APPEARANCE

Standing at an acceptable 5"9 inches, Ryuzaki is a tall, muscular, young man with short black hair, fair skin (because no matter what he does, he cannot stay strictly tan. Either he doesn't get any colour at all, or he returns looking more akin to a lobster than a human), and bright blue eyes. Generally speaking, he retains a serious facial expression and never seems to show much emotion of any kind. His school garb consists of a white shirt, light brown trousers, green necktie, blue sneakers, and a dark grey blazer. 

Ryuzaki's casual attire is just that; casual. He really doesn't care how others see him, and will wear pretty much whatever happens to be clean (the smell test is perfectly valid, thank you very much). Truthfully, he's most comfortable in a simple v-neck, faded jeans, and sneakers. 

PERSONALITY

As a child, Ryuzaki had trouble interacting with others at a fundamental level and became highly emotional whenever someone criticized or spoke negatively about him. Even now, he still experiences moments of emotional vulnerability and can be overly sentimental when it comes to criticism. Ryuzaki is also incredibly stubborn; if he's not interested in something, he simply won't do it.

He's that one guy who sticks up for anyone and everyone, even if he has no idea who they are. In his eyes, everyone should be treated equally. He doesn't care if he ends up with a black eye. If he was able to help, he did what he was supposed to do.

Surprisingly, Ryuzaki has a pretty decent sense of humour. Sure, most of his jokes are corny as hell, but he does find creative ways to be funny and witty, even when it's not necessarily needed. With that said, there are some things that take a little bit longer to sink in. Romantic feelings, for example, are a prime example of this as he is still getting a handle on his own sexuality and where he stands with such emotions.

Family has always been important to Ryuzaki, especially where his younger sisters are concerned, and he will go to any length in order to protect them. In the aftermath of his father's death, Ryuzaki became the glue that kept them all together. His compassion coupled with strong sense of righteousness have always been there to guide him even in the darkest of hours.

Ryuzaki was born eldest of three to parents Mei Ishida and James Fairbanks. He grew up in the harbour of Port Haven, a tiny seaside community located just north of the Sevii Islands. Ryuzaki's father was a fisherman who dedicated his life to the sea. His mother, Mei, was a kind young woman who'd come from the Mainland. After falling in love with James, she gave up the city life and eloped with him to Port Haven. 

Fascinated by his father, whom he idolized, Ryuzaki would often accompany him to the docks where he'd help cast fishing nets. After a nearly drowning at sea, his mother forbid him from visiting the harbour unaccompanied. Ironically, this separation from water would instil in Ryuzaki an even greater longing for the sea.

Tragically, James later drowned along with the rest of his crew when a typhoon hit off the south coast. As a result, Ryuzaki's younger sisters, Jessica and Rengei Ishida, have very few memories of their father and cannot even recall the sound of his voice. In an attempt to do the best she could for her children, Mei enrolled Ryuzaki and his sisters in an elite sports school, hoping a fresh start might help ease the pain of their father's death.

In many ways, Sootopolis City could not have been a better transition for the Ishida siblings. Not only was it surrounded by water (as Port Haven had been) the citizens were quick to accept them as locals, no questions asked. Academically, Ryuzaki did well. Good in the kitchen, he took a particular shine to culinary arts and successfully met the necessary class standards. In addition to being an excellent chef, he showed equal skill in visual arts. 

Ryuzaki later joined the Sootopolis Swim Club whereupon he met Koichi Akabane, a cheerful youth with big dreams, and although from two very different backgrounds, they quickly became close friends. In time, though, Ryuzaki grew restless. While he genuinely enjoyed the thrill that came with being a part of the swim team, he'd never thought to pursue it as a legitimate career choice. Although it pained him to do so, Ryuzaki chose to quit swimming entirely. Unfortunately, this decision would also destroy his longtime friendship with Koichi. 

Hurt by his friend's confession, Koichi lashed out against Ryuzaki, convinced he had given up on him. Having gone from well-liked and admired, to vehemently hated, Ryuzaki became a much quieter individual, prone to keeping his feelings bottled up. Although Koichi secretly felt terrible, he did nothing to ease the pain between them and eventually, they grew distant. This abrupt end to their friendship did not go without its fair share of casualties, and neither Ryuzaki nor Koichi would ever be quite the same again. 

Despite unresolved tension between himself and Koichi, Ryuzaki graduated with above average grades. Looking to further his artistic and culinary skills, he said goodbye to Hoenn and packed his bags for the distant region of Nue.

OOC Note: Okay, so I talked with Murdoc in the chat and I swear; THIS IS MY LAST CHARACTER APPLICATION. Yes, I am very aware of the fact that I've archived two characters in the last several months. You're going to have to trust me on this one. Anyways, long story short, I couldn't just stand by and watch this amazeballs FC get claimed by someone else.

Finally, I currently have Gabe active again and threading with Andrea. Linden's Exhibition post is in the works, too, and I've already posted his reply to Julia. With that said, I'm perfectly okay with not having this character get accepted-- I just have this really unhealthy attraction to Haruka Nanase, and role playing as him would be pretty cool.
