►►picking up all of the pieces | After she’d pocketed that weird, rainbow-colored rock that glimmered in all the colors she knew that existed (plus more), Rachel and Sky continued on to trek through the desolate land. Wondering if there was something at work here, she then crouched down once more behind the reassuring shadow of her luggage pile, and began wiping down the sweat that had been building up all over her face and arms. “Man, who knew that walking in the middle of nowhere would work up this sweat…” she said, quickly calling the Rufflet over with a few chirps, before hugging the Flying-type and cuddling him as close to her body as she could. “Are you okay? Do you feel hot or anything?” she asked the avian, to which he replied with several squawking noises. Hell, what was she thinking? Do they even understand our own human language? I know that there were several unverified reports of some kinds actually talking back in our own human tongue but… well… she mused to herself as she continued to cuddle with the Rufflet for a few more minutes, before finally letting him hop from her hands and walking ahead—shame that he couldn’t fly yet.Now that the two had continued to venture out into the area, still looking for some signs of civilization, she continued to debate with herself if she would reach for the bottle of sun block that she’d packed for the trip—but knew that it would be a while, since she couldn’t exactly remember which exact satchel had her personal toiletries crammed into it. Shrugging the thought out of her head, she knew that she had to find some shelter before night came—because if it wasn’t the extreme heat that would roast her alive, then the extreme cold would freeze her to death even before she arrived at Lumiose. She then watched as her Rufflet had gone on ahead, squawking and trying to get her to keep going—because he apparently knew something she did not—but in any case, the heat really was getting to her; was she starting to see things now in the Badlands? She then shook her head and rubbed her eyes once more, trying to clear it of the muck and cobwebs that she could feel hanging around them and making it so heavy.continuation from part II |

►►picking up all of the pieces | The heat continued to beat down on Rachel, and even she was starting to sweat quite profusely. “Man, what I would do for a bath…” she groaned, trying her best to keep as cool as possible—why didn’t she pack an umbrella along with all the other things she’d decided to lug around to Kalos all the way from Unova. Well, my skin is as tanned as it is already; but I don’t want Walter mocking me because I have a bad sunburn… as if my skin can show it… but all the same… aaaargh, demoralizing Walter image, get out of my head! She thought to herself, stopping for a few seconds and shaking her head quite violently; because the “mental image” that she’d conjured up earlier returned once more—and was chuckling derisively, with full force, in her direction. “Get out of my head, Walter…” she growled between gritted teeth, before shaking her head as violently as she could manage without feeling dizzy. While all this was happening, the Rufflet had gone on ahead, the better to look for things that resembled the rainbow-colored rock that he’d found earlier. It didn’t take too long for him to actually stumble on something that was quite similar to the rainbow-hued stone he’d found; but this one was only glimmering in a determined set of colors, and Sky looked around, before quickly snatching it up in his beak and scuffling his way back towards his “caretaker”, who was apparently losing her own marbles since she was shaking her head with as much vigor as she could muster. After letting out several muffled squawks, Rachel finally realized that she was being watched—and looked down to see that the Rufflet was trying to communicate with her in a garbled manner. Wondering if there was something jammed in his beak again, she then held out her hand—and the Rufflet quickly spat out the thing he’d chanced upon not too far ahead. She then noticed that unlike the rainbow-colored thing, this one had just a few set colors…but after closer scrutiny, she then decided to dub it a “marble”; although there was a weird feeling to it, though she couldn’t place what it was. “Hmm… I might get this checked out in Lumiose…when I get there,” she added with a grumble at the last part of the sentence as she then dropped the shiny rock down her pocket, before giving Sky a good ruffle on the head and returning to the luggage pile. “Let’s keep going. I hope we find our way out of here before night fall…” she continued, watching as the Rufflet squawked affectionately in her direction, as if encouraging her onwards.tl;dr: this shiny comes with me |
