Bosky Hamlet, so far Emyr liked it well enough. The sheer, rural feel to the area had been a bit of a shock to his city-boy system, but, he found that watching the landscape run a gradual shift from streamlined roads to rolling, grassy hills as he grew nearer to the city was a relaxing sight. The air was crisp with a sort of distinct freshness that came from so many green things pouring oxygen from their leaves and it filled his veins with a sense of calm. To boot, weather was perfect, the sun shone a gentle warmth, and he happily noted a wide variety of Pokemon chittering and peeking from a nearby bush or tree. Nice, definitely.
With the dark haired trainer's arrival to the city surrounded by farmland, he reasoned that every new place was just a check off the list of "to visit", if anything, and the venue being nice was an added bonus. Wattz and Lux had also seemed perfectly content to walk alongside Emyr for more time than was usual, alternating between running all about and clambering up onto their trainer's shoulders for a perch, once he got himself set up in a place to stay and made the decision to head outdoors once again. However, he stopped to do with his time. Not many sightseeing locations lined up... without an avid interest in grain refineries, so, what?
Emyr found that no answers were prompt in presenting themselves and a frown tightened the corners of his lips. The diminutive electric types hopping about around his feet had apparently noticed the human's stalling, and two pairs of curious eyes turned upwards to face him. "Sorry, guys. I'm just at a bit of a loss here, no idea what a good use of our time would be," Emyr had no idea whether his Pokemon partners understood a lick of English or not (he started up one-way conversations with them all the time), but Lux began to wave her tiny paws at him with cheeks puffing out as if impatient. Little princess got bored at the drop of a hat. "Okay okay don't give me that look. ...how about we try exploring some?"
The sight of electricity crackling about Lux's cheeks and Wattz's bright "--xioooooo!" might have convinced the hugest of skeptics that these two were bilingual. A laugh tumbled from Emyr's throat at that and he shook his head, shaggy hair shifting, and the decision was made. The trio had gone spelunking through a few places outside of the cities they visited, even battled some of the wild inhabitants and found cool trinkets, but Emyr was suddenly acutely aware of the clack of unused Pokeballs where they lay at the bottom of his pack. Hm.
battle START!! Wild Swirlix used Play Rough; intercepted by Wattz.
Wattz used Leer! Lux used Thunder Shock! Wild Swirlix was hit.
Wild Swirlix used Fairy Wind; Wattz and Lux were blown back.
Lux used Thunder Wave. Wild Swirlix was Paralyzed!
Lux used Thunder Shock! Wattz used Discharge! Swirlix used Play Rough! Varying hits to all parties.
Oh! It's so, pink.
Emyr stopped in his tracks as a fluffy puff of a Pokemon came bouncing into view around the corner up ahead. Many of the city's animal inhabitants peered at the trio of trainer and partners from private corners as they passed, not approaching, but this one seemed happy enough to take up a place right in their path. It was such a funny looking thing with feet that tucked up to make its body look like a balloon without a string each time it jumped upwards buoyantly, not even mentioning its round, pink rimmed eyes and that kind of sort of adorable tongue-- "Swiiiiiirrr!"
Was that a battle cry? It must have been, because no sooner than had the warbling sound been issued did the Swirlix spring towards Emyr with cottony fluff puffed to its maximum. A rosy glow that trailed a collection of tiny hearts and stars cloaked the Pokemon as it charged towards the paralyzed human, the picture of feral wrath, but, before Emyr could even yelp, Wattz launched himself at the attacker in a blur of turquoise. The trainer caught a glimpse of miniature fangs before his faithful Shinx caught the Swirlix by one foot and dragged it down to ground, Lux's furious squeaks now audible to his right.
There was a sudden push of sparkling wind that dislodged Wattz's grip on his target but, having been standing there in stunned silence, Emyr took the moment to compose himself enough to respond. He gave his head a vigorous shake. "Hey-- guys I need you to," His words fumbled un-eloquently at first. "Gah. Wattz, Leer! Then Lux, get it with a Thundershock from behind!"
