave below. "Phoenix?" Adrian yelped.
Without a second's further hesitation, Adrian jumped down into the tunnel. A bit unsteady on the landing, he went straight to the dirt pile his pokemon had disappeared under and frantically began digging. After a few seconds, he reached for one of his other pokemon, but before he could even enlarge Rook's poke ball, the loose dirt began to shift and the Trapinch emerged, with little more than a few bumps from ordeal. "Phoenix! You had me worried for a sec!" Adrian said gleefully, hugging the Trapinch.
With that particular crisis averted, he now had a chance to look around at their surroundings. They appeared to be in some sort of underground tunnel. Paths deeper into the tunnels went in two directions, though both seemed to curve down. Above, the edges of the newly formed hole, were narrow. It seemed whatever formed this tunnel had skirted pretty close to the surface. "You know, if you'd evolve right now, it'd probably save us a whole lot of trouble." Adrian said laughing uneasily. The hole was pretty high up, they wouldn't be climbing out of it any time soon.
With nothing else to for it, Adrian pulled his bag off his back, and pulled a flashlight out from it. At the very least, he was smart enough not to leave town without some basic survival supplies, though because he got stuck in a cave, was not really near the top of reasons he had imagined he'd need it. "I guess we're exploring." Adrian said, picking a direction at random and heading down the path, walking deeper into the tunnel.

Phoenix blinked. They were going into the cave? He looked up at the hole above them. Okay, they weren't climbing out of here, but Adrian did have Caspian. They could just teleport out. Easily. The Trapinch made a few clicking noises to try and get his trainer's attention, but the young man was already making headway and Phoenix had to run to catch up before he ran out of sight.
"There you are... Now what do you suppose is down here?" Adrian asked as the trapinch caught up to him. Phoenix just clicked uncertainly in response, and Adrian took it to mean that his trapinch doubted it. "Oh come on, be positive. Who knows, maybe there's a legendary pokemon down here? Heheh." Adrian laughed at the thought.
Phoenix however, didn't think it was that funny. A legendary pokemon? Like... Legendary? If they found one down here, Phoenix was pretty sure they'd be dead. Before he could chitter angrily in response, something suddenly popped out of the ground in front of him and the Trapinch jumped fifty feet, figuritively speaking. The Trapinch clicked wildly at the offender, more angry that he had been startled so easily, than anything else.
"Eh? What do we... A diglett." Adrian said as he looked down at his furiously chittering Trapinch who was getting pretty upset at the wild pokemon. "Come on 'Nix, chill." Adrian said, though it was clear the bug was clearly miffed, while the Diglett just stood there, looking rather puzzled by the Trapinch's reaction and cautiously backing away.
Adrian scratched his head. "Maybe it could dig us a hole out of here?" Adrian thought outloud, though he imagined convincing it would probably require a capture. He already had a go-to ground type, and catching another, especially when he didn't have much of a collection to begin with, didn't seem like a great idea right now. "Well, I suppose battle practice is always good. Phoenix? Care to fight?" Adrian asked.
Phoenix jumped back a safe distance, clicking angrily at the Diglett, who seemed to understand what was coming after what the human said. Phoenix's mouth gaped open, and spit a purple goo at her, and she instantly dove underground, avoiding the attack. "That was quick, be careful Phoenix!" Adrian said as the Trapinch shuffled around, knowing the Diglett would likely pop out right underneath him at any moment. After a few seconds though the ground indeed began to shake, and though Phoenix did try to get out of the way, the diglett shot up fast, launching him into the air.
"Earth power now Phoenix!" Adrian instructed, and Phoenix twisted in the air, aiming his head straight to the ground as he slammed straight into it. The ground split where he made contact, making a beeline to where the Diglett stood, blasting it with rocks and energy from the ground. "Diiii!" The Diglett cried out as she was hit with the attack.
Adrian grinned. "Great Phoenix! Keep it up! Try another toxic!" Adrian ordered, and Phoenix, spat up another splash of poisonous goo. This time though, the diglett responded with Mud Slap, spitting a splash of mud, which collided with the toxic spew blocking the move entirely. It then charged rapidly toward Phoenix, using it's bulldoze move. This time, Phoenix rolled to the side just before the attack hit, and then spun around, spitting another volley of toxic goo at it.
The Diglett couldn't avoid it this time, and found herself coated in the poisonous goop. "Diiii..." The Diglett groaned, feeling the dangerous effects of the poison. Still, it seemed to not want to go down easily, as she charged once again at Phoenix, sending the trapinch flying into the side of the cave.
