It was a few days after the little…interesting escapade she’d had with the Queens in Yellow and the Pink Disaster—and for some strange, unexplainable reason Rachel was out and about again; this time just to explore the Wilds. The last time, she hadn’t been able to go in as far as she would’ve liked, because of the above-mentioned instances she’d run into—if she didn’t have Sky on her, then she’d have been in a whole lot more trouble! I know Sunshine can’t do squat… only Sky can defend me from the horrors that wait out here… she mused to herself as she looked around the huge expanse of grass once more. I hope nothing of the ugly sort comes out of hiding and decides to surprise me again with the nasty. I don’t even want to tell Blondie about that pink thing with the tongue that can literally kill… she continued to herself, shivering slightly as she looked around—the better to make sure that there was nothing else around to follow her. “Alright, then. Time to get searching… for what? I don’t know,” she muttered to herself, only realizing a few seconds later that talking out loud was a pretty bad idea in general—in front of other people. At least out here, she could do things in peace, and she cracked a smirk; before squaring her shoulders and taking in several deep breaths to calm herself. “Let’s go, Elphie,” she continued to herself, finally relieved that speaking out loud—at least here—didn’t earn her the precursory glares and shocked stares. “Time to experience the Wilds first-hand.” Grasslands 1

Was it just her, or was there a certain feeling of déjà vu hanging in the air—because from what her ears could pick up… there was a distinct buzzing noise headed her way once again. Crossing her fingers mentally and hoping that it wasn’t the same thing as last time, she then ventured forward—only to find out that indeed, it was the same thing that she’d encountered the last time—only this horde seemed to have more members within it, as opposed to the last time. “Ugh, really?” she began, a frown of concern crossing her features, before bringing out her only solid fighter at the present time—watching as the burst of red light revealed itself to form one of her companions, Sky. “Ruff—RUFFLET?!” the avian let out upon seeing that his caretaker had gotten herself into trouble, yet again. “Y-yeah,” she began with a really sheepish look on her face. “Help?” The Rufflet could only shake its head in disapproval, before taking up the stance in front of her, before squawking his intentions of protecting her no matter what happened—and that infuriated the little “tribe” of Combee and Vespiquen. Well, it was just the Vespiqueens who were irritated, the Combee just continued to hum and buzz rather melodically. “Crap, someone wants one of these queens… well, Sky… you know what to do. Take them all down, but be careful. We don’t want a repeat of what happened the last time,” she said, before stepping back and allowing the Rufflet free rein. “Whatever it is you need to do, do it—I don’t know for squat what you did last time, maybe I’ll ask Blondie for some help about this,” she muttered as the Rufflet began puffing up rather indignantly; as if challenging the entire horde. At this signal, the lone Vespiquen who had almost an entire army of Combee to command quickly let out the sibilant order; and the entire bunch of eight Combee quickly came buzzing in on the lone Rufflet. Now, normally there was strength in numbers—but these were Combee, and the Rufflet had a strange glint in his eye as the entire horde of eight harmless little yellow-colored…flying honeycombs came in to attack! First up was a bunch of two Combee, and in an almighty flapping of wings, the two had unleashed a combined Gust that quickly sailed through the air, headed right at him! To counter this, he then flapped his wings, bringing up the Tailwind he’d been meaning to use since the start—and then quickly countered with two counts of Aerial Ace; the stronger gust of wind he’d conjured up effectively batting the two Gust attacks backwards on the Combee! If the Rufflet could talk, he’d be saying something along these lines, “Heh, your bad luck, my good luck!” but then again, who said that Pokémon could talk and understand the “language of humans”? To Rachel, she only heard some rather indignant squawking coming from her avian companion, and watched as a seemingly summoned gust of wind—two, in fact—were sent battering back in the opposite direction, hitting the Combee dead-on and hearing their high-pitched cries squealing throughout the clearing. She could only watch as her very agitated Rufflet then decided to bring the fight to them, unleashing some moves she’d never seen before (she’d definitely have to call Walter and ask him about this later) and just waved a hand in her avian’s direction, the moment the Rufflet remembered to look at her. “Just do whatever it is you’re doing, you’re doing fine,” she continued with a genial grin on her face; and those words then gave the Rufflet strength in order to drive back the two