Wild sparks had begun to crackle along Wattz's fur as he glowered at the Swirlix, which returned the look with a tongue-lolling snarl that was a strange cross between unnerving and ridiculous. Still, the Shinx obeyed by focusing the stare into one that held his opponent in place with the ferocity packed into gleaming irises. The Swirlix quavered for precious moments, sticky curls of fur deflating, and in that time Lux pounced to deliver a shock straight through her forepaws in one quick dose. There was an answering cry as the attack rippled damage through the Swirlix's small body but it would be over the frizz and jolt soon if Emyr didn't follow up the combination.
"Okay. Okay, then, ahh, Lux, paralyze it. Wattz you be ready to hold it in place if it runs and use Discharge afterward!" Emyr received affirmative tail flicks and ear twitches before his partners launched into fulfilling the orders and the trainer was left to fumble for his next objective. Pokeball, Pokeball, where was the damn-- got one. The cool, smooth material of the capsule felt like a blessing meeting his fingertips and he yanked it free from his pack, nearly spilling it in the process, before a button press had it enlarging to full size within the tight confines of his hand. He regarded the ball for a moment through rectangular glasses, fingers of his other hand flexing with uncertainty, but a shriek brought him snapping back to attention. The Swirlix had slammed bodily into Wattz with a direct Play Rough and the teen's precious partner winced as he drew himself back onto his feet, teeth bared mutinously. The Swirlix itself looked battered and singed in many places, curly fur visibly quivering, and it collapsed under another electricity charged pounce from Lux.
Emyr's hand suddenly felt very clammy where it clung onto the Pokeball. Don't miss don't miss don't miss, his thoughts repeated in a fervent mantra and the trainer drew his arm back, grunting as he lobbed the bicolored ball straight for his target. It hit, bounced as if on springs off of the Swirlix, and opened to draw the Pokemon in in the form of watery red light.
Once, twice, thrice the Pokeball twitched where it lay on the concrete before… click! It was such a quiet, unassuming sound, but any trainer worth their salt knew it as only one thing. The sound of sweet success.
Emyr stood with arm extended out from his body, frozen in the action of the throw from the second ball had left his fingertips, but the reality of it all seemed to dawn on him at once and, suddenly, a grin of near impossible width bloomed. The expression was bright with joy (would probably be radiating sunshine and rainbows were this a cartoon) and Emyr tucked his hands into fists before swinging both arms over his head in an enthused ”a-ha!”. Yes, victory. The curve warped reflection of his grinning face was shown to the dark haired trainer as he gently picked up the Pokeball, examining it with smile softening to a purely happy quirk, and, regardless of whether this spelled a valuable addition to his team or not, he’d done it. Caught his first wild Pokemon. Just spelling that out in the private silence of his mind brought a renewed thrill of excitement to tingle through his veins.
”A Swirlix, huh?" Emyr mused out loud and lowered his eyes to Wattz and Lux as the two electric types drew over with chests puffed, proud at their accomplishment. Emyr grinned anew. ”You guys were amazing, really. I don’t think I’m actually going to use this little guy, cute as the cotton candy fur is, but, honestly. Thanks. Especially for that save, Wattz,” He continued, referencing the Play Rough he’d nearly taken to the face earlier. In response, the Shinx gave a trilling purr and bumped his small head against Emyr’s shin just as Lux scooted in to sit on his other foot. ”Are you both… okay, though? I get if you feel a bit too, uh, sticky or--””Shiiixxx?! Piiiii!” Wow okay, that was a definite negative. Or, positive. Okay whatever bottom line was that Emyr’s partners were currently giving him stares of mixed offense and indignation that had him quickly backpedaling away from the suggestion.
”Jeez fine I’m sorry for checking up on you two. We’ll keep looking around, okay?” Two nods of the affirmative were all he got before both Wattz and Lux padded away from his feet to continue down the street they were on. The idea of encountering another Pokemon, to battle and maybe try once more at catching, was suddenly a very attractive one and Emyr followed after his Pokemon once he gave an exasperated puff of breath, though secretly excited to continue. A Swirlix wasn’t the greatest fit for his team, unfortunately, but he was sure that a potential new partner could be lurking nearby. Electric types were always awesome, but his thoughts wandered to consider what other species made their homes in cities. Steel types, some of those that strangely resembled objects, maybe a Pidove or Meowth. What was the name of that blobby psychic type? Sol-something. Whichever would appear next, Emyr was sure to keep his eyes open a tad more in preparation.