"Get up! You have it on the ropes! Earth Power!" Adrian said, urging the Trapinch to continue. Phoenix indeed pulled himself up and again he slammed his head down to the ground, sending another shockwave through the ground. Diglett attempted to dig down again, but was too slow, and took a hard blow. It staggered upward, looking pretty worse for wear. "Give up yet?" Adrian jeered, and a furious gleam shone in the diglett's eyes.
The diglett once again dived underground, and the earth began shaking furiously as it began to split from the place where the Diglett had disappeared, steadily making it's way toward Phoenix. The Trapinch immediately ran for it, while Adrian backed into the wall away from the sluggishly moving, but still devastatingly powerful attack. Shitshitshitplease don't make the tunnel cave Adrian thought as fear shot through him. "Phoenix, try Earth Power or Rock Slide or anything! Stop that Diglett!" Adrian shouted after the Trapinch.
Phoenix wasn't a very fast pokemon to be sure, but at least he was faster than that fissure attack. As Adrian called out to him though, he realized more had to be done than just run, or else Adrian would be buried alive, along with Caspian and Rook too. Spinning around, he summoned several rocks, and launched them into the splitting crevasse that was gutting the tunnel floor. "Diiiiiig..." The diglett's cry could be heard from below, as the fissure attack ceased and the ground stopped shaking.
"Great! Great work Phoenix!" Adrian praised the Trapinch, happy that not only did they not just get buried alive there, but also won. True enough, they hadn't really been doing a whole lot of training before, but Phoenix still proved to be rather sharp anyway, and once they did work on their training Adrian was sure he'd only get way better. "I suppose we can continue?" Adrian suggested.
Phoenix, though a bit roughed up himself from the whole deal, still managed to look very pleased with himself. When Adrian suggested continuing, he nodded. Though a bit tired, he wasn't prepared to show it just yet. The Trapinch ran forward, and the two of them pressed deeper into the tunnel, with Adrian's flashlight lighting the path ahead of them.
As they walked along, Adrian had to wonder why a cave would have curved up so close to the surface, without breaking through. It has been strangely stormy lately. Adrian mused. Perhaps all the rain had worn away the earth between the surface and the cave, and finally gave out when Phoenix began digging around at just the right spot? Adrian didn't really know. He hardly even knew what they'd be finding down here, if they'd even find anything at all.
Just when Adrian began to doubt that they would find anything interesting however, the walls of the tunnel suddenly opened up to a new passage, which looked far less natural than the tunnel they had been digging through. "Whoa." Was all Adrian could get out. What was this, some sort of underground ruin? Pillars, ornately carved walls... It was pretty cool looking actually. "Now there has to be something here. Come on Phoenix, let's get looking!" He said as he proceeded into the ruin.

This place looked old, but Adrian supposed that was a given. New places didn't usually get 'ruined' or whatever. Nor were new places usually built underground. Unless somebody had a real messed up idea of where to build things and had lousy building skills to match. "I wonder if we'd get some kind of special reward for discovering this place? It looks like nobody's even been here before." Adrian mused, half-seriously.
Phoenix chittered doubtfully. If anything, some scientist would swoop in on the find, and if Adrian was lucky the newspapers would give a brief mention to the amateur trainer who stumbled upon the ancient ruins of whatever this place was. "You could sound a little more excited, you know." Adrian teased the Trapinch, misreading the bug's intents.
Climbing over a fallen column, Adrian made his way over to some sort of hollow in side of one wall. There were hollows all across the wall at regular intervals, filled with all sorts of old, dusty things. Adrian reached out to grab a dusty vase, only for the thing to disintegrate into a pile dust upon contact. "Okay, this stuff is really old... Or it's just a crappy vase." Adrian said, chuckling uneasily. He just destroyed a museum piece didn't he? Oops.
Before he could move on though, a glint of light among the pile of dust and fragments caught Adrian's eye. "Is this a marble?" Adrian questioned as he snatched the item out of the pile and blew the dust off of it. It was yellow, with a bit of pink and blue in there as well. It was also pretty shiny. "I guess it could be a neat souvenir... Or neh." Adrian said, chucking the marble over his shoulder. There had to be something here better than marbles.
Dig Dig Dig . . . What's this?! Congratulations, You've found a RELIC BAND! A bracelet made in a civilization about 3,000 years ago. A maniac will buy it for a high price.