Combee—who had vainly tried to launch two more Gusts of wind at him! With another well-timed Aerial Ace, the two Gusts of air boomeranged backwards and repelled the two Combee, sending them out of the field—but now he was in trouble, for there were three more now headed in his direction! Seeing that the element of numbers was against them, he decided to bait them out one by one; and after catching the first one who was vainly attempting to sneak up on him with a Crush Claw to the face and batting it backwards, the other two lost control completely and suddenly sent out Gust after Gust, trying to knock the avian out of the picture! The Rufflet then let out what it could consider as a “derisive snort”, and then quickly flapped his wings again—for his initial Tailwind had petered out and he needed more Speed to get around! Once the Tailwind had picked up again, the Rufflet then maneuvered around the berserk Combee who were now Gusting over and over—by catching the second one with another well-timed Crush Claw; while the third one was caught off-guard with an Aerial Ace aimed from behind! Now that five of the nine were out of the picture, the three remaining Combee were too scared to charge forward—and they then proceeded to do the only thing that made sense to them at that moment: they turned around and fled. Of course, this got the ultimate ire of the Vespiquen that was holding back—and then the lone queen finally charged forward, getting ready to unleash a Slash on the unsuspecting Rufflet—or was he? As the incoming attack seemingly hit air, the Rufflet had skidded around neatly and had reversed their positions, before quickly aiming a Crush Claw at the Vespiquen’s back! As the humanoid “queen bee” let out a cry of indignation at its being violated, the Rufflet then continued to attack, driving it towards Rachel with Aerial Ace, after Aerial Ace—but that didn’t come without cost. This Vespiquen then waited for the Rufflet to get close—before suddenly unleashing a Power Gem attack, catching the Flying-type right in the middle of another Aerial Ace—and the Rufflet was batted back, before landing in a heap on the ground! “SKY!” she shouted, watching as the avian had been knocked back; and the Vespiquen then seized her chance—suddenly unleashing Power Gem after Power Gem at the shocked avian, who tried to dodge out of the way; but kept getting pelted with the mysterious beam of light that felt absolutely crushing. As the Rufflet then let out a cry of dismay, the Vespiquen then chuckled before charging up its “ace in the hole” and letting the ray of light sit in her hands. After deciding that it had been charged up long enough, the lone Queen then unleashed the destructive power of her attack—but ended up hitting only the grass, sending an explosion of dirt all around. Where had her target gone?! The Rufflet had pulled himself up; and in a valiant effort to hold his ground, had forced himself to skid off to one side—before closing the distance with another Aerial Ace; and unloading another series of Crush Claw attacks—although to Rachel this was all just fancy attacks she didn’t know the name of! After finally beating the Vespiquen into submission, she then let out a sigh of relief, before quickly pressing the button on the extra containment unit she had with her and lobbing it at the ‘Quen, before dashing over to the Rufflet and cradling the tired avian in her arms. Catching the lone Vespiquen

As the weird containment unit went off with a very loud “ding”, she then looked up to see that the contraption wasn’t shaking anymore. Had she done it? Had she actually caught it? She then began to slowly approach the thing that wasn’t wiggling anymore—when a sudden burst of light from the avian in her hands caught her off-guard. “What—what the hell?!” she began, very nearly dropping Sky in the process; instead choosing to set him down as the weird lights show enveloped his exhausted form. “Wh-what’s going on…?” she continued, watching and blinking as the blinding flash of light engulfed the little Rufflet and the sudden explosion of light temporarily blinded her, causing her to turn away from the event. A few moments later, the Rufflet emerged—but Rufflet he was no longer; instead of seeing the cute, absolutely chubby little purple-and-white colored avian companion who was just extremely trigger happy when it came to looking for those weird marbles, he was now…much larger. Larger was an understatement, because the moment this…thing spread out its wings and cried out, it didn’t say “Rufflet” anymore like it would’ve; instead, it squawked out, “Brav? Bra—Braviary?!” before looking around and finally seeing Rachel; the adorable little troublemaker of a human that he was taking care of in the meantime. “S-S-S-S-Sk-Sky… IS THAT YOU?!” she blurted out, backing away a few steps before blinking and taking in his new form. “Wha-wha-wha-what just happened?!” she continued, still gawking rather openly at the Rufflet-now-Braviary, trying to comprehend just what had happened… And done!