No sooner than had a few minutes passed, another Pokemon appeared to the trio. At the first flicker of movement to his left Emyr's icy blue eyes blew wide and he turned sharply (there's actually been one or two false alarms in that short time, too) which prompted Lux and Wattz to bristle their fur and go on the ready. Rather than meet another assault, however, the curiously shaped Pokemon floated out and began to hover in a slow orbit around them. Gear shaped, made up of two identical parts, and with the strangest expression of permanent surprise on each of the "heads" which interlocked in continuous rotation even as the thing moved. What was it called again. Uhh.
Clink, clink, clink went the metallic gear bits as they knocked together. Oh, right, a Klink. Emyr was momentarily caught by fascination, simply watching the Pokemon which also seemed to be watching them (not that curiosity could really be conveyed on a frozen face). "Chuuu?" Lux squeaked quietly up at her trainer, looking cautious as her large brown eyes flickered intermittently between Emyr and the new arrival. The apprehension was understandable, of course, since their last encounter had quite quickly broken out into an all out battle. But this little guy wasn't showing any hostility. It only continued to go around and around and around the trio in leisurely, carefully distanced circled, so the dark haired teen reigned in his starry-eyed stare to give the Pichu a re-assuring smile. "No worries, Lux. I don't think this guy wants anything to do with a fight." The staring and circling could potentially get creepy after a while, but definitely no hostility there.
"I... think we've been standing around for long enough though, right? Right. Let's, keep moving," Emyr ushered his Pokemon partners down the street once more while throwing a last glance to the Klink. Once the subjects of its stare had moved out from the circle it had continued to orbit around empty space, once or twice, but now had stopped to hover in place a few feet above the concrete with gears clinking away. Emyr flashed it a nervous half-grin and hurried the group along. Yeah. Kind of creepy.

Wattz used Discharge! Wild Voltorb was hit.
Overall, Emyr was really enjoying the stroll about Bosky Hamlet. The fresh air of the surrounding fields and forests permeated even the inner city, a distinct difference from his memories of both Lumiose and Tynntill, and the style of the buildings made for quaint sightseeing. Heck, the bed and breakfast he'd settled into was adorable. Emyr just knew that he'd be taking another outing come tomorrow to tour around the park they'd passed, maybe even look into the new research facility with all its clean, reflective lines, but even wandering without any distinctive landmarks to tour was keeping him well occupied. Lux and Wattz seemed to be enjoying themselves, as well, if the pep in their steps was any indication.
They decided to take a quick break on a street corner, directly across from a fruit stand boasting an assortment of vivd fruits and berries, where Emyr sat back on an empty crate to sip some water and watch the clouds roll by above. Lux had crawled onto the trainer's lap for a scratch behind the ears and the dark haired teen's eyes wandered before settling with a dubious blink on something laying to the right of the crate. Was that... a pokeball? Question marks practically hovered and popped about Emyr's head as he stared, brows drawing into a furrow, and he gently herded Lux off his lap to scoot back onto his feet.
"What..?" He spoke aloud, further examining the bicolored sphere that gleamed in the afternoon sunshine. Wasn't it, a bit big to be a pokeball? The coloring was right (and he assumed he'd find a button on the side faced away from him), so, of course, one pale hand began to reach out en route to prod the mystery ball. One foot, a handfull of inches, closer and closer... "Shinx!!" Wattz practically screeched an alarm call and made to fling himself right at the crouched trainer's face, knocking him back on his ass right as a Sonic Boom went out in a destructive pulse. It felt like a smack in the face, even with Wattz acting as a furry buffer, and Emyr ended up sprawling backwards so that his back impacted solidly with a nearby wall. As a result, the air rushed out of his lungs as if squeezed out by a massive hand gripping them and Emyr's head swam, woozily, before he refocused on what was now a pokeball with eyes. Eyes slanted in a hostile glare in the dazed trainer's direction.
Emyr's mouth opened to call for Lux, but the Pichu was already up and moving to land a smooch on the Voltorb's rounded side. Sweet Kiss began to take its hold on the bicolored Pokemon, making it wobble to and fro, and Emyr scrambled to his feet in the precious few seconds bought by the Voltorb crashing itself into the wall and crate before it could clear the confusion. "Thanks... again, Wattz. Use Crunch, and add some poison to your teeth!" The Shinx snarled his understanding before leaping forwards to barrel rush his opponent, the swirl of confusion clearing from the Voltorb's eyes just as a Wattz's jaws snapped down with a sickly purple coating each fang. "And Lux, use Nasty Plot!"