Phoenix's gaze followed the arc of the marble as Adrian threw it away. It landed into a pile of rubble behind them, where neither of them were likely to retreive it again too easily. He could only trust Adrian's judgement that it was worthless, and he followed his trainer as he moved towards another one of the gaps in the wall. On the way though, he hissed slightly as he set his leg down awkwardly, setting off pain from the blows he took battling that diglett previously.
"Phoenix? You okay?" Adrian asked, his attention immediately shifting to the Trapinch, who was testing his footing carefully. He supposed the bug had begun to feel the extent of the previous battle. He held his own pretty good, but he certainly hadn't come out of it painlessly. He plucked another poke ball off his belt. "Caspian, mind healing Phoenix?" He said, releasing the Ralts.
Caspian nodded upon being released, and hopped right up to the Trapinch, raising his hands so they were only a few inches from the bug. "Raaaalllll" The Ralts hummed as his horn glowed. Waves of energy pulsed from the Ralts hands, and engulfed Phoenix. After a few moments, he stopped, and the Trapinch chittered gratefully at Caspian, who bowed graciously in response.
"All better, or good enough I take? Good." Adrian said, patting both pokemon on the head before turning back to the gap in the wall. There was much of the same. Old crap that looked too fragile to touch. This time though, Adrian's gaze fell on a rustic looking bracelet. "Now that's got to fetch a nice price. Definitely mine!" He said, gleefully taking the band and depositing it in his bag.
As much as he'd like to keep searching this place, Adrian didn't really bring a big enough rucksack to account for too much. He supposed he could come back again later if it pleased him. Looking to Caspian, he realized they already had the solution to their exit anyway. Duh, why did I forget I had a teleporting Ralts? He thought to himself. "Now Caspian would you mind teleporting us home?" Adrian requested.
"Ral? Raaalts" Ralts said, wearily. He just healed Phoenix, and was a little tired from that but he'd certainly try. Once Adrian and the Trapinch were grouped around him, he hummed as he summoned his psychic power. The area around them glowed for a moment, but moments later, the light diffused, while they all remained exactly where they were. "Rall..." Caspian sighed, before plopping down onto his butt.
Adrian frowned. "Tired? I guess so. Well, take a rest in your poke ball. We can try again later if we don't find another way out." Adrian assured the Ralts before returning him to his ball once more. After that, he simply sat down on a pillar. Perhaps they should make an immediate effort to find an alternative way out, but right now Adrian himself was feeling a bit tired. Time for a rest, and then they'd set out again.

For what did not feel like long enough, both Adrian and Phoenix just chillax'd in the middle of the ruins. It wasn't like the place was sacred to anything right? Just some dusty old ruins that may or may not have been beloved to some ancient, long dead civilization. Maybe it's decoratively carvedm fallen pillars deserved more respect than to be used as a simple bench, but Adrian wasn't known to be all that mindful of such things.
Of course though, there was always this one moment, where you are just beginning to relax, and that exact moment also tends to be the point where it's most likely that something will come along and disturb you. It was that moment now, and like it was just waiting for the right moment, a pokemon popped up out of the ground. "Diglett Dig!" The pokemon squeaked, quite chipperly.
Both Adrian and Phoenix looked at the thing. "Another one? Really?" Adrian pouted slightly. What exactly were the chances of finding two of the things? Did they just have a beef with him? "Come on now, shove along. We already beat up one of your buddies, don't make us beat you up too!" Adrian said, waving the Diglett away.
The Diglett blinked at the two intruders as the human tried to dismiss him. He beat up his... buddy? Well THAT could not be had. "Dig! Diglett dig!" It cried furiously, before diving underground again, only to pop up again with enough force to sucker punch straight through the fallen pillar Adrian was resting on.
Adrian, like the derp he was, thought it was over enough once the diglett vanished from sight. Unfortunately, though Phoenix's irate clicking did make him realize it might not be, he didn't react quickly enough before his resting spot was uncermoniously busted into pieces and Adrian fell among the shattered remains of it. "Alright, if that's how it's going to be, Phoenix! Show him how we roll!"
The Trapinch snapped his jaws threateningly at the Diglett, before slamming his head into the ground. Like before, the result was a shockewave that drove cracks into the ground that targeted the Diglett. The mole pokemon squealed harshly, though Phoenix wasn't done yet, following up with a toxic attack, which also hit the Diglett head on before it dove underground once again.
Adrian scrambled to his feet, shaking off debris and rubbing a particularly sore spot behind his shoulder. "Ouch. Dang, I hope that one doesn't know fissure like the last one..." Adrian said, not caring if he jinxed it or not. Sure enough, the ground suddenly began to shake violently, and the ground suddenly exploded beneath Phoenix, sending the bug flying upward.
