HISTORY
Stephan was born and raised in Kalos with his parents and younger brother, Andre. Over the years, he came to have as much of a stable life as one could gain in the simple town life. Despite being branded an outcast by other boys for his feminine form and awkwardness, he did all he could to keep going with life. There were many days when Stephan felt alone, but he always had his family. Even better, he and Andre had their love of Pokemon. Over the years, they would study and obsess over the many different species, each of them sharing a scrapbook of their findings and their desire to become trainers. Through all the good and bad things that happened in their lives, Steph and Andre's relationship remained strong.
Unfortunately for them, however, things would take a turn for the tragic.
It was around Andre's eighth birthday when he and his big brother wandered about as they always did. They came across a trainer messing around with a Rhydon, probably a tourist. At first, it seemed like the typical order-barking one would expect, but something more darker was in play. The boy started kicking and hitting the poor Rhydon, even forcing some of his other Pokemon to attack him in some twisted training ritual. Steph's mind was screaming at him to step in, but Andre tugged at his shirt before he could move any closer. It was better to leave it be, he said to Stephan; some trainers just need to work themselves out.
The next few moments happened in a blur. The backs of the Labelle brothers were completely turned when that same Rhydon suddenly tackled them both onto a tree. Years of abuse has inevitably driven the hulking Pokemon into an uncontrollable rage, and with his trainer fleeing in terror, they were the only two living targets left. Stephan did his best to protect himself and his sibling, but the Rhydon's attacks were unrelenting. Even worse, Andre took most of the damage.
All Stephan could remember afterwards was himself on the ground, holding onto Andre for dear life. They were both covered in bruises, cuts and bloodstains. He eventually fell out of consciousness, wondering if this was the end...
Their parents eventually managed to find them with the help of a search party. The air was heavy with dread when the brothers were treated on in a nearby hospital. Stephan was lucky to get away with a broken arm and sprained legs, but Andre would never be able to walk again. It enough of a strain upon the family's heart, but there was no doubt that Stephan took it the hardest. Even after he was checked out, he would spend days visiting his injured brother as he rested. The guilt over Andre, the cruelty of that nameless trainer, the pained expressions on that Rhydon's face...it was all too much.
Stephan no longer wanted any part of being a trainer.
This had lead to a time where Stephan would barely even move, let alone speak to others. His reluctance to become a trainer and support battling led to a lot of bullying from his peers. Stephan’s body was pretty much on autopilot, spiraling down with no real direction. On the inside, his mind is still reeling from the loss of the one person that ever put their trust in him.It was ripping him apart from within, but all he could do was try and move on. His parents did eventually nudge him into looking up the Kalos League again, but something different got his attention; the life of a Pokemon Ranger.
In years time, with a spark of interest, Stephan was on his way to become a ranger himself.
He started off doing small missions, mostly involving caring after other Pokemon and keeping the peace within their natural habitats. His training and experiences allowed him to become closer to nature like never before, something that came to reignite his passion for Pokemon. Stephan had a particular interest in rescuing abused Pokemon, often abandoned by their reckless caretakers. Through his efforts, he had a hand in repairing their broken lives and taking them to loving families. Some of these rescues would even become a part of Stephan's ranger team.
One particular case was a Pancham named Shizuka. His former trainer has obsessed with winning battles and pushing her Pokemon beyond the edge, and the Pancham made for a perfect punching bag. Steph could still remember when he had to confront them both, much like how he should've done so for Andre and the Rhydon years ago. Shizuka was covered in scratches and tied to a tree as his trainer abandoned him to fail and scream out in pain. Stephan untied the creature and offered his hand in friendship, only to get beaten to the ground and bitten repeatedly on his left shoulder as he fought through the pain and hugged him. Shizuka had a lot of hate and rage in his heart, and Steph didn't blame him, but he wasn't going to give up on the Pancham's recovery just yet.
Bonnie and Siggly, two other rescues under rehabilitation who joined Stephan's team, had already taken down Shizuka's trainer by the time they all regrouped. Stephan's team was a well-oiled machine in the making, free from the shackles of a Pokeball and free to come and go as they please. He knew that Shizuka would be a difficult case, but he wanted to take it upon himself to find the fire in the Pancham's eyes and drive his pain and anger into something more productive than mindless fighting. Stephan would eventually tie a red cloak around Shizuka to appoint him as leader, bringing them even closer as partners. Of course, this would be considered an unorthodox choice, but the ranger wanted to challenge Shizuka to keep a cool head and put his trust in himself and the team when the situation calls for it.
It was eventually decided that Stephan would transfer to the Nue region to register in their league continue his journey as a ranger. He agreed on the condition that Andre would be able to travel and live with him. It was hard to say goodbye to their family and home, but a fresh start was the thing Stephan truly needed. He had his team, a new lease on life, and a goal he needed to seize. Stephan's life was only beginning.

Stephan's feet touched the cold ground of the lab facility as a metallic scent filled his nostrils. The coldness of the air around his skin made him tense, the rest of his senses preparing themselves. Bonnie followed along soon after, briefly nuzzling her partner's leg before huffing in preparation. So far, this mission has gone along as smoothly as expected; get in, get the Intel on the rogue scientists experimenting on Pokemon, and deal out some long-needed justice. Getting to the isolated island proved very easy, although the ranger could've done without laying still within a tightly spaced helicopter for hours on end. Nonetheless, he was in, and he had plenty of work to do.
Stephan's every moment was calculated and delicate. His team had studied the ship inside and out beforehand, with Shizuka opting to scout ahead this time. Steph felt a sense of pride swelling up at the Pancham becoming more like the hero they both believed he could be. Approaching each corner, Stephan made short work of getting around the guards that were starting to fill the place. Some sneaking around here, a little bit of Bonnie working her Hypnosis there, and he was inching closer to his target. At this rate, he hopefully won't have to endanger anyone's lives.
The double doors at the end opened before the ranger and his Fennekin, giving way to the heart of the lab. Stephan's prize was laying in wait, a datapad hooked onto a large monitor. The hooded Shizuka was there too, smirking mischievously at a job well done. Stephan quickly went over to hug the Pancham, Bonnie nodding to Shizuka in approval. The ranger scooped up the pad and looked through it, the info matching what his superiors have said. Seem like another mission accomplished without a hitch.
It would've, but then a deafening alarm blared throughout the ship. Everyone's eyes wandered about as the lights in the room dimmed into a deep shade of red. Muffled sounds of raised voices and feet tapping metal grew louder, Stephan himself wanting to curse under his breath. An entire squad of guards and Pokemon entered through the doors, glaring at Stephan and his crew. So much for not doing bad.
With a sigh, Stephan placed the datapad into his pocket as he tapped onto his comm link. "Mission accomplished, team. We're going to have to catch up to you, though." The familiar growl of a Pancham ready to fight filled the room, Bonnie herself beginning to tense up as well. Steph himself simply scratched the back of his head and gave a softened smile.
"Can't imagine we can talk this out, can we?..."