An electrically buzzing, rage filled cry rang out in response, the Voltorb loosing another pulse of air that sent Wattz skidding away before erecting a shimmering wall as Lux began charging in to take her partner's place. Emyr had always found it a tad unnerving to think of the mechanics of Nasty Plot (and the borderline evil gleam in Lux's chocolate brown eyes didn't help much) but now it was acutely useful as he shouted out the next order. "Thunder Shock!" Luminous electricity lanced off of her small, mousey frame towards the Voltorb and, despite the type disadvantage, Emyr could tell that it hurt. It must have been a Barrier that the pokeball Pokemon had used, useless against a special attack.
Now the wild Pokemon was fully lucid, but quavering under the dual blow of Toxic and and bolstered Thunder Shock as Wattz and Lux stood by to watch their opponent with intent gazes until Emyr gave another order. Valiantly, the Voltorb began rolling a high speed Tackle right for Lux. "Use Baby Doll Eyes, quick! And chase it down, Wattz!" He could see the Pichu's muscles as they tensed, urged to leap out of the way, but she obediently flashed those heartbreaking eyes and the Voltorb's velocity slowed considerably before impact. Lux went onto her back with a high, squealing shriek but ended up holding the thing on her belly just as Wattz jumped in with a Dishcharge crackling his fur.
Emyr's attention had strayed just after calling the last order, and, similarly to before, he dug hastily into his pack to fish out a Pokeball. An actual Pokeball. Really, the size of the thing currently bearing down on his partners should have been enough of an indication that it wasn't."Where are you stupid things-- ha!" Finally. Emyr pulled one free and immediately lobbed it forwards... probably not the best decision not to have aimed first.
The Pokeball flew through the air with a spin, looking as if it would fly clear over the Voltorb, but Lux had gotten back onto her feet and snapped her gaze onto the incoming projectile. Reading her trainer's intention easily enough, the Pichu leaped upwards and corkscrewed, bringing her small, L-shaped tail around to slap the pokeball down where it smacked solidly onto the center of their quarry's head.
Two for two! Emyr gave a celebratory jump, arms lifting in a wordless cheer, and his partners quickly seemed to gather themselves enough to hop around and prod the now still pokeball where it lay. He took the few steps needed to cross the distance, stoop down, and grab the ball before straightening up to examine it with a thoughtful light beginning to swirl with the pleased glint already present in his eyes. A Voltorb, huh. It was somewhat odd to think of a Pokemon so close in resemblance to a pokeball actually encapsulated in one (little bit of Pokeception going on), and, after briefly entertaining this thought, Emyr's mind moved on to consider where the successful capture spelled a permanent, new addition to his team.
Hm... a sound "maybe". An electric type, always awesome, but one that had a notorious habit of exploding or zapping humans on contact? Eh, less so. Whether the conclusion would be a "yes" or "no" didn't put a damper on the happiness welling in Emyr's chest once again, however, and he tucked the pokeball away along with Swirlix's. "Two. Two. Can you guys believe it?" He questioned both Wattz and Lux once this was done and the two small electric types chirruped their enthusiasm. Emyr grinned once again.
"Two... Hah. But you both have to be getting a little tired by now-- and no buts,"He added with that scowl/pout forming as Wattz opened his mouth for some sort of protest. Lux just folded her tiny arms. "We'll start heading back to the hotel."
Wattz gave a vague grunt at that, begrudgingly accepting the words, and Emyr shook his head in exasperation so that his wavy locks shifted about, looking tousled. Without another word, the trainer took it upon himself to stoop down and scoop up the Shinx, who wriggled in his grip, and fixed a pointed stare at Lux. Climb on or get grabbed, was the very clear message, and the Pichu puffed out her cheeks mutinously before clambering up her trainer's leg all the way to where she could perch on his left shoulder. By that point, Wattz had given up and tucked himself into a displeased ball in the cradle of Emyr's arms, the human himself humming brightly as he walked.