Adrian dived rushed forward, catching the Trapinch in his arms. "Gotcha! Didn't think I'd let you hit the ground like that?" Adrian said, quickly setting the Trapinch down as the Diglett popped up again, looking pretty darn proud of itself, even as it twitched from the pain of the poison that was ailing him. "Now go wipe that smirk off his face... He is smirking. You'll just have to take my word for it." Adrian insisted, laughing a bit at his own joke.
No sooner had Phoenix been set down, did the Diglett charge forth. Magnitude 10, followed by a bulldoze. Trapinch threw himself to the side, and Adrian jumped away in the other direction, and the diglett sailed right between them. Phoenix then slammed the ground again, and by the time the diglett was able to stop and correct his course, he was struck by another Earth Power attack. Yeowch.
The diglett swayed on the spot, a little dazed from the assault, but quickly regained it's focus. It turned on the Trapinch. It was clearly the bigger threat, given the human hadn't really done much but get out of the way of it's attacks while the pokemon fought. Selfish creatures. It thought savagely, before spitting a volley of mud bombs at the Trapinch.
Phoenix backed away, but didn't move fast enough to avoid the rain of mud bombs on his position. He shook the muck off him frantically, then returned fire by gaping open his mouth and spraying the diglett with a sand attack. The Diglett responded with more mud bombs, and Phoenix followed suit by summoning forth a number of rocks and launching them at the Diglett.
Adrian meanwhile, kept clear of the fierce exchange, until finally it slowed as more rocks pounded the Diglett's position. It seemed too tired to move now. "You're not going to be disturbing us again. Poke ball!" He said, tossing a poke ball at the Diglett, which was promptly sucked in, with it's fate to be decided. Phoenix fell to the ground, tired himself, and would only be too happy to never see another diglett again.

Back and forth the ball rocked, and both Adrian and Phoenix stared the ball down, as if daring the Diglett to break free. After a few moments though, the ball fell still and it emitted a low tone, signifying the successful capture. "It knew what was good for it." Adrian said smugly as he snatched up the diglett's poke ball, attaching it to his belt to join the rest.
In the meantime, Phoenix just fell to the ground, exhausted and sore from the hard battle. Adrian turned to him, smiling. "You did good for your second battle of the day. Unfortunately, we're going to need Caspian to get his energy up to get us out of here, so a good long rest in your poke ball is going to have to do you." Adrian told the Trapinch as he pulled out his ball and returned him to it.
With yet another Diglett taken care of, Adrian figured it was about time to go looking for an alternative exit. With Phoenix out, and Caspian needing to reserve his strength to teleport them out of here, all that left was Rook and being a steel type, the Pawniard would have a really hard time if they ended up bumping into any more diglett, or any other ground type for that matter. That in mind, Adrian finally made his way back to the tunnel they had come out of, and continued down the passage, hoping that maybe it would curve upward toward the surface at some point.

SO LIGHT 'EM UP UP UP I'M ON FIRE
"Tunnel sector 12-3 to 12-4 clear. No intruders detected, tunnel integrity one-hundred percent." Came the chirp of a lone Carbink as it hovered through the tunnel. It was his turn to patrol today, but it was quiet. The only disturbance was from the occasional Diglett. The earth moles were a nuiscance, but attempts to eliminate them had caused a great deal of casualties to the colony and they were forced to leave them be. It however, didn't stop the Carbink from shooting a glare at them every time they popped out of the ground.
Otherwise though, the tunnels seemed peaceful. Too much so really, usually there was something to account for. Intruders were always digging their way into their tunnels. Mostly by accident, but still, they could not be here. It was the sacred grounds of the followers of the great diamond princess, and no intruder could be allowed to disgrace them with their filthy presence. Except begrudgingly, those infernally persistant Diglett.
Then all of a sudden, as the path curved upward, light could be seen shining ahead, glaringly obvious within the dark tunnel. The Carbink squinted, then jumped up in panic as he recognized the anomoly and charged ahead. At the appex of the tunnel's arc, a gap had opened up to the surface. This wasn't right at all. "Alert! Alert! Sacred tunnels compromised! Alert!" The Carbink squeaked, though why it even bothered speaking when no others were around to hear it, was a mystery unknown to all but this Carbink.
However, there was no sign of the defiler in the immediate vicinity. Did one of those heathen Diglett do this? The thought certainly crossed the Carbink's mind, but as it examined the area, it discovered footprints. Diglett didn't leave foot prints. It was someone else, perhaps a surface dweller. They had to be located immediately! With that, Carbink shot further down the tunnel, passing over a deep crack in the floor at one point. "Tunnel damage in sector 12-6! Sector 12-6!" The Carbink cried out furiously as it flew past the scene. That was definitely a diglett. Stupid diglett!
Past where the tunnel intersected with an old ruin, the Carbink could see light glowing ahead. This was it. "Interloper! Defiler! Begone or be eliminated!" The Carbink cried, summoning a volley of rocks which surrounded the tall spikey maned creature, whom barely had a chance to turn it's light source on it.
Adrian had only been minding his own business as he walked through the tunnels when he heard the incessant, yet unintelligable cries of a pokemon behind him. He spun around, only to have a bunch of rocks thrown around him, though they failed to actually do anything. "Stealth rock? Well fine, if you're looking for a fight." He smirked as he grabbed Rook's ball, and sent out the Pawniard. "Alright Rook, Swords Dance and Metal Claw."
Rook appeared on the field, but before he could even carry out any of his trainer's commands, the stealth rocks suddenly lifted, and moved in on the pawniard, briefly crushing it. "Ouch!" The Pawniard cried. Well, that was a nasty way to start! People thought dark types like himself were sneaky! By the time he recovered from the blow, the Carbink was preparing it's next attack, this time firing off it's Moonblast attack.
Rook raised his claws shielding his face from the attack, but was sent flying backward. Adrian himself had to duck to the side to avoid having the steel type collide with him, but once it was over, Rook at least had managed to stay on his feet. Not wasting another precious second, the Pawniard charged forth, florishing his claws like swords, increasing his attack power, he soon reached the Carbink and from there he raised his claws whiched hardened like metal before striking at the Carbink.
The Carbink was only just fast enough to bring up it's reflect move, creating a barrier between them. Unfortunately, it didn't help as much as the attack still broke through with little effort, the blow being only slightly less devastating as the Carbink was still sent flying backwards from the force of the blow. "Steel-type detected. Adjusting tactics." The Carbink squeaked, before firing off another Moonblast. Alright, it wasn't really much of a change in tactics, but what else could a pokemon do with only one offensive attack available to it?
Rook this time was able to sidestep the moonblast attack, and once again charged forward. Metal claw was doing him pretty good. Rock types were weak to it, Fairy types were weak to it, and this thing was both. Not even it's barrier would do it much good. "Keep up that metal claw Rook, you have this!" Adrian cheered on the Pawniard as he once again caught up to the Carbink and slashed away with his metal claw attack.
It didn't take long for the Carbink to realize it was outmatched, but it had to protect the tunnels, it had a duty to the colony! A duty to his mistress! The Pawniard was relentless unfortunately, and though the Carbink would make to flee, the Pawniard did not allow it, and struck it down with one more sword dance-powered metal claw attack, after which it fell to the ground, and only stirred meekly, too weak to even pick itself up.
"Nice job Rookie." Adrian said with a satisfied smirk as he came up and patted the Pawniard on the head. He then turned to face the Carbink. A rock fairy. Well, it could be good to somebody right? Snatching an empty poke ball from his bag, he tossed it at the Carbink and awaited to see if it would be captured or not.

One shake, two shake, three shake, success! The Carbink was captured. Probably not something he'd personally used, but it was pretty, and there were always people in the world who'd pay for pretty things, especially pokemon who could be troublesome to catch. He was sure it'd be worth something to somebody.
Snatching up the Carbink's poke ball, he clipped it with the rest of his pokemon, then looked around to re-establish his barrings. He had walked a fair distance downward, and the tunnel didn't show any signs that it'd start going up again any time soon. There weren't even any branching paths yet, which while making the walk very simple, it didn't make him any more optimistic about finding an exit. "Looks like Caspian may be our only way out after all, Rook." Adrian said.
Rook blinked. Wait, we're lost? The Pawniard just nodded in agreement, given he wasn't really that familiar with how they got in this situation, since he had been in his ball this whole time. He couldn't feel too disappointed though, not so soon after his victory against that Carbink. The thing hardly got much of a dent in on him to boot, so there was still that to feel good about.
"Alright, back the other way then." Adrian said, turning to head back the way he came, leaving the Pawniard out of his ball in case they were jumped again. Hopefully by now the Ralts had enough rest to at least be able to get them out of the hole they had fallen in from.